Speedy deletion nomination of Portal:Postorgasmic illness syndrome

A tag has been placed on Portal:Postorgasmic illness syndrome requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section P2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a portal based on a topic for which there is no non-stub header article, and there are not at least three non-stub articles detailing subject matter that would be appropriate to discuss under the title of that portal.

That's the "official" notification, but it's not very clear! The idea is that a portal should introduce a wide topic area covered by dozens or hundreds of Wikipedia articles - Portal:Cornwall or Portal:Jane Austen are typical examples. Conflict of interest in Wikipedia

Hi POIS22 I work on conflict of interest issues here in Wikipedia. Pretty much of all of your edits to date are about Postorgasmic illness syndrome (POIS), and this syndrome is also reflected in your username. Your account is what we call a single purpose account or "SPA", as we call it in our acronym-mad Wikipediaspeak. (Please do read the link there, to see the community's experience with SPA editors)

Many people with a SPA account have some outside interest that creates a conflict of interest in Wikipedia, so I'm giving you notice of our Conflict of Interest guideline and Terms of Use, and will have some comments and requests for you below. My goal here is to have a dialogue, and I hope you are open to that.

If you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, please:

avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your circle, your organization, its competitors, projects or products;
instead propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you.

Comments and requests

Wikipedia is a widely-used reference work and managing conflict of interest is essential for ensuring the integrity of Wikipedia and retaining the public's trust in it. As in academia, COI is managed here in two steps - disclosure and a form of peer review. Please note that there is no bar to being part of the Wikipedia community if you have a conflict of interest; there are just some things we ask you to do (and if you are paid, some things you need to do).

Disclosure is the most important, and first, step. While I am not asking you to disclose your identity (anonymity is strictly protecting by our WP:OUTING policy) would you please disclose if you have some connection with firms of any kind that are addressing POIS, or any advocacy groups addressing it? You can answer how ever you wish (giving personally identifying information or not), but if there is a connection, please disclose it. After you respond (and you can just reply below), perhaps we can talk a bit about editing Wikipedia, to give you some more orientation to how this place works. Hi Jytdog. Yes, this is a single purpose account. No, I do not have any conflict of interest. I am not connected with any company or group. I am not connected with any firms of any kind that are addressing POIS, or any advocacy groups addressing it.

My only interest here is to present accurate information from academic and other reputable sources about this condition. I hope that all of my edits reflect this. I have largely re-written the article on POIS by following all of the Wikipedia rules that I know of, including rules for writing medical articles. As for peer review, I had specifically asked for it in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Medicine.

As you can see in the article edit history and talk page, I did receive feedback from User:Doc James (article history) and User:Ozzie10aaaa (article talk page). OK, so clearly this is something you are passionate about - very passionate. People come edit for many reasons, but one of the main ones is passion. That passion is a double-edged sword. It drives people to contribute which has the potential for productive work, but it can also lead to WP:TENDENTIOUS editing, which is really destructive. WP:ADVOCACY is one of our biggest bedevilments. Please do read those two essays, as they may be of some help to you down the road. I wanted to add something really important here. What is against policy, is using Wikipedia as a vehicle for any kind of advocacy. This is described in the section, WP:NOTADVOCACY, of the What Wikipedia is not policy and pillar. COI is just one form of advocacy - a kind driven by external relationships and money (usually).
