Manual of Style

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, you may not know that Wikipedia has a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Using different styles throughout the encyclopedia makes it harder to read. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Quotation marks

[edit]

Please do not add quotation marks to blockquotes, as you did in the Humphrey Bogart article. Thank you. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 14:34, 25 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not italicize them, either, as you did in the O. Henry article. See MOS:TEXT#Quotations. Deor (talk) 20:22, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Quotation marks

[edit]

Please do not add quotation marks to blockquotes, as you did in the Aafia Siddiqui article. Thank you. It is against the manual of style.--Epeefleche (talk) 02:11, 30 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Peter Alexander (journalist), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page ABC-TV (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Mahalia Jackson and use of surnames

[edit]

Hello, I've reverted your edits at Mahalia Jackson for the following reasons:

  1. the text says "Biographer Laurraine Goreau cites that it was also around this time she added 'i' to her name, changing it from Mahala to Mahalia ..."
  2. Wikipedia refers to people by surname in its biographical articles, where possible.

I also undid the addition of "Ms." that you made toGloria Foster for the same reason, and fixe the formatting of your ellipses there. Graham87 04:44, 3 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Henry Winkler may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry, just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
  • | child = [[Zoe Emily]] and [[Max Winkler (director)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Welcome to Wikipedia from the Anatomy Wikiproject!

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia from Wikiproject Anatomy! We're a group of editors who strive to improve the quality of anatomy articles here on Wikipedia. One of our members has noticed that you are involved in editing anatomy articles; it's great to have a new interested editor on board. In your wiki-voyages, a few things that may be relevant to editing wikipedia articles are:

  • Thanks for coming aboard! We always appreciate a new editor. Feel free to leave us a message at any time on the WikiProkect Anatomy talk page. If you are interested in joining the project yourself, there is a participant list where you can sign up. Please leave a message on the talk page if you have any problems, suggestions, would like review of an article, need suggestions for articles to edit, or would like some collaboration when editing!
  • You will make a big difference to the quality of information by adding reliable sources. Sourcing anatomy articles is essential and makes a big difference to the quality of articles. And, while you're at it, why not use a book to source information, which can source multiple articles at once!
  • We try and use a standard way of arranging the content in each article. That layout is here. These headings let us have a standard way of presenting the information in anatomical articles, indicate what information may have been forgotten, and save angst when trying to decide how to organise an article. That said, this might not suit every article. If in doubt, be bold!
  • Lastly, why not try and strive to create a good article! Anatomical articles are often small in scope, have available sources, and only a limited amount of research available that is readily presentable!

Feel free to contact us on the WikiProkect Anatomy talk page if you have any problems, or wish to join us. I wish you all the best on your wiki-voyages! --LT910001 (talk) 06:24, 30 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Please do not make edits that result in violations of the Manual of Style. As was explained in this edit summary, your edits violated MOS:BOLD and WP:REDNOT, as well as adding unnecessary italics to the entries. WP:TVCAST, which has community support, explains how to properly format TV cast sections in articles. --AussieLegend () 13:45, 25 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help me!

[edit]

Please help me with...the article on Peter Whitney, the actor. The notice says that the article is about a living person. Mr. Whitney is NOT a living person; he DIED in 1972. Your notice cited the year 2018; Mr. Whitney has been dead for 49 years. Please remove this notice from the article about Mr. Whitney, before you embarrass yourself.

If you need to get in touch with me, I can be reached at (Redacted)

Qdiderot (talk) 22:46, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I have adjusted the template. Biographies of living people are typically held to a higher standard, so there is a set of specific notice templates for common issues in biographies of living people. Since Whitney is neither living nor recently dead, those templates don't apply even though the problem still exists, so I have switched the template to a more generic reference improvement template. --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 23:37, 1 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
