Question from Raviolimaker (01:33, 22 October 2023)

hello Randy i created a pasta its called braccalette pasta i went viral on the internet when i created it i would like to learn how to make a page sateing this fact --Raviolimaker (talk) 01:33, 22 October 2023 (UTC)

Sorry, but per our guideline Wikipedia:Autobiography writing about yourself or something you have made is strongly discouraged. Also, a pasta that you invented is likely to fail our Wikipedia:General notability guideline.
Why don't you try the Task Center or your Homepage for some more simple edits?

Also, what do you mean by "[jumping] in to seemingly unrelated articles"?

Garden of Eden

To be clear, it is an objective fact that, for instance, Origen of Alexandria is anathematized by the Eastern Orthodox church as per the canons of the Second Council of Constantinople https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Council_of_Constantinople#Aftermath . Also, it is an objective fact that the liturgical calendar which the Eastern Orthodox church utilizes assumes a temporal fall https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byzantine_calendar . This is not my opinion on such, otherwise I would not make an edit.

I have reverted your revert, but please let me know if you have any other disagreements. 71.179.205.73 (talk) 04:14, 23 October 2023 (UTC)

Question from Andrewrosenblum2023 (17:00, 20 October 2023)

Hi Rusty, I am a paid employee of Alexis McGill Johnson. She would like to change her bio page so that it says she is no longer CEO of the Perception Institute. She is now "president and CEO of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Planned Parenthood Action Fund. Previously, she served as the executive director and co-founder of the Perception Institute, an anti-bias research group."

I put in a suggestion on the "talk" page for her, but I"m not sure I put it in the right place? And my understanding is that as a paid employee, I can't make the edit myself, right? --Andrewrosenblum2023 (talk) 17:00, 20 October 2023 (UTC)

@Andrewrosenblum2023: Hello and welcome to Wikipedia! I see that you have already disclosed your conflict of interest. The talk page of an article is most certainly the right place to request an edit. You are correct that you cannot make the edit yourself. However, your request may not be accepted without a Reliable source. I would recommend that you make your request following the directions at Template:Edit COI, which may help it get accepted faster. If you need help, feel free to ask me.
Happy editing! Rusty4321 talk contribs 22:55, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
Thank you very much for this guidance Rusty. I filled out a request on the Talk page, using the "{{edit COI}}" protocol, as you suggested. I hope I did it all correctly. I see that my suggested edit from Friday is still up on the Talk page. I tried to figure out how to delete it, but was unable to do so. Should I get rid of it? (It is basically redundant with my "edit-COI" request). Andrewrosenblum2023 (talk) 16:28, 23 October 2023 (UTC)
@Andrewrosenblum2023 Sorry for the incredibly belated reply. To remove a section, I believe you can click the "edit" link next to the section name, then remove all text, however I'll do it for you this time.

Question from THEATRICISE (01:04, 31 October 2023)

Are you an AI? --THEATRICISE (talk) 01:04, 31 October 2023 (UTC)

@THEATRICISE I'm not an AI. I'm just a Wikipedia editor. However, we do use many Templates, which is why some messages we send might look similar. Is there anything in particular you want to ask me about editing Wikipedia? Rusty4321 talk contribs 01:07, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
"'day mate. I'm 70 and not highly conversant with computers I felt that this was a site where new concepts or ideas could be presented. However (this is my first time here in this site) upon speed reading through your guidelines just then I realize that I cannot continue if I am correct. Why is because Forty years plus of research, in regards to the weight nature of the human pattern and how we humans interact into the pattern of life as a species (a pattern of life) needs a heading as it is not a common concept at all. I created this concept many decades ago and have never shared it so it does identify me as the creator of the alternative natured life-skills-awareness training model. Is it true that I am not to proceed with sharing a part of my research online and should withdraw? THEATRICISE (talk) 01:17, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
@THEATRICISE Yes, we have many guidelines here. I regret to inform you that we have guidelines on editing about things you have a relationship with. Everything must be reliably sourced here.
Also, it is very hard for us to verify that you are the person you claim, or that this concept is really yours.
I don't believe that sending your research here would be very viable. You could try some alternative outlets.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! Rusty4321 talk contribs 04:21, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Lastofthebeetroots (22:40, 13 November 2023)

