Orphaned non-free media (File:China Democracy Party.svg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:China Democracy Party.svg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:16, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

[edit]In a recent edit to the page Marxism-Leninism, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.
For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author used.
In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. RolandR (talk) 16:06, 14 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. I’m Sorry…???
[edit]What the heck, man?! There’s nothing “more official” about just any random screenshot vs. a polished piece of promotional art. I know this because most articles I’ve read concerning fictional characters, especially those from cartoons and video games (see, for example, Mickey Mouse or Mario) don’t feature random screenshots but official PNG renders with non-distractive transparent backgrounds showing their full bodies. Heck, I remember when even Garnet and Pearl had official renders like the ones I described. (For some reason, it's impossible to find previous versions of the articles in question with said pictures. If I better understood computer programming, I would understand why this is so.)
So, how come the previous transparent, full-body images made the cut and mine didn’t? Mine are posed the exact same way the first ones were, just with alternate attire. I'm tired of making constructive edits in compliance with Wikipedia policy and getting rejected again and again and again. And how can Pearl's image be "way too big" if it's nearly the same size as Garnet's and the exact same size of the first transparent one? Thank goodness Wikipedia adjusts image sizes to fit in templates.
Furthermore, the image of Steven brandishing his shield did not originate on Tumblr. I've seen it in countless promotionals for the show.
I don't want to start an edit war. I'm a very simple man when it comes to something as legally complicated and nuanced as Wikipedia edits, and I just want to better understand why this process to check whether an image is official is far more complicated than I believe necessary.
- Yes, Pearl and Amethyst did have transparent PNG renders, but User:DanielleTH replaced them with screenshots with the edit reason "I understand that renders are nice, but these are fanart, as evidenced by the source below, and thus cannot be used on a page for the character. Official renders directly from Cartoon Network, like on Steven's page, may be used. Thus, I've replaced it with official media, a screenshot from the episode."
- The renders of Garnet, Pearl, and Amethyst are were edited by users of the Steven Universe Wiki from other sources (Amethyst's comes from the Guide to the Crystal Gems' artwork of her second outfit; not sure about the other two) to show their current outfits, which is OK for a fan wiki, but not Wikipedia. And the Steven render you uploaded is based on this sketch by show artist Danny Hynes, flipped and with the shield added by this SU Wiki contributor (the pose was also used on an official t-shirt, but again, flipped and no shield). Steven's page in Guide to the Crystal Gems uses a different pose.
- I believe renders from their model sheets would be OK, like this one for Garnet, this one for Pearl, or this one for Amethyst. If you want it to be official, replace your Steven render with a flipped and downscaled version of this (I'd also recommend autocropping).
- Fair use images should generally be under 100,000 pixels total, and the ones you uploaded far exceeded that; in the future, scale them down before uploading them. Perhaps this should be brought to discussion. Raymond1922 (talk) 22:22, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
I see. Many thanks for the explanation and these links, Raymond! I really appreciate your taking the time to look into this issue, and I'll get to cropping them as soon as I can.
