My RfA
Hi, Moondyne, and thanks for your participation in my RfA. I've withdrawn it, and will be writing up an "analysis" of it, which will soon be available at User:Giggy/RfA/Giggy when it's done. Please come around when you get the chance, and give me feedback on how I can improve. Thanks again, Giggy UCP 04:31, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Coords
If it's Australian:
- Key in place name and any limiters (if necessary) eg [1]
- Click on the desired result (usually SUB or LOCB) eg [2]
- Decimal numbers on right hand side are correct ones (the degree/minute ones for some reason are nearly always rounded down, so can be unreliable)
Hope this helps :) Orderinchaos 16:45, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
- My way with finding New Zealand coords involves a street directory, a magnifying glass, satellite mapping software and careful guesswork. Does that count as a secret? :P (I suppose the only thing missing is a magic piece of string, but I don't have one.) Orderinchaos 17:07, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Merger
Hey, can we merge the lists (per talk). It is quite ridiculous. Ive actually noticed that some states have schools in (capital city) and schools in (state). I feel this is duplication, can we just merge the 2 lists into WA, and provide a redirect frm Perth to the WA one? Twenty Years 08:28, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- I think i might have to withdraw that, its probarbly going to get up a few noses, and the length of the list will be a serios issue. The EDU dept page is ~20 pages, it would be a massive wiki file. Twenty Years 08:48, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
- An alternative is that i would create a list of Primary/Secondary schools (2 articles) to take length out of the equation. Twenty Years 08:50, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Artofcricketcd-rom.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Artofcricketcd-rom.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 01:05, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Glad to know someone else has the same arguements with bots that images in sandbox articles are not orphaned (Orphaned non-free image (Image:Artofcricketcd-rom.jpg)) - shame bots don't seem to listen. Dan arndt 08:42, 9 August 2007 (UTC)
Possible vandalism
Have had a look at Special:Contributions/74.100.165.41 particularly [4]. The user is correct in that Garden of the Arcane Delights is not an album but was released as a 12" record and later re-released as an EP - no vandalism there Dan arndt 02:17, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Whilst I don't have a particular strong view on whether Cyclic Defrost should be included on Template :Australianmusic I find it curious that one of the main supporters is Fortunegrey who's only contributions appear to be on the Cyclic Defrost article or providing links on other musical articles to Cyclic Defrost. Is it my suspicious nature but could he possible be a Cyclic Frost contributor and hence why is pushing it be included. As previously stated nobody I know in music in Western Australia or South Australia is familar with Cyclic Defrost - probably 'cause its circulation is only 5.000 copies and released three times a year. Dan arndt 08:42, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- That contributor is a SPA. I also don't have a particularly strong view regarding the inclusion of CD on the template, except that it is too large already. These maxi-templates seem to be everywhere and the people who keep enlarging them seem to be missing the point of what they're there for. ie. a navigation aid. Articles should link usefully, not spamfully. They uglify the prose. Another shocker is Template:Indigenous Australians. —Moondyne 09:30, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
- Pardon my ignorance but what's a SPA? Dan arndt 09:41, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

Opinions - please
Richard Roach Jewell, if you havent already noticed I've been expanding this one. I've covered upto the point where he replaces Austin. Thinking I'll focus his article on Colonial School(1852-54), Government House(1859-63) this got an interesting side story on how he altered James Manning's designs. The barracks I'll cover as they no longer exist and the arch article should stay focused on that. The town hall is another Jewell/Manning design compromise. The ones I'm not sure of are Roebuck Residency prefabricated design, Cloisters(as yet no article). Then other places like Perth Gaol, Deanery, Trinity Church, Wesley Church, Old Masonic lodge, Toodyay gaol, Roebourne and greenough police stations, Our Ladys college will get a passing mention. Two other major works original Perth train station(since demolished) and his last major work the Treasury buildings(too many differing designers) I need more information about before any thing other than a passing mention. - No Poole, the rest all worked on the east coast(inc tas and SA) Gnangarra 14:04, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

