[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, adding content without citing a reliable source, as you did to Ryan Seacrest, is not consistent with our policy of verifiability. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources, please take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Ling.Nut (talk—WP:3IAR) 09:43, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit]My apologies for not replying to your earlier query. I must have missed it. To answer your question, IMDB is not a reliable source (this link is to a Wikipedia page that gives details on what entails a reliable source) because it can be edited by anyone. (Ironically, Wikipedia itself is officially considered an unreliable source for Wikipedia articles for the same reason) And this fact stands despite the contrary fact that it is used in many cases to cite material. Sadly, the practice of citing non-reliable sources (or no sources) is one of the main problems that Wikipedia faces and is the source of probably 99% of its criticism. While all material on Wikipedia should be cited (even though much of it is not), it is very important that information relating to living people, especially potentially defamatory and/or controversial information (for example, this addition that you made), be reliably cited to reputable sources or Wikipedia can be sued for libel. In fact, the Wikimedia Foundation (the parent organization of Wikipedia) has been sued more than once for this very thing. Although all the cases were dismissed on the grounds that the Foundation is not the originator of the content on Wikipedia and it is capable of providing information that will allow the parties involved to find out who was the originator, it goes without saying that being sued is not a very pleasant experience. If the information is not very controversial, it is probably ok (though not desirable) to use a somewhat non-reliable source instead of no source, but that is only my opinion and others may disagree with this assessment. Again, my apologies for no responding sooner and I hope I've answered your question. Thingg⊕⊗ 02:33, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

RE:Help
[edit]I just got your message. I'm currently on vacation, and have little computer access for the next week. My advice is to take the incident to WP:ANI, so the administrators there can handle it. I don't have the time right now. I'm sorry. Good luck with dealing with the problem. Nikki♥311 01:25, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
