Disambiguation link notification for September 25
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Joie Chen, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Afghanistan War (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Military history - conflicts not often covered - Konfrontasi
Hi Matthew, Thanks for taking time to edit my article on sailing development, Vietnam. Here is a short anecdote, just for interest, as i am not specialized in military history: At my father’s funeral it came out the Americans had put a lot of pressure on Britain to keep Singapore as a base for the Vietnam war. America being America, at that time said they did not like Communism. With Chinese communists in Indonesia, America did not want Indonesia to be part of the regional talks. Not surprisingly the Chinese communists in Indonesia were upset and wanted to retaliate. They picked on Sarawak as a newly formed state, and started the war of Konfrontasi. Britain wanted to keep the war quiet as they did not want to trigger another Vietnam War. Sarawak’s history had been relatively peaceful: A country given to a pirate or trader (James Brooke) by the Sultan of Brunei, if he could quell the fighting by a group of people the Iban. With Iban the strongest of approx. 20 different ethnic groups in Sarawak. (The woman who brought me up in my first few years was Iban, but I knew her as very calm and gentle.) Sarawak was passed down through the Brooke family. The grandchildren or great grandchildren did not want the country anymore in the 60s and wanted to move to New Zealand. They tried to give the country to Britain. This was at a time when Britain was trying to get rid of its colonies. My father had to help with independence. He was good with languages and spoke French, German, Cantonese and Iban. The first State Secretary who arrived to look after Sarawak was shot on arrival. My father was then asked to stand in as State Secretary, and he left the moment the country had settled down. It turns out a guest who arrived yesterday looked after the son of the man who was shot, and sent him through university and he now has 4 Master degrees. Best wishes, Julia MANTA Mui Ne (talk) 15:36, 25 September 2013 (UTC)MANTA Mui Ne

- Hello Darshak1, the fundamental issue that you positively must address is meeting the guideline WP:Notability; that is, demonstrating that Mehta has " significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." You must establish this, and since this is a WP:Biography of a living person you must have every single set of facts footnoted to a specific source. Basic facts like birthdate/place, etc you can source to Mehta's homepage or whatever, but every claim-to-fame, accomplishment, etc. must be cited to an independent source. As far as WP is concerned, if no published authority has commented on X fact about Mehta's career, it doesn't exist, no matter how many sales receipts, memos, personal letters you show us. Again, seriously, read WP:Notability and it will clarify things greatly.
- As a sidenote, do I guess right you're writing your own autobiography? If so, note that's not entirely forbidden, but generally considered a very bad idea. Please also read WP:Autobiography for a clear explanation of why you really don't want to do that. Hope this helps! MatthewVanitas (talk) 23:30, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

Move
Hi,
You moved my article on Ulrich Voigt to "Articles for Creation." I actually want that article to be part of Wikipedia (I know it wasn't before you moved it, but I think that had to do with the way I created it: when I created another article using the article wizard, it published it right away.) Can you move it to the "official" part of Wikipedia.
Thanks Ibnkalb (talk) 23:14, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
- You can move the article to the mainspace using the "Move" option in your menu at the top (to the left of your search box). That said, if your article isn't properly sourced and footnoted, it'll be deleted from the mainspace and you'd be back to drafting again anyway. So if you're not in a hurry going through AFC might be useful. There's a backlog now, but on Tuesday they're kicking off a mass contest to review articles and eliminate the backlog, so you'd probably be reviewed mid-next week. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:32, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
Actually, I don't think I can move it because my account is not four days old, but someone else moved it! Thanks for the advice anyway!

Declination of new article about Ignatz Mühlwenzel
Hi Matthew! Thanks for your recent review of my new article on Ignatz Mühlwenzel. I certainly agree that notability should be a driving consideration. However, Ignatz Mühlwenzel already has an article in the German version of Wikipedia: [2]
Logically it seems that either the German article should be deleted because Mühlwenzel is not notable, or my English article should be accepted because Mühlwenzel is notable.
PS Mühlwenzel's main claim to fame is that his Ph.D. students and their students, etc. comprise thousands of mathematicians throughout history, so his notability is his influence on mathematics as a teacher.