- Id agree with the redundancy. OK, here is my rationale for notability (aside from the multiple Reliables in ext links: The old-premiers seat, 11 candidates (one of the highest in WA ever - nedlands had eight), major battles with the in the factions (left, right, centre) of the ALP, lowest voter turnout in a by-election since the 30's. In terms of notability in Marrickville, the only thing that makes it notable is that it was the deputy-premiers seat! yet this has a premiers seat, with some other quite wierd occurances. Re: AU sports WikiProjects
My, that was a long time ago now :)
I'd say that, yes, too much water has passed under the bridge. Unless, of course, it was proposed to be brought back as a taskforce, but I still think that'd be a hard sell. Unfortunately, in my opinion, we've allowed too many projects to set up separately under WP:AUS, weakening the effectiveness of the hierarchy. The most recent examples of this being the Australia band projects (eg, WP:POWDERFINGER).--cj | talk 00:55, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

But like the rest of humankind, I find that the most efficient way to maintain a healthy self-image is to adjust my expectations to match my achievements, rather than the other way around. Thus it now matters not that you have a few more Wikipedia edits than me, so long as I remain 6000 edits ahead of you across all the other projects. FA stats
I've taken the liberty of updating your stats at Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by featured article nominations which was out of date for some reason. It does now get updated by a bot I see, so perhaps the original take-up was faulty. —Moondyne 02:47, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for that, but the title says nominations not authorship. Anyone can nominate an article for FA, even if they haven't contributed to the article themselves. I suspect that would be the case for many of the most highly ranked editors.
- Although I'm happy to claim my fair share of authorship of Yagan and B. brownii, Snottygobble nominated the former and Gnangarra nominated the latter, so you can see why the bots haven't credited me with those. This would probably explain your own absence from the list, despite having co-authorship in Yagan and Sydney Riot of 1879, nommed by Snottygobble and jguk respectively. Very impressed by the profile - all we need to do is uncover the early intriguing history of the canning mills railway stuff and it might start looking like a reasonable art - i think i might have access to similar profiles for the mundaring loop and the national park diversion - but not in the short term - anyways - thank you it looks great! Peer Review
I want to start a peer-review of Aquinas. Ive taken the article as far as I can, using the past peer reviews, and all three failed featured article candidates. Ive asked for help from external people, and got some. I think that the article needs a peer-review to help get it to A-Class. So I am requesting that you allow me to start a peer review. Education in Australia
I want to start a Wikiproject entitled "Education in Australia", which is basically going to be setup to help deal with the large amounts of cruft, and the general poor quality of articles relating to education in Australia. Ive asked another experienced editor of school articles in Aus, and got their full support. I must note that there is also a Wikiproject Education in Canada. I'll leave this open for you to consider. Twenty Years 12:26, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

Lists
Agreed... IMO either there should be a single list, or an article on Education in Western Australia giving a decent history and context linking to external lists (DET and AIS probably). What I was meaning re G6 was to reduce the two lists to one, as the two do not cross-match at the moment and deleting either of them leaves i's undotted and t's uncrossed. Ah, I see what happened - we both did the same edit one after the other - I didn't even notice at the time that you had edited. All good now :)--Melburnian 12:28, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I discovered the joys of Inkscape :) I originally created the railway maps in Paint Shop Pro, and the only vector format that can save is Windows Metafile. And Inkscape can't import that, so I ended up saving greyscale PNGs of each layer, and tracing the contours to import it to Inkscape. Unwieldy, yes. Hopefully, the vector outline of Perth will be useful to people to make other maps, though it's not perfect (nor expansive). - Mark 16:28, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
Serventy
Managed to pick up his memoirs unexpectedly for all of $6 at ECU Bookshop today. Should be an interesting read. Also managed to borrow "In Firm Hands", a pretty solid account of the 1977 state election, and a book about Geraldton and the 2001 election. Also now have photocopies of Australian Political Chronicles from 1969 to 1984, and a heap of journal articles (one quite amusing one from the Current Affairs Bulletin in 1965 titled "Perth", giving outsiders a look at our city as it was at that time - may be useful for fixing Perth...) Will be interesting to see what emerges out of all this reading. Orderinchaos 06:25, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