Hi :) how do you write something that doesn’t get removed? There are organisations on here that have particular aims that could be regarded as propaganda but if you point that out it gets removed --Lastofthebeetroots (talk) 22:41, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

@Lastofthebeetroots: One of Wikipedia's Five Pillars is neutrality and verifiability. We can't just write something on to a page and expect readers to know if it's true or not.
Also, you saying "could be regarded as propaganda" could be interpreted as original research and may not be verifiable.
On the other hand, the statement will probably not be removed if you find a reliable source supporting your claim. Rusty4321 talk contribs 23:57, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Fossholl (22:53, 14 November 2023)

Hey Rusty! I'm trying to make a Wikipedia page for a business I work for - obviously there are quite a few pitfalls that I can run into along the way... what would be the best course of action for our business to have a page that is likely to be approved? If the information provided is about the business themselves, what references could I be using to make it appropriate for Wikipedia? --Fossholl (talk) 22:53, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

@Fossholl: Our general notability guideline and guidelines for organizations and companies are in-depth are what constitutes a "notable" business. As reviewers said on your draft article, we require in-depth and independent sources. One of the main referencing pitfalls is adding sources that merely mention the topic. If you need help finding sources, see Help:Find sources.
Should you have more questions, feel free to ask me. Rusty4321 talk contribs 01:29, 15 November 2023 (UTC)

You can also enroll at Wikipedia's Counter-Vandalism Academy.

Question from Namij-CFG (09:47, 7 November 2023)

Hi Rusty, this is Namij. I just make my first edit of "Angkouch." My Cambodian collaborators and others spell this word differently in English, but English transliteration is disputed. How can I create a "redirect" page from a new shell "Angkuoch" page (my spelling) to this page "Angkouch" (current spelling and entry), so that people who search for "Angkuoch" will find this page? Thanks! --Namij-CFG (talk) 09:47, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

I'm sorry to cut in on anther person's talk page. My apologies. I was following Namij's contributions with interest, as very few have taken interest in that page. Looking at the source I used to make the page, I found I had misspelled it, possibly following something else I found online. I will correct the name right now. Best wishes, Jacqke (talk) 15:36, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
@Jacqke: No worries! A quick Google search shows that the spelling "Angkouch" is sometimes used.
@Namij-CFG: To create a redirect to a page, write the following in the source editor (wikitext), replacing "target page" with the name of the page: #REDIRECT [[target page]]
If you prefer the Visual Editor, click on the icon with three horizontal lines, select "page settings", check "redirect this page to," and enter the name of the page you want to redirect to.
You may also want to categorize the redirect.
If you have any further questions on redirects, please see Wikipedia:Redirect. Rusty4321 talk contribs 23:59, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

Hello! When responding to reports that were posted due to being disallowed for "notable people disruption", please use the notable people EFFP template {{effp|redlink}} instead of the standard not done template {{effp|notdone}} so that the former template will have some additional instructions when dealing with said reports about attempting to add notable persons, but cannot due to the filter. ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:53, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Question from Ginnisaraswati (18:55, 28 November 2023)

Hi Rusty, I have a question. I contracted an agency to create two wiki pages for me. One for me personally and one for my business. They're currently in draft mode and will be live soon. I'd like to request admin access for these so I can update these pages myself. Is this possible? --Ginnisaraswati (talk) 18:55, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