Hi Matthew,
Still trying to get to grips with the Wikipedia editing process. Thanks for your comments on Andrew Paterson. Had to save the page last week without adding references, but have managed a few hours today to rectify that. Hope it is enough for verification purposes.
I have a portrait of Paterson to still upload (when I've read how to), and would like to create separate Wiki entries for his film "," the actors Evelyn Duguid and Tom Snowie, the Cameron's Comforts Fund, interiors photographer Andreas von Einsiedel, and the Scottish Highlander Photo Archive. Let me know if you feel they are warranted.
On another note, I notice the name General Robert Bellew Adams (in the list of some of Paterson's famous sitters) is coming up red and saying there isn't a Wiki entry for him. There must be some glitch in the linking system, because he can be found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Bellew_Adams
Thanks again

Adrian (talk) 16:49, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
- Hello Adrian, I'll leave it for another editor, a different pair of eyes, to review your new draft. Bear in mind it's very common for even good articles to get several Declines and suggestions before publishing, so it's not necessarily any knock on your work. One thing I would mention, as you're sourcing: whenever applicable make sure you give the title of a given article in a paper/journal, such as the Glasgow Herald 1983, where you give date and link but your footnote doesn't tell us the title "Mairi Makes Screen History". Not earthshattering, but just a useful thing to have in for completeness.
- For uploading a portrait, if you have an image which is verifiably out of copyright in the UK (see list of criteria here) it can be uploaded directly to Wikimedia Commons, which is only for images that be fully freely used by the whole world without reservation. If the image you have is still in copyright, or cannot clearly be proven to be out of copyright, then you can upload one such image of the subject under WP:Fair use, but only after the article is published. Image uploading is a little frustrating for some folks, so if you get peeved at all, drop by WP:Teahouse and the volunteer mentor folks there can help advise you.
- So far as making an article about a specific film, it really depends on how much coverage the film has. Like people, it's not enough to just prove a film exists and give release/producer/etc. factoids, a film article must have some sense of what the impact of said film on the world is. In the case of Mairi, I typed the title into GoogleBooks, and there are a ton of books which discuss the film's significance, so you look to easily meet the standards of WP:Notability (film) if you use those. Again, to avoid the sourcing issue, I would strongly suggest that you assemble your sources before beginning, and only write things that you have sourced in front of you. That way you can easily footnote as you go along, as though you were learning of this issue through your sources with fresh eyes, just like your reader will.
- So far as the glitch, if some variant of Robert Bellew Adams is showing up as a redlink, that just means that nobody has given that variant of his name a WP:Redirect. What you can do is click the redlink, and then paste simply the code
#REDIRECT [[Robert Bellew Adams]]
at the top of the page, and know the variant name will be a blue link that automatically feeds into the main existing article.
- So far as the glitch, if some variant of Robert Bellew Adams is showing up as a redlink, that just means that nobody has given that variant of his name a WP:Redirect. What you can do is click the redlink, and then paste simply the code
- Does all the above make sense for you? MatthewVanitas (talk) 23:20, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
Hi Matthew,
Many thanks for your advice. Have added article titles to the referenced journals and sorted the Adams link problem.

Bicycle Alliance of Washington page
Matthew,
Thanks for review of the page. I have replaced the reference links that went to the statutory pages with links to news coverage from various sources showing the role of the Bicycle Alliance in the legislation.
I added a couple of subheadings and a brief description of the Safe Routes to School Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Education program. Any other edits are minor formatting changes, punctuation and the like. I'll hit Resubmit on the page.
I hope with these changes the page is acceptable. If not, let me know and I'll do further work on it. BarbChamberlain (talk) 23:09, 28 September 2013 (UTC)BarbChamberlain

