Information on a particular subdivision
My entry was rejected but I was going on the examples of ones that are similar that were accepted. I'm not trying to make this an advertisement but a general information about this community,. this is where I got my examples: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abacoa https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Country_Club_at_Mirasol Can you tell me what I did wrong if these are accepted? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Evergrene_Country_Club_Community Thanks Personalseo (talk) 18:04, 14 October 2014 (UTC)Tammy
- I certainly would not use either of those linked examples as a standard, both are very poorly sourced, use advertising language, etc. I've proposed that both of those be deleted since they appear to serve little purpose other than to advertise the communities.
- So far as yours, the issue is that you're not meeting the guideline WP:Notability (click here for 10-second version: WP:42). That is, you're not showing that anybody not tied to the club finds it worth writing about. If nobody else on the planet finds the place worth writing about other than those that live there or make money off it, why should our readers care? What's more, how could we expect any WP:Neutrality from such involved people?
- As it stands now, most of the article is stuff that only a customer would want to know, like As a resident in the Evergrene community, club membership is mandatory. Members are billed club dues and POA maintenance fees established by the annual operating budget. The Evergrene Master Association manages the entire community. However, the luxury condos, known as The Mansions East and Mansions West, are governed by specific condominium associations.. That does nothing to explain to a reader what makes this enclave distinctive, or worth reading about a century from now.
- You might have some argument if people have widely written about the green-ness of the complex. If for example it were a pioneer in greening/environmentalism, such that we could squint and imagine that in the year 2114 someone writing a book about green buildings might say "looking back to 2014, there was this place called Evergreen that's a great example of this concept..." That sort of thing.
- If it's written anything resembling an "About Us!" page, advert, etc., it can't publish. If however it has facts that are of enduring interest (stands out somehow for economics, environment, biz practices, unusual history, etc), then you can add those facts and cite them to Neutral info sources. Make sense? MatthewVanitas (talk) 23:49, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
Thank you Matthew, I do understand yes. My only question is why do the other communities in this area get away with similar entries? They are nothing special either. This community does seem to have the unique Audubon award and it's set on a preserve which none of the other communities do. Also, I have been in contact with the manager of the community getting information directly from her. I don't know how to cite this as a resource since it's first hand knowledge and not an online source.
I do understand the goal to provide something someone would want to research years from now, but again, I'm confused why similar communities get away with it? There are numerous similar subdivisions with less information than I provided, like Abacoa and others in the area. Are they providing something I am not? Thanks for your help.
Personalseo (talk) 14:19, 15 October 2014 (UTC)Tammy
- Both of the other articles are pretty bad; I proposed deletion of both, but the admin said that as "geographical locations" they might technically be inherently WP:Notable. I'm arguing the case with admins now that these should be held to the standards for businesses, not towns.
- In any case, the big answer to your question is WP:Other stuff exists; that is, just because there are sub-par articles somewhere on WP isn't a good reason to produce more sub-par articles. The point of AFC is to make articles as strong as possible before launching, since a huge proportion of first-time articles are deleted. You've asked reviewers for their opinions, we're providing them based on Wikipedia guidelines.
- Re your question: Also, I have been in contact with the manager of the community getting information directly from her. I don't know how to cite this as a resource since it's first hand knowledge and not an online source. . The answer there is WP:No original research. If it isn't clearly documented in a published product, it is not usable. Personal knowledge, unofficial interviews, etc are not admissible, otherwise just anyone could say "yeah I talked to the owner and he said X" and we'd have no way of verifying it other than every single curious reader having to phone them directly. So I would really avoid talking to the owners for content. I mean even if you're a paid PR writer, there's no point getting anything from them that's not published works since it's non-citeable. If they want to point out their press-clippings (not PR pieces or ads) to you that's one thing, but word-of-mouth is inadmissible.
