Red Links Barnstar
[edit]Hello, remember when I asked in a talk page if there was a Red Links Barnstar? Introduced the whole idea and concept? Out of all my tireless work in fixing red links, I asked for a Barnstar to be made. Up to now, no one has given me one. But no, that's not the real problem. The Barnstar will come someday... The real problem is that I introduced the Barnstar, and, in the Barnstar's credits (check the WP: Barnstar page), you are credited for it. I just want to know what is the reason for this, as all the other new barnstars have an concept by: __________ introduced by: ___________ (or something similar), yet the Red Links Barnstar only has the Introduced by: Neptune5000 credit. I came up with the idea for the Barnstar, and deserve to be credited. So, from you I need two things: 1.- Please credit me as the person who came up with the original idea. 2.- Explain to me why I was not credited for the barnstar. I don't mind if it was a mistake, just explain it and fix it. Thanks in advance, DogcowsaysmoofTalkGuestbookBarnstar GallerySandbox 01:02, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
Edit: What is more, now I see you have even received another barnstar for creating the red links barnstar! This is really getting on my nerves! I beleive that any editor should be credited for his work, no matter how small, and I am sure that I should be credited for the barnstar alongside you. Thank you, DogcowsaysmoofTalkGuestbookBarnstar GallerySandbox 01:06, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
- I have credited you as the person who proposed the idea of the barnstar. Neptune5000 (talk) 01:51, 13 November 2008 (UTC)
Thank you very much! That was very kind of you. DogcowsaysmoofTalkGuestbookBarnstar GallerySandbox 02:11, 14 November 2008 (UTC)

Nation vs Nationality
[edit]Greetings,
I prefer to say "from Japan" rather than "Japanese" because of the ethnic use of the word. Someone could be born in Japan, come to Peru, live there most of their life, become president, and still be said to be "Japanese" (Alberto Fujimori). Not a major issue though.Ryoung122 07:35, 22 September 2008 (UTC)
Changes to footnotes
[edit]Greetings, I suggest slowing down in your editing of the oldest people articles and consider first why an article was constructed a certain way, and why your change might or might not be better. For example, in the recent footnoting of the "oldest person by year" article, the main point of the footnote is the date of the last person to die, not their age. Their age is only a secondary point, as it was not the record.Ryoung122 07:45, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Please don't label any edit you disagree with as "vandalism". This is NOT vandalism:

Please respond
[edit]Greetings, your removal of a comma from the Christian Mortensen article, while minor, is incorrect. Please slow down on your edits and consider whether you are making things better or worse. Also, I do wonder why you have not responded to any comments I have made. Part of making Wikipedia a successful place is communication.
Ryoung122 10:11, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- OK. I'll start slowing down on my edits then. Neptune5000 (talk) 18:00, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
Surname rationale
[edit]Greetings,
I don't see anything wrong with using first names after the first reference to a person in an article. Ryoung122 11:32, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- I don't either, but I prefer last names. Neptune5000 (talk) 19:15, 2 October 2008 (UTC)
- I don't, in many cases, because many people who lived 110+ years have been married several times. Also, in cases like Susie Gibson, the last name sounds like a man's first name. In that case, Susie herself preferred to go by "Miss Susie." Bettie Wilson was called "Mama Bettie" or "Miss Bettie" (it's a Southern thing).Ryoung122 08:46, 25 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Greetings,
While a biography source cannot be found for this article, from French Wikipedia he was the "doyen" of France:

Note also he is on this list here:
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doyen_des_Fran%C3%A7ais
http://www.grg.org/Adams/L/France.HTM
Although we cannot demonstrate that this person is individually notable, a list of the oldest men in France would be a possibility...although he was less than 110 so not a "supercentenarian."

Comment. The word "deprecated" in these Wiki policies refers to the need to link dates for computer-based reasons:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deprecated
There are other reasons to link dates, such as establishing historical context. Linking dates for year of birth and death, or years when a politician takes office, makes a lot of sense.Ryoung122 03:50, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed. Linking dates will help people learn about history. Anyway, it seems that the date de-linking process is not nearly done. Neptune5000 (talk) 19:29, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

The article Nyleptha Roberts has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Trivia, Fails WP:GNG, practically no reliable sources, WP:NOT
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. David in DC (talk) 16:43, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
Incorrect Arguments in AFD discussions
[edit]Greetings,
I recently noticed that you "voted" to delete the Louisa Thiers article, but your reason given is not correct:
Delete No reliable sources to establish notability, fails WP:GNG. Neptune5000 (talk) 01:59, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
There are, in fact, reliable sources for this article, including university sources.

More Incorrect Reading of Policies and Other Issues
[edit]Greetings,
Let's review what you said here regarding the Maud Farris-Luse article:
Delete The article's only reliable, secondary source is the 26-sentence CBS article, which is insufficient to establish notability. Inclusion in lists is fine. Neptune5000 (talk) 06:52, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
There are a few fallacies that need to be dealt with, and you really shouldn't be "voting" in AFD until you understand a few principles:
Notability is not established or disestablished by how well the article is written or sourced. If it is not well-sourced, it should be tagged as requiring more sources and the article creator should be notified to create more sources. If it is not well-written or too short, it can be tagged with "cleanup" or "stub"...but not deleted.
Also, an article can be well-written (like Nyleptha Roberts) and be not notable because the coverage didn't extend beyond local coverage...but coverage for Maud Farris-Luse was worldwide, therefore notability is established.
I'm not sure if JJBulten canvassed or recruited you to come vote, but you should consider that a lot of his actions are contrary to Wiki policies. Notability is established by OUTSIDE SOURCES, not Wiki editorial opinions. Since the media have chosen to grant significant coverage to "world's oldest person" titleholders, notability is established. And the "one event" argument fails, because there is always coverage of at least two events: gaining the title and dying. Turning 115 is a third event.Ryoung122 00:27, 9 December 2010 (UTC)
Sanborn
[edit]The family specifically said the grg's listing of 1896 is wrong, which means she indeed was born in 1895. if the list allows original research (such as putting in chiyoko asato even though she is in limbo, and adding unverified people like charlotte bauch and jan goossenaerts), then it obviously should have 1895 put in for sanborn's birthdate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.49.72.167 (talk) 08:09, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
The article Elsa Moberg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No sources. Unencyclopedic. Relied exclusively on two putative "references" that were not obviously about Elsa Moberg and that are raw data maintained by gerontology researchers and longevity hobbyists. Neither is a reliable source. What's left is a name, birthday, a guesstimate for date of death and unsourced statements about where the subject lived. I deleted unnecessary, and unencyclopedic info, and focus on, another "record-holder". The focus in many longevity bios, on "record-holding" by nationality, occupation, blood type or what-have-you is unencyclopedic. The WP:WALLEDGARDEN needs pruning.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. David in DC (talk) 23:33, 21 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
