Flattered
I must admit I'm flattered to receive the barnstar. I simply found his allegations to be so absurd I denied recognition '''tAD''' (talk) 16:57, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
- Other net Nazis have called me a "Wikipedia Jew" who writes with a "Marxist Jewish slant" this week. It's really putting me off my bagels. '''tAD''' (talk) 17:00, 18 March 2015 (UTC)
- I totally understand the feeling. I've been accused of so many random ugly things here in Wikipedia, which honestly makes it quite difficult for me to return and continue contributing my work here as if nothing has happened. Yet, my belief in Wikipedia's mission is stronger, and the number of good editors certainly exceeds the number of "bad apples." This is why I think it is important to honor good deeds, so that at least you know that the good editors appreciate your work. Don't give up! Keep in contact. I have nominated Romance (Luis Miguel album) for featured article and I was wondering if you could take a look and comment on the FAC. Thanks! Erick (talk) 22:59, 25 March 2015 (UTC)
Belgium NFT nomination for GA
Dear Marshal, today the time has come to nominate Belgium national football team for Good Article status. Apart from me, other users as Sygmoral, Euryalus and Pelotas also significantly contributed to it in last years. Also thanks to you - as you can see I used the Henshaw pages multiple times as a reference, especially for the early days of the national team. I think the article is GA-worthy, perhaps even FA, but of course first I need to see how others have their say on it.
I noticed you brought 3 articles to Featured status, for which the deepest respect. If you are willing to review the Belgium NFT article: be my guest! Other suggestions to improve the article are of course always welcome. Regards, Kareldorado (talk) 12:45, 8 April 2015 (UTC)

WikiCup 2015 May newsletter
The second round one has all wrapped up, and round three has now begun! Congratulations to the 34 contestants who have made it through, but well done and thank you to all contestants who took part in our second round. Leading the way overall was Cas Liber (submissions) in Group B with a total of 777 points for a variety of contributions including Good Articles on Corona Borealis and Microscopium - both of which received the maximum bonus.
Special credit must be given to a number of high importance articles improved during the second round.
- Coemgenus (submissions) was one of several users who worked on improving Ulysses S. Grant. Remember, you do not need to work on an article on your own - as long as each person has completed significant work on the article during 2015, multiple competitors can claim the same article.
- Cwmhiraeth (submissions) took Dragonfly to Good Article for a 3x bonus - and if that wasn't enough, they also took Damselfly there as well for a 2x bonus.
- LeftAire (submissions) worked up Alexander Hamilton to Good Article for the maximum bonus. Hamilton was one of the founding fathers of the United States and is a level 4 vital article.
The points varied across groups, with the lowest score required to gain automatic qualification was 68 in Group A - meanwhile the second place score in Group H was 404, which would have been high enough to win all but one of the other Groups! As well as the top two of each group automatically going through to the third round, a minimum score of 55 was required for a wildcard competitor to go through. We had a three-way tie at 55 points and all three have qualified for the next round, in the spirit of fairness. The third round ends on June 28, with the top two in each group progressing automatically while the remaining 16 highest scorers across all four groups go through as wildcards. Good luck to all competitors for the third round! Figureskatingfan (talk · contribs · email), Miyagawa (talk · contribs · email) and Sturmvogel 66 (talk · contribs · email) 16:36, 4 May 2015 (UTC)

I was looking at Peru national football team and I noticed there is another article just for Most capped and top goalscorers which usually in other articles included at the original article not separated like this. So should we move it to the Peru national football team's article ?also another article for the result since 2005 only.. any suggestions about this one also? thanks Adnan (talk) 01:17, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
A reminder
This is a reminder of something I said a little more than year ago on your Talk page: "I note that the topic ban may be appealed to the Arbitration Committee after one year, and I hope you will take advantage of that possibility." I don't recall just what has happened since then, and I don't know whether an appeal would be worth trying at this point, but I thought it would be nice to point out that a full year has now passed by. —BarrelProof (talk) 18:36, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hi @BarrelProof:. Thank you for the message. I do plan to appeal the sanction soon. I hope that the Arbitration Committee will see that I am a positive contributor to Wikipedia. Regards.--MarshalN20 Talk 05:51, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