- Hope this helps, and in general if you see blatant advertising on Wikipedia, feel free to remove advert language, add the "advert" warning at top, or propose it for deletion. Your vigilance in preventing other companies from spamming is appreciated. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:52, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
I understand. Thank you for the clarification. Personalseo (talk) 16:19, 15 October 2014 (UTC)Tammy
- No worries; Mirasol is still a mess, but I just did a 10-minute cleanup on Abacoa, and now it's generally decent. Take a look and note the difference, with citations to third-party experts, removing promotional fluff, etc. Note too the downside to a company putting up a WP article; unlike a corporate page, a company can't control a Wikipedia article, so if there is interesting bad news it will invariably end up in the article. For Abacoa, I noted that it had brisk home sales, but trouble filling in retails spaces, which I'd expect Abacoa's owners would rather not publicize, but tough tiddliwinks, it's a documented fact of objective interest, so I added it. Do my upgrades to Abacoa make a little clearer what I'm saying? If you can write something kinda like that, with proper footnotes, that would pass AFC no problem. MatthewVanitas (talk) 16:51, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
Ok Great. I will use that as my template. Yes, I'm not a company but I do write a lot about this community and when I search I never see it in WikiPedia so I thought I would make my own page. I don't care about bad PR, that's part of the general information. No rules as to Equal Housing Etc.. here. Lay it all out. Again, I really appreciate your help on this matter.
Personalseo (talk) 16:56, 15 October 2014 (UTC)Tammy
- Sounds good, Personalseo, glad I could help. If you're local to the area, some good amateur photos would really spruce the article up. Some real slice-of-life stuff, give a feel for the area. MatthewVanitas (talk) 17:07, 15 October 2014 (UTC)
Man's Gin wikipedia page
Hello Matthew- I resubmitted my article on the band Man's Gin, and I'm wondering if this draft will be published. My first draft didn't have any citations/references/external links, so I went through the article and added plenty of reliable 3rd party info. The article should be ready to go now. Please look it over and let me know if this is good enough to be published on wikipedia. Thanks! Mathew saheb, I thank you for accepting Panchashikha and Mashafi. I have just now recast Agni to make it readable and purposeful to what extent I do not know. Kindly oblige me with your opinion and let me know what else is still to be done.Aditya soni (talk) 11:06, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Aditya soni, you've done good work on sourcing your articles (an absolutely vital skill many neglect), so that makes them easy to approve. Regarding Agni, I would recommend the following:
- Note which sections lack sourcing, and apply proper footnotes. While English is preferable on en.wikipedia, if a given fact is only/better attested in works in other languages, feel free to cite those as well. Note that with any GoogleBooks source you can instantly turn the URL into a footnote using http://reftag.appspot.com
- For the lengthy list of names, consider using WP:Columns coding to get them to list in column to take up less space
- I would submit the use of the name for the rocket is Notable, but that the use of the name in videogames is not signficicant enough to be in the article, so I would remove the video-game information at bottom.
- Thank you for your diligence in working to improve India topics on Wikipedia! Have you yet introduced yourself at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject India? Participation in WikiProjects is entirely voluntary, but chatting with folks there may give you some chances for collaboration. Great work! MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:46, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
Draft Submission Rejected - Gallery Arcturus
Hi Matthew,
thank you for your feedback! I understand you mentioned that the Gallery Arcturus draft does not meet Wikipedia's rules for notability. I would like to point out three things that do meet Wikipedia's rules. The gallery owns several sculptures from the Inuit sculptor Floyd Kuptana whose works are held at the National Gallery of Canada (I will have to check on that but 98 percent sure I'm right about that). The gallery owns many works by author and artist E.J. Gold. Gold's works are extensively documented and his Wiki page is quite clear. Would it help if I asked both artists to add Gallery Arcturus to their Wiki pages? I live in the UK but have met them both. And finally the gallery received a short review from The Globe and Mail which is Canada's national newspaper and I have the website address which features this review. Please let me know if these three points are indeed notable. Thank you very much for your time Msheering21 (talk) 16:43, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

