Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Alexf(talk) 13:15, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

first-time user error on choice of username, chosen at random, and lack of knowledge of Wiki’s linking policy. I am an independent researcher and writer on the topic of account-based marketing - I am not trying to promote a company but there are some interesting developments from companies working in this area which I thought added value for readers. I also thought some of the references I used supported arguments made in the existing article. Other organisations have added to this post and made similar links. If unblocked I will focus more on editorial input and not ‘over link’ to external sources in the future.

Accept reason:

Allowing username change to requested username. Please put this request in at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. Also note that any future promotional edits will likely result in a very quick reinstatement of this block. Kuru (talk) 01:10, 3 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That username is fine. But ...

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. Daniel Case (talk) 20:52, 20 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Daniel, yes I understand those 3 principles, I have read all the other related policies too. Momentumabm (talk) 16:00, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't mean to be facetious, but there's about 100 other related policies ... you've read them all? Saying you understand is part of the goal - you stated that "other organizations have ... made similar links", this confuses me. Org's cannot edit their own articles, so how would they have "made similar links"? discussing the edits of others is usually not helpful, especially if those other edits are also procedurally incompatible with Wikipedia. I'm very close to WP:AGF here, but we need to ensure you will not violate COI, not SPAM, and not promote ever again in the future prior to unblocking the panda ₯’ 11:21, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I see, sorry, I should have been more specific - I meant all the policies highlighted to me in the 'blocked account' message. My reference about other organisations was the links made to their external websites, but like you say perhaps this is irrelevant. I'm still trying to work my way around wiki as a freelance writer. Hopefully my skills will mean I contribute some useful content in the future. Thanks. Momentumabm (talk) 09:01, 27 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I just wondered if you'd got any further with your decision on this? thanksMomentumabm (talk) 11:45, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, DP is a bit busy in real life right now, and the list of unblock requests is also a bit crowded. Someone who can unblock (I can't) will look at this sometime soon. Origamite 14:09, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