@Ginnisaraswati: I'm sorry, contracting an agency? Our Terms of Use and community policy discourage paid editing or creating Wikipedia pages for someone. (See Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure) And per our policies on reliable sources and verifiability these articles have no guarantee to be accepted. This agency has a possibility to be scamming you. I advise you to take caution.
Regarding 'admin access': You should be able to edit your Draft article without any user rights, given you know the title of it. Draft article titles are prefixed with Draft:, so you might be able to find them that way.
I hope this helps! Feel free to ask if there are any more questions. Rusty4321 talk contribs 23:43, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
Ugh! I have a sinking feeling that you may be right in your hunch of my being scammed.
These are the drafts that were made below. I'm sorry for the novice question but is there a link/tutorial you could point me in the direction of as to how I could edit these?
https://www.wikipediadrafts.com/profiles/MTI3
https://www.wikipediadrafts.com/profiles/MTQx Ginnisaraswati (talk) 23:57, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
@Ginnisaraswati: This website has a high probability of being a scam, according to a quick Google search. This website does not seem affiliated with the Wikimedia Foundation (the organization hosting Wikipedia), so I would have no idea as to how to edit it. These draft pages do not exist on Wikipedia and the website seems to be masquerading as Wikipedia, mimicking the interface.
Quoting our policies, no editor can guarantee any outcome in Wikipedia – not that an article will be kept or deleted, nor that any content will remain or be deleted, nor that any tags will remain or be removed.
Your best bet would be to start a draft through Wikipedia's official process at the Wikipedia page Wikipedia:Articles for creation, and ignore any further things the 'scam' website asks you.
If you are forced or threatened by the 'scam' writers, please email info-en@wikimedia.org.
I hope this helps! Rusty4321 talk contribs 04:08, 29 November 2023 (UTC)

Rollback

Hi Rusty4321. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:

  • Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle. It just adds a [Rollback] button next to a page's latest live revision - that's all. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only. Never use rollback to revert good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose or any other inappropriate purpose, the rights will be revoked.
  • Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask!

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Fastily 09:38, 4 December 2023 (UTC)

Question from Rsahai (02:11, 7 December 2023)

Hi Rusty, I want to create a Wikepedia page about my scientific research, history and acheivements. How do I do this? --Rsahai (talk) 02:11, 7 December 2023 (UTC)

@Rsahai: This may not be possible due to our policies on autobiographies. In particular, [w]riting an autobiography on Wikipedia is an example of conflict-of-interest editing and is strongly discouraged.
However, other people may write an article on you if you are notable enough, with enough reliable coverage from verifiable sources.
In particular see Wikipedia:Notability (people).

Can you help make my wiki page better? --Undeadjoker666 (talk) 06:17, 29 December 2023 (UTC)

@Undeadjoker666: At its core, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. Your user page seems to have been deleted for being a blog, web hosting service, social networking service, or memorial site.
Your user page (which is not the same as a social media profile) is meant to give some basic information about yourself and notes related to your work on Wikipedia. That is different from an article on Wikipedia. If you want an article that viewers of our encyclopedia can see, you have to be a notable person first.
Thank you, and feel free to ask if you have any other questions. Rusty4321 talk contribs 15:38, 29 December 2023 (UTC)

Hello you have been assigned to me as my mentor. Can you give me any pointers on starting out editing, and finding pages that I have editing permissions on? --Beauzo2979 (talk) 20:56, 23 January 2024 (UTC)

Question from Scelhoutre on Pheran (10:49, 25 January 2024)

Hello, how do I change an image while editing on phone? --Scelhoutre (talk) 10:49, 25 January 2024 (UTC)

@Scelhoutre: It should be the same as on any other device. Search for an image in Wikimedia Commons, copy the filename, and add it to the article, using the syntax as detailed at Help:Files § Using files. Rusty4321 talk contribs 17:35, 26 January 2024 (UTC)

Question from Contribution guy on Wikipedia:Aricles for deletion/ Emmetsburg, Iowa (04:01, 26 January 2024)

help me create this page NOW! --Contribution guy (talk) 04:01, 26 January 2024 (UTC)

You seem to have spelled the page wrong. Your deletion request at the page Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Emmetsburg, Iowa has been closed as a "speedy keep" because we don't delete pages "just because" and a valid rationale needs to be provided.
If you are here to do things "just because", Wikipedia is not the right place. I must warn you that repeating this kind of activity may be seen as disruptive and cause you to be blocked from editing to prevent further disruption. There are a number of alternative outlets that might provide what you are looking for.
Thank you. Rusty4321 talk contribs 17:40, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
