Karumpattoor

Karumpattoor is a village in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, India. It is administrated under the panchayat of Karumpattoor and is located 6 km from Kanyakumari (An International tourist place of India) and 14 km away from Nagarcoil, the district headquarters of Kanyakumari and the nearest city Trivandrum (capital of Kerala). The village is surrounded by paddy fields and coconut groves. Further, this village has a pleasant climate throughout the year and benefited from both northeast and south-west monsoons. In addition to that, the village has seen success in the sphere of politics, with village members serving as a member of legislative assembly level. Village member Shree Vaikunda Das served as an MLA for the Government of Tamilnadu.

History: Karumpattoor is divided into two parts, North Karumpattoor and South Karumpattoor. Around 250 residences are living in North Karumpattoor and most of them are the devotees of Lord Ayya Vikander (Ayyavazhi). The South Karumpattoor residence are the devotees of Lord Jesus Christ. Karumpattoor is very closely located in the holy place, which is Swamythoppu pathi. One of the main features of this village is that Sanctum Sanctorum (Palliyarai) of Karumpattoor Sriman Narayanaswamy temple has suited linearly to the Sanctum Sanctorum (Palliyarai) of Swamithopu pathi. Another feature is the temple has constructed the place where the lord Vikander was taken to rest awhile on his return journey from Mutta Pathi.

Location and pieces of information of Temples:

1. Ayya Sriman Narayanaswamy temple belongs to the whole village. It is suited in the south part of the village.

2. Siva Sudalai Maadan Temple, it’s a family temple suited directly in the center of the village.

3. Amman Temple, it’s a family temple located in the north part of the village.


Education: Karumpattoor people are highly educated. The Literacy rate is 100 %. The village produces Doctors, Teachers, Lecturers, college professors, Engineers, Scientists and government employees, including the defense and police departments, some people are working as engineers and software developers in all over the world.

Agriculture: Major crops under cultivations: Rice, Coconut, Banana, Mango, Tamarind and Vegetables and flowers

Library: The old library called ‘Bharathi Padipagam” has been inaugurated by the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Shree K. Kamaraj. The new library functions in the name of Ex MLA, Shree. Ve. Das along with the historical books.

Major festivals:

Chithirai Thiruvizha (17 days) – Ayya Sriman Narayanaswamy temple (Every year month of May)

Margazhi Thiruvizha (3 days)- Ayya Sriman Narayanaswamy temple (Every year month of December)

Pongal Celebration (3 days)- Sports and Cultural activities
