Pihama quote on Rata page
@Nauseous Man: Hi Nauseous Man, Thank you again for your help with editing the Elizabeth Rata page. I am hoping you can help me with the quote from Pihama you mentioned.
I notice that the Wikipedia editing rules state:
"Contentious material about living persons (or, in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion."
"A primary source may be used on Wikipedia only to make straightforward, descriptive statements of facts that can be verified by any educated person with access to the primary source but without further, specialized knowledge."
The quote from Leonie Pihama in paragraph 4 on the Elizabeth Rata page comes from a press statement released by the International Research Institute for Māori and Indigenous Education (IRI) i.e. a primary source (I understand that Pihama was the director of IRI at the time of the press release). It included an innuendo which is not verified by any facts. This insinuation introduces a biased point of view. It presents neither the substance of Rata's "attack" nor any evidence to support the claim that the "attack" "highlights a disturbing trend of racism being disguised as public debate." Therefore the quote is not a criticism of Rata's work and it was published only by Pihama herself.
Additionally, since Elizabeth Rata is a professor at the University of Auckland, it is part of her job to participate in public debate. The insinuation contained in the quote from Pihama that Rata is peddling racism instead of legitimate public debate implies that the professor is not only not doing her job but is subverting the role of initiator of public debate for the purpose of spreading racism.
I am concerned that this quotation contravenes the rule on contentious material about living persons, the rule on neutral point of view, the rule on insinuation, and the rules on the use of primary and reliable sources.
Hoping you are able to assist in this matterPopinade (talk) 03:27, 11 February 2022 (UTC)

AfC notification: Draft:Doors vs Wheels has a new comment
- @Mako001: heh yes, I'm unsure if it will stand the test of time too. I am hoping that some mathematicians or statisticians publish on the topic. It was an enjoyable page to create nevertheless! Nauseous Man (talk) 08:55, 13 March 2022 (UTC)
- You may want to withdraw the submission, and wait and see if anything more is published? Particularly if anyone publishes some sort of scientific study on it. If it starts to draw interest from the academic community, then publish it. Otherwise, wait for a few months, and if it turns out to be even remotely as big a deal as "The Dress", then publish it. Internet phenomenons have a very low survival rate at AfD in general, usually because articles are created with an expectation of continued coverage that never materialises.
