Thanks for your help!!! Cal Cooper is on the main page right now! Woot! 75.161.233.85 (talk) 02:15, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

The Main Page Redesign proposal is currently conducting a straw poll in selecting five proposals before an RFC in which it will be against the current main page. You're input would be appreciated. ChyranandChloe (talk) 04:07, 24 October 2008 (UTC)

DYK Archives

I am looking for an old DYK page, 17th May of this year to be precise. I found the archives here, the problem is that it is too hectic to go through all that. It certainly is difficult to find old ones by going through the lengthy archives, especially if you are looking for very old ones. Marsa Lahminal (talk) 15:30, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

Here you go. I'm not exactly sure what number archive that ended up being archived in, but I did find the version of of the page during May 17. I hope that helps. – RyanCross (talk) 16:38, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I got what I was looking for. But how will I find out some older pages? I need pages of June 18th 2007, March 29th 2007 and April 11th 2006. Marsa Lahminal (talk) 07:58, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
June 18, 2007, March 29, 2007, and April 15, 2007 (there is no April 11, 2006 version, so I went with the first version after April 11). In the future, all you have to do is go to the history of the page and just type whatever you need in the "Browse history" box. Quite simple. – RyanCross (talk) 08:29, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
11th April is there. I got it. Thanks. Marsa Lahminal (talk) 08:58, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Yep, I knew Ryan was the go-to guy on that question. Useight (talk) 16:04, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

DYK listing for Brave New Films

Sorry about listing my nom incorrectly as October 25 instead of 26! I was thinking about my time instead of UTC; I'll pay better attention in the future! Thanks for fixing it for me. —Politizer talk/contribs 05:03, 26 October 2008 (UTC)

No problem. I used to think the exact same thing also... until I found a useful gadget. All you have to do is go to your preferences, then go to "Gadgets", and then check mark the box that reads, "A clock in the personal toolbar that shows the current time in UTC and also provides a link to purge the current page." Pretty self explanatory, so no need for me to tell you what it does, other than it adds a clock (in UTC) to the top--right hand corner of the page. Hope that helps! – RyanCross (talk) 05:12, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
By the way, I have verified your nomination for Brave New Films at Template_talk:Did_you_know#Articles_created.2Fexpanded_on_October_26. Nice work, – RyanCross (talk) 05:15, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for looking at it so quickly! And thanks for your help cleaning up the article. —Politizer talk/contribs 05:20, 26 October 2008 (UTC)
I was wondering if you can review this featured list candidate. Thanks. ~~~~

Could you copy edit...

Hi there,

I saw your name on WP:PRV and wondered if you could copy edit London for me? I think I've solved most of the article issues that arose from the previous FAC and PR, but I think the prose needs a copy edit (I can't copy edit!).

Thanks in advance, The Helpful One Review 22:49, 29 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey there, I haven't seen your name around in months. Honestly, (most of the time) I'm not very good with copyediting articles unrelated to baseball. Though, I did make a few general copyedits to the article. I'm not sure if I can do anything else at this point, but I might take a another look at it a little more some time soon. Sorry for the inconvenience, and I hope you find a better copyeditor to work on that article. Good luck getting it to featured article status, – RyanCross (talk) 00:47, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! I've been around but been working on other parts of the wiki, good seeing you around! :) The Helpful One Review 20:07, 30 October 2008 (UTC)

Peer review Texas

As a past contributor to Texas, I'd like to invite you to help peer review the page. We have just earned a GA status, and we are on our way to getting it to FA. Thanks Oldag07 (talk) 05:38, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

The article looks pretty well written, but I'm not good with peer reviews on those kind of topics. I think asking someone else would be better. Sorry, – RyanCross (talk) 05:55, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

27 DYK

According to your userpage, you've contributed 26 DYK's to Wikipedia. Thus, I'm giving you:

The 27 DYK Medal
For 27 contributions to DYK! I know you already got one from JayHenry, but technically, this one is different. Gwib (talk) 22:30, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
Heh, thanks. :) Technically, I have 35 DYKs counting ones I've contributed to and ones I've nominated. I have 30 if you count created/expanded (though, 3 are still waiting to be moved to the next update, but they have been veriified, so that's 27). – RyanCross (talk) 22:36, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
Tweaked it then. Not pedantic at all, of course! ;) PeterSymonds (talk) 23:55, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

I nominated this list for FLC about a week ago but it has received little attention. You have been involved in these types of lists so I was wondering if you could review it. Thanks. Rlendog (talk) 03:18, 3 November 2008 (UTC)

