[edit]Good morning from the UK passengerpidgeon.
You are absolutely right about the comments on Ewan McGregor, only in my mode of ranting rather than the factual basis of my comments. His high public profile and open support for UNICEF fundraising has had the effect of removing tens of millions of dollars from the Syrian, South Sudanese and Iraqi refugees by channeling it to the UN who take 35% before sub-contracting the NGO's to do the actual work and take the risks. I know this as I have worked for the UN for over 10 years and have seen the greed and corruption first hand. His acceptance of his OBE was a very good career move for taking no risks whatsoever. It has furthered his career greatly. I feel sorry for the real aid workers wo die in hundreds every year and get no recognition whatsoever.
Don't get me started on "Dame" Angelina Jolie.
However, again you were right, apologies and I will look for a different avenue to challenge these injustices...

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. - You did not clearly indicate why the band is notable. In order to be included in the encyclopedia, a band must be written about in reliable third-party sources, such as newspapers. I searched your band on Google and it does not appear to have any news coverage. Passengerpigeon (talk) 10:31, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
the band was disbanded in 2008,the band had huge popularity in 2006,and I think the people of our country should know about this crew,so what should I do? Shahiduzzaman Shuvo (talk) 10:34, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
- You should add some reliable sources to the article. If you can establish that the band is notable, I will remove the speedy deletion templates. Passengerpigeon (talk) 10:35, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of User talk:Lodha-palava
[edit]
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on User talk:Lodha-palava, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. (See section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.
- It appears to be a clear copyright infringement of http://lodha-palava.com/. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. However, even if you use one of these processes to release copyrighted material to Wikipedia, it still needs to comply with the other policies and guidelines to be eligible for inclusion. If you would like any assistance with this, you can ask a question at the help desk.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. April 2016
[edit]Hello Passengerpigeon. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know, however, that you shouldn't tag pages as lacking context (CSD A1) and content (CSD A3) moments after they are created, as you did at Henry Wilmer. It is also suggested that pages that might meet CSD A7 criteria not be tagged for deletion immediately after they are created. It's usually best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Tagging such pages in a very short space of time may drive away well-meaning contributors, which is not good for Wikipedia. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), copyright violations (G12) and pure vandalism/blatant hoaxes (G3) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. Thanks. Speedy deletion nomination of Elizabeth Shaw (jeweller & metalsmith)
[edit]Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, introducing inappropriate pages, such as Elizabeth Shaw (jeweller & metalsmith), is not in accordance with our policies. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Under section G3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, the page has been nominated for deletion.
- @C.Fred: Did you press the wrong button on Twinkle? I moved a misplaced AfC submission from mainspace to draft space, and the resulting redirect was certainly not vandalism. Passengerpigeon (talk) 01:20, 8 May 2016 (UTC)
- We overlapped. You moved the page at about the same time I tagged it G3. And why G3? Compare it with Jill Chism. —C.Fred (talk) 01:21, 8 May 2016 (UTC)
- @C.Fred: Yes, that's odd. The contents are the same. But is G3 really applicable in this situation? Passengerpigeon (talk) 01:24, 8 May 2016 (UTC)
- Three pages so far with the same content, and one of the editors creating pages is named Poopsiclenut. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark. —C.Fred (talk) 01:25, 8 May 2016 (UTC)

- Also, do you have a list of pages created by this supposed sockpuppeteer? Passengerpigeon (talk) 01:34, 8 May 2016 (UTC)
- You'll notice I haven't tagged that one for speedy yet. When the Jill Chism page was created, I waited to see if there was any expansion. There wasn't, so I tagged it A7. Then two more pages showed up with the same content. Now it's either students who are only half-following directions or it's a user up to shenanigans. Then a fourth article appears, but with a touch of content—but under a fourth name. So, I ask the user what the deal is. —C.Fred (talk) 01:39, 8 May 2016 (UTC)

- That page is about a fictional artist whose persona was invented as one of the contributors to a parody website. It has the same pattern as all of the other articles, but I had to PROD it instead of flagging it with A11 because the fictional persona exists outside of Wikipedia. @MRD2014: Thanks! I have never seen anything like that before - fast-paced vandalism involving multiple users at a rate of about 10 seconds per edit! Do you know what could have caused this? Perhaps a request by a media personality, like the Colbert Elephant incident? Passengerpigeon (talk) 02:36, 29 May 2016 (UTC)
- Back in October, Utley was involved in a nasty collision in Game 2 of the 2015 National League Division Series against the New York Mets that broke Ruben Tejada's leg. Tonight, Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard threw behind Utley (probably as retaliation) and the home plate umpire ejected Syndergaard. He later hit two home runs in the game. Mets fans REALLY hate him right now. —MRD2014 (formerly Qpalzmmzlapq) T C 02:41, 29 May 2016 (UTC)

- What I was saying was that you should not tag short pages for speedy deletion with {{db-a3}} (no content) or {{db-a1}} (no context), until 10 minutes have passed. Often, users create short or empty articles and then come back a few minutes later to add all of the page content. In the case of the article you tagged, the page creator had removed all of the page content. We can interpret this as the page author wanting to have the page deleted, so you should have tagged it for deletion with {{db-g7}} (author requested deletion) instead of {{db-a3}} (no content). New page patrolling is a very important task, so please ask me if you need any help. Thanks, Passengerpigeon (talk) 12:48, 29 May 2016 (UTC)

