- Emails count as Personal information under Wikipedia:Personal information. If you want people to be able to e-mail you, go to your Preferences page and add your email there. ~ Matthew Say hi! How I've helped 05:43, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
fine ill put my email in my preferences but i would of wanted it in my user talk page --WikiMembers10 (talk) 05:51, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you.
BTW, the link I replaced you email with directly points to it anyway, so it's still one click. ~ Matthew Say hi! How I've helped 05:53, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
and also i got a question how did you get the user name color green i would like to create my own.--WikiMembers10 (talk) 06:20, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
- This is the exact code:
{{DISPLAYTITLE:<span style="display:none;">User:</span><font color=#009900>Matthewrbowker</font>}}
The first tag, <span style="display:none;"> is telling Wikipedia not to display the User:preface. The second tag, <font color=#009900> is the actual tag that specifies the color. You can put as many of these as you want, as long as they conform to the HTML color rules. Here is a good list of colors that you can use
The tags with the slash before them are telling Wikipedia to end there. Remember for every tag, there must be an ending tag, otherwise the color will continue throughout the page.
Here are additional rules for using the tag.
I hope this made sense. If it doesn't, please don't hesitate to ask for clarification. ~ Matthew Say hi! How I've helped 23:20, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Matthew; I think you've made an error in undoing the changes detailed here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?diff=402273113 . It was clearly not vandalism as defined by Wikipedia, and I am confident that it was a constructive edit. Kindly take a close look at the changes and reconsider. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.202.139.65 (talk) 00:15, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
- I see now. You're right. I was going based on ClueBot's suggestion. Since this isn't vandalism, I recommend you report it here. Again, I'm sorry for any trouble. ~ Matthew Say hi! How I've helped 00:20, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi Matthew. I have removed the level-1 warning you placed on that talk page; I hope you don't mind. It is rather pointless for this already blocked editor, and a quick look at its history should tell you why. I have left a warning of my own. In general, when vandal fighting it is a good idea to check the history of the vandalized page and to have a quick look at the editor's contributions, before one places a generic warning template on the page, the level of which sometimes bears little relation to the actual offense. If you have any questions, please drop me a line. Thanks, and keep fighting the good fight, Drmies (talk) 21:34, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
- First of all, I don't mind at all. You did the right thing.
I'm using Igloo to fight vandalism, and apparently it didn't pick up on the blocked thing. I think that's a bug that needs to be reported ... I'll try to report it tonight.
Thank you for letting me know about you action. ~ Matthew Say hi! How I've helped 21:41, 15 December 2010 (UTC)- Sure thing! Drmies (talk) 21:52, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

- Sure, I'm glad to help. Thank you for asking.
I see some problems with your edits. They're very minor, but enough for the bots to sit up and take notice.
The first is that you are not using <ref></ref> tags properly. For information about how to do that, please see WP:REF.
Also, the reason the bots were reverting you is your addition of a myspace link. MySpace isn't a Reliable Sorce, because anyone can post anything there.
Finally, the addition of links into the References section directly isn't the best. You should probably cite them using <ref></ref> tags also.
I hope I helped. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask below. ~ Matthew Say hi! How I've helped 20:18, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