Matthew,
"Generally political candidates do not merit their own Wikipedia article." However, this is not just any run of the mill candidate. I have searched Wikipedia, and have discovered that Wikipedia has another candidate from that same Primary race in 2012 with her own Wikipedia Page. Gloria Romero Roses was just a one-time political candidate. Not very notable and as little activism as Mr. Sternad. Mr. Sternad is notable in both South Florida politics and has had both local and national press coverage. Mr. Sternad's crime has set precedent for how Federal authorities are now treating/handing electoral crimes in not only South Florida, which is rocked by scandal after scandal, but also nationwide. As of recent, Mr. Sternad's name alone is being coined by both political parties as being synonymous with the term "straw candidate" and being used when describing certain types of political maneuvers. Mazzei, Patricia (October 13, 2014). "Insults fly between Miami GOP congressional candidate and former Republican foe". The Miami Herald Political Blog. Retrieved October 17, 2014. Please re-review. I can hardly see how Mrs. Roses, a one time candidate in the same race without any real notability herself merits having her own Wikipedia page and Mr. Sternad does not.

Rejection of Self-Realization Riddle
Hi Matthew,
The riddle I had proposed has been rejected on the grounds that riddles are not published on Wikipedia.
But the riddle is not actually a riddle but a process to
begin self-realization in a person.
The more a person thinks about this riddle, the more self-realized he becomes.
More-over the riddle is not yet complete and I had yet to add another set of riddles to complete the self-realization process.
So is it possible to publish this material if I give it the title 'Self-Realization Process'?
Or you would you like to make the decision when I complete my work?
Regards,
Your Friend,
balram_wiki_user

- Hello Balram wiki user! What you are writing is fundamentally not an encyclopedia article. Your own musings on the topic do not an article make. I would encourage you to see out other publication venues which specialize in such materials. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:37, 16 October 2014 (UTC)
I respect and understand your views. An article of this nature perhaps belongs to a spiritual website. But the fact of the matter is that if one searches for words like 'Moksha', 'Mukti' and 'Enlightenment'..., the first result that shows up on the most popular search engine is Wikipedia. I am not an authority on Self-Realization and may sound a bit mad but I am a self-realized person. That's how I realized what we are made of and that's how I realized that the entire world is made of good people. Hence this article. Wikipedia has many articles on processes like the article on glass making process which defines each of the steps. If we publish this article on Wikipedia, the entire world can improve it by their own realization of the process. Please suggest. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Balram wiki user (talk • contribs) 09:53, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

There are plenty of places on the Internet to discuss Minecraft, but here we only discuss Minecraft issues that are significant enough to have been discussed by journalists or academics, like the social impact of the game, business model of the developers, etc. MatthewVanitas (talk) 18:04, 16 October 2014 (UTC)

Dear MatthewVanitas, I send to You a new form, but please to help me to edit the famous writer's page (Erno Polgar)! Regards, Gyorgyne Pruzsinszki) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Györgyné Pruzsinszki (talk • contribs) 15:11, 18 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Györgyné, you did good work greatly improving your formatting, and I cleaned it up a little further for you. The main issue right now is to work on WP:Sourcing
- Have you read WP:Notability (authors)? I strongly advise you do, as it explains the required level of sourcing to publish.
- You must show that other authorities (journalists, academics) have written about Polgar. Can you find news articles (in any language) discussing his career? Disussion of him in books about literature? We need to see that others have examined his career. Not simply that he has written books.
- While it is acceptable to just list references at the end, the article will be stronger with some footnotes; see WP:Referencing for beginners
- Other Wikipedia articles do not count as "Sources", so do not cite the Italian/German/Hungarian Wikipedias, we will just link to them at the end once this publishes. Note the other language versions are not well sourced, to the point they don't meet English Wikipedia standards. So don't necessarily use those as your models.
- Fundamentally, you must demonstrate that other people write about Polgar, and add those sources to the article for it to pass. You have a lot of facts in the article, but almost no evidence that any authority has recognized/documented those facts. Hope this helps! MatthewVanitas (talk) 20:04, 18 October 2014 (UTC)

