ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:31, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Jdmaltz001 (03:09, 1 December 2024)

[edit]

Hello I previously edited under my old account jdmaltz, which i cannot access the email (I believe it was my old unversity email from grad school which doesn't exist any more and was transfered to an an alumni email) that it is linked to anymore. is there any way to access that account or link it to this one? --Jdmaltz001 (talk) 03:09, 1 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! That's really unfortunate, sorry to hear that. From my understanding, if you lose access the email attached to an account you have used to edit Wikipedia, it may not be possible to recover the account. As this requires advanced technical permissions I am not sure if you can login using your username/password or if you can request a password change to your alumni email. You may want to post a question at the WP:Help desk to see if there is any recourse.
In the meantime, or if there isn't a solution, you can link your old username in your current user page and specify that it's your account. Me, Myself & I (☮) (talk) 01:55, 2 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from AnjaAMis (08:46, 5 December 2024)

[edit]

Hi Wikipedia Team, I am excited to contribute and edit articles. Is there any thing I should take into consideration as I write my first article. It is an article about a radio station in Dusseldorf. They have great shows and I would like to write about it. Do you have any pointers? Thank you so much for your help. --AnjaAMis (talk) 08:46, 5 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi AnjaAMis! Welcome to Wikipedia I'm glad to hear you're looking forward to contributing. If you're just starting out, this page might be helpful for you to read: Help:Your first article. Some key things: Make sure that the article is notable, has a neutral tone (describe facts rather than opinions) and use reliable third-party sources to back up what you write. You can preview your edits to make sure there aren't any issues. Please feel free to leave another message if any specific technical questions come up (or on the WP: Teahouse). Happy editing!
