Tell Tommy thanks for the photo. With a little work I think we can have it up to GA like Flat Bastion.Tibetan Prayer ᧾ 11:30, 18 July 2013 (UTC)
- Will do. Please note that I've listed you as a co-author in the corresponding DYK nomination, so don't be too surprised when it pops up on your talk page. The article would be a bit short for a GA but I'm game - I don't think there's a set length, is there? By the way the new ID looks good on you... Prioryman (talk) 15:20, 18 July 2013 (UTC)

Why more notifications?
[edit]The general RfC has already been advertised; you don't need to send out what is essentially the same message, to the same people, just to advertise your own section, IMHO. In any case, you're not on Edwardsbot's access list at this time. Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 08:09, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
- A large number of people have already commented. They won't necessarily be watching the RfC, so a fresh notification seems the fairest way of ensuring that it comes to their attention. Prioryman (talk) 08:09, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

DYK Nomination of Footpaths of Gibraltar
[edit]Nice work on the article, and effectively saving the Devil's Gap Footpath content from deletion. I note that the nomination for DYK includes "Created by Prioryman (talk), Gibmetal77 (talk)" but the article history show's only contributions from you (and a minor fix from me) - should the contribution of Gibmetal77 (who I think created the original Devil's Gap Footpath article) be acknowledged somewhow in the 'new' article or its history? TheOverflow (talk) 02:52, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
- I know, it's an issue that bothered me too. I can't really see any way around it other than possibly undeleting the old article and recreating the redirect, which would at least restore the history of Gibmetal77's contributions. On a related issue, I'm afraid Fram has chosen to disrupt this nomination too on completely specious and blatantly WP:POINTy grounds - see Template:Did you know nominations/Footpaths of Gibraltar and Wikipedia talk:Did you know#Abuse of DYK review process by Fram. Prioryman (talk) 09:26, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
Nomination of Footpaths of Gibraltar for deletion
[edit]A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Footpaths of Gibraltar is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Footpaths of Gibraltar until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Darkness Shines (talk) 12:10, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Hi Prioryman, I know better than to template you, but next time (to avoid copyright violations, as unattributed copying is a violation of our license) please include (at the very least) a link as indicated at the above page. Otherwise you may end up with a block, which is not something I want to see happen. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 13:53, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
- To be honest I'm surprised that we're even having this conversation, but for the record I'll point out the obvious: copyright violations require copyrighted material to be used without the permission of the original author, as WP:COPY makes clear. This has never been an issue in this instance as Gibmetal77 was fully aware that I was reusing his three paragraphs and was fine with it. What we are talking about here is a technical issue of how Gibmetal77's contributions can be recognised in the article history. You saw above that I had a suggestion of how to do it, but you came up with a better option, for which I'm grateful. But let's be clear: this was never an issue of copyrighted material being infringed, but of its usage not being properly documented until you performed a history merge. Prioryman (talk) 18:14, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
- The main issue is that of the license the content was released under (as CC is non-revocable): when he published it, it was CC-BY-SA, meaning that attribution remained necessary. Anyways, just (for the next time) giving a quick link in your edit summary when you are copying from one article to another would be nice. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 01:22, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Hi, firstly if you wish to raise concerns about whether the RfC is valid you should probably do so on the talk page.
Secondly, when I was checking to see if you were still online I saw this. May I ask what you are planning to do with it? I have my list available which you can use - User:Gilderien/GA-DYKRfC/Recipients but I noticed that you have included a lot of users which have not previously commented so to notify them would probably be seen by some as canvassing. If you want to notify those on my list, as I see you tried to, I have EdwardsBot access so if you run up a message I would be happy to deliver it for you.--Gilderien Chat|Contributions 22:38, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
- Actually I'm planning to deliver a slightly different notification. DYK project members have not been notified, which I find a bit baffling, so I plan to send them a notification when the bot's latest run has finished. Prioryman (talk) 23:11, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
- Ok, that seems fine as it would affect the project. Would you mind adding the GA project members to the list as well? EdwardsBot will automatically eliminate duplicates in the list so noone gets double-notified.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 23:20, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