Translation
I saw on the 'translation needed' section of the 'Spanish American wars of independence' portal that the Guerra del Pacifico article from the Spanish wikipedia was there. I'm willing to set time aside to do it, but I was going to ask first if this was still necessary or would at least be helpful. Thanks. 70.173.216.115 (talk) 22:53, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
- Hi! Thank you for the message. Any contributions that you can provide to Wikipedia are always appreciated. At the moment I am unable to discuss this topic. I am sure that you can find more information and help at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history. I also recommend discussing the matter with Dentren, who is an experienced editor on the matter (bilingual as well) and a good friend of mine (I trust that he can be of much help!).--MarshalN20 Talk 04:23, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
Static Shock
Hi. First, many thanks for your thoughtful copyedit on Static Shock. I don't know why you choose to copyedit it but I suspect you are interested in the show. In addition of it, your userpage indicates that you are a Latino too. In Brazil it was a success and I wonder if you know anything on its popularity in your country or other Hispanic countries. If my presumptions are correct, I would like to request to you if can find some source for it? (although, for me, it's been harder to find something significant on major Brazilian newspapers and news sites). Regards, Gabriel Yuji (talk) 07:04, 2 August 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Gabriel. Thanks for the message. I watched the show when it was in The WB and enjoyed most episodes (the opening themes were also very catchy!). Unfortunately, I also cannot find useful information on it in Spanish. The results when searching it with the English name are about Jayden Smith's possible role as Static. When searched with the Spanish name (Descarga Eletrica), most of the results are news reports on deaths by electrocution.--MarshalN20 Talk 04:41, 4 August 2015 (UTC)
Bicycle Kick
I took another look at the lead/lede (which spelling do you prefer?) of Bicycle Kick. Just a few comments:
1) What would you think of this change in order to make the sentence more concise (and avoid repeating "can be used")?
From:
- It can be used defensively to clear away the ball from the goalmouth, and it can be used offensively to strike at [the] goal in an attempt to score.
To:
- It can be used defensively to clear away the ball from the goalmouth or defensively to strike at the goal in an attempt to score. ("The" needs to be added.)
2) Everything is fine up to the third paragraph. The third paragraph is fine up to the third sentence:
- Despite football lore's many legends on the possible origins of the bicycle kick, newspaper archives from the turn of the 20th century evidence a complex, multinational history for the bicycle kick's invention, naming, and diffusion.
I think this sentence is a bit dense, or unnecessarily academic in tone. I don't think the construction, "Despite X, Y" is the best construction for the lead. I think the sentence should be simpler and more straightforward. Also, even if re-worded, this sentence touches upon the same points as are explained a bit more clearly in the last sentence of the lead. Give some thought to mentioning it in only one place in the lead, perhaps introducing the complex history and controversy just before the last sentence in the lead.
- I don't think the next sentence ("According to Jorge Barraza"), or the quote, needs to be in the lead.
3) The last paragraph of the lead is fine. Just a stylistic choice: I prefer spaced en-dashes to unspaced em-dashes. I use a no-break space before the en-dash so it doesn't end up on the next line. But that choice is yours.
I'll re-read the rest of the article now. CorinneSD (talk) 17:50, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
The last sentence of the first paragraph in Bicycle Kick#Name is as follows:
- The maneuver is also referred to as a "scissors kick" because—as described by professional football coach Colin Schmidt—when "the kicking foot goes to meet the ball, the non-kicking foot makes a quick move back toward the ball (like blades of scissors coming together)".
I'm just wondering if the words in parentheses, "like blades of scissors coming together", were Colin Schmidt's actual words or are your explanation. If they are your words, I believe the close quotation marks should be moved to right after "toward the ball".
