delete File:Missions of NKR.png on Wikipedia

Hallo Magog the Ogre, I would like ask You for deletion of File:Missions of NKR.png on Wikipedia, because it was copied to Wikimedia Commons. Thanks You. Jan CZ (talk) 10:10, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

Done Magog the Ogre (tc) 04:33, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

This image should be on en.Wikipedia with the 1923-abroad license, not on Commons. It is a photo taken by an unknown photographer in Britain about 1880. Can you please put it back on en.Wikipedia? Thanks! -- Ssilvers (talk) 01:37, 17 April 2016 (UTC)

Moving deletion of File:Holbrookssmall.jpg

Hi,

This morning you deleted Wikipedia's version of File:Holbrookssmall.jpg, which makes me unable to view that version. I had relevant source and author information, but apparently when Skb8721 transferred the file to Commons, he neglected to transfer that. Are you able to view and replace that missing information? Thanks. ɱ (talk · vbm · coi) 15:53, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

@: The description on Commons is exactly the same as it was on English Wikipedia; nothing has been omitted. Maybe your confusion is because Skb8721 removed the infobox on English Wikipedia immediately after his first upload?Magog the Ogre (tc) 01:39, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

Admins going against me; becoming an administrator?

The Rambling Man, JHunterJ, KrakatoaKatie, BethNaught... What do they have in common? They find me bothersome and a waste of time. They think I must put a lot of effort to build their trust? They think Wikipedia might be fine without me? If neither, and if that's not the case, what is wrong with me? I attempted to do another editor review until I realize it is inactive and historical. For some time, I resisted on becoming an administrator, but I have second thoughts. Unfortunately, I fear that consensus may go against my request to become an administrator. How do I earn chances to become an administrator? Cleaning up my acts? What else? --George Ho (talk) 08:44, 23 April 2016 (UTC)

@George Ho: well what are they saying you're doing wrong? Magog the Ogre (tc) 17:19, 24 April 2016 (UTC)
... I think I can handle it myself. I just got angry and frustrated; that's all. --George Ho (talk) 23:22, 24 April 2016 (UTC)

SMcCandlish and TRM think I should stop "canvassing" with administrators and/or others. I don't know what he meant, but I just notified editors without feeling I did anything wrong, like violating it. What should I do? Shall I go with what they want me to do? --George Ho (talk) 19:04, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

Here's something: stop looking for problems all over Wikipedia. Work on impoving articles, or making it a better experience for readers rather than just continually trying to niggle away at trivial issues. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:13, 27 April 2016 (UTC)

When being an admin you need to react to criticism well. If several people criticize you and you don't understand why it is problematic for an admin. HighInBC 01:14, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
@HighInBC: Was it directed toward me or TRM? George Ho (talk) 21:31, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
You George. TRM knows all about how much admins get critized, like me. HighInBC 02:17, 29 April 2016 (UTC)
I'm afraid I have to agree with HBC. Your inability to understand what people say to you speaks poorly of your chances to be an administrator. Please note that this is not a death sentence; there are a lot of very good editors who do not have special bits around here. I spent quite a while as one myself. I am still absolutely committed to walking you through being an editor. Magog the Ogre (tc) 03:09, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

By looking at the archives, it seems like you had an extensive experience dealing with Lagoo sab socks. Can you please check the evidence presented at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Lagoo sab#14 April 2016 and give your opinion whether you think its a Lagoo sab sock or not? Somehow the "do not copy to Commons" tag was removed and the file was copied there. I've restored the "do not copy" tag for it here after I saw the file was moved there. Can you delete the Commons copy, please? Thanks! We hope (talk) 12:13, 2 May 2016 (UTC)

When I uploaded this, I found no information re: lifetime of the artist, so I went with when the book was published. If it's decided to keep the file at Commons, the extra pages will need to be transferred as they include the publication information for the book and the name of the artist. This comes from HathiTrust and they block all but US IPs from full viewing the books, so those outside of the US won't be able to see the information. I uploaded the extra pages as proof of date of publication and artist. We hope (talk) 23:53, 2 May 2016 (UTC)

@We hope: I've added the Keep Local tag. If the file is kept on Commons, can we delete it here? Magog the Ogre (tc) 00:26, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
Sure, as long as the proof pages for its publication and identity of the artist are moved to Commons also. Just concerned about providing proof, especially because those outside of the US have no chance to full view much at HathiTrust. Thanks! We hope (talk) 00:35, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
User:Stefan2, the problem with HathiTrust is similar to that of viewing some Google Books--only those with a US IP are allowed full access to them. I just read through the book there and the information is on page 56 "die P. Guelle 1782 schuf"-which P. Guelle created in 1782. Have taken a copy of the page and uploaded it on the file here. What's still here should provide the proof needed for Commons--it just needs to be moved over there. We hope (talk) 23:30, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
The page with all that text can't be moved to Commons because the person who wrote the text might not have been dead for at least 70 years. What you could do is to mention the page number on the file information page. That way, people could at least find the information by checking a paper copy of the book. --Stefan2 (talk) 23:39, 5 May 2016 (UTC)
I checked the catalog record and he died in 1914. The page for the information on the sketch is on page 56 of the book and I just added it to the file information here. We hope (talk) 00:15, 6 May 2016 (UTC)
@We hope: good sleuthing! Magog the Ogre (tc) 03:35, 6 May 2016 (UTC)
We hope, the Commons deletion request closed as 'keep'. Can {{keep local}} be replaced by {{subst:ncd}}? --Stefan2 (talk) 16:28, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