Would the Arise (musician) page be accepted as an actor page?
would the imdb reference be accepted if the Arise (musician) page were an actor page and not a musician one? If I just tweak it and omit the (musician) part? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.111.86.178 (talk) 22:10, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hello, IMDB is not citeable in general since it is crowdsourced (see WP:IMDB), so like Wikipedia it cannot be used as a source at all.
- You really need to read WP:Notability (people) and WP:Sourcing since you seem not to be getting some of our core requirements. You have a ton of facts on this page, everything from how she was in kindergarten and all. Any fact that you cannot source must be removed. That is, if you cannot provide a news article, magazine article, etc. which states those facts, Wikipedia cannot accept it. The only things you can source to her own website are non-controversial details like where born, what school, etc.
- Sources come first, so don't bother writing down anything you can't source. I would suggest you go find any news articles, magazine articles, etc you can about Arise, and past the links at the bottom of the page, and then we can continue from there.
- Note also, don't make footnotes by typing "[1]", etc. Instead use the coding shown at WP:Referencing for beginners. Let me know if you have any issues; hope this helps! MatthewVanitas (talk) 22:54, 19 October 2014 (UTC)

review of new page on European School in Central Asia
Hi Matthew Thank you for your quick review and response. I have now edited the page and resubmitted taking account of your helpful comments, so I tried to removed details that only students/parents would want to know, I tried to rewrite or leave parts that show the individual significance of this school from the perspective of an outside observer. No doubt more editing is required and I welcome your feedback. David1000000 (talk) 05:13, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hello David1000000, we had an error there for a second where both you and I were trying to clean up the article at the same time. In any case, a few comments:
- Have you read the School Article Guidelines I linked at top? Definitely do so before proceeding if you haven't.
- Please take a quick glance at WP:Wikilinks (how to make those clickable blue links) since you don't appear to be using those. Do not link to outside websites for things not immediately pertinent to the ESCA; for example, do not link to an outside website about the "Cambridge curriculum" or whatnot. It's okay to wikilink to other Wikipedia articles, but the only links outside within the main body of the article should be WP:Footnotes to works that specifically discuss ESCA.
- At my last glance, you still have way too much stuff not of interest to general readers, like pricing schemes, phone numbers, how the board makes decisions, etc. As a broad hint, if there's a Fact X about the school, and no outside source such as a news article, book, etc has mentioned Fact X, that probably means our readers don't care about Fact X either.
- This page is not a place for ECSA to advertise itself. Period, full stop. Anything resembling advertising will cause the article to be Declined. What I suggest you do is find as many news articles, mentions in books, etc. that you can (in any language), and begin footnoting those in to support any facts about ECSA.
- Other than very basic non-controversial facts (founding date, location, etc), if you cannot source a given fact to an outside, objective source, that probably means you need to remove said fact, since evidently only people involved with the school have bothered to make note of said fact.
- Hello David1000000, we had an error there for a second where both you and I were trying to clean up the article at the same time. In any case, a few comments:
- Does all this make sense? We only care about things outsiders care about, this cannot just be a place for the school to talk about itself. MatthewVanitas (talk) 05:28, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
Hi Matthew. Thank you for this excellent advice. I will get back to working on the draft later today. I am sorry about the live page, which I uploaded before I got your feedback on the draft. I am new to this editing and still trying to make sense of how it works. I will stick to working on the draft and resubmit for your review after editing as you suggested. Thank you for the changes you have already made which are a great improvement on my previous version. David1000000 (talk) 06:39, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hey David1000000, no worries. All this takes getting used too. Just stick to Draftspace and take your time, read any suggested guidelines folks recommend. Just keep patient, take constructive criticism, and things should work out. That's no guarantee that every draft will publish, but by working the process you can ascertain viable topics, polish them up, etc. I just strongly caution you from any attempt to advertise the school (see WP:Conflict of interest), and focus on outside commentary on the school. If there is no outside commentary yet, then the school does not yet meet our benchmark WP:Notability, and is not yet ready for an article. In the short term, please gather up any serious media mention of this school, in any language, and place it in the References section for the moment. MatthewVanitas (talk) 06:44, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
Hi Matthew, I finally got time to make some changes. Thank you for giving a better structure to the whole article. I accepted most of your deletions but cut down the governance issues to a new section on governance. Although I still have not found an external reference for this, the governance of the school is a key notable issue since this is not a typical private school or part of a larger group. I see that as part of WikiProject Schools and WikiProject Kyrgyzstan we need some leeway on the references since this is not a part of the world covered widely elsewhere. I will create an infobox based a standard school template, so the editing is not yet complete. David1000000 David1000000 (talk) 10:54, 19 October 2014 (UTC)
Hi Matthew, I have added an infobox and made all the improvements I can at this stage. I think it now follows the Schools Article Guidelines. I await your feedback following review. David1000000 — Preceding undated comment added 10:36, 21 October 2014 (UTC)