The third sentence in that same "Name" section starts, "The motion is also called an "overhead kick". I'm wondering whether you think "The move" would be better than "The motion". Look at Definition 3 of the Noun definitions at [1] CorinneSD (talk) 18:00, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you, Corinne. I have edited the article based on the recommended improvements.
- The words in parentheses are part of the quote. I use brackets to insert clarifications or alter capitalization in a text (lower-case to upper-case, and vice versa).
- I use the word "lead" for the introduction. However, I used to work for a newspaper before getting into the world of higher-education, so I really don't mind using either term.
- Please let me know if you have any other thoughts or questions. Best regards!--MarshalN20 Talk 23:20, 20 July 2015 (UTC)
Marshal, at the risk of annoying you, I'd like to review a possible slight change with you to these sentences:
- The move is also called an "overhead kick," which (according to football instructors Klaus Bischops and Heinz-Willi Gerards) refers to the ball being "kicked above head level".[1] The maneuver is also referred to as a "scissors kick" because—as described by professional football coach Colin Schmidt—when "the kicking foot goes to meet the ball, the non-kicking foot makes a quick move back toward the ball (like blades of scissors coming together)".
I'd like to combine these two sentences (as we did with the other two). I would choose one word, "move" or "maneuver", whichever one you like better, and use it at the beginning. I'll select "maneuver" temporarily. It could be re-worded as follows:
- The maneuver is also called an "overhead kick", which, according to football instructors Klaus Bischops and Heinz-Willi Gerards, refers to the ball being "kicked above head level" (reference here), or a "scissors kick", reflecting the movement described by professional football coach Colin Schmidt: "[when] the kicking foot goes to meet the ball, the non-kicking foot makes a quick move back toward the ball (like blades of scissors coming together)".
[Punctuation at the end dependent upon whether "like blades..." are your words or Schmidt's.] I think a pair of commas are less distracting than parentheses, and I don't think "because" is needed and this wording avoids using "because". What do you think? CorinneSD (talk) 00:08, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- @CorinneSD: I agree, it looks much better! The "like blades" part of the quote are Schmidt's words. Thank you.--MarshalN20 Talk 03:54, 21 July 2015 (UTC)
- I see your most recent edits indicating that you were changing the article to British English. It is, of course, your choice, but I'm wondering why, since the bicycle kick appears to have originated in South America. Also, you (or your software program) seem to think that putting the close-quotation marks inside the final period, or full-stop, is British English. If you read MOS:LQ, second paragraph, you'll see that a distinction is made between whether the quote is a sentence or a fragment (which I interpret as an incomplete sentence):
- Where a quotation is a sentence and coincides with the end of the sentence containing it, terminal punctuation should normally be placed inside the closing quotation mark. Where the quotation is a single word or fragment, terminal punctuation should be placed outside.
- @CorinneSD: I prefer to work using American English. The problem is that when I submitted the Peru national football team article for FA review, one of the users presented a procedural oppose (per WP:RETAIN) arguing that the language of the article was originally British English. Checking back on the bicycle kick's article history, I saw an edit ([2]) that indicated this should be written in British English. I don't want to run again into the same procedural oppose due to it.
- I don't know much about smart quoting. I appreciate the link to the MOS on the subject. It was very informative!
- I will take another look at the quotes in the article and match them up with the MOS.
- I don't plan to add any further text or make any further alterations (aside from the quotes) that may conflict with your review. Please forgive me if my recent editing was conflicting with the copy-edit.
- I look forward to reading more comments you have about the article.
- Thanks!--MarshalN20 Talk 03:51, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

