FA list similar to WP:SWEEPS2023
[edit]@Phlsph7: I saw the great work at WP:SWEEPS2023, and want to create a similar chart for specific years at WP:URFA/2020A, or perhaps create a new chart when the 2023 sweeps are complete. Is there a way that I can create a chart similar to what is created for SWEEPS2023, but with a different year of GAs or with FAs? Thanks, Z1720 (talk) 03:37, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Z1720: That sounds like a great idea and I would be happy to help. The script can only create the columns for "Article", "Possibly unreferenced paragraphs", and "Maintenance tags". The rest has to be added manually. It shouldn't be too much work; I'll see what I can come up with and I'll let you know. For an old table of all FA articles, see User:Phlsph7/FA_list_of_unreferenced_paragraphs. For a previous FAR discussion, see Wikipedia_talk:Featured_article_review/archive_15#94_potential_candidates_for_featured_article_review. Phlsph7 (talk) 07:52, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Z1720: Done, I added the table below. It covers all the unreviewed FAs from Wikipedia:Unreviewed_featured_articles/2020/2004–2009 for which 6 or more unreferenced paragraphs were detected. It contains 53 articles and, from a short superficial look, many of them really need a FAR. Phlsph7 (talk) 09:36, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you so much! Is it possible to create a page or a tool where this can be created by anyone? I want to avoid the bus factor so that if you disappear, your tool can be used by others. It might also be annoying for you if I have to ping you every time I want to create or update a list. Currently, the tool has a way to input articles one at a time, but it would be helpful if I could tell the script to search for the 2010-2015 FACs myself, or create new parameters like "articles that are GAs that are attached to Wikiproject Video Games with 6+ unreferenced paragraphs". I'm thinking of something similar to what is at OTD where any user can input a date and fetch a query. Thoughts? Z1720 (talk) 15:11, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
- There are ways to do this but combining it into a single script would be a non-trivial task. It easier to use a combination of tools to get the desired effect. The script can process a list of articles at once by using to button "List Unreferenced Paragraphs". So you need to compose a list of the articles that meet your criteria. The website PetScan gives you all articles that belong to a specific category, a combination of categories, have certain templates, etc.
- For example, to get all featured articles from the WikiProject Video games you need to first figure out what the relevant categories are. In this case, the categories do not apply to articles but to talk pages. Sega is a featured article that belongs to the WikiProject Video games. If you open its talk page and scroll to the bottom, you see the categories Category:Wikipedia featured articles and Category:WikiProject Video games articles. Now you can open PetScan and enter "WikiProject Video games articles" and "Wikipedia featured articles" in the field categories (one line each). You need to navigate to "Page properties" on the top, change the namespace to "Talk", navigate back to "Categories", and click the button "Do it!". It gives you a list of 276 results.
- Select the full list, copy-paste it into excel (or something similar), and then only select the row with all the article names, and then copy-paste it into the script in the field "Article Titles", click the button "Start", and wait until it is finished. To get only articles with 6 or more unreferenced paragraphs, you can click the button "Copy" on the bottom, paste it back to excel, sort it by the number of unreferenced paragraphs and remove everything below 6. To get the result into wikitext format to share it with other editors, you can use https://www.tablesgenerator.com/mediawiki_tables.
- I'm not sure that there is an easy way to get the dates of the FAs. The table at Wikipedia:Unreviewed featured articles/2020/2004–2009 already has dates so could extract them from there and copy-paste them into an excel table. Maybe there are easier ways to perform all the steps above. Phlsph7 (talk) 16:14, 4 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Phlsph7: For WP:SWEEPS2023, how did you get a list of GAs by date of promotion? Z1720 (talk) 19:22, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Z1720: I got it from Mike Christie, who sent me a table via email. You can find the full table with dates at User:Phlsph7/GAListWithPromotionDates. I vaguely remember that for a few article names, there was some kind of problem. The table is from 2023. If you need the up-to-date version, you could try asking Mike Christie.
