Conflict of interest?

[edit]

You seem to be having some difficulty understanding what has happened to your images. You need to look at your talk page on Commons, where you will find notifications about that. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. You cannot come to Wikipedia and treat it as an advertising arm of some organisation you happen to be working for (if that is what you are doing). If you have a conflict of interest, then I suggest you declare it on your talk page. It is not not a problem if you are upfront about it. If you are serious about wanting to expand and write articles about pond liners and air pumps, then I will help you get the articles up to a decent level. But if your motivation is just to push the commercial interests of some organisation you are involved with, and you cannot or are unwilling to detach from that particular concern, then sorry, you have come to the wrong place. --Epipelagic (talk) 09:59, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ah... I see you do know what is going on with your images. You need to be clear it is not acceptable for a group of editors from your organisation to edit from one account. The account should be used by one editor only. To repeat what I said above, there is no problem if you want articles on Wikipedia to clarify what pond liners and air pumps are, but you you need to drop the idea you can treat this as an advertising exercise for your company. --Epipelagic (talk) 10:28, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Following reply transferred from here to keep this discussion together
I understand why the picture was removed, there was a query over copyright. I was explaining that as I am part of the company who sells these flexible liners I have the right to use the image as I wish. We do not want to use Wikipedia for advertising, we want to put as much information on as possible regarding garden ponds and fish keeping as there are a lot of things not currently covered on Wikipedia. I find that more and more people are using the internet now to find out information about potential new hobbies, our aim is to make this information as accessible as possible and we thought Wikipedia is the best way to do that. I am a beginner on Wikipedia and I find replying to comments or issues a bit clunky, so I apologise if this is not the way to do it. I know there are a lot of help pages available, I am trawling my way through them all and hopefully along the way you will see the pages improving. -- added by Pond101 (talk) 10:30, 21 October 2011‎ (UTC)[reply]
Sure, so relax, and we'll work it out as we go. When you write a message to someone, please sign it by typing four tildes at the end (~~~~). --Epipelagic (talk) 10:50, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

A couple of points

[edit]

First, you should read the guidelines on verifiability and reliable sources. It is important you cite your statements with reliable sources so you can avoid any appearance that you are engaged in original research. Writing for Wikipedia is a sort of game which has rules, and to succeed with your articles you must play by the rules. Citing your commercial web site as a source is not acceptable. Instead, you need to find sources in places like Google Books (such as this one), or in Google Scholar or reputable magazines.

Second, please have a close look at this article. It seems to me that the text in Pond air pump should be merged into that article. Do you have a view on that? Regards. --Epipelagic (talk) 23:09, 21 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Easter eggs

[edit]

The links you have added to water aeration are what are known as easter eggs -- links that one might assume lead to one page but inf fact lead to a completely different page. In this case, they all lead to the page you created, which contains external links all to a single website (a pond pump vendor, one might presume). Such behavior makes one wonder if you are trying to promote said business? Please avoid this. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:38, 2 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