- Hello Freeryde007. I did not "delete" anything. The reason you can't see past a certain point in your article is because you're using the "ref" footnote tagging incorrectly, so it's causing the article to go into a coding errror partway through. Before I fixed part of it, you could see even less of the article. If you check your coding and make sure that each footnote starts with "ref" and ends with "/ref" (that slash is vital) then you'll be able to see all the article and we can move forward. I have clearly described what your coding problem is in the pink box at the top of your draft. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:29, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
- Oh, I see what you mean about not being able to find it. The "Decline" notice thing messed up and gave you the wrong link. I've gone in and manually corrected that for you. Sorry about that, we're doing some tweaks on the automated Review system and it must've skipped a beat. Now the correct link is on your page, and my comments about fixing your footnotes are at the top of your draft. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:34, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi Matthew,
First, thank you for your review our the Binaytara Foundation wiki page. Your comments were very helpful. As you asked, I have added an addition 10 sources from reliable, 3rd parties. These include journals, news media, universities (University of Illinois), and major businesses (Cosco) that have interacted with the foundation. With these additions, I believe it meets the qualifications you asked I review. Can you please check? I would appreciate any other feedback you may have.
Thanks and have a great weekend.

My article on the Harvard Monthly
Thank you, Matthew, for your reply regarding my entry on THM... I didn't expect to get feedback so soon, and have planned to work on it each day. I don't know if I'm posting this correctly because I haven't tried this before and it's totally different from posting anywhere else.
I saw the need for something about the Monthly because I'm working on the biography of Thomas Parker Sanborn, whose short life was highlighted by establishing this literary magazine with others who went on to do important things. I intend to do a good job on the article because I owe it to this dead poet who has stirred me up so much.

- No worries, it's a good start but there's just so much sourcing on the issue that you might as well come strong. Note, if you find something you like on GoogleBooks, there's a tool http://reftag.appspot.com which can automatically turn a gBooks URL into a full footnote (though you have to manually enter the page# if it's in Snippet mode). That can save you some effort.

Again, thanks a lot. I am an older woman and while I can type and write in a semi-literate fashion and do research, the picky-part for me is all the code (even though it is easy-to-use code). Signing my name is something I spent an hour on and then gave up. I don't have access to a child to teach me anything... and everyone my age who is brave enough to have a computer only uses it for email and facebook. I've been working on Thomas Parker Sanborn since finding him in January and have information collected on the Monthly already-- including the purchase of the bound first two years, which I have read and picked-out all the "famous" people. I will see if signing this is as simple as typing Kathrynklos (talk) 02:32, 8 October 2013 (UTC) Well, I guess it wasn't. My name is Kathryn Klos. I will figure out how to do that correctly, but it may take me a while :).
- No worries, there's a row of little icons just above your editing window, which has (from left to right) two differents kinds of "A", then a little picture of a pen writing an "f", then a chain link, etc. If you click the little pen image, it will create a full, timestamped signature in your message. The button may be the easiest option. No worries about taking time to figure it out, there's no hurry here, so enjoy at your own pace. I'm glad to see you've got great ideas of ways to expand Wikipedia. Whenever you have trouble with coding or content, just bear in mind Wikipedia is full of help pages where other folks can give suggestions. WP:Teahouse is a good catch-all one, and from there they can refer you if you have detailed questions. MatthewVanitas (talk) 02:38, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks again. I don't easily ask for help (my generation of women was raised to stay quiet and not bother anyone, which is difficult to change)-- but nice to know help is there if needed. I find that I learn best by looking at how others have done things (created links and such) and then it's like Christmas when it actually works. When I actually got Thomas Parker Sanborn's picture on his Wikipedia entry I felt I'd resurrected him.--Kathrynklos (talk) 02:52, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
Hello again. I tend to be picky about "loose ends" so have worked pretty hard on this piece, but have learned much-- not only about writing/editing for Wikipedia but about my sweet inspirational dead poet Tom Sanborn's legacy. I do hope to discover more "famous writers" who wrote for/were on the staff of THM and place their names in blue in this article. I'm also conscious of breaking-up an article with pictures and other devices, so am playing with that. I would really like to find an image of the Monthly editors, from any era, but don't see one listed in a Harvard images list on-line. I'll contact Harvard and maybe they'll tell me where I can look when I'm in the Boston area next July.--Kathrynklos (talk) 19:17, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
- Observing others' example is indeed a great way to learn. This coding takes some getting used to, but it's surprisingly intuitive once you get accustomed to it. MatthewVanitas (talk) 03:55, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