Diablada
Hey!
Would you mind to keep an eye on Diablada? I have seen some suspicious IP activity apparently pushing for some nationalist point of view contrary to evidence. Dentren | Talk 18:30, 19 August 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Dentren. Thank you for the note. I rollback-reverted the IP since its edits were clearly vandalism (unexplained removal of content). I remember attempting to improve it a few years ago, but it turned out to be a very complicated article—certainly much more than my personal interest for the subject. Ultimately, what must be upheld is that (regardless of its origin) the dance is part of the indigenous tradition of Chile, Bolivia, Peru, and Argentina. I see that the current lead does not reflect this, and should therefore be improved. Regards.--MarshalN20 Talk 18:49, 19 August 2015 (UTC)

Already quite a bit further
Hi, thanks a lot for the input you already gave during the GA nomination review of Belgium national football team. Honestly, at first I was not too amused with the many remarks on this article from which I often thought it was "nearly finished", but now I have to admit that only this way it can become more reader-friendly and less newssite-like. I know there is still quite a way to go, but day by day I hope to get it better. You too, get better soon. Kareldorado (talk) 18:46, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
P.S.: Would you dare to challenge FC Barcelona's FA status? The article is full of tasty sandwiches! :)
- Yes. The FA reviewers were very rigorous in their evaluation of the Peruvian team article. I am surprised that they let the Barcelona one pass with so many MoS violations.--MarshalN20 Talk 17:11, 15 August 2015 (UTC)
- Apparently the appearance of the Barcelona article was a lot more skinny at the moment that it attained FA status, so more understandable. Do you still have suggestions for things that I could do to significantly improve the Belgium NFT article? I am out of inspiration regarding adding/reducing content, rewriting the text in a better way and improving layout. Thanks, Kareldorado (talk) 17:45, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Kareldorado. No worries. I just have a few suggestions left prior to passing the GA nomination. Regards.--MarshalN20 Talk 19:05, 24 August 2015 (UTC)
Arbitration motion regarding Argentine History
The Arbitration Committee has resolved by motion that:
Remedy 2 (MarshalN20 topic banned) of the Argentine History case is suspended for a period of one year. During the period of suspension, this topic ban may be reinstated by any uninvolved administrator as an arbitration enforcement action should MarshalN20 fail to adhere to Wikipedia editing standards in the area previously covered by the topic ban. Appeal of such a reinstatement would follow the normal arbitration enforcement appeals process. After one year from the date of passage of this motion, if the topic ban has not been reinstated or any reinstatements have been successfully appealed, the topic ban will be lifted.

WikiCup 2015 September newsletter
The finals for the 2015 Wikicup has now begun! Congrats to the 8 contestants who have survived to the finals, and well done and thanks to everyone who took part in rounds 3 and 4.
In round 3, we had a three-way tie for qualification among the wildcard contestants, so we had 34 competitors. The leader was by far Casliber (submissions) in Group B, who earned 1496 points. Although 913 of these points were bonus points, he submitted 15 articles in the DYK category. Second place overall was Coemgenus (submissions) at 864 points, who although submitted just 2 FAs for 400 points, earned double that amount for those articles in bonus points. Everyone who moved forward to Round 4 earned at least 100 points.
The scores required to move onto the semifinals were impressive; the lowest scorer to move onto the finals was 407, making this year's Wikicup as competitive as it's always been. Our finalists, ordered by round 4 score, are:
- Cas Liber (submissions), who is competing in his sixth consecutive Wikicup final, again finished the round in first place, with an impressive 1666 points in Pool B. Casliber writes about the natural sciences, including ornithology, botany and astronomy. A large bulk of his points this round were bonus points.
- Godot13 (submissions) (FP bonus points), second place both in Pool B and overall, earned the bulk of his points with FPs, mostly depicting currency.
- Cwmhiraeth (submissions), first in Pool A, came in third. His specialty is natural science articles; in Round 4, he mostly submitted articles about insects and botany. Five out of the six of the GAs he submitted were level-4 vital articles.
- Harrias (submissions), second in Pool A, took fourth overall. He tends to focus on articles about cricket and military history, specifically the 1640s First English Civil War.
- West Virginian (submissions), from Pool A, was our highest-scoring wildcard. West Virginia tends to focus on articles about the history of (what for it!) the U.S. state of West Virginia.
- Rodw (submissions), from Pool A, likes to work on articles about British geography and places. Most of his points this round were earned from two impressive accomplishments: a GT about Scheduled monuments in Somerset and a FT about English Heritage properties in Somerset.
- Rationalobserver (submissions), from Pool B, came in seventh overall. RO earned the majority of her points from GARs and PRs, many of which were earned in the final hours of the round.
- Calvin999 (submissions), also from Pool B, who was competing with RO for the final two spots in the final hours, takes the race for most GARs and PRs—48.
The intense competition between RO and Calvin999 will continue into the finals. They're both eligible for the Newcomers Trophy, given for the first time in the Wikicup; whoever makes the most points will win it.
Good luck to the finalists; the judges are sure that the competition will be fierce!

"Over-deserved" is all I can say. It may seem a bit strange that I hand this one to you since I am not part of the Peruvian WP, but this act is not less genuine since you brought two articles of special value for many Peruvians subsequently to GA and FA. I intentionally waited a bit with awarding this estrella, so no one could blame me for bribing the judge during my GA-review. :) My deepest respect for your dedicated editorship, Kareldorado (talk) 20:03, 1 September 2015 (UTC) |

- Keysanger, all I can tell you at this time is that I am sorry that you feel that I was uncivil towards you. I still don't comprehend where you see the attacks, but life has taught me that it is important to put myself in another person's shoes.
- On a related matter, I assume that you mean well and that you do truly consider that your work on War of the Pacific has been an improvement, but how is it possible that, in over half a decade of editing, the article is still in a condition that wouldn't even pass a GA review? Not only that, but every time someone tries to become involved in the article, they end up in an editing dispute with you.
- I don't think that this is healthy for neither the encyclopedia nor you. I've seen you do good work about Chilean military ships and bases, and other types of military-related work about Chile. Do you honestly prefer to be in constant arguments over the same article instead of enjoying your time in Wikipedia working in other articles?