you just removed my post on the page about ellery eskelin. while i understand while you did it, i would appreciate it if you could put it back up for just a day. i left that message there because it is the only way i know to contact the person who created the page. Because it is a fictional page, there is no harm in leaving my edit up, and additionally, all of the links on this page lead to a site which installs a powerful rootkit virus. I am trying to deal with the man who created the site without bringing authorities into it. Your help would be much appreciated. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.10.74.139 (talk) 22:03, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
- While I understand your views on the subject, I cannot put the notice back up. This is a live article, and notices like that don't contribute very well to the encyclopedia.
That being said, have you tried putting a message on Talk:Ellery Eskelin? The talk page for any article is the place to discuss any additions or changes to the article. Any imput you have will be taken there, not on the actual article. ~ Matthew Say hi! How I've helped 22:09, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi Matthew. My name's Jai Paul. I understand you've reverted my recent edit to the page 'Jai Paul'. I'm trying to remove personal/incorrect information regarding myself and my family - I'm new to Wikipedia, I'd appreciate it if you could tell me how to go about this in the right way. Jai R. Paul (talk) 06:08, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
- I stumbled onto the Jai Paul article separately. I've pared down the personal information about Paul's family for two reasons. First, a lot of the information is detail about his family members, and there's no direct link between the sources (e.g., the LinkedIn page purported to be his father's) and Paul. Second, one piece of personal information was present in the article, so it needed to be removed. I realize that this leaves the section currently unsourced; however, none of the sources that were there were useful or reliable. —C.Fred (talk) 06:18, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
- (Edit Conflict) Hi! There were several reasons I removed your edit. All of them are relatively minor...
First and foremost, you removed sources. The software I'm using, Igloo automatically flags an edit if the edit involves removing sources. But, it seems that removal of sources for your edit was necessary (see above).
Second, you didn't provide and edit summary. Edit summaries help vandal fighters like me understand the intention of an edit. Not including one makes it more difficult to tell your intentions.
Finally, your username suggests a Conflict of Interest. Many COI situations involve a person trying to make his/her public image look better. But, this is clearly not the case here.
It seems User:C.Fred has removed the information. If you would like the data removed from the edit history as well, please contact a user with Oversight permissions. Be sure to mention that you don't want this information public. After all, it is still visible in the edit history.
I'm sorry for any inconvenience, and happy editing! ~ Matthew Say hi! How I've helped 06:26, 17 December 2010 (UTC)- Thanks for your help Matthew. i believe the page is up for 'speedy deletion' now which is fine by me. Jai R. Paul (talk) 08:05, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi Matthew, is this how I write on your talk page? Anyway, I was wondering how I put pictures on pages! Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hugh McClure (talk • contribs) 23:49, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
- Hi! Yes, this is the way you write on my talk page.
Adding images to articles is relatively easy. Here's a step by step process:
1. Upload the file to Wikipedia Commons. Generally, this is done by going to File:your_image_name_here in the search bar. If the image doesn't exist, it'll give you the option to upload it. Make sure you put File:, otherwise Wikipedia will think you're looking for an article.
2. To insert the image into the actual article, put [[File:your_image_name_here]] where you would like the image.
3. If the image needs specific placement or a different size, you want to put special tags into the text. Generally, all the parameters are added using a pipe character ( | ) followed by the parameter. So an image that you need to be 50 Pixels and have alternate text (for non-image browsers) of "foo" would be [[File:your_image_name_here |50px |alt=foo]]. A complete list of paramaters is found at WP:IMAGES.

IP 68.13.251.212
Hi Matthewrbowker. Thanks for your help in overseeing the edits by this IP. I just wanted to let you know that I don't think most admins would see this IP's edits as vandalism. The warning that I have used is the one for unsourced genre changes which is {{subst:uw-genre1}}. Now this one only goes up to level three then you use {{subst:uw-generic4}}. Hopefully they will start to discuss things on the talk pages for the articles in question. Thanks again for your help and have a great New Years Eve and happy editing in 2011. MarnetteD | Talk 21:30, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
- I only just realized that I may have caused offense with my post above. My apologies if I did. I just wanted to share my experience that most admins won't block this IP for vandalism since the IP isn't adding the word "poop" to the articles. They will block for tendentious editing which is the road that this IP is on for the moment. Yet once again, thanks for your help. MarnetteD | Talk 21:38, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
- No offence taken. I understand your comment and the reasoning behind it.
I've added an option to my Huggle install that allows me to use the proper template for Genre changes. From now on, that is the warning template I will use.
Thank you for explaining your thoughts. I will keep this in mind when I'm reviewing genre changes in the future. Thanks, ~ Matthewrbowker Say hi! 21:49, 31 December 2010 (UTC)- Thanks for your understanding. There is one other template that I have started using when edits to an article don't quite meet the vandalism threshold. It is {{subst:uw-error1}}. I don't know if it has always been available but it sure fits the bill when the edit is something other than cursing or repeating characters. Your user name reminds me of a lady named Judi Bowker who was in several films and TV programs that I enjoyed in the 70's and 80's. It's nice to have pleasant memories on New Year's Eve. Cheers.