DYK for Zebda

Hey, thanks again for all your work at DYK. I know you put in a lot of work there already, but if you have an extra moment, could you take a look at my October 29 entry for Zebda? It should be pretty simple because the ref is online and everything, but no one has seemed to notice it yet and it's close to expiring. Sorry in advance for bugging you! —Politizer talk/contribs 14:56, 4 November 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for the kind words. You're not bugging me. I'm happy to review your nomination. Anyway, I've reviewed it and have found everything okay, so it's now verified. If you ever need a hook reviewed again, just ask. I won't mind at all reviewing. By the way, good job with your DYK work lately! – RyanCross (talk) 01:20, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
No problem, it's a pleasure to work on DYK stuff. Thank you for looking into my nom so quickly!
By the way, I just tried out making a template for notifying nominators when there are questions about their noms or issues that need clarification. (I don't know if there are official standards on that, but whenever I have been marking a nomination with I have been leaving the nominators messages at their talk pages, and figured maybe it would be useful to have a template message to do that more quickly.) The template is {{DYKquestions}} (although I think I should probably think of a name that's less similar to {{DYK?}}), if you want to have a look; here is an example of what it would look like on someone's talk page:
Hello! Your submission of Zebda at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know!
Let me know if you think it would be useful to share with the rest of the DYK people! Thanks, —Politizer talk/contribs 22:53, 5 November 2008 (UTC)
Very nice. Fine idea actually. I notice some nominations are never taken care with if there is a question with it. Though, maybe posting at Wikipedia talk:Did you know will get more opinions on the template and if we should use it or not. We can discuss further improvements to that template also if we discuss it with more editors. I'll go right ahead and post. Visit Wikipedia talk:Did you know#Template:DYKquestions. – RyanCross (talk) 02:02, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

All U.S. update???

There are too many U.S. hooks. All of them, actually, even the snail, since it mentions a river in New York. This is really a no-no. Can you replace some of the hooks? --BorgQueen (talk) 07:53, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Hmm... I guess I could. Sorry, I guess I was only paying attention to the topic of the hook and not the nationality of it. There weren't much non-US hooks in the last 3 expired sections also. Anyway, I'll try to replace some. – RyanCross (talk) 07:57, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
It would be perfectly justified if you take a couple of hooks slightly ahead of cue for that purpose. --BorgQueen (talk) 07:59, 6 November 2008 (UTC)
Done. Took a good 20 minutes though. Well, I better be running off soon. I hope everything is fine with the re-organizing I just did. – RyanCross (talk) 08:23, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Additional DYKs for the Project Page

Great work with the updated WikiProject Baseball page, much more pleasant to the eyes. Just an FYI, I have 13 additional DYKs to add to the master list. I can list them here, or you can check out my talk page.Neonblak talk - 13:14, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Thank you. I think you should list them here for me. I'll add it to the DYK list right after you do so. Good work with those DYKs, and keep it up! Thanks, – RyanCross (talk) 02:32, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Er, it seems to have vanished from the suggestion page. Did it feature already? If so, I never received notice of it, nor is notice on that article's discussion page. As well, it doesn't appear to be in the recently feature archives.
After looking into the matter further, it appears that User: Politzer removed it here, but it never made it to the Featured DYK. Is it a backlog issue, wherein it will post within the next day or so? - Arcayne (cast a spell) 15:09, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
Oops, I spoke too soon. I should have known better, Never mind; these are not the droids you are looking for... - Arcayne (cast a spell) 15:22, 11 November 2008 (UTC)
Heh, good that it made it to the Main Page! Actually, it was just moved to the next update. Hooks that have been verified are moved there so that it can be set for the next update. If you don't see your nomination next time, it might be at T:DYK/N. Oh, and congratulations. — RyanCross (talk) 19:42, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Jackie Robinson Day

I know of the plans as there is a new rotunda at Citi Field named in Robinson's honor that will officially be dedicated that year according to those within the New York Mets organization. NoseNuggets (talk) 1:51 US EST Nov 8 2008.

Hello there! How are you doing? I have been extensively working on the article No Jacket Required, and it is at GA status as of right now. However, I stink at copyediting, I'm pretty sure I have heavily mucked up the article in many different areas! I was just wondering if you'd like to take a look at the article, and give it a copyedit of your own. Any sort of contributions would definitely be appreciated! I have worked very hard on the article, and am trying to get it to FA quality. A lot of work is involved. Wow! But I digress. If you have no time to copyedit, or you don't want to do it, it's OK and I'll definitely understand. Thank you and have a nice day! :) CarpetCrawler (talk) 00:17, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

Hey there. I'm doing fine, thank you. That's a pretty well written article you have worked on there. I've said this quite a few times before to others, but I'm really only good at making big copyedits to baseball-related articles (and maybe some music-related articles), so I'm not sure if I can do that much work, but I'll try my best to work on No Jacket Required. Thank you for asking though. If I made an edit that you feel shouldn't have been done, feel free to revert me, and then tell me about it. – RyanCross (talk) 00:26, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
User:Juliancolton's a good person to ask for copyediting. Sorry for butting in, I hidez now. PeterSymonds (talk) 00:29, 9 November 2008 (UTC)
I thought he went on an indefinite break... oh... I guess not anymore! JamieS93 (talk · contribs) is good with improving (and hopefully copyediting) music-related articles more than I am. I'm sure asking her also will get you more help. PeterSymonds: Nah, it's okay, I enjoy having "talk page stalkers" comment on my talk page. Comments from these "stalkers" actually help sometimes! New DYK system

Actually, it's really easy. It's just like the old system, except that when you have finished preparing the update, you just copy the entire page to the next available page in the queue, and put {{DYKbotdo}} at the top of the page so that the bot knows the page is ready to go. Then all you have to do is go back and reset the "next update" page ready for the next update.