July 15, 2006. DOES THIS ARTICLE SPECIFICALLY MENTION BRAR? IF NOT IT IS NOT A VALID CITATION
Newspapers never cover university admission or getting job of each and every individual across any country. All i can do to prove is that send the certificates/documents copy proving the same to your email. The article cited from tribune newspaper mentions that there were jobs under the mentioned conditions.

This do mean 'all' as voting was done and new president was chosen on that basis.
3. In 2010, on learning about Punjab Government's policy of regularizing only a few Scheduled Caste candidates and completely ignoring[neutrality is disputed] the rest (Cabinet Minister Animal Husbandry favored SC community and tried to fill 90% vacancies from only one community at name of SC backlog ) This is not against or provoking anybody as it was in newspapers. Government(Punjab) advertized the same. and infact they were indeed recruited even after being opposed. Cabinet minister favored his community. but protests started by doctors led to their recruitment too later. This can be cited with newspaper articles if you like.
4. saved millions of lives.[neutrality is disputed]
Yes there are indeed many many articles about their working, remote free medical camps, and above is their official record which will confirm how many treatments/surgeries are done by RVOs in time. but that won't be relevant to cite in "Dr Vipin Brar" but if the statement does seem relevant to you then it has been removed. Although the same can be seen on drvipin.com/about.html where scanned copies of newspaper articles have been uploaded and do mentioning his contribution (by name) in saving lives and professional impact.
5. {{cite news |title= Hindustan Times - Receiving Award of honor from Chief Minister of Punjab, S. - Hello, I'm waiting for a different editor with fresh eyes to come and check out the article, so you'll have to wait in line for a bit. Fortunately, WP:Wikipedia has no deadline. MatthewVanitas (talk) 17:41, 24 September 2013 (UTC)
Its been about a month that the article was created and about 20 days since declined by you and about a week for waiting for reviewing by another author (as you said), Please Approve the article as you've watched the article closely and shaped it to what it is today. I'd be very much thankful to you. Thank you. Coolvipcandy (talk) 05:52, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for October 8
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Ashraf Ssemwogerere, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Kabaka (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Article on Satjiv S Chahil
Hi Matthew, I have made all the changes per guidelines and I have resubmitted the article. Please could you have a look, and if it is ok, then please accept the article. Thanks! DevashishSarkar (talk) 16:33, 8 October 2013 (UTC)Devashish
A beer for you!
Poor Matthew. Half of the queries on the AFC Help Desk seem to be of the form "why was my submission declined" when you've clearly spelled it out to them in black and white beforehand. I'm writing "As was already clearly stated by MatthewVanitas..." too often, and I think you need some moral support! Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:22, 9 October 2013 (UTC) |
- Ah, it's nature of the beast. Though I have seriously considered advocating for the AFCHelper to add a ginormous: HERE IS WHY YOUR ARTICLE WAS DECLINED AND WHAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT banner to the top of the pink box. I've also semi-seriously debated getting a template made for AFCHD that says "Please make sure you've read the pink box and any comments. Then please tell us specifically what you would like clarified. A generic 'what's wrong with my article' will not get you a new answer."
- It's a common-enough question that I do wonder if there's some easier "human engineering" way to make sure folks read the Decline notices. And better yet, if there's some way to make Article Wizard really pound in the concept that sourcing is absolutely required. MatthewVanitas (talk) 14:47, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