- I could but I'm about to go to bed, and I won't get an opportunity to do so for another 18 hours or so. If you'd like to add the GA project members and run the bot that would be very helpful. I was going to use the following message:
- As a listed DYK participant, you are invited to contribute to a formal Request for Comment on the question of whether Good Articles should appear in the Did You Know? slot in future. Please see the proposal on its subpage here, or on the main DYK talk page. To add the discussion to your watchlist, click this link. Thank you in advance.
- Obviously it would need to be amended to refer to GA project members but I'll leave that to your discretion. Prioryman (talk) 23:23, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
- Ok, would you like your signature on it or mine? I shall do that and use the same key (584) so people who commented last time who I notified won't get it again.--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 23:28, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Morganna Wild One.gif
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:Morganna Wild One.gif requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a non-free file with a clearly invalid licensing tag; or it otherwise fails some part of the non-free content criteria. If you can find a valid tag that expresses why the file can be used under the fair use guidelines, please replace the current tag with that tag. If no such tag exists, please add the {{Non-free fair use}} tag, along with a brief explanation of why this constitutes fair use of the file. If the file has been deleted, you can re-upload it, but please ensure you place the correct tag on it.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Orphaned non-free media (File:Morganna Wild One.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Morganna Wild One.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Gibraltar
[edit]Prioryman, would you consider a self-imposed moratorium on submitting further Gibraltar articles to DYK? Gibraltar has been featured enough times on the home page of Wikipedia. Could you give other editors, and other topics a chance to have their work featured? Jehochman Talk 11:55, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
- You're way too early for April 1st. Could you please wait a few months before posting a request like that? Prioryman (talk) 17:57, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
- We're at the antipodes of April 1. Jehochman Talk 18:46, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
- By all means keep writing whatever articles you like. However, could you consider helping to ensure a diversity of content on the home page? We have a problem with too many Gibraltar DYKs and too many fungus featured articles. I think the only solution is to raise awareness of these problems and ask editors to help balance the home page content. Do you write about things besides Gibraltar? Could you consider nominating more of those other things, and less (or no) Gibraltar? Jehochman Talk 13:16, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
- Just under 13,000 hits and another high quality article! Of the 1,000 new Gibraltar related articles written in the last year I think yours and Anne's have received the most attention. I'm impressed to see that we have several hundred new photographs in the last few weeks. Well done Prioryman. Victuallers (talk) 14:27, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
- It's too bad the other areas of the encyclopedia don't get so much coverage. Do we really want to let Wikipedia non-profit mission be overtaken over by outside interests, such as promoting Gibraltar's tourism, or the British position that Gibraltar should remain independent from Spain? Jehochman Talk 14:33, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
- No, but since those things aren't happening, the question doesn't arise. By the way, the article was the third most popular DYK for the whole month of September, so you can hardly argue there's no public interest in the topic area. Prioryman (talk) 17:59, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
Help test better mass message delivery
[edit]Hi. You're being contacted as you've previously used global message delivery (or its English Wikipedia counterpart). It doesn't feel so great to be spammed, does it? ;-)
For the past few months, Legoktm has built a replacement to the current message delivery system called MassMessage. MassMessage uses a proper user interface form (no more editing a /Spam subpage), works faster (it can complete a large delivery in minutes), and no longer requires being on an access list (any local administrator can use it). In addition, many tiny annoyances with the old system have been addressed. It's a real improvement! :-)
You can test out MassMessage here: testwiki:Special:MassMessage. The biggest difference you'll likely notice is that any input list must use a new {{#target:}}
parser function. For example, {{#target:User talk:Jimbo Wales}}
or {{#target:User talk:Jimbo Wales|test2.wikipedia.org}}
. For detailed instructions, check out mw:Help:Extension:MassMessage.
If you find any bugs, have suggestions for additional features, or have any other feedback, drop a note at m:Talk:MassMessage. Thanks for spamming! --MZMcBride (talk) 05:22, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

[edit]On 22 October 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Parthian war of Caracalla, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that according to one Roman historian, the Parthian war of Caracalla started after the Roman emperor Caracalla (pictured) massacred his would-be bride and wedding guests? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Parthian war of Caracalla. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

