History of the Czech Republic
History of the Czech Republic makes no sense at all, if you start in year 600. History of Czechia is not perfect, but better. History of Bohemia, limits scope to 1 province of Czech Republic. Cautious 23:52, 31 May 2004 (UTC)

A copyright question
Hi,
You're a experienced user and you post frequently on the Wikipedia:Copyright problems page, so I have a question for you. Most of the text from the Joe Biden article is taken from here, which is in turn copied from here. Does this constitute a copyright violation, and if so what is the best way to deal with it?
Sincerely,
Acegikmo1 20:14, 2 Jun 2004 (UTC)

apologies
Sorry to give you so much work on a such a continual basis. I'm dreadfully unable to locate my own typos, as you can see. I try, however, to limit it to one and only one per article. :) -- Decumanus 02:42, 3 Jun 2004 (UTC)

A copyright question
Hi,
I also have a copyright question. It is related to images. You seem to know a bit about them so, I want to know if I can consider the following my intellectual propery: I got an image from Microsoft Encarta Atlas, copied it and pasted into Paint to edit it. I changed most if not all the rivers that appeared and also added a lot of urban areas (colour) which show a more accurate map. I also changed the colour of the roads, but kept the same colour scheme as Microsoft encarta. I did change the topography lines to some extent. etc... So can I upload this into Wikipedia? I assume it is more than ok, based on UK definition, which I was only told about, which is supposed to say that if I change 1 street in a city map (ie delete it), that is allready yours. I couldn't find the copyright for Encarta atlas in Microsoft.com so I wonder if you would know. I grately appreciate your help. Yours, Kurogawa 21:47, 3 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Adminship advice request
From what I've seen, you are very active at keeping WP free from garbage, and no one questions your actions. According to the posted guidelines, I don't think Orlando Web Design is a speedy delete candidate. However, I believe many admins would kill such a blatant advert anyway. So, my question is, in your opinion, can it go buh-bye speedy, or do I need to list it on VfD? Niteowlneils 17:37, 4 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks for your comments. For some time I had been leaning towards deleting obvious nonsense myself, and just tagging borderline cases, so, between those two things I tagged it speedy and added "blatant advert for non-notable company hogging overly broad title", and it did go away. I can understand arguments to not add just "blatant advert" to the speedy candidate list (I've converted at least one company that was put on VfD as an advert into a viable stub), but is seems like articles with a combination like that had should be candidates, as there's nothing that can be done for them to survive VfD, so why drag it out an extra 5 days. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong - can you help me out? Thanks for the help, Mark Richards 21:36, 4 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- Yes - thank you! What was it?
Also, I posted the message on your page about 20 minutes ago. Came back to look, and couldn't see it. Refreshed my browser cache, still nothing. Went to the history, there was my edit. I re-edited it, and there it was. Ever seen that before? I think it may have happend to me on VfD as well. Thanks for the help. Mark Richards 22:22, 4 Jun 2004 (UTC)

User:Mäximus Rex is pretending to be you and adding a Racist template to articles
I have blocked User:Mäximus Rex for 24 hours for vandalism. He has mirrored your user page and created a Template:Racist to add to articles. I thought it was you until I looked at his contributions. Be warned. You are going to have angry people coming to you if he tries more of this. - Tεxτurε 22:27, 8 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- I thought the contributions were odd -- especially so when I noticed that while the user pages proclaimed considerable activity, the history showed they were recently created. Very strange type of vandalism. Glad to know it was not you. older≠wiser 17:57, 9 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- I just wanted to let you know that on behalf, of the contibutors to Nzinga of Ndongo and Matamba, we know that Mäximus Rex is an imposter and that you did not vadalize the page. I have always found you to be an excellent contibutor, and though I do not believe we have had any converations, that I have apreciated your contributions to the articles that we have both worked on. I would have posted sooner but I was on a wikiholiday when the vandalism occured. Just wanted to let you know that you have my apprecation and support. Hopefully the name stealing jerk won't come back any time soon! :)

