December 13 2014
Thank you Philg88. You explained to me on my Teahouse question what the problem was with my subpage being critiqued for 2 disambiguation entries. I figured out why that had happened. It was when it was edited. The problem was due to my original citations. I have corrected them and I appreciate your help. JanvermontJanvermont (talk) 14:22, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
Sunil Kumar Verma
Please tell me what next about article on Sunil Kumar Verma i.e how can I start working on this now after it has been userfied?? I am new to wiki editing business...but will try my best Educationtemple (talk) 14:41, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
- @Educationtemple: Crisco 1492 has kindly offered to userfy the article and he will let you know when that has been done. You then need to ensure that it meets Wikipedia guidelines, particularly with regards to notability, which means adding the references you cited at the deletion review. If you are unsure what to do you can always ask at the Teahouse. Good luck! Philg88 ♦talk 15:50, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
Thanks Philg88 . Thanks for kind suggestion. I see that it has been userfied now. I will try my best to do justice with this. If unsure at some step, would request help. Once I have done it at my end, I will update you and the House accordingly. Regards. Educationtemple (talk) 16:01, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
- No problem. Cheers, Philg88 ♦talk 16:11, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
Hello Philg88 . I have worked on this article after it was userfied and re-written with all new evidences. Could you please review this for me so that it could be rescued as normal article out of userspace? User:Educationtemple/Sunil Kumar Verma Educationtemple (talk) 20:12, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
Sir, Philg88 I note that one editor has left a note to speedy delete the article that I have developed in my userspace after it was userfied. Could you please help to get this notice removed and review the new article with all the latest references discussed in DRV and then move it into the article space as appropriate. Thanks. Educationtemple (talk) 05:16, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
- @Educationtemple: Hi there, FreeRangeFrog kindly removed the speedy deletion notice from your draft before I got there so don't worry about that. Excellent work on the revised version, well done! That said, we don't normally have a large pull quote in the middle of an article—it can be precised and turned into article text with appropriate references. If you don't mind, I will do that along with a couple of tweaks to the style and grammar. Let me know if that course of action is OK with you. Cheers, Philg88 ♦talk 06:17, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
In fact, if you do these tweaks, it would be an honor indeed! Please go ahead Philg88 and thanks in advance. Educationtemple (talk) 10:13, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Educationtemple! All done and I hope that you are satisfied with the result! You might want to consider submitting this to the Did You Know? project, which would mean a link to the article from the main page. The hook might be something like: "Did you know that Sunil Kumar Verma was co-inventor of a technology that allows the identification of any bird, mammal or fish?" Best, Philg88 ♦talk 08:18, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
Wonderful Job! Dear Philg88 . Many Thanks......I will try to submit this to Did You Know? project as you suggested. Thanks again. Educationtemple (talk) 16:37, 22 November 2014 (UTC)
Dear Philg88 , I had a look of DYK project. I Read rules and tried to submit the article ..I fear that I may mess up the things during submission/nomination....May I request you to please give few more minutes and nominate it...?? The following DYK would be relevant =
Did you know that Sunil Kumar Verma was co-inventor of Universal primer technology, which allows identification of any unknown biological sample and its assignation to a known species source?
