Your draft article
[edit]Hello, PankajVer, and welcome to Wikipedia! Peridon asked me to have a look at your draft article about SoftAge.
I've looked at your draft. This is a very nice looking article and I can tell you have worked hard on it.
The first question I asked: Does the company meet the requirements at WP:CORP to have an article here? In other words, is the company notable (that basically means famous)? Notability requires significant coverage from independent reliable sources - there must be outside sources writing ABOUT the company. You have 24 references, which is great, but let's see if they are independent reliable sources as Wikipedia defines them, and if they amount to significant coverage. Things like D&B and NASSCOM listings don't count much toward notability. Press releases and references to the company's own websites definitely don't count, because they are not independent. Things that might count: There's a news item from the Khaleej Times (ref #2) which does appear to be significantly about the company. The Amar Ujala item (ref #9) seems to be about a local infrastructure registry, not significantly about the company. What we need is things like newspaper articles, and not with just a passing mention, but with significant coverage about the company. The sources do not have to be in English, although it helps. Major awards can help for notability, but the awards won by this company are not major; they are more like "one of the top 100" type listings; so they don't help toward notability.
Bottom line, I don't think this article would survive at Wikipedia if it was nominated for deletion. I think the consensus would be that it does not meet the requirements of WP:CORP, because it does not have enough outside sources writing significantly about it. That's a judgment about the company itself, not about your article, which is very well written. The problem is that if the sources aren't there, they aren't there; there is no way to get around that by rewriting. As Peridon pointed out, sometimes there just isn't very much written about a business-to-business enterprise like this.
But I'm just one person, and if you want to submit it as an article anyhow, I will give you suggestions for improvement. What do you want to do? --MelanieN (talk) 22:12, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
- Hi MelanieN, Thanks a lot for offering to help!! PankajVer seems to have given up on this one. Since I helped him with the formulation of the article, I would take it forward. Looks like the company has been covered by quite a few newspapers and TV channels in the past few months, so there are about 20 full coverages now. The question is, how do I go about this? Should I remove the cursory references entirely? Or should I just add the new ones? Also, yes, it would really help if you can give further suggestions for improvement. Thanks again :) Ish malhotra (talk) 04:25, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