RFA cleanup mess
Wow, there's been a lot of ugly stuff going on on that page. I didn't realize it entirely... I kept trying to save my edit and it kept saying there was a conflict and then it was all garbled and so I reloaded it and tried to save it again and it wasn't until I had already clicked Save that I noticed the message about it being locked... so I wanted to apologize for just adding a vote while you were trying to clean things up. Erk--hmmm, now I see that your page is also locked except to sys admins. Guess there's an advantage to that... Is everything locked? (Rhetorical question.) Guess I'll go look... Deleted redirects
Geez, man, thanks a bunch for deleting all those districts redirects I spent several hours creating! I, of course, realize, that a broken redirect should be fixed, and this is exactly the reason I stopped creating more of them when I realized that I can't keep up with creating the content which they are supposed to redirect to. Still, I've been working on the ones you deleted (slowly, yes, but I was working on them), and now I have to create them a-new! That really really sucks, especially considering that they were listed here as the ones that will be taken care of eventually.

Chemics
Hi,
being a chemistry-interested type, have you ever come across the term Chemics before? I have never heard of it, and I can't find anything related on google. I suspect that this is a figment of somebody's imagination, or some buzzword used in one lab in the world or something. I've not had to deal with this kind of issue before, but I've tagged it as disputed accuracy, and now prostrate myself before the wise gods of the wiki who will know how to handle it :-) Iridium77 22:55, 26 Jun 2004 (UTC)

You blocked an anon for taking part in a flame war on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Jeffrey T. Nomura. I appreciate the sentiment (if I had my way, I'd block Cody as well *shrug*) but I feel I have to point out that this isn't really something we admins should be doing. I won't unblock - just saying how I feel.
Anyway, I edited the page to remove both the trolling, and the flames. Would this have been a better way to handle it? You the jury... Martin 00:39, 28 Jun 2004 (UTC)

American English on the Czech Republic Pages
You've replaced all the occurencies of the word refered with referred in the article on the Moravian-Silesian Region. I used the form refered as I'm more familiar with American English and in the whole article I stuck to it. One would need to replace many other expressions, which are more typical in American English, in this article (which I wrote) with their British counterparts to make the English of the article fully British. As I'm planning to extend the text as well as submit articles on other Czech regions (when the time allows) I would like to revert the text to the previous version. But because I'm rather new on Wikipedia, I don't want to do that without discussing it first. I know that it's recommended to use British English in articles on Europe but one of the general guidelines on Wikipedia also says "consider following the spelling style preferred by the first major contributor".
- Thanks. Before being clever next time I'll check anything first.Caroig

Hi Maximus
Why did you go through and delete all of our contributions to articles today, such as the guitar accessory?
- They were spam promoting the products of a small webcompany. Maximus Rex 04:08, 2 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Excuse me? If you believe our company to be unfit to be represented in fields where we have patented technology, you need to check your power trip at the door.
- Wikipedia is not a vehicle to promote your company's wares. Have a nice day. Maximus Rex 04:46, 2 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Looks like you need to re-read what Wikipedia is not, so I will paste the following: "But of course an article can report objectively on what advocates say, as long as an attempt is made to approach a neutral point of view." That's why an external link to our company among all the other external links to all the other companies is appropriate. If you want to delete product references, please annoy everyone equally. Thanks.
- Wikipedia is not "a vehicle for advertising and self-promotion" nor is it a "collections of external links". By your own admission you are trying to insert commercial links to your own company's products. Maximus Rex 13:28, 2 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Yes, external links to support valid material in the Wikipedia entry in the same "External Links" area as other such supporting material. Readers of this discussion may be interested in the following excerpt:
"In 2002, Gibson announced the first digital guitar, which performs analog-to-digital conversion internally. The resulting digital signal is delivered over a standard Ethernet cable, eliminating cable-induced line noise. The guitar also provides independent signal processing for each individual string.
"In 2003, Kaleidosound announced the Kaleidosound guitar effects controller, which performs sensory value to effect level value conversions. The result is that a user can adjust volume, stereo panning, distortion, and other effects simply by moving the guitar."
Maximus saw fit to delete the latter paragraph but not the former.
- Yet more promotion of your products. The Kaleidosound is yet another product you have a financial interest in promoting. A google search on 'kaleidosound' returns 93 hits, most of them unrelated to the guitar system. Maximus Rex 14:12, 2 Jul 2004 (UTC)

