A tag has been placed on Melissa Mermaid requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles – see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Melissa Mermaid has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. I removed the following link(s): http://www.youtube.com/MelissaMermaid#p/u/43/s2Sf59DrMAs, http://www.youtube.com/MelissaMermaid#p/u/38/zMJXQRRbO-8. If the external link you inserted or changed was to a media file (e.g. a sound or video file) on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy and therefore probably should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable media file.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 00:47, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Melissa Mermaid

[edit]

If you wish to use "*My silver lining: Melissa Mermaid's struggle for better health. Obesity Help Magazine, 2005 Issue 2, p. 42" as a reference use the "< ref >" (no spaces) and associate it with a text in the article. See WP:CITE. If you need help, let me know. ttonyb (talk) 02:29, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am trying to help you get this to stay. br tags are not used in Wikipedia. ttonyb (talk) 02:34, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I would remove the section Mermaidisms, it will be removed as not encyclopedic. Also I would concentrate on meeting the requirements for notability in order for it to stay.
You might want to concentrate on the Emmy's. Did you win an Emmy or did you just participate in the program? If you won the Emmy, you might be able to prove notability . ttonyb (talk) 02:39, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Three Emmys were "sourced" by Melissa "Mermaid" Martin in early 2003 (i.e., initial contact with the principal subjects, recognizing the stories as appropriate for air, referring the stories to reporters, and following-up as needed). Because "retirement" preceded submission for Emmy consideration, no one thought to include this sourcing as relevant enough to be listed to be included as part of the award winning participants. "Behind the Lens" was ultimately produced by the sister station in 2002 despite the idea having been pitched by MM to the news director shortly after 9/11/01. I have removed the speedy deletion templates for now to allow you some time for the improvement of this article. However, I must note that I believe this article will still eventually be deleted because there is a dearth of secondary reliable sources covering the subject. The articles you've included are primary sources. Finally, if you are the subject of the article, I would recommend that you do not edit it. If you are notable enough for inclusion on Wikipedia, someone will eventually create an article about you. Oore (talk) 03:53, 17 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Melissa Mermaid for deletion

[edit]

A discussion has begun about whether the article Melissa Mermaid, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Melissa Mermaid until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Oore (talk) 02:06, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