The bot handles just about everything else now, including doing the credits. Gatoclass (talk) 09:06, 19 November 2008 (UTC)

The RfA Barnstar
RyanCross, I would like to thank you for your participation in my recent Request for Adminship, which passed with 112 supports, 4 opposes and 5 neutrals. A special mention goes out to Stwalkerster and Pedro for nominating me, thanks a lot for having trust in me! In response to the neutrals, I will try to double check articles that have been tagged for speedy deletion before I CSD them and will start off slowly with the drama boards of ANI and AN to ensure that I get used to them. In response to the oppose !votes on my RfA, I will check that any images I use meet the non-free content criteria and will attempt to handle any disputes or queries as well as I can. If you need my help at all, feel free to simply ask at my talk page and I'll see if I can help. Copyedit request

Hey, Ryan.

I was wondering if you were still willing to do copyedits. What I have in mind isn't exactly baseball-related, but I am really in need someone who will help me adjust the article as to appease the folks who may object to it on those grounds when I nominate it for FA candidacy. Please get back to me as soon as you can.

DYK

Thanks for adding those last two hooks. Of course, someone had to interrupt me while I was updating. I'll put the inuse template on the Next Update page, next time I do this. (Last time I did this was 2005-2006, so I need to get used to the new system). - Mgm|(talk) 17:40, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

Well, I only interrupted because the inuse tag was on T:TDYK for too long and it kept users from reviewing/commenting/nominating hooks.... I was going to remove the inuse tag (since it wasn't supposed to be there in the first place) but I didn't want to cause edit conflicts.. assuming you were online at the time. Someone else removed it eventually. Well, good job setting up the rest of the queue. Like you, I'm also new to this system. Well, I was helping with DYK updates from July–October, but the most recent revamp of the DYK system really confused me, so I took a few weeks break from DYK. Anyway, if you ever need help with DYK, just leave me a message. If it seems I'm offline, I might just be editing a different wikimedia project. – RyanCross (talk) 18:05, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

I'm the the co-main admin for ITN, and I was going to help update it so it could go up. ITN is like a current DYK, and the nominations page is at WP:ITN/C. It just needs a tad more expansion, and I'll put it up tonight. SpencerT♦C 03:36, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

I'm willing to post it to ITN now, if you don't have any concerns. Just leave a note on my talk page so I can have confirmation, SpencerT♦C 03:55, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

Yep, considering how much time I've spent on here it would take a lot of effort to leave permanently. :) Also, I think the Wikicup is a good incentive to come back here and edit at least somewhat frequently again.   jj137 (talk) 03:32, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

ArbCom voting

FYI, your vote for/against WJBscribe was moved to the support section. It was initially placed in the oppose section - if moving it was incorrect, feel free to move it back (but use a more obvious comment, perhaps). Avruch T 03:53, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. :-) And yes, I did want my !vote to be in the support section. Don't know how it got in the oppose section though... By the way, I thought you were User:Cirt. You two have very identical user pages. – RyanCross (talk) 04:27, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
I know, I liked his and stole it ;) Avruch T 04:39, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
I admired his userbox structure a little while back. I used to use it... but I moved on. :-) – RyanCross (talk) 04:44, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Adoption

Hello there! I'm very new to Wikipedia, but my friends and family all have accounts. They have shown me the basics of the way the free encyclopedia works. I really want to become an active user on this website. When I found you on the Adopt-a-user page my older brother showed me some of your edits. It seems as if you are peacefully diplomatic, yet assertive when it comes to conflict or debate. I would love it if you could teach me some skills in that area because I really want to be an active editor that's still like able.
Sincerely,
:AbsoluteZero459 (talk) 04:15, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Hello. Welcome to Wikipedia! :-) Sure, I would be happy to adopt you. I've been looking for another adoptee for a while actually. I usually mentor my adoptees through discussion. Will that be okay with you? If so, I'll create User:RyanCross/Adoption/AbsoluteZero459. – RyanCross (talk) 04:44, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Yes, of course. Thank you for taking the time to make a page. I'm trying to get used to this whole GMT time, but I can be on around this time. Thanks again, AbsoluteZero -459˚ 05:24, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
No problem. I've created the adoption page at User:RyanCross/Adoption/AbsoluteZero459. To learn more about my adoption program, look at User:RyanCross/Adoption. I hope to teach you quite a lot, so let's get started. – RyanCross (talk) 06:07, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
Ok, I finished! I will be on "Tomorrow"! I'm very tired. It's 145 where I am!AbsoluteZero -459˚ 06:36, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