- Hello ISBLHB 12! No worries, our guideline WP:42 gives a basic rundown of what's really key: as far as WP is concerned, facts only "exist" if they are verifiable. And verification has to come through some kind of neutral, objective, reliable authority. So if "a tree falls in the forest" and no arboreal journal mentions it, nor the local newspaper, no matter how true it is we can't put it on WP because it isn't a documented fact. And if I personally think the tree was the grandest in the county, I can't put that in because it's one anonymous person's opinion. But if the mayor puts out a press statement noting same, then we can put and cite to the local paper "Mayor Tomfoolery stated it was a tragedy, and that this tree was 'the grandest in the county' [footnote]". Hope that gives a little feel for the kind of objectivity we're looking for. MatthewVanitas (talk) 19:25, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
Reasons why Articles for creation/Bicycle Alliance of Washington Submission declined?
Hi there. I stumbled on the process for article creation and took as an example the above as I am a cyclist (in Auckland, NZ). Your message of 30 August 2013:
This submission has been declined for one or more of the following reasons:
- It is primarily designed to threaten, disparage or attack its subject.
- It is a biography of a living person that is unreferenced and entirely negative in tone.
- It is a page that is purely vandalistic in nature.
has me entirely mystified as the article seems not to tick any of those boxes then or now. Perhaps some mistake has been made? Can you please enlighten me?--DadaNeem (talk) 19:56, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hello DadaNeem, good catch! My mistake, my hand must've slipped while selection the reason. I've fixed the code so it now shows the proper reason for the decline, and I'll leave the originator an apology. MatthewVanitas (talk) 20:02, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
That was a prompt reply (& action)-thanks MatthewVanitas. Looking at Cycling_advocacy#North_America, Seattle Washington seems to Seattle Washington be an early bird on the Bicycle Ambassador program and as Bicycle Alliance of Washington is the leading advocacy group there it indicates notability. I will get others onboard to find the refs and see about resubmitting. Regards--DadaNeem (talk) 22:12, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for your comments and suggestions on accepting our entry. I have added some images today. I used the uploading wizard in Wikimedia, I was unsure what to select for the release rights. I selected 'I found it on the internet-I'm not sure', so I hope they don't get deleted. Rlduns (talk) 01:39, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
kabaddi data to be sorted
Hi Matthew Vanitas,
I am ready to help you to sort out the data for Kabaddi. I am currently working on few superstars. As soon as I complete the articles for them I will definately start to sort out the data for all world cups eventually which happened in the past few years. Following are the superstars I am currently focussing on - Jeeti Kooner, Manga Mithapuria. Please guide me and assist me as I am starting with articles after a long time.
Thanks & Regards, Amrik Singh
- Hello Amrik, sports articles are their own specialty, so I would strongly suggest you check in at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Sports and introduce your plan there. Just make sure you write your announcement very clear so that unfamiliar readers understand that kabaddi is a South Asian ballgame, and that you intend to write biographies of some key players and page on some key games/tournaments. I would also suggest you go to Talk:Kabaddi and announce the same, maybe write a few of the key contributors to that article (as shown on the "History" tab of the main article page) to see if they have suggestions. The key is to communicate with people who know sports articles well so you can work cooperatively. I do cover South Asia, but know very little about sports article writing, but the pages mentioned above should have good help. MatthewVanitas (talk) 19:43, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
Edit
HI Matthew,
Thanks for your input. I have made the changes to my article and resubmitted however, after removing the reference tags to general websites in the body of the article, I see they remain in the Reference list. Shall I go into my sandbox and remove those? I assumed they wold be removed when I removed them as a reference in the body of the article and at the time of saving the article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TrishaHoffman (talk • contribs) 20:32, 10 October 2013 (UTC)

Hi Matthew Just got declined on a new Wiki page. Its for an organisation that have volunteers for grieving children. I don't see it as advertising (as in The Bachelor) but more for general information for families, around Australia?? What can I delete to improve it? 06:47, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