The Geography Barnstar
[edit]The Geography Barnstar | ||
Your work on Volubilis and other geography-related articles is much appreciated. This Geograhpy Barnstar is the least I can give you. Here, take it :) --Sp33dyphil ©hatontributions 07:12, 4 November 2013 (UTC) |
On a similar theme... Just a quick note to congratulate you on the promotion of Volubilis to FA status recently. I know you know all about WP:TFAR and the "pending" list, so this is just a reminder to use them as and when suits you. Many thanks. BencherliteTalk 11:15, 4 November 2013 (UTC)
Main Page appearance: Volubilis
[edit]This is a note to let the main editors of Volubilis know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on November 18, 2013. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask Bencherlite (talk · contribs). You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/November 18, 2013. If it needs tweaking, or if it needs rewording to match improvements to the article between now and its main page appearance, please edit it, following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. The blurb as it stands now is below:
Volubilis is a partly excavated Roman city in Morocco near Meknes. Built in a fertile agricultural area, it developed from the 3rd century BC onwards as a Phoenician/Carthaginian settlement and grew rapidly under Roman rule from the 1st century AD onwards. Public buildings included a basilica, temple and triumphal arch (pictured). Its prosperity, derived principally from olive growing, prompted the construction of many fine town-houses with large mosaic floors. The town fell to local tribesmen around 285 and was never retaken by Rome due to its remoteness. In the late 8th century it became the seat of Idris ibn Abdallah, the founder of the state of Morocco. Volubilis was abandoned by the 11th century. Its ruins remained substantially intact until an earthquake in the mid-18th century and subsequent use of the stones for building Meknes. During and after the period of French rule over Morocco, about half of the site was excavated and some of the more prominent buildings were restored or reconstructed. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, listed for being "an exceptionally well preserved example of a large Roman colonial town on the fringes of the Empire". (Full article...)

DYK for Walter Burton Harris
[edit]On 6 November 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Walter Burton Harris, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Walter Burton Harris, correspondent for The Times in Morocco, travelled to off-limits parts of the country by disguising himself as "the complete fanatical-looking type"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Walter Burton Harris. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Volubilis
[edit]Congratulations! Really pleased to see it on the front page. (Knew it'd make it there eventually). Well done. Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:51, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
Wonderful to see this!! A pity about the "Gibraltar 120 miles this way" signpost I can see on the stone work though ;-]♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:03, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
We were hoping that Morocco could take the overflow of tourists caused by your last local TFA ... and now this! The whole region's airspace will be backed up as far as Iceland. Is there nowhere that is free from editors intent on Wikimedia's mission? ..... Well done! Victuallers (talk) 17:08, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks guys! Nice to see it got a decent number of views too. There is actually a Gibraltar connection, I went there (not directly) a few days after visiting Volubilis, so there you go... Prioryman (talk) 20:09, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
Your GA nomination of The Negro Motorist Green Book
[edit]The article The Negro Motorist Green Book you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:The Negro Motorist Green Book for comments about the article. Well done! Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Zanimum -- Zanimum (talk) 01:22, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- I got a few things to do but I can't wait to sit down and read the article. Drmies (talk) 03:32, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- Hope you enjoy it! I'm looking to put it through FA next - I'd quite like to see it on the Main Page next Martin Luther King Day (Jan 21). Prioryman (talk) 20:08, 20 November 2013 (UTC)
- I did. Hope you didn't mind my two tweaks. I wrote something a few years ago in the same field, First Baptist Church (Montgomery, Alabama). Look carefully and you'll see my daughter sitting on the steps. How time flies. Drmies (talk) 05:23, 21 November 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks for doing that, the tweaks are fine. Prioryman (talk) 17:18, 21 November 2013 (UTC)

Happy New Year
[edit]This greeting goes out to all those I have worked with this year - it has been a pleasure. Whilst obviously a nice, conventional mountain article for me, I think our DYK was certainly the most *ahem* interesting hook I've had on the main page. To another good year!