I was hoping that you could help me as one of the articles I have posted has recently had a copyright voilation notice posted on it and I cannot for the life of me work out how this article is a copyright violation as it doesn't resemble the reference cited 'All Music Guide' at all - the basic facts are the same but thats only becuase they are historical and not in dispute. If there was anythign that even faintly represented a copyright violation of that reference I would be happy to correct it but I honestly can't work it out. I was going to put in some references to the quotes used in the article but find myself unable and the article about to be deleted. Is there some process that I can question the posting of the copyright violation notice? Dan arndt 05:58, 18 September 2007 (UTC)
- Appreciate all of your (combined) assistance - I just wasn't certain of the 'formal' process as its the first time thats happened to me & didn't want to get myself into any strife. Dan arndt 06:28, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

CBC/AC = PSA?
Well, it says members, which implies that they are current, CBC is not, hasnt been since 37', so it doesnt warrant the template. It also isnt even mentioned in the template. Then there is the school of thought that says that in the eyes of the PSA, AC is CBC (as in how it took its membership, and the meeting minutes which ive quoted earlier). Take which one you like, it doesnt belong there. There was also growing criticism of the number of templates at the bottom of that particular page. Twenty Years 10:35, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
- In fact, it originally had the seven schools, i added CBC and it was eventually removed. Im just trying to follow the comments/improvements that are placed on the talk page. Twenty Years 10:50, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Could you please review this? It is of GA standard, I believe, but I cannot submit it to WP:GAC because of my unblock conditions. Auroranorth 14:43, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, hold up. I need to include education. Auroranorth 14:44, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
- I would like to request a peer review, then I would like to send the article to GA. I am also about to begin admin coaching, however I would not like to be nominated until December 2007/January 2008, because of the recent block. Any other tips you'd like to give? I have improved my edit summary usage: 100% for September. Auroranorth 09:30, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
Admin coaching
What do you think about that? Again, any other tips you'd like to give regarding my performance? Auroranorth 11:56, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, of course. About 12 months, I can see that this could be flexible. I am looking at late January 2008-March at the earliest. You are welcome to give me those tips (for adminship) later on, but what about right now? How do you think I should go about regaining my credability? Of course, if I were to have a really good rest-of-the-year, the late January date may not be impossible. Auroranorth 12:09, 23 September 2007 (UTC)
- And I am completing the admin coaching program, and will do so, but not accept nominations until next year. Auroranorth 12:09, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Can you look at User talk:Orderinchaos/IAP and tell me what you think of the infobox compared to Hamersley, Western Australia? Orderinchaos 10:25, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Kings Park
When you were there, what suburb were you in? I'm sure there was a discussion about it somewhere, Fraser Ave is given as West Perth in the phone book. "Geographically challenged" 13:23, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

- Since 1999, Kings Park has been administered by the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority, who also administer Bold Park, and does not come under any Local Government authority its there in the history section. Gnangarra 13:30, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

- Oh!–I missed your reply. I'm asking cos someone is unstubbing WP, I wondering if there is an angle in KP? Cygnis insignis 13:38, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
- In order for an area to be within a locality, it has to meet two conditions - a local authority (i.e. a LGA) has to be responsible for it (this is also a precondition for it being within another locality), and secondly, that LGA has to apply for a name for the area within certain specified boundaries which is then approved by the relevant Committee or Department (nowadays, the Geographic Names Committee). From what I can determine Kings Park has a special status in this regard - it is the only mainland part of Western Australia not to be covered by the jurisdiction of any LGA. However lands at the edges (Mount Street, West Perth, Mounts Bay Road, Perth, and Park Avenue, Crawley) are within other suburbs, and businesses within the Park are addressable by post as Kings Park WA 6005. Strangely the 2006 census regards it as being part of Perth (State Suburb), but this is verifiably false from other reliable sources - a reference I found to the boundaries of Perth, while hard to follow ("to a northern line in prolongation of the western boundary of Lot..."), agrees with the current Streetsmart, and my 1972 MSD and 1995 Streetsmart, both official government publications, drew "suburb" lines around Kings Park long before the application of the 1999 Act. Orderinchaos 17:54, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

- :) I suppose 6005 is just a flag of convenience. —Moondyne 00:12, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah its also most like the the person on the little red bike used to work from a shed behind the once existant government service building moving paper like items from there to the tin box in front of buildings in which the now BGPA person create more pieces of paper. Gnangarra 02:20, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
