Daisy Bacon
Penny, I've had a go at Daisy Bacon as discussed on the talk page, and was hoping you'd have time to take a look at it and see what you think. I would like to take it to FAC but I think a peer review first would be a good idea. One concern I have is that it relies very heavily on the Powers biography, which is the only source that does more than mention Bacon in passing other than contemporary newspaper interviews. I have a few other resources on pulp fiction but they all discuss the writers rather than the editors so I am not expecting to find anything to add from there.
If you don't have time to look, no worries; I know a couple of other people I can ask. Thanks. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 18:54, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
- Mike Christie, Thanks for the heads up! I don't know much about the GA process, and I usually prefer shorter articles, for my own uses, but this certainly looks thoroughly sourced and well-organized. Good luck! Penny Richards (talk) 19:31, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks -- I've started a peer review for it and I'm sure I'll get more comments there. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 20:12, 16 June 2023 (UTC)

In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! The file File:IreneStegun.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
This photo is in PD, and is now on commons File:Irene A. Stegun.jpg
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Artem.G (talk) 09:31, 31 July 2023 (UTC)

Question about Pinterest
Hi Penny, will the Women in Red collections always be in the form month-year-editathons, e.g. February-2024-editathons? What happens when there are year-long events such as 1day1woman - where do these go? Thanks — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 19:15, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- I mostly put images with the month when their articles were added to the editathon page, just because that's what is most convenient. (For example, most pictures added this week would go in February 2024; exceptions would be if there were any early-start articles for the March editathons, I might add those to the March 2024 board, to give it an early start too.) The WiR Pinterest boards exist to show a sample of what we're doing as a project to a broader audience; they're not meant to be any kind of precise document. Penny Richards (talk) 03:54, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- I just figured out what you're asking! For the #1day1woman or yearly themes, I think the editathon page links to the January pinboard, as a default. Penny Richards (talk) 03:56, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for confirming - so the usual expectation is to put them in the month when that event started? I have seem different practices. On 1day1woman 2024 the link has now been updated to February, but on 1day1woman 2023 the link remained to January. Perhaps it doesn't matter too much ... — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 11:34, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
- As long as the link leads to one of our Pinterest boards, I think it's fine. But it's nice to know someone is looking at the details and wanting them right, so thank you! Penny Richards (talk) 15:10, 22 February 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to join New pages patrol
Hello Penny Richards!
- The New Pages Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
- We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
- Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
- Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
- If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.
Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

Uploading images
Hi Penny Richards. Please provide more descriptive file names for the files you upload. You can find some guidance on how to do this at WP:FILENAME. Strings of numbers or other characters aren't very helpful. The file's being discussed at WP:MCQ needed to be renamed per WP:FNC#2. In addition, you might want to take a look at WP:IUP#FORMAT for reference, but generally it's better to upload photos in jpg format than in png format. Finally, it looks like in some cases you might be use a camera to take photos of images you're finding online, and then perhaps even enlarging them (sometimes even quite bit). Things would probably work better if you just download the image you want to your computer and then upload it from there, without adding the extra step of photograhing it. As for enlarging or cropping, the are some pretty good users helping out at WP:GL who have can do lots of that for you if you don't have the right software or skills to do so yourself. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:49, 4 April 2024 (UTC)
- Marchjuly: Hello. I usually do name my uploads properly, yes, but you found a few that I did wrong, probably in haste. I'm glad they're getting fixed now. Thank you. I only ever use the Screenshot utility on my laptop to capture images from newspaper pages and old yearbooks online, no extra steps or cameras involved. I can work on doing that differently, so we have jpgs instead. (I don't think I ever, ever enlarge images, though; I usually have to reduce them to get under the maximum for non-free uploads.) -- Penny Richards (talk) 03:01, 4 April 2024 (UTC)

Translation contest
Hi Penny Richards, I see that you have added two articles as entries to the translation contest. The articles are Kathleen Moore Knight and Leigh Richmond. I do not see that they are translations of articles. Am I missing something? Best, WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 23:08, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi WomenArtistUpdates! Before this week, Leigh Richmond only had an article in de wiki, and Kathleen Moore Knight only had an article in fr wiki. I used those articles as starting points for the en wiki articles I started this week. I thought I included the right language in my edit summaries, hmmm. But anyway, that's the explanation. I found a couple American women writers who only had articles in other language wikis, and made them English articles starting from those. Penny Richards (talk) 23:41, 18 July 2024 (UTC)
- My mistake Penny...doh! Thanks. WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 00:05, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- No trouble; it's always interesting to me to find US biographies that only exist in non-English wikis. (A lot of film bios are only in it wiki, for example.) Penny Richards (talk) 01:12, 19 July 2024 (UTC)

Replaceable non-free use File:FannyEllsworth1926.png
Thanks for uploading File:FannyEllsworth1926.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, this image has been moved to Commons as a pre-1929 publication in the US; it is no longer a non-free image. Penny Richards (talk) 14:39, 29 August 2024 (UTC)
