Edit summary
If you want to delete or archive comments on your talk page, that's fine. Just be sure to do an edit summary next time for us vandal patrollers. ;-) --I dream of horses If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. @ 02:22, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
- Well, Wikipedia's bots usually add the relevant edit summaries automatically when archiving, so I figured I'd let them do their job. Middayexpress (talk) 02:26, 30 April 2010 (UTC)
Somalia Presidents
- Regarding an edit in this template , Would you please explain how could Sharif Ahmed be the seventh president while there are five following presidents after Ali Mahdi Muhammad ?--Antime •(Talk) 01:53, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
- That's not particularly necessary since the template does not even indicate that he was the seventh president. Middayexpress (talk) 19:49, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
- I believe it is necessary since "*" notes the acting president in this case I think both (Abdullahi Yusef & Abdiqasim Salad Hassan) were acting presidents,
- Moreover if my assumption is valid similar edit has to be done in List of Presidents of Somalia since it indicates only 2 interim from the 11 presidents!!
- One last thing, can you post a notice that you would reply on your own talk page .--Antime •(Talk) 23:39, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
- No, neither Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed nor Abdiqassim Salad Hassan were acting presidents. Only Sheikh Mukhtar Muhammad Husein and Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nuur "Madobe" were (refer to [1]). Somalia has had many persons claim the presidency since the civil war began, but only a few have actually been legally recognized as such. This is why terms like "seventh president" are meaningless after the collapse of the Siad Barre regime. There's also no need for me to contact you since the discussion is already here. (In return, I can help you translate your favorite article into the Chinese language.) --Jose77 (talk) 00:02, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Jose. Is this for an article on the Somali Wikipedia? Because if it is, you might want to contact User:Alshareeca who is one of the primary editors there. I focus primarily on English Wikipedia. It would also appear someone already started an article there. Best, Middayexpress (talk) 00:17, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
- Hi Mr Middayexpress, I had contacted User:Alshareeca but he declined to help me twice.
- I understand that a Somali translation already exists. However I wish to expand the article a little bit further. Could you help me translate the rest of the above article into the superb Somali language? please. Just try your best effort. --Jose77 (talk) 01:34, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
- Sorry to learn that Alshareeca turned you down. I would help if I could, but my Somali is unfortunately not all it could be. Another user you might want to try contacting is User:Maax. However, to be honest, I'm not really familiar with his edits, so I can't state for certain whether or not he'd be able and/or willing to help. Good luck in your search, and feel free to contact me again if ever you need assistance with anything else Somali-related. Best, Middayexpress (talk) 10:31, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
WP:NAMB
Per WP:NAMB, please stop adding {{otheruses}} for "ABC" to pages with unambiguous titles as it is against guidelines. Thanks, --Cybercobra (talk) 04:55, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks for the heads up. Middayexpress (talk) 21:16, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
Red Sea
Hi Midday. I see this is on your watchlist and I note your "oops" rvv. The IP added Somaliland whatnots but also made a few minor grammatical improvements which are best kept. I thought it only polite to let you know that I'll be restoring my last version. I'll post a comment on the talk-page regarding the inclusion of Somaliland, whose international status appears to be moot at best. Regards. Haploidavey (talk) 20:23, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
- I don't recommend that since Somalia itself doesn't not even face the Red Sea, nevermind its Somaliland region. Middayexpress (talk) 20:26, 19 June 2010 (UTC)
- That was fast work. You seem to know whereof you speak; so cheers and good luck. Haploidavey (talk) 20:30, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Orient
Please be aware that many articles are written in British English, where the verb is "orientate", not "orient" (which is only a noun). --Stemonitis (talk) 07:08, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
- You are continuing to make this change. It is only appropriate where the article is demonstrably written in American English. Any other such edits constitute unnececssary changes at best, and vandalism at worst. --Stemonitis (talk) 07:16, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
- Furthermore, giving edit summaries of "fmtting" for edits that comprise only spelling alternations is very misleading. --Stemonitis (talk) 07:17, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
- A spelling correction is formatting. And I'm only going by the spelling recommended here. Middayexpress (talk) 07:21, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
- OK, I've fixed that. I don't know who added "orientate" to that list, but it was a mistake. --Stemonitis (talk) 07:23, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

It seems that you and your opponent have both broken WP:3RR at WP:AN3#User:Middayexpress reported by User:StoneProphet (Result: ). You may be able to avoid sanctions if you will promise not to make any further controversial changes between now and August 1 at Somalia without *first* obtaining a consensus for your change on the article's talk page. EdJohnston (talk) 19:23, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
- Does your comment at WP:AN3 mean that you are declining this offer? If one person accepts and the other doesn't, it is logical to block the person who doesn't. (In the absence of any deal, blocking both would be justified, since both parties violated 3RR). EdJohnston (talk) 19:55, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
- No, it does not mean that. I started writing my response well before I posted it on the board or even read your reply there. I actually think your suggestion above is reasonable. The user never received consensus for his controversial changes much less sought it. As I pointed out on the board, I had to initiate discussion, and even then, to little effect. Middayexpress (talk) 20:05, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
- Sounds good. If you accept the deal, you are agreeing to an editing restriction on Somalia which lasts until August 1. Other party has the same thing. EdJohnston (talk) 20:23, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
- I have now closed the 3RR case as 'Restriction' now that I perceive both you and StoneProphet have accepted the temporary editing restriction at Somalia, which will last until August 1. EdJohnston (talk) 01:34, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Black CDN template
Well, not all Guyanese and Trinidadian people are black either. Blackjays1 (talk) 00:23, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, but at least as far as I know, there are no actual ethnic groups referred to as "Guyanese" or "Trinidadian". Those are just denonyms. "Somali", on the other hand, also doubles as the name of an actual ethnic group after which the country was named (sort of like the Finns in Finland), one which is heavily stratified according to occupation and degree of admixture with foreign (read: black) peoples; c.f. [2]. Middayexpress (talk) 00:33, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
- OK. Thanks for clearing that up. Blackjays1 (talk) 00:41, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Ayaan Hirsi Ali is also from Mogadishu. She was born there. This is not vandalism. Any famous person born in Mogadishu can be put in the "Notable Mogadishans" section.

Nor does the criteria have to be restricted to Somali citizens, and indeed to Somali people. Otherwise other famous (Somali) people born in Mogadishu but have since become citizens of other countries would also have been excluded. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.214.148.16 (talk) 20:36, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
- It makes no difference whether or not Ayaan was born in Mogadishu. She is not a Somali citizen but a Dutch citizen; that is the nationality she adopted. She is also not at all notable in a Somali context, but strictly in a Dutch context. Her being Somali likewise makes no difference, as that is just one of Somalia's many ethnic groups (populations which also include Europeans, among others). The fact is, the list of notable Mogadishans is strictly for actual citizens of Somalia that are from Mogadishu and notable in a Somali context. This, of course, excludes Ayaan, as it does many other people from Mogadishu, such as Alexander, Count of Schönburg-Glauchau (who also was born in Mogadishu but isn't a Somali citizen).