[edit]- these edits I changed are not starship9000. These are Vote (X) for Change. --166.137.96.7 (talk) 03:38, 30 May 2016 (UTC)
- Actually, no, they are Starship9000 socks. I actually reported all of those socks to SPI as socks of Vote (X), but it turns out I was incorrect and the clerk there concluded that their behavior does not match up with Vote (X). Later, I found another sockpuppeteer, Starship9000, whose account naming (Username on tyres) and behavior (creation of attack pages with offensive titles but innocuous or empty content) matches these socks perfectly, so I retagged them as such.
Also, sorry to point fingers, but why is a new editor like you involved with sockpuppet tagging as their first edits? Are you in any way related to Vote (X) or Starship9000? Passengerpigeon (talk) 03:46, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Hello Passengerpigeon. Actually yes, this desert is a hoax started by a troll community in Turkish internet society as they are trying to name the new android version after this name. I personally deleted this article from Turkish Wikipedia. However if you insist that the article should stay, it is up to you. --Eldarion (talk) 12:41, 31 May 2016 (UTC)
- @Eldarion: I actually checked the revision history on the page after removing your deletion template, and noticed you said it was a hoax, but I searched the dessert online and found several mentions of it so decided not to replace the tag. Are you saying that the mentions of the dessert outside of Wikipedia are actually being fabricated by a troll group? If so, I will replace the speedy deletion tag. Also, keep in mind that to tag hoaxes for speedy deletion, use the template {{db-hoax}} instead. The template you used, {{db-vandalism}}, is for obvious vandal pages, such as pages filled with profanities, not well-written hoaxes like the page Namik (dessert), which led me to remove the tag as the page wasn't blatant vandalism.
- Well the first source is empty as you can see, and the second one is a regular web site that anyone can add information, no need to verify from a secondary source. --Eldarion (talk) 14:28, 31 May 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. You recently contested the speedy deletion request. Your first reason is valid - (There does appear to be some information on the subject) - my error.
The second reason - that it is an attack article - "material intended purely to harass or intimidate a person" - is pretty precise - it is pretty much only controversies. Let us also take into consideration that the BLP was not convicted and it may even be a BLP1 problem. It also seems to me that the sources are played around in order to ruin the BLP subject.
Given that this may be a BLP problem - article I will put back the speedy deletion request and we could discuss on talk page. CaseeArt Talk 14:30, 10 June 2016 (UTC)

User group: New Page Reviewr
[edit]Hello Passengerpigeon.
Based on the patrols you made of new pages during a qualifying period in 2016, your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed.
New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.
- Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
- Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
- Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:34, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)
New Page Review - newsletter
[edit]- Breaking the back of the backlog
If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.
- Second set of eyes
Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.
- Getting the tools we need - 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey: Please vote
With some tweaks to their look, and some additional features, Page Curation and New Pages Feed could easily be the best tools for patrollers and reviewers. We've listed most of what what we need at the 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey. Voting starts on 28 November - please turn out to make our bid the Foundation's top priority. Please help also by improving or commenting on our Wishlist entry at the Community Wishlist Survey. Many other important user suggestions are listed at at Page Curation.

RC Patrol-related Proposals in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey
[edit]Greetings Recent Changes Patrollers!
This is a one-time-only message to inform you about technical proposals related to Recent Changes Patrol in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:
- Adjust number of entries and days at Last unpatrolled
- Editor-focused central editing dashboard
- "Hide trusted users" checkbox option on watchlists and related/recent changes (RC) pages
- Real-Time Recent Changes App for Android
- Shortcut for patrollers to last changes list
Further, there are more than 20 proposals related to Watchlists in general that you may be interested in reviewing. (and over 260 proposals in all, across many aspects of wikis)
Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.
Note: You received this message because you have transcluded {{User wikipedia/RC Patrol}} (user box) on your user page. Since this message is "one-time-only" there is no opt out for future mailings.

The Braces
[edit]Why did you delete my addition of The Braces to the list of ska bands? Denisthien13 (talk) 06:35, 30 December 2016 (UTC)
- Most likely because you didn't follow the embedded guideline that states you should only add bands with existing Wikipedia articles. NJZombie (talk) 02:32, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
New Page Review - newsletter No.2
[edit]- A HUGE backlog
We now have 808 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.
The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.
- Second set of eyes
Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.
- Abuse
This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and
- this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
- this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
- This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.
Coordinator election
[edit]Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

New Page Review - newsletter No.3
[edit]Voting for coordinators has now begun HERE and will continue through/to 23:59 UTC Monday 06 March. Please be sure to vote. Any registered, confirmed editor can vote. Nominations are now closed.
- Still a MASSIVE backlog
We now have 808 New Page Reviewers but despite numerous appeals for help, the backlog has NOT been significantly reduced.
If you asked for the New Page Reviewer right, please consider investing a bit of time - every little helps preventing spam and trash entering the mainspace and Google when the 'NO_INDEX' tags expire.