89 Combat Flying School
Good day, Yesterday, I submitted an article [3] and it got rejected, you pointed out that the official website should not be used and I should find independent sources. The source I used was www.saairforce.co.za which you have mistaken for the official website, www.saairforce.co.za is 100% independent from the South African Air Force and is compiled by an independent author. The official South African Air Force websit is www.af.mil.za which I did not use at all. Can you recheck the article or will I have to Resubmit? Thanks
Nathan121212 (talk) 13:36, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hello Nathan121212, thanks for clarifying that! I've added a note saying as much to the top. That being the case, the issue shifts to being one of needing broader coverage. Can you find a few news articles, or mentions in books (perhaps check GoogleBooks for free pageviews of applicable stuff?) which either add new facts which you can footnote to those sources, or provide additional verification of facts you already have? The article is a great start, it's just to really clinch it as a solid article we want some cross-confirmation from a few different sources. Please add those in and hit "Resubmit". MatthewVanitas (talk) 14:20, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks MatthewVanitas it's my first article, will try and get some more info.

'Antisemitism in Spain' rating
On 27 September 2013, the article 'Antisemitism in Spain' was accepted by you and was rated as Start-Class. According to the WikiProject article quality grading scheme, 'Start-Class' should be given to article 'that is developing, but which is quite incomplete and, most notably, lacks adequate reliable sources'. I must disagree with that statement regarding this article - It holds many reliable references from different respectful research institutions and researchers. I hereby apply for another evaluation of this article regarding its quality according the the WikiProject article quality grading scheme.
Respectfully yours, ScottyNolan (talk) 15:10, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hello ScottyNolan, it wasn't so much a value judgment on my part, as much as I wanted to leave WP:WikiProject Spain and/or WP:WikiProject Judaism room to figure out the rating for it. "Start" is kind of a default for "larger and better than a stub", whereas "C" and "B" have specific checklists that projects rate the article by. So no hit on your draft meant by it, but if you'd like a full review for rating, I'd ask at the Talk page of either/both of the above WikiProjects. In whatever event, ratings are mostly an internal WP custom to figure out where our strong/weak spots are, your article isn't going to be looked upon poorly for readers by it, it just means that someone working on Spain/Judaism project improvements might glance at your article at some point to see if it needs work or not, while if it's a C or B they'll be less concerned about it. Hi Matthew,
Hope you are having a nice day. I need your direction.
can't access my user identity of 'Freeryde007' as email for password reset is now non-existent (?). my original identity which was deleted, I have now been able to restore wikiRaese412. not clear if this was an orchestrated wiki plan or not, but I moved revised content you saw https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Freeryde007/sandbox to my original user identity.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:WikiRaese412/sandbox
I tell you this as I have edited per your input and made additional clean-up to the 'Freeryde007' sandbox article. I am not done, but ongoing. Just FYI.
Also, I could use your input on photos and videos into wiki commons, the one photo I uploaded https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Photo_of_Theodore_H._Schwartz_MD_neurosurgeon_New_York_Presbyterian_Weill_Cornell_Medical_College.jpg was deleted. Can you see why? How can I see why?
Thanks. Scott — Preceding unsigned comment added by WikiRaese412 (talk • contribs) 17:19, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
- Not sure what to tell you about the password reset issue; I suggest you inquire at WP:Teahouse for what to do about a lost account.
- Re: your photo, did you see the red explanation bar that says " (Copyright violation: If you are the copyright holder/author and/or have authorization to upload the file, email COM:OTRS" ? It was deleted because it appeared to be a copyrighted photo, and you provided no evidence that you are the copyright holder, or have the copyright holder's permission. We cannot use copyright photos at Wikimedia Commons. MatthewVanitas (talk) 17:28, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
- Regarding your drafts, it's getting confusing because you have drafts at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Theodore H. Schwartz and also at User:WikiRaese412/sandbox. I suggest you centralise all your drafting on Schwartz at the former AFC page, and delete any other drafts you have on him to avoid confusing reviewers. Having multiple drafts floating around is confusing and unnecessary, because you can always use the "History" tab of your draft page to go "back in time" if you need to see an earlier version. Copy vio in Aggregative games
