WikiCup 2022 July newsletter
The third round of the 2022 WikiCup has now come to an end. Each of the sixteen contestants who made it into the fourth round had at least 180 points, which is a lower figure than last year when 294 points were needed to progress to round 4. Our top scorers in round 3 were:
- BennyOnTheLoose, with 746 points, a tally built both on snooker and other sports topics, and on more general subjects.
- Bloom6132, with 683 points, garnered mostly from "In the news" items and related DYKs.
- Sammi Brie, with 527, from a variety of submissions related to radio and television stations.
Between them contestants achieved 5 featured articles, 4 featured lists, 51 good articles, 149 DYK entries, 68 ITN entries, and 109 good article reviews. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article nomination, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. I love Memphis
There is an article that needs disambiguation. I love Memphis is an event and cultural website. Long running, much longer that Richard has been a not famous rapper trying to use various music and cultural site webnames. It is complete internet clutter. People are looking for the event and music site not Richard. Whether I am looking for I love Memphis the even blog or Iheart radios Memphis music channel. Richard is internet hijacking and wasting peoples time. And the advertising money of legit concerns. Metal Recording Services (talk) 15:15, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

Recent changes
- In the Vector 2022 skin, the page title is now displayed above the tabs such as Discussion, Read, Edit, View history, or More. Learn more. [2]
- It is now possible to easily view most of the configuration settings that apply to just one wiki, and to compare settings between two wikis if those settings are different. For example: Japanese Wiktionary settings, or settings that are different between the Spanish and Esperanto Wikipedias. Local communities may want to discuss and propose changes to their local settings. Details about each of the named settings can be found by searching MediaWiki.org. [3]
- The Anti-Harassment Tools team recently deployed the IP Info Feature as a Beta Feature at all wikis. This feature allows abuse fighters to access information about IP addresses. Please check our update on how to find and use the tool. Please share your feedback using a link you will be given within the tool itself.
Changes later this week

New page reviewer granted
Hi Matthewrb. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:
- Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
- If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
- Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. Barkeep49 (talk) 14:58, 18 July 2022 (UTC)
Thank you
Hi, Matt - thank you for volunteering & congrats for getting the rights. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. I will admit that when I saw that you were a software engineer, my motives for endorsing you may have been a little selfish in that NPP needs reviewers like you who can help make suggestions to automate some of our most mundane tasks. We are currently working with WMF techs, who have been kind and generous, but are swamped with so many other tasks they can't possibly dedicate themselves to our needs only. Please proceed and get those 20+ reviews done so you will have a better idea of what we've been discussing here. Best of luck! Atsme 💬 📧 18:20, 18 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Atsme: Hello, and thank you for your endorsement! I am flattered!
- I have been following the AI discussion. While I am not very experienced yet, and I have already discovered some areas where automation is useful. For example, why does the "New Page Reviewer" right not have "suppressredirect"? I've already draftified an article and had to take an extra 15 seconds to R2 the existing redirect. Which is also a new article, so someone else may review it, wasting more time.
- I will definitely be participating in WT:NPP/R as I become more familiar with the system. ~ Matthewrb Talk to me · Changes I've made 19:04, 18 July 2022 (UTC)
- About suppressredirect - I think that was mentioned in prior discussions. Perhaps Novem L or DannyS (not their full user names) can elaborate. Happy editing! Atsme 💬 📧 19:34, 18 July 2022 (UTC)

Red Hat
Hi, First of all thank you so much for improving List of leaders of Red Hat. I wonder if you have seen how Matt Hicks (engineer) who is the current CEO of the company is a red link and wanted to ask if you can help me improve its draft to be notable enough to be created. Thank you again. Have a nice day! Comrade-yutyo (talk) 20:48, 18 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Comrade-yutyo Thank you for the ping! I will take a look at the draft and see what I can do. ~ Matthewrb Talk to me · Changes I've made 23:49, 18 July 2022 (UTC)

- @Usedtobecool Hello! Thank you for the feedback, I will definitely keep it in mind. Appears to be a moot point though, as the article was G5ed. ~ Matthewrb Talk to me · Changes I've made 16:38, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, the creator was blocked shortly afterwards, fortunate for us. Nepal recently had municipal elections. So, you should expect to find more of these articles though. Nepalese "cities" are not the kind of cities that we can assume notability for the mayors of. So, I would ask for GNG to be met for all of them. Balen Shah and Renu Dahal are the only notable notable mayors in Nepal, and they already have articles. Regards! Usedtobecool ☎️ 02:13, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