Please let me know if you could do this, please! Thanks. Educationtemple (talk) 15:07, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
and Yes, please let me know if you need my input on any specific article on advance science and technology related topics from anywhere in world, Specific topics related to Indian Educationists, Academicians, Academic Policies, Discoveries and innovations done in the world, Caste and religion related topics, or history related issues specifically the history of Indian subcontinent. I would be happy to work with you and provide my unbiased findings and share the knowledge. Educationtemple (talk) 15:20, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
- Done See Template:Did you know nominations/Sunil Kumar Verma May I suggest you put something on your user page? It looks a bit odd having a red-linked author in a DYK submission. Cheers, Philg88 ♦talk 17:21, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
Done Oh! I did not realize that! Thanks! As soon as I have more contributions on Wiki, I will add more sections on my userpage accordingly. I need to learn a lot though! Hope DYK for Sunil Kumar Verma would be voted positively by reviewers. Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 17:57, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
Hello Philg88 . After the nomination it got stuck at that stage. What is the next obvious step / stage? Just for my knowledge. Educationtemple (talk) 08:21, 30 November 2014 (UTC)
- @Educationtemple: Don't worry it's not stuck. Sometimes it takes a while for submissions to be reviewed. Cheers, Philg88 ♦talk 08:29, 30 November 2014 (UTC)
Wow! I just noticed that the article Sunil Kumar Verma was on main page on 23rd December 2014! That's great of you Philg88 ! Nice to work with you and learn from you!....Cheers!! Educationtemple (talk) 11:42, 25 December 2014 (UTC)
Hi again Philg88 . Respected editor @ Randykitty has changed the word 'discovery' to 'development' in Sunil Kumar Verma giving the reason that technology can not be discovered. Do you agree with this? I think that if technology can not be 'discovered', surely it could be 'invented' thats why in a patent document the term 'inventor' and 'invention' is used as was used in the patent documents pertaining to Universal primer technology (see the Abstract which reads as...The invention provides novel universal primers....") If you agree, I would recommend changing the word 'development' to 'invention'. Educationtemple (talk) 13:36, 25 December 2014 (UTC)
- Randykitty's change seems reasonable to me but "invention" might be better. Philg88 ♦talk 14:53, 25 December 2014 (UTC)
- "Invention/invented" is already being used in the article, too. It improves readility to vary wording a bit, not to become too repetitive. --Randykitty (talk) 15:06, 25 December 2014 (UTC)
Done Someone need to work on citations requirements that Randykitty has marked in the article. I could find at least one reliable source, the official website of DAAD where brief biography of Verma mentions all the points mentioned in the article. Will it suffice? If Yes, It may be cited as appropriate and cn tags may be removed. Thanks Philg88 and Randykitty for expert comments and editing Educationtemple (talk) 15:11, 25 December 2014 (UTC)
- Please go ahead and add the required citations. Cheers, Philg88 ♦talk 15:45, 25 December 2014 (UTC)
Done @ Philg88 . Added a reference No 23 it is the annual report published by commonwealth commission where they have cited the name of Sunil Kumar Verma on P41 in the list of scholars. Rest later, since I am tired now. Cheers!! Educationtemple (talk) 16:16, 25 December 2014 (UTC)
- Fair enough. It is Christmas Day after all! Best, Philg88 ♦talk 16:47, 25 December 2014 (UTC)
Oh! Dear Randykitty! You made me to do more research on this article! You have written on the edit of Philg88 "not clarified: what on Earth is a "continental award"?" Honestly speaking, I also do not know what is this award, but this is the name of award (Emerging forensic scientist continental award) which IAFS gives. Other recipients of this award were: David Exline, Senior Vice President, Gateway (Read in his biography), and writer of this book. Other Scientist who received this award in 1999 that I could find on net is This. Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 17:10, 25 December 2014 (UTC)
Dear Philg88 could you please remove the categories such as Unassessed India articles, Unassessed-Class India articles of Unknown-importance, Unknown-importance India articles etc from the talk page of Sunil Kumar Verma, of course if you think that it is appropriate at this stage since article has been featured on DYK. Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 13:03, 26 December 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry, but these categories are added by a bot and there's no point in removing them as they will only be added again. Once someone from Wikiproject India assesses the article they will disappear. Cheers, Philg88 ♦talk 16:11, 26 December 2014 (UTC)
That's OK Philg88 . Much more interesting was going on - on the talk page of Sunil Kumar Verma. Please read / comment when you find time. Cheers!! Educationtemple (talk) 16:23, 26 December 2014 (UTC)
Hello Philg88 ! I have done final tweaking at my end and also added the missing citations in Sunil Kumar Verma. Hope these would be acceptable and there would not be major issues now. This article somehow has taken lots of time, but it was worth as it also made DYK. In the light of UPT and Barcoding discussion as done recently on talk page of this article, it is possible that it would make a featured article one day soon. Thanks to you and all senior editors for all support, guidance and help.