redirects
Hi Maximus,
I was looking for a frequent user on line at the moment and noticed you were. I am currently working on athletics (started with IAAF World Champs and written quite a few rtcls on athletes) and have come across a problem with the female athletes who get married or change their name for other reasons. example 1, Gail Devers who there is an article about medalled at the world champs in 1991 whilst called Gail Devers-Roberts for which there is no rtcl. not really a problem as I can use a pipe or better still create a redirect in case people with less knowledge of athletics try to find Devers-Roberts but
example 2, Tatyana Dorovskikh medalled at the 1991 worlds under this name and went onto win medals named Tatyana Samolenko. as there is no rtcl about her yet do I create a redirect from Dorovskikh to her more widely known name of Samolenko? I can quickly write a couple of lines to create a stub but wondered what the correct wiki-way should be for future use???
any advice greatfully received20:53, 7 Jul 2004 (UTC) forgot name User:Scraggy4
Thanks Maximus it was the bit about redirecting to non-existent pages that I wondered about. I suppose the best thing is to just create a stub rtcl under her wore widely know name and redirect the other to it until I get time to write a better rtcl. many thanks User:Scraggy4
Just curious
You've corrected single words of my edits on several separate occasions. That's all well and good, of course, but it's gotten me wondering how you came upon them. By looking for common mispellings with the search function, by actually going through my contributions list, plain randomly, or what? If it's the second one, I should start keeping a better eye on my English... --Kizor 22:35, 9 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Edit summary field
Hi! Just some advise from a co-wikipedian with common interests: it would be super-nice if everybody took a couple of seconds to fill in the summary field after editing articles (e.g. fixing typos -- in fact, especially then), so all the watchlist users didn't have to check the diff to find out what has changed. Saves us all a little annoyance and some time. No need for a doctoral thesis in the summary, just some short abbrevs will do, like "typo" etc. --Wernher 15:42, 10 Jul 2004 (UTC)

Mortarshellimpact Image
I saw your edit on the mortarshellimpact picture on the siege of Sarajevo page. I'm not very knowledgeable in the details of copyright, so I'm not sure what exactly I should write on the image page. However I'll tell you how/where I got it, so that maybe you could tell me what I should put? That'd be great. The picture of the mortarshellimpact, and a cuople of others come from http://www.brhphoto.com/photo/sarajevo/10. "Content, images and photos ©2004 Ben Hays, brhphoto, All Rights Reserved". I e-mailed Mr.Hays, and he said:
"Using the pictures from Sarajevo would be fine, and having the credit listed as "courtesy of Mr. Ben Hays, brhphoto.com" would be great.
I am familiar with the Wikipedia and I'm glad that I can help."
I've seen a couple of other "courtesy of" pictures on wikipedia. Would I just have to put the copyright info on there ("Content, images and photos ©2004 Ben Hays, brhphoto, All Rights Reserved") under the courtesy line? Asim Led 16:40, 28 Jul 2004 (UTC)

WHY
--135.214.66.240 21:29, 15 Sep 2004 (UTC)hey there i just wondering why you have to delete the articles i wrote. by no way are they nonsense, it is the beginning of an historical account of a group of family members and as far as myself being a member of that family has nothing to do with the fact that i am "promoting" myself which i am not. i don't think it is right for you to delete information pertaing to a very well known last name simply because it may not be well known in the americas, if i am correct this is an international effort is it not? please tell me waht i can do for example write it from a more neutral standpoint i will be adding mor on the background of the sir name and adding links to denmark and other scandinavian countries i am sure other olsen family members will be adding who live in other areas again what i can i do?
- Hi. No one is allowed to create articles about their own family history. They are considered vanity articles because of their relation to you. No one is discriminating against family names outside the U.S. No one's families (even mine) are allowed to have articles. Families must be notable and encyclopedic to be included. No one is biased against you or your family. Instead the same rules are being applied to everyone. - Tεxτurε 21:38, 15 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Are you sure that AL was developed by GE? I find this terribly hard to believe. I used both in the early 1990s, and while AL was far from perfect, Genie was --without doubt-- the worst system in the world. I was under the impression that the GUI was designed and written at Apple, and GE's only part in the story was the back-end systems and storage. Maury