You suggest merging the Property page with the already existing Coffee House Positano page because they shared the same geographic space. The coffee house lasted only 5 years and was open to the public. The Property was a private residence that lasted 30+ years. To live there one had to be approved by Jerry Ziegman the manager. Combining a publicly available Bohemian coffee house with a private artist residence because they the arts Community occupied the space once held by the coffee house does not make sense to me. What is gained by combining the two? Is this mean I must do it?

Hi, I am new to Wikipedia so I am finding my way. I used the facebook pages as a reference, so you could see Novare Alliance have several divisions, we also have twitter but I was trying not to over do the links and I have never made a post like this before so I am still trying to find my feet.
I am the last remaining founder of the Novare Alliance (the other founder left due to getting married and moving away) and I work closely with Nichole who runs the Club/Organisation and Steven the Secretary. As a Club/Organisation, we are not required to, and there is no governing body, which we would be or could be registered with. Because of this, I can only offer the website which we run and the facebook and twitter links and feeds.
If you could instruct me on how we go about resolving this, I would be grateful and appreciate any and all help you can and would offer. As I previously stated, I am new to wikipedia and I would welcome the opportunity to learn.

89.242.141.195 (talk) 02:08, 22 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Rob, first things first I strongly recommend you read our policy WP:Notability. The basic summary is:
Articles generally require significant coverage
in reliable sources
- That is, to have an article about a topic, you must demonstrate that totally uninvolved people, who are part of serious high-standard media (major news, peer-reviewed academic papers, etc), have found the issue worth writing about. If not, there absolutely cannot be an article about it on Wikipedia.
- The org's own page does not add to Notability, nor does Facebook, blogs, fansites, Tumblr, etc. It has to be a serious media source from a person/institution with a reputation to lose if they're wrong, who both verifies some basic facts about the subject, and also demonstrates that serious information experts find it a topic worth prioritizing. I strongly suggest you peruse our Notability policy, as meeting that is the absolite go/no-go criteria for having an article about the Novare Alliance. - Hello 174.111.86.178, do not remove the pink notices, we need them for reference. Just copy-paste your yellow-notice at the very top if you like, but it doesn't make a difference either way. Also, don't worry about the name for now (and anyway for musicians we usually use their stage name as the article title). MatthewVanitas (talk) 14:37, 22 October 2014 (UTC)

Article on Zar
Thanks Matthew;
I didn't sea the pink box at first. I had to click on different headings on top left to find it. I am new to this, and things take quite a bit of time to get used to. I will make the changes in the entry already there.

Dear Matthew, At present there is no book on softcombing. So I am unable to give any references. Moreover, the video clipping on softcombing in YouTube is not acceptable to you. That video clipping was broadcast by Indiavision (a satellite TV channel in Kerala, South India. I think Indiavision can give you details of the broadcast Would it suit you?