Pisco Sour Infobox
The Pisco Sour is an IBA drink. Quote the Infobox Cocktail template, section on ingredients: "If the drink is an IBA Official Cocktail, only the official ingredients should be listed." There is no lime in the IBA recipe, per http://iba-world.com/new-era-drinks/ Quote the section on footnoes: "Footnotes are printed in very small text, and are most useful for minor notes or clarifications of other information mentioned in the infobox.", emphasis mine. There IS no lime in the official recipe, thus there is none in the infobox, thus the footnotes section is not meant to include such. ANY reference to a Peruvian or Chilean recipe, which according to the repeatedly replaced text include lime, and EXclude lemon in both cases, goes in the ARTICLE, not in the infobox. Full stop, end of story. If ANYONE is being a vandal here, it's YOU, adding information that DOES NOT BELONG. 85.229.48.166 (talk) 15:55, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
- The infobox (in all articles) is meant to serve as a brief summary of the article's information. The Pisco sour is an IBA drink, sure, but it also is a traditional drink of Peru and Chile that has unique ingredients in both countries. The footnote is clearly a clarification of this matter, lest the reader get the impression that there is only one recipe for Pisco sour. There is no such thing as a single "official recipe" for the drink; and that is the real end of the story.
- @Dentren: Whenever you have some time, please let me know your thoughts on the matter.--MarshalN20 Talk 19:10, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
- Also, at no point did I say you were a vandal. There is a difference between behavior and being. Vandalism is a behavior. If I spray paint the wall in a private property, I committed an act of vandalism. However, this doesn't make me a vandal; there needs to be a pattern of behavior before such a title can be bestowed unto anyone.
- That being clarified, I do not approve you calling me a vandal as it is a personal attack. Kindly stop. Have a good day.--MarshalN20 Talk 19:31, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
- "The infobox (in all articles) is meant to serve as a brief summary of the article's information." No. It is not. It is there to present a easy-to-find, consistant reference to the pertinent information of the drink. What it contains, in what amounts, prepared how, presented how. As noted. Ingredients, measures of same, preparation, garnish, presentation. That is all. The footnotes should not even be used, by preference, and IF used, should contain clarifications of what is mentioned in the infobox. There is no lime in the infobox. Thus, there is no mentioning the Peruvian or Chilean variations in the footnotes...because there ARE no such variations to the IBA Official Pisco Sour. Full stop, end of story. The article, in the other hand, can and should contain things like variations, history, and so on and so forth, for further reading. But the infobox is meant to be a quick reference of the drink. Nothing more. "There is no such thing as a single "official recipe" for the drink" Yes, there is. As outlined by the template information for the 'infobox cocktail'. Otherwise, there wouldn't BE a specific "IBA" tag to signify "IBA Official Cocktail". And finally, as for you not saying I am a vandal... "your removal of the text, without discussion, is nothing more than vandalism". To accuse someone of an act is to say that the person is someone commiting such acts. Vandalism is commited by a vandal. Murder is committed by a murderer. And so on and so forth. Thus, yes. You said I am a vandal. Seems the shoe doesn't fit NEARLY as well on the other foot? 85.229.48.166 (talk) 14:30, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
- While the drink is certainly Peruvian origin it has evolved over time and now it is bi-national drink with two main versions. Regarding the use of footnotes I am not sure if key lime is different from pica lime, which might be just a local name. Is it not possible to make the footnotes bigger with some formatting <large> or simmilar? Dentren | Talk 07:23, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
- Totally agree with Dentren. IP contributor, I have no problem taking this through the Dispute Resolution process.--MarshalN20 Talk 15:10, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
- I think there may be slight differences in the acidic content of the limes, depending on location.--MarshalN20 Talk 15:12, 29 October 2015 (UTC)
