User talk:Oak Point Partners
Welcome
[edit]Hello, Oak Point Partners, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.
I notice that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been reverted for this very reason.
To reduce the chances of deletion, you might like to draft your article before submission, then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. To start creating a draft article, just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit that page as you would any other. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.
The one firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. It is also worth noting that Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which specifically link them to one company or corporation. If your username does have such a name, it would be advisable for you to request a change of username.
If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! You can also just type {{helpme}}
on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. [edit]Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Before saving your changes to an article, please provide an edit summary for your edits. Doing so helps everyone understand the intention of your edit (and prevents legitimate edits from being mistaken for vandalism). It is also helpful to users reading the edit history of the page. Thank you.
Welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. However, I noticed that your username (Oak Point Partners) may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because Promotional username are used to promote a group, company, product or website on Wikipedia, per Wikipedia's UserName policy.. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username, or you may simply create a new account and use that for editing. You also should not be adding content for which you have a clear Conflict of Interest The edits in question are: [1], [2] JoeSperrazza (talk) 01:02, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?
Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.
- Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?
Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.
- What can I do now?
You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:
- Add the text
{{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}}
on your user talk page. - Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
- Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
- Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
- Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.

Request reason:
I misunderstood the guidelines concerning usernames and would like to propose ELPOPP as a new username. Alternatively, I would welcome further guidance on selecting an acceptable username.
With respect to the proposed content, I sincerely did not intend to post information for promotional purposes. The information was intended to add to the history and timeline of the companies, which were the subject of the Wikipedia pages. The proposed addition was a statement that the assets of the companies were later sold, which statements were supported by a citation to an independent and verifiable source (a specific US Bankruptcy Court order). The proposed content and support did not promote my business in any manner. I believe that the information is helpful to Wikipedia users, whether it is added by me or someone else. Incidentally, I made the posts at the suggestion of third parties who thought the current pages did not provide a complete record.
I would like to correct the problem and have the ability to add allowable content. I regularly utilize Wikipedia as a source of information and believe that I can add useful information that complies with Wikipedia guidelines. Your assistance in getting me to the right place is most appreciated. If unblocked, I would be happy to have future edits pre-approved and/or to discuss with a Wikipedia editor/administrator the best way to have this and other information included in a neutral manner.
Your time and consideration are appreciated. Please note this came from Unblock-en-l mail list -- DQ (t) (e) 08:01, 16 September 2011 (UTC)Decline reason:
- A couple of quick questions. Have you read the conflict of interest and related policies? Secondly, if the "OPP" of the new username portion stands for "Oak Point Partners", then it's still in clear violation of the username policy. Usernames may not clearly represent an organization, and they must also clearly be used by/represent only one person. Hopefully this helps - you can edit the above to insert a more appropriate username. (talk→ BWilkins ←track) 09:43, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
- Not only is there no requirement that usernames should reflect users' interests, but there is a very firm mandate that they should not. Please bear this in mind with your next username selection.--Anthony Bradbury"talk" 20:52, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for the quick response. I would propose "E1269" as a new username. As suggested, I have edited my original request above to include this proposed username. Thank you for all of help. Oak Point Partners (talk) 15:12, 19 September 2011 (UTC)