Hi yesterday I submitted a very short description of a kids clothing brand under the title 'Blu Pony Vintage' but it got rejected and I can not see the exact reason. I see that there are other similar efforts that are actually published e.g. "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lanidor". Obviously I am a rookie and I was wondering if I can get a short hint, editors look extremely busy and I don't want to waste anyone's precious time. If this article works I was thinking that I can contribute ~20 other kids clothing brands in wikipedia. Thanks.

Kae Alexander
Hello Matthew,
Thanks for the review of my first submission (above). I understand what you're saying about my reference not showing enough notoriety, but I'm unsure what I can do. Another cast member from the same show, Nikki_Runeckles has no references and I based my submission on that entry. Despite appearing in this series, a couple of films and currently a West End Play (Tim Price's Teh Internet Is A Serious Business) I can't actually find may references to her. Would I be better off re-submitting with no reference?
Thanks for your time.
Jonoh68 (talk) 20:21, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Jonoh68. The article Nikki Runeckles is not an example to follow, and I have flagged it for review for possible deletion since we have a clear policy that WP:IMDB does not constitute evidence of WP:Notability.
- So far as there not being enough documentation about Alexander: if nobody is writing about her, than we have nothing to write about. The whole point of WP:Notability is that we document things uninvolved observers have said about people. If nobody is commenting on her other than IMDB, credits for the show, and amateur pages such as blogs, Facebook, etc., then we have nothing to write about. Either a) she's just not famous enough yet b) she rightly should be noted by the media but they're asleep at the wheel, but that's not Wikipedia's fault, so if she's worth writing about hopefully some journalist will realize what everyone's missing and break the story.
- Do not submit it, as a draft or as a live article, without sourcing, as then it absolutely won't meet WP:Notability and will not be accepted. If you haven't read WP:Notability, take a glance, it's pretty clarifying. There's also a quick 10-second version at WP:42 that's worth a quick look-see. Hope this helps clarify the guidelines.

New page for Father Joseph Vaudan and Agriculture Institute in Valle d'Aosta, Italy
I recently spent a week in Valle d'Aosta, doing research for an article about wine to submit to "Wine and Spirits" magazine. I did nine first-person interviews with vintners there who all credit Vaudan, as does the director of the agricultural institute in Aosta. May I cite these people with their business contact information?
```` — Preceding unsigned comment added by Slshochat (talk • contribs) 23:02, 24 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Slshochat, nice work on the article! Good question, but the answer is that we do not accept WP:Original research. We can't cite things that are in your head, or in your notebook, or in the journal of someone living in an Italian town. We can only accept information that's been fact-checked and published, such as in a newspaper, peer-reviewed journal, etc. Now, if you happen to publish an article, wherein some authority figure signs off on the facts you've gathered, and they're now publicly documented, those you could quote, but you cannot cite unpublished or self-published work. If Wine and Spirits publishes your article, you can then cite it.
- One good thing you could do, if you're in contact with any folks in Aosta, is invite them to provide you any published resources on the topic. There are many good published things not yet on the internet, so if for example someone sends you a photocopy of a press clipping about Vaudan, with a clear publisher/date, you can cite that even though it's not digitally available. It's still a good source as long as it's published by a neutral authority and accessible to the public somewhere (i.e. not private papers or an archive. Hope this helps! How do I see your comments? IOs it a format issue? — Preceding unsigned comment added by QUSRAAFCAF (talk • contribs) 02:24, 25 October 2014 (UTC)
- Hello QUSRAAFCAF. My comments are at the top of your draft at User:QUSRAAFCAF/sandbox. Simply put, it isn't a draft yet. Please don't submit something that just says "I'll add stuff later". Only submit once you have an actual draft. That said, ensure you read WP:Notability and make sure your topic meets those requirements; if it does not it simply cannot have an article no matter how well you format it.