Right after I posted a comment at AfC about the copyright violation in the lead, you deleted the comment, didn't address the copyvio and approved the article. I don't have much experience at AfC, but copyvios should be show stoppers in my opinion. --Mark viking (talk) 18:34, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
- There was no copyvio tag at the top of the article at the time I hit "Review", so I was not aware that the issue had been raised. MatthewVanitas (talk) 18:44, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
- I don't dispute that copyvios should be showstoppers, but if something is a copyvio one should just go ahead and mark it as such, rather than post a comment elsewhere. MatthewVanitas (talk) 18:45, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
- Sorry about putting the comment in the wrong place. I was answering a request for comments from domain experts at WT:MATH. I know about the subject, but not the AfC review process. I saw other comments between the AfC banner and the lead, so I put my comment there as well. Then you probably didn't see the other comment that the article should be named Aggregative game, per WP:SINGULAR, not Aggregative games. The article creator agreed, but none of us knew how to move an article while at AfC. I usually do tag copyvios, but as I indicated in my comment, I wasn't sure I had permission to do so at AfC. --Mark viking (talk) 19:53, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
Ah, makes sense then. But sure, copyvios can be tagged pretty much anywhere, including AFC. So definitely tag them if you catch them. MatthewVanitas (talk) 20:15, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
The Morris Quinlan Experience
Hello Matthew
Regarding my article 'The Morris Quinlan Experience' which you declined a couple of hours ago.
I believe The MQE do infact satisfy criterion No 12, namely : 'Has been a featured subject of a substantial broadcast segment across a national radio or TV network.'
Loose Ends - a programme on national radio network BBC Radio 4 in UK is a programme which still runs today, and back in 2001 MQE not only featured as a substantial segment of the show, indeed their bit was repeated as part of the show's Pick Of The Year the following December. That is seriously notable if you happen to be in the UK.
Not only that, 6 plays on what is considered to be the most prestigious Alternative Rock programme (Bob Harris) on the most listened to national radio network in the UK (ie BBC Radio 2) is more than very many 'household name' bands. I've modified the article to include 2 on-air quotes from Harris himself. Also, Bob Harris's playlists are archived online on his own site www.bobharris.org. Will citing references to the particular playlists in question help?
A review for the MQE's first album in The Times forms a further part of the MQE's claim to notability, but simply because that review can't be found online makes penalisation seem unjust
Furthermore, MQE musician/producer Dave Maughan notable album credits for his production/engineering work, specifically five Kathryn Williams albums, including one Mercury nominated, another a BBC Radio 2 Album Of The Week, and Maximo Park, another very notable UK band.
UK music technology magazine Sound On Sound made Dave Maughan the subject of a major article following the Kathryn Williams Mercury nomination, which also made references to MQE.
LeoTheDobermann (talk) 21:54, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
- Hello LeoTheDobermann, while that may well be the case, the issue at hand is that you have provided no WP:Sourcing as to these issues. Your next step is to find the most serious/credible news media, music biz journal, or academic coverage of the band that you can find, and WP:Footnote it to the stated facts in the article. Our basic point is that information is only as good as it is WP:Verifiable, and while stating MQE's claims-to-fame is a great start, you must also substantiate them to move forward. So sourcing their notable accomplishments, and also adding and citing any interesting observations about them made from information authorities in a position to have a reputable opinion. So even setting aside claims to fame, if there is a noted music academic who (fictional example) has a paragraph in his recent journal article about how their career path is similar to that of Bach and Lou Reed, you can add that opinion and cite it to that authority. If the Swansea Gazette reports that according to the Chief of Police every show in Wales that the band plays results in a dozen girls having fainting spells, then you would add that interesting fact and cited to the objective and neutral newspaper who observed and commented on this.