I would like to move on to some other articles now, with your permission. I am thinking to work on articles for most important Awards & Honors that are given to Indian Citizens, professionals etc but that are missing from wikipedia. I will also take up project on improving the existing biographies of Indian achievers already on wiki and updating them with most recent information and knowledge. I personally learn a lot when I do research on people and their works and I enjoy it. Hope you would be with me in this endeavor as my senior guide. Regards and Cheer! Hope your Christmas was great! Educationtemple (talk) 09:15, 27 December 2014 (UTC)
- You don't need my permission to work on other articles−you are making great progress as an editor here. Just remember that citations are vital to establish notability. I'll give the Sunil article the once over once the holidays are finished. Best, Philg88 ♦talk 10:04, 27 December 2014 (UTC)
Sorry to bother you again dear Philg88 . I found some more interesting facts about the Universal primer technology of Verma and Singh. This technology was indeed used by Therion International, an independent animal testing lab in New York to uncover the biggest seafood scandal of Florida and other parts of America in several undercover investigations carried out by ABC7 Whistleblower and WKRG News 5 investigators, revealing that almost half of seafood was wrongly labelled as a more expensive variety. I have added this in the article Sunil Kumar Verma along with appropriate citations and links to online DNA testing reports mentioning clearly that technology of Verma and Singh was used for testing. Hope it will add value to article and demonstrate why the DYK feature of 23 December 2014 was a great news.
Can we make another DYK from this info: ....that Universal primer technology of Verma and Singh was used to uncover the biggest seafood scandal of Florida and other parts of America...... ! Views? Educationtemple (talk) 22:34, 27 December 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry but no. You can't renominate an article for DYK unless you expand it x5 or raise it to good article status. Cheers, Philg88 ♦talk 22:39, 27 December 2014 (UTC)
..and how can we raise it to good article status? Could you please give me one example of any biography which is listed as good article? I will understand. Educationtemple (talk) 23:05, 27 December 2014 (UTC)
- Please see the link in my previous post for the process by which an article is promoted. Richard Dawkins is an example of a Biology Good Article. Philg88 ♦talk 06:28, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks Philg88 . This article (R. Dawkins) is great! I dont think Verma can be developed to this extent, but I had tried my best to add some new genuine references and one extra paragraph in article to illustrate how important his discovery of universal primer technology was indeed not only for India but for entire world from some fact files. I found some important photos, award ceremonies, Plaque etc related to his career on Indianscholars Press. One plaque is signed by 10 Nobel Laureates, and President of India. That can go in article, if the copyright issue could be sorted out. Lets see! I will try...! Educationtemple (talk) 14:03, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
Hi Philg88 . Added one video and a photo in the article Sunil Kumar Verma. Kindly, please review when find time. Thanks in advance.
I am researching on another interesting biography, which is still in my user space here. Will bother you again once done. This biography is much more interesting! Cheers! Educationtemple (talk) 20:47, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
- Actuelly, we already have an article on Lalji Singh, the very same person... --Randykitty (talk) 20:59, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing that out Randykitty :-) @Educationtemple: Please start a new section if you have further queries - this one is far too long. Thanks! Philg88 ♦talk 21:21, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
Closure too speedy, involvement
About this ANI thread, you closed [1]. You closed it way too early, clearly discussion was going on. You left no option to reply, while the editor you quoted (Scottywong) had changed their argument and made grave accusations against me. Also, in your closing statement, you show to take sides, that is: you entered your opinion in the conclusion. That makes you an involved editor (quite simply: opinions go in the thread, uninvolved editors close). I note that in a previous ANI closure where we met, you did the same [2] (then, even allowing a partisan editor to edit & cleanup the record after your closure). -DePiep (talk) 12:30, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not sure quite what end your message is supposed to achieve. I told you where participants could continue the discussion if necessary, where I see Andy Mabbett is waiting for you to reply. At the same time, I fail to see how my summary of what another admin said in an ANI closing summary can be construed as in any way WP:INVOLVED. Philg88 ♦talk 16:16, 24 November 2014 (UTC)
