Restore protection?
Hello OlEnglish. Since the protection on your user page expired it has been hit by vandal(s) on a regular basis. Would you like the protection restored? As I am not an admin I can't do it myself but I will be happy to file a WP:RFPP if you would like me to do so. Enjoy the rest of your weekend in spite of this. MarnetteD|Talk 21:37, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
- Oops I forgot that you are an admin :-) Several of us are happy to keep reverting this troll so please proceed as you see fit. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 22:08, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
- Well. I just got back from vacation so I missed all the hub-bub here. Hm, what an odd fellow, seemed intent on turning me into a female for some reason? Anyways, thank you very much for the reverts and protections. -- Ϫ 07:30, 3 January 2016 (UTC)

Nomination
Hey,
I saw that you would be willing to nominate users to become an administrator. I'm fairly new to wikipedia, but have really been enjoying working on counter-vandalism. If you could nominate me, I'd really appreciate it.

Please delete Patriot Rail Corporation page
I work for Patriot Rail Company (previously Patriot Rail CORPORATION). Patriot Rail Corporation no longer exists. It was bought by SteelRiver in 2012. This page is causing a LOT of confusion with our customers as it is not up to date.
If I cannot update it, please delete it. Thanks for your help!

- Hello Maureen. You CAN update it. But the way you were going about it was against our Neutral point of view policy, in which articles must be balanced and written in a non-promotional manner. You can also nominate the article for deletion if you'd like, using the Articles for deletion or proposed deletion process. -- Ϫ 21:54, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
- Maureen, I've decided to compromise and restore your rewrite but I've removed the overtly promotional bits. The category must be renamed under a separate process. -- Ϫ 22:10, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
Deleting my article

OurMayors (talk) 22:02, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
- I've added a note on your talk page regarding adding promotional content to Wikipedia. This is the same reason this article has been deleted in the past, as well as it being a likely copyright violation. Please read the messages on your talk page. -- Ϫ 22:09, 8 February 2016 (UTC)
- The article, African American Mayors Association, exists again. I did some work to clean up some of the promotion that oozed from it and did some other fixes, but it's still unsourced and probably suffers from the same other problems as before.—Godsy(TALKCONT) 15:00, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

I've just been editing a page you have spent a lot of time on (and I will add done a good job). I understand there is a way of doing this, however I'm fairly new to this. It would have been nice to have been told about references rather than have everything deleted. I had to gather the information up several times before I realised what I needed to do. I read "Please do not bite the newcomers" and I'm not sure this was adhered to. You could have made it much easier for me to include references had you sent me a message rather than delete what I had posted.Spot1026 (talk) 07:54, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

Overflow of your Dashboard page
Dear User:OlEnglish. Your User:OlEnglish/Dashboard page is on overflow, and appears at Category:Pages where template include size is exceeded (see the corresponding talk page). As a result, some parts of your page are not correctly displayed. Perhaps, you should consider splitting this page. Since template {{Admin dashboard}} seems to be the culprit, this is a good candidate to be moved to another page. Best regards. Pldx1 (talk) 15:24, 13 March 2016 (UTC)
- Fixed Thanks -- Ϫ 08:18, 15 March 2016 (UTC)
- Hi. I am here again. Template {{Admin dashboard}} creates temporarily overflows, that sometimes cure by themselves, but come back when the pages are near the limit. To solve this kind of problems, there is now a more efficient version of the template, that provides the same functionality while being less resources consuming (and also remains inside it's box when minimized). Perhaps you will transclude {{Admin dashboard/light}} instead of {{Admin dashboard}}. Best regards. Pldx1 (talk) 13:56, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

Review/assessment for Downtown Eastside article
Hi OlEnglish,
I'm reaching out to still-active editors who have contributed to the Downtown Eastside article, and you're one of the very few people on that list. I'd like to get this article through to Featured Article status, and would like to get input from other editors. There has been very little discussion on this article since I started working on it. I've requested assessment for A-class status at Wikproject Vancouver and Wikiproject Canada. Any feedback, thoughts, or advice you might have would be very welcome. Help With Notability
Hi,
I, along with a few other users, finished writing an article a few weeks ago on Plum Grove Junior High School. Upon completion of the article, we were sent a message by a Wikipedian who thinks that our draft will likely not meet the notability standards because it is a junior high. We have been trying to improve our article to better fulfill notability requirements, but lack the expertise to determine what is needed to make our article notable. If you have time, we appreciate if you could take a look at it and let us know what improvements should be made. I am not sure if you typically help people with notability issues, but I saw that you had offered assistance with general issues on a Wikipedia help page.
The link to the draft is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Plum_Grove_Junior_High_School
Please send me a message on my talk page or email me if this is at all possible.
Thank you, Nayakm (talk) 23:06, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
Extended confirmed protection
Hello, OlEnglish. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.
Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.
In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
- Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
- A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins
Hello,
Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. New deal for page patrollers
Hi OlEnglish,
In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.
Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.
Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
A new user right for New Page Patrollers
Hi OlEnglish.
A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.
It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.
If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:48, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

New 10,000 Challenge for Canada
Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge is up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge for the UK which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Canada like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1600 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. I would like some support from Canadian wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile! An anonymous editor left a weird message on my talk page about wanting to alter something on my (protected) user page. You deleted the message before I had even noticed it ... which is fine, but my question is: How did you know it was there? The Anon had only left the one message so it's not like you were following him/her/it around wikipedia. Just curious. - DavidWBrooks (talk) 17:18, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) @DavidWBrooks: when an {{Edit protected}} or similar template is used to request an edit, it shows up in a maintenance category under Wikipedia edit requests for assessment & action. I guess OE is one of the admins who monitor those areas. Other templates that behave like that include the help-me, speedy-deletion, and block-appeal requests.—Odysseus1479 19:59, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
