Speedy deletion nomination of Drowningman
[edit]A tag has been placed on Drowningman requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ttonyb (talk) 06:55, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Copyright problems with Drowningman
[edit]Hello. Concerning your contribution, Drowningman, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.myspace.com/drowningman2006. As a copyright violation, Drowningman appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. Drowningman has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.
If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License (CC-BY-SA) then you should do one of the following:
- If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Drowningman and send an email with the message to permissions-enwikimedia.org. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
- If a note on the original website states that it is licensed under the CC-BY-SA license, leave a note at Talk:Drowningman with a link to where we can find that note.
- If you hold the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-enwikimedia.org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the CC-BY-SA and GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Drowningman.
However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright concerns very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Thank you. Shem (talk) 09:23, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Drowningman
[edit]The Drowningman article has taken a couple of hits for copyrighted material, which you've now removed. You mustn't think that we've got it in for you. A couple of things you need to know:
- Removing the {{csd}} tag will not stop the article being deleted, since it has been listed for deletion automatically. You need to place the {{hangon}} tag on the page explaining why the article needs to be kept.
- The article itself is written more as a review of essay than as an encyclopaedia entry. It needs to adopt a Neutral Point of View, cite notability and avoid unverified claims.
Good luck. Shem (talk) 10:13, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
- I've re-instated the {{csd}} tag - because it can only be removed after consideration for speedy deletion, rather than by you, and most importantly, because instructions for using the {{hangon}} tag are included in the warning. Shem (talk) 10:17, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
- Oh - I forgot to say - if you want help improving the article, just ask at my talk page. Shem (talk) 10:20, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for getting back to me. I'll put the {{hangon}} tag on for you now, which should stop the article getting deleted. I'll also have a quick go at the article to "wikify" it a bit. What I recommend you do is have a look at some other articles on bands, and try to adopt a similiar style. Try having a look at Category:1990s music groups for some examples. Shem (talk) 10:31, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
- One thing you need to know - I have no knowledge of this subject whatsoever, so if I introduce any errors of fact, it's not deliberate. Shem (talk) 10:35, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
I've done some significant rework, which you will notice immediately. I suggest you:
- Check it for factual errors
- Use the headers (eg ==title== to improve the structure)
- Go back to the quotes I've removed and use them to write prose - it's not really acceptable to paste long quotes in when you could just write "Drowningman were difficult to classify, crossing genre boundaries between this, that and the other" and then referencing the original quote.
I hope all this helps. I have to go now, but I'll be back.

Questions
[edit]- In the line "Still it was well received earning a 10/10 in respected extreme music Magazine and found the way into many publications top ten lists for 2001", What is "extreme music Magazine" - is the name of the magazine Extreme Music?
- How do you know that Simon Brody wrote the Bio at Revelation Records website? It isn't attributed.
- What is the "Bro-Down" trek? This is an encyclopaedia - please explain jargon.
- You state that "In early October Drowningman re-inducted former members guitarist Frank Smecker and drummer Dave Joyal, both having prior involvement during the Still Loves You EP." What year was this?
I would suggest that the quotations are quite unnecessary, and that the essence should be distilled into prose, with the quotation being cited. The intro needs more - establish what the band were all about without going into detail - summarise the rest of the article, briefly. Do you have any photos that you hold the copyright for (ie you took)? If not, can you get a photo that the copyright holder is willing to upload to Wikipedia? Talk to me before you upload any pictures - it's a minefield for the uninitiated.
The article looks pretty fair now, and I expect the csd tag to be removed. I'll keep an eye on this, and if you need any help, just ask at my talk page. Good luck. Shem (talk) 14:27, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Conflict of Interest
[edit]Dear Ohnonono123, I note from your comments at User_talk:2over0#drowningman_article that you used to be in the band. This means that you need to read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. I think this article is neutral enough to be retained, but we'll need to work to get rid of the COI tag. Firstly, which band member are you? You need to declare that interest on your user page and on the article talk page. Yours, Shem (talk) 16:58, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
Talkback
[edit]You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.
Please have a look at my talk page and answer a couple of the latest questions there. Yours, Shem (talk) 13:51, 3 December 2009 (UTC)
- Simon - more at my talk page. While I remember, please sign your comments on talk pages by typing ~~~~ at the end of your comment. Don't do it on articles, though. If you don't, a 'bot will probably do it for you, but you'll get reminders pasted here. Shem (talk) 09:04, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