Article Licensing
Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 1000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "{{DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual}}" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The exciting world of image tagging
Greetings! A while age you signed up to help tag images, so I thought I'd let you know what's been going on lately in the image-tagging world.
First off, things are moving slow, but at least they're moving in the right direction. (What I mean is, more images are tagged every month than the number of newly uploaded images without tags, so the net number of untagged images keep decreasing.) But judging from the progress on the lists at User:Yann/Untagged Images, most of the time it's just me tagging images. And it sure gets lonely out on the tagging prairie.
Second, I have basically rewritten the User:Yann/Untagged Images page. Hopefully that will make it easier for people to help, and will attract new recruits. What do you think of the new text and layout?
And third, there have been a bunch of new tags added in the last month. Check out Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the new tags and new organization, mostly done by Zondor.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. Happy holidays! – Quadell (talk) (help)[[]] 17:33, Dec 8, 2004 (UTC)
Unverified images
Hi! Thanks for uploading the following image:
I notice it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use {{gfdl}} if you release it under the GNU Free Documentation License, {{fairuse}} if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know at my talk page where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much. [[User:Poccil|Peter O. (Talk, automation script)]] 03:51, Dec 11, 2004 (UTC)
P.S. You can help tag other images at User:Yann/Untagged_Images. Thanks again.

Issues about school articles
In November 2003, there was a VfD debate over Sunset High School (Portland). The debate was archived under Talk:Sunset High School (Portland). What to do with the article is still being contested and has been recently re-nominated for VfD at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Sunset High School (Portland).
I am writing to you because you have participated in such debates before. There still does not exist a wikipedia policy (as far as i can tell) over what to do in regards to articles about specific U.S. public school. My hope is that a real consensus can come out of the debate, and a real policy can take shape. Take part if you are so willing. Kingturtle 02:39, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)
poll
Poll There is a poll in the talk page of Macedonian Slavs article here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Macedonian_Slavs#The_poll
Some people are lobbying for changing the article's name to Macedonian without any qualifier. As it seems, a number of these people come from the Macedonian/Macedonian Slav wikipedia project. It seemed only fair to attract the attention of people possibly from the other side of the story. I hope that this message is of interest to you, if not please accept my apologies.

If you ever come back, you'll probably want to fix your monobook.js script. I've put nowiki tags around the templates, as they were causing the script to appear in inappropriate categories.-gadfium 20:21, 20 September 2005 (UTC)
Phillips Academy
This is really unimportant (as in "over a year ago" unimportant, but in regards to your edit of the Phillips Academy article...seriously. There is a large modern art peice commemerating the union which consists of a metal section - seeming rather penis-like - entering a circle of hedges. here's a picture. Now, i'm not sure it was technically meant to signify that, and it is a bit of a stretch, but i DO know that it is generally refered to as "the penis statue" or "tha phallic statue." And like i said...not important in the least.jfg284 you were saying? 17:31, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
Sources for Hydrozincite
Hello, good work on Hydrozincite, and thanks for the contribution. However, you did not any references to the article. Keeping Wikipedia accurate and verifiable is very important, and as you might be aware there is currently a push to encourage editors to cite the sources they used when adding content. From what websites, books, or other places did you learn the information that you added to Hydrozincite? Would it be possible for you to mention them in the article? You can simply add links, or see WP:CITET if you wish to review some of the different citation methods. Thanks! Lupin|talk|popups 21:05, 4 December 2005 (UTC)

Unspecified source for Image:Röntgenwifehand.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Röntgenwifehand.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Speedy deletion nomination of Felician College
A tag has been placed on Felician College requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Suspension of admin privileges due to inactivity
Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative privileges of users who have been inactive for one year, meaning administrators who have made neither any edits nor any logged actions in over one year. As a result of this discussion, your administrative privileges have been removed pending your return. If you wish to have these privileges reinstated, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Non-free rationale for File:Return of the Rentals.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Return of the Rentals.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page.