- If you don't understand what my initial ANI post requested, why do you think you are capable of concluding it? Here you are asking for clarification afterwards, you should have asked in the ANI thread of course. Here you repeat that you have an opinion in this (however uninformed). As for Pigsonthewing "waiting" for a reply: not so. Pigsontewing started stalking me (not so strange, since you gave them a free pass for the earlier untalked reverts). All in all you show & repeat here that you have concluded the ANI without reading it, and biased against me. (And previously you allowed an editor change your closed ANI discussion, helping whitewashing your own actions and cloring me bad). Most disgusting point in your attitude, after not reading the points I mentioned, is that you start blaming me for not going to talkpages, while Pigsonthewing/Mabbett actually did the edit warring without any talkpage contribution. Disgusting attitude. -DePiep (talk) 10:01, 25 November 2014 (UTC)
- After my opening sentence, I wrote: You closed it way too early, clearly discussion was going on. You did not respond to *that* in any way, your response here is evading and redirecting. You have the freedom of an admin to do so, in fact to ignore any text written. That must be the Admin's Sixth Pillar then. -DePiep (talk) 18:45, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

Vijender Kumar
Dear Philg88 , as an attempt to enrich the Wikipedia:WikiProject India, I have drafted the article on Vijender Kumar, Professor of Law, who has recently assumed charge as Vice Chancellor of National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam, India. Please see the draft article here in my user space (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Educationtemple/sandbox/Vijender_Kumar): I shall be grateful if you could kindly review this and if appropriate, please move to main section. Thanks in advance. Educationtemple (talk) 15:16, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Educationtemple and welcome back. I've done some minor copyediting on the article but I'm afraid at the moment it is not suitable for main article space. The sections on "Education and career" and "Contributions" are completely unreferenced so you need to add appropriate citations from reliable sources in line with Wikipedia's WP:GNG/Biographies of living persons policy. Philg88 ♦talk 06:25, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
Dear Philg88 thanks for comments. I shall work on these points ASAP. Educationtemple (talk) 06:59, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
Dear Philg88 did some more tweaking, added some more references in "Education and career" and "Contributions". Please see the latest version (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Educationtemple/sandbox/Vijender_Kumar). If not still OK, I will have to do more research on the net to find out more about him. Please let me know. Thanks. Educationtemple (talk) 10:50, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
I already see his name on the article Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan as well as the article on National Law University and Judicial Academy, Assam (As Vice Chancellor of the University) . I shall update the inline links from these pages if this article is approved. Educationtemple (talk) 11:08, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

- I am afraid this is going to turn into a revert spree with me and him undoing each other's edits so someone needs to step in.Rajmaan (talk) 23:13, 1 December 2014 (UTC)
- @Rajmaan: Hey my friend. This looks like a matter for WP:Dispute Resolution/Reliable sources noticeboard rather than something I can wave a magic wand at. FWIW, looking at the source I would say that a journal published by the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at University of Pennsylvania under the editorship of Victor H. Mair would generally be considered reliable. Cheers, Philg88 ♦talk 06:01, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
- I discussed the problematic content at User talk:Hzh and decided on what to remove. (And as a side note, Mair doesn't publish "mainstream" material in that journal nor accepts material by people with established credentials, the reason Mair runs this journal is to give a platform for strange theories regarding ancient central asian connections or influence in China, I've seen articles there claiming indo-european provenance for words in Chinese that basically any mainstream linguist would dismiss, but that's not the specific issue here)Rajmaan (talk) 06:07, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
- @Rajmaan: Looks like you have a constructive dialog underway with Hzh, so I don't think that there's any danger of an edit war developing. Cheers, Philg88 ♦talk 06:31, 2 December 2014 (UTC)

Is the BLP vio rationale only for articles? Should "grossly insulting..." be the rationale when directed against users/at userspace? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:15, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
- AFAIK, a User/User Talk page does not fall within Wikipedia's BLP policy so I guess that rationale is only for articles. "Grossly insulting ..." is a good catch all as it's pretty wooly. Philg88 ♦talk 09:25, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

James Matheson, William Jardine (merchant), History of Jardine, Matheson & Core drug trafficking
Are you contending that they i)opium is not a drug/narcotic, ii)that Jardine and Matheson were not smugglers.
