You asked on my page about how to get a clickable map of counties in West Virginia the way there's one for Kentucky. So, here's how it works.
A map is clickable in Wikipedia or other sites using the Wikimedia software (the underlying software Wikipedia uses is called Wikimedia) by using the Wikimedia clickable link instructions. It uses a syntax similar to the standard client-side clickable link format for regular websites. You would take an image of WV counties of the size used in the article, then create a clickmap using a map editor program, following the edges to create a series of poly regions equating to each county. After you do this, if the map program doesn't support Wikimedia mapping commands, you change the commands (but the coordinates the mapping program used will be the same), then you include a link to the map you're using.
There is supposed to be one that does this for the Wikimedia format but I haven't had much luck with it. To learn more, edit or view source on a page that has a clickable map, like go to List of Texas area codes, then click on Edit This Page (You actually want to see the page source, you're not really going editing it.) The beginning of the clickable map area has an html tag of <imagemap> and ends with </imagemap>, starts with the specification of the image to use, then each region to be defined and the coordinates and the link in Wikipedia to use. The region coordinate data is the same as that used for a standard client-side map, but the commands and the way a link is indicated is done differently than the usual method.

Area Code 516

In a large number of images you uploaded in December 2012, your diagram indicates NPA/area code 516 exists on both Long Island and in the southernmost portion of Westchester county. This is incorrect. Area code 516 only consists of Nassau County, and never included Westchester. The original 914 area code included both southeastern NY State and Long Island, but that commonality ceased when 516 was created in 1951. What a TLB is - and isn't

In the S/360 Model 67 and in the S/370 and successor models with dynamic address translation, in the GE 645, and on many current microprocessors, the page table is stored in memory, with a TLB used as a cache, separate from the caches that sit between main memory and the processor (the 360/65 and GE 645 had no cache between main memory and the processor; the first S/360 and, as far as I know, the first CPU ever to have a cache of that sort was the S/360 Model 85, which called it a "buffer").

In the Spectra/70-46, PDP-11, Sun-1, Sun-2, Sun-3 (except for the "Sun-3x" models) and the earliest Sun-4 models, there's no page table in main memory, and no TLB; instead, there is a separate chunk of memory (I'm guessing that's how the Spectra/70-46 implemented it) or a collection of registers (that's how it was on the PDP-11 and the Sun MMU) that store one or more levels of translation entries.

In the first class of machines, a virtual address is first looked up in the TLB, and, if that lookup fails, either the hardware or microcode "walks the page table" to fetch the page table entry (and enters it into the TLB, typically), or a trap occurs to operating system software or special firmware (PALcode on the DEC Alpha, for example; newer S/390 and z/Architecture machines might do the same with "millicode") that "walks the page table".

If the entry doesn't have the "page present" bit set (or, with a multi-level page table, if one of the higher-level entries doesn't have it set), a page fault occurs, and the operating system either finds the page in the in-memory page cache (minor page fault) or finds a free in-memory page frame (possibly evicting another page) and reads the page from the backing store into that location.

In the second class of machines, the virtual address is used as an index into the special memory or register array to find the entry for the page in question. If it doesn't have the "page present" bit set (or, if it's multi-level, as I think it was on at least some of the Sun MMUs, if one of the higher-level entries doesn't have it set), a page fault occurs, which is largely handled in the same fashion as in the first class of machines, but (at least on the Suns) could also be handled similarly to a TLB miss on the first class of machines (if the OS maintains a data structure similar to a page table; I forget the details of how the Sun VM system worked).

You may have been thinking of the second class of machines, but 1) they don't have a TLB, as the memory/registers are considered "fast enough" and 2) both classes of machines have page faults, which are primarily handled in the same fashion in both cases. I have online access to a Spectra/70-46 manual. On page 4, it speaks of:
  • "main memory", with a cycle time of 1.44 microseconds;
  • "non-addressible main memory", used for subchannel registers (and, I suspect, implemented as part of main memory, or using the same 1.44 microsecond memory as main memory);
  • "scratchpad memory", used for processor registers (general-purpose and internal), with a cycle time of 300 nanoseconds;
  • "translation memory", used to store the translation table entries, with a cycle time of 300 nanoseconds;
  • "read-only memory", for processor microcode, with an effective cycle time of 480 nanoseconds;
so the translation table entries (which are not TLB entries; they don't mention a TLB, which would be a cache for a page table in main memory - if there's no other set of translation entries, there's nothing to "look-aside" to before looking at the main entries) are not in main memory. Hello,

Q1: Why does your upper arrow work fine but not your Highlighted black king on light square in Template:Chess diagram?

Q2: Why are your highlighted chess pieces with a red frame not at all used in WP since several months after their creations on March 23, 2013?

Q3: What is the syntax for the highlighted black king on light square in the Chess diagram template? I tried: "kD" as king Dark with "D" in upper case instead of "kd" king dark in lower case.

You can see the issue in square e8. Chess_kDt45.svg is missing.
"t" sounds like "transparent" or "transplant".

Q4: Could you add the transparent version of highlighted chess pieces with a red frame or is there something to fix in the Chess diagram template?

According to the usage of your SVG file, it is written: "The naming is as follows: chess_xyz45.svg [...]

There are also highlighted tiles, use capital L or D for the z (3rd) parameter to make the square highlighted in red.

Q5: Why is there the capital letter in y (2nd position) "Chess kDl45.svg" but not in z (3rd position) "Chess kdL45.svg"?

Note that Chess kdD.svg has been deleted on March 24, 2013.

I found how to use the highlighted black king with a red frame in an old version of the chess diagram template used in the French-speaking fr:WP (see 2.1 The Immortal Game diagram) but not in en:WP because the new LUA script (used in the en:WP chess diagram template) needs the transplant version of the highlighted black king Chess_kDt45.svg, which does not exist.
There are only:
  • the transplant version without the red frame or
  • the non transplant version on light and dark squares: , .
So the question becomes: could you create the transplant version for each highlighted piece with a red frame?
Or should I ask for a fixed version of the LUA script in the en:WP chess diagram template?

New York area code map

Is it possible to make an image of all the area codes of NY in blue and not have a specific one highlighted in red for List of New York area codes? Hi, there's been a discussion at Talk:2013#Punctuation about the " the space between "millenium" and the comma" in the template. While I don't see it as a problem there are a couple of editors whom seem to think it may bring about the end of civilization as we know it! Do you have any objection to removing the space?