Would you be brave enough to rewrite these three articles to remove opium smuggling from their resumes. If not "drug trafficker" what do you suggest? Would the category one up be agreeable Category:Smugglers.--KTo288 (talk) 19:49, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
- Okay Category:Smugglers added to the two, with smuggler in place of drug trafficker in the case of Jardine, because even by the definitions of the time that was what they did.--KTo288 (talk) 19:52, 4 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hi there, and thanks for the message. I'm not contending that opium isn't a drug nor that Jardine and Matheson weren't opium smugglers because that's what reliable sources say. What I am against is linking this to modern day drug trafficking, which is a completely different pigeon and doesn't factor in the social and moral context of the first half of the 19th century. Of course, if one wanted to split hairs, it was the Chinese who actually smuggled the drug into the country, JM just flogged it to them off Lintin Island or further up the coast. Candidate nominations for Guild coordinators to serve from January 1 to June 30, 2015, are currently underway. The nomination period will close at 23:59 on December 15 (UTC), after which voting will commence until 23:59 on December 31, 2014. Self-nominations are welcomed. Please consider getting involved; it's your Guild and it won't coordinate itself, so if you'd like to help coordinate Guild activities we'd love to hear from you. Hi there,I wanted to ask you that what is the meaning of good faith edits?? Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Devesh 4-2-2000 (talk • contribs) 17:05, 11 December 2014 (UTC)
- @Devesh 4-2-2000: In the context of why I reverted your edit on Lucknow, it means that you made an edit with the right motive but that it didn't fit in with established Wikipedia policies and guidelines. You can read more about good faith here. Cheers, Philg88 ♦talk 17:48, 11 December 2014 (UTC)

Day 3
This is day 3 of a large scale overload cyber attack on the Swedish Internet. My only access is via an old phone with an obsolete webhost. So no edits, no mail, nothing. Just to let you know. w.carter-Talk 10:58, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- Hey, @W.carter: do we have article about this cyber attack? Sounds like it will pass our WP:NEVENTS. Jim Carter 11:02, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- I have no idea. You have to look, I can't see anything here. Most pages can't be reached, WP is one of the few that is open to me. Even writing this takes forever on this old thing I have to use now. w.carter-Talk 11:12, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- @Jim Cartar: (I'm posting here to keep the conversation intact.) Back online, for now. The attack was actually three consecutive attacks, but not noteworthy since they did not affect the entire system just most of it. A hacker group called Lizard Squad, thought to originate in Russia, has claimed responsibility for it. The were out to cause trouble for the gaming company Electronic Arts and blacked out large parts of Sweden in the process. In a statement they say that the attacks will continue on this and other gaming companies until Christmas. Through open servers they managed to access 25 million computers and use them in an overload. Best, w.carter-Talk 15:36, 12 December 2014 (UTC)

Sorry to hear that kompis. From my experiences in China, I know how annoying an outage like that can be. Chin up and I'm sure they'll fix it soon! Philg88 ♦talk 16:46, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- Oh. Sorry to hear that @W.carter:. I hope it will be fixed soon. But if we get news coverage for a good amount of time then an article maybe possible. Btw what does kompis mean? Jim Carter (from public cyber) 18:57, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
- @Jim Cartar: Yes, it's annoying, but we'll manage. It's fixed for now and I've hooked up at an old account on a small server that is not affected, a bit slower that usual but working. Sort of like working with Morse code while the aliens are attacking. ;) Kompis is Swedish for "my friend". Cheers, w.carter-Talk 19:38, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
Happy Lucia!
"Good Morning" Philg88:
Thanks for all of your contributions to improve Wikipedia!
13 December is the day when Swedes perplex the rest of the world by showing up way too early in the morning dressed in white tunics, candles in their hair, singing and bringing saffron buns and breakfast in bed to nice people. Hope you have a bright day!

- (talk page stalker) (humourous message) You mean December 13 is Taylor Swift's birthday, W.carter? DEW. Adrenaline (Nahnah4) 09:58, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
- I doubt if they'll rename it "St Taylor's Day" but you could try ... . Philg88 ♦talk 10:09, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
- She's always welcome to apply for "being Lucia" and help us scare the crap out of the Nobel laureates on this morning. Most of them stay on a couple of days after the ceremony and get morning treatment. :) w.carter-Talk 10:16, 13 December 2014 (UTC)