User:Stefan2, If either of you are willing to copy the template with the additional information from here and upload the full page which gives credit to the artist at lower left, the book's first page (author and date information) and the page from the book which established when it was created. (Book author died in 1914-information on the file template here.), you can be rid of the file here at WP. Just wanted to have that done so there are no future misunderstandings about the file over there. We hope (talk) 16:41, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

Central discussion vs individual cases

I am very tired of being criticized and unappreciated. I thought I did what I thought was best for the Project, but somehow I met opposition. If I build more individual cases, I would be criticized more. But if I poorly develop a central discussion, people might be confused. If I build a less popular central discussion, the consensus may be lacking. What can I do? --George Ho (talk) 08:26, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

@George Ho: it has been my impression that you are having trouble in some of the areas you're working in. You might try working in other areas where you encounter less opposition. I don't know precisely what will work for you. You will probably have to try your hand at things until finally something clicks. Magog the Ogre (tc) 17:03, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

Being criticized

Are criticisms unfair? Shall I take criticisms so seriously and fix whatever issues that I have are criticized? Why am I feeling letdown and disappointed in either myself or others? --George Ho (talk) 08:28, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

I have tried to ask the people who have criticized you and I haven't had much success. My guess is that it ranges from fair to unfair. Sometimes people have agendas and you fail to understand that because you think very logically and assume everyone else does. But people with agendas don't operate in the arena of logic, they operate in the arena of emotion, and will actively fight against logic. But that doesn't mean they don't have some valid points; often they do. Also, please don't say this to anyone you come into conflict with, because you might be wrong, and even if you're not, it's just going to look like you're dismissing their points.
On the other hand, a lot of people have complained that they say something and you don't listen. I think that sometimes they are assuming you understand something that you don't, and vice versa. You're talking on two different planes, so to speak. It would help if you had some humility; don't forget that the Dunning–Kruger effect makes you (and everyone else) think you're more intelligent than you really are. So it might do you some good to consider what they're saying. I am happy to help out with individual circumstances.
You are feeling let down because things are not working as expected, I assume. Magog the Ogre (tc) 17:14, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

There are two files in the history, and the file usage is messy. Can you fix the file?

  1. The file from 2016 has been uploaded to c:File:REACH Logo.jpg and the local file should be used. It should be used in Reach (brand).
  2. The file from 2013 appears to be unfree and should be used in REACHSingapore.

The local file needs to be unsplit and the logo from Singapore needs to be moved elsewhere (or you can move the Commons logo instead if you prefer). --Stefan2 (talk) 20:38, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

Done Magog the Ogre (tc) 22:02, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
Note that the two REACH logos are for two different things with the same name. They should never have been merged into one file and not tagged as orphaned, so I removed your F5 tag. The file usage seems to be correct now. --Stefan2 (talk) 22:37, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

Giordano AfD

Thanks for the heads up. Actually, the reactions towards me have been pretty OK... a couple of nasty comments on reddit, but not too bad; although the Giordano twitter account (T doesn't verify the account) seems to think that my editing days are over....

I have responded at the DR, and leave it at that. I know that I did what the consensus said, so I have no worries... and even if I hadn't, and it was overturned, I'd just take note of what I had done wrong, and apply that knowledge to future AfDs!

it has been 8 months since he was blocked, and considering that he didn't form any sockpuppet account during this time, and according to wikipedia six months awaiting time for the unblock request,i ask on his behalf for him to be forgiven under the condition that he promises to not edit war and never ever have sockpuppet accounts, and i think that his abstinence of sockpuppeting should be a good indication that he won't sockpuppet again.Alhanuty (talk) 17:56, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

@AlAboud83: he can request unblock on his talk page. Also, it seems that he has sockpuppeted. See [1]. Magog the Ogre (tc) 02:09, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

Now The Rambling Man who is biased against me, concurs with Softlavender, who acts like I violated an outdated consensus. I don't know what to do. Now the more I edit, the more I could no longer work well with people in Wikipedia anymore. I don't want this dispute to increase my animosity toward Wikipedia, especially when two of them still have influence. I'm in trouble; can you help me? I just don't want my FFD discussion to end badly and don't want to re-nominate the DVD for that would be "forum shopping", which I don't think it is. --George Ho (talk) 07:27, 20 May 2016 (UTC)

@George Ho: please explain: why people are against you, why you believe you are right. I can't help without knowing the back story. Magog the Ogre (tc) 02:12, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
Never mind. I could not overturn the consensus to retain the DVD cover, agreed in Talk:Brideshead Revisited (TV serial). Also, I'm considering retirement soon. I'm too tired to work with others in Wikipedia anymore. --George Ho (talk) 02:14, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
@George Ho: beware of the ragequit (sadly, I know from whence I speak). It might be better to just give it a wikibreak and decide after a long wait whether it was a good idea to quit or not. You may decide at that point it was, or it was not. Magog the Ogre (tc) 02:20, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

This is on Commons under the same name in higher resolution, but with conflicting licensing information and no OTRS ticket. Does the OTRS ticket cover the higher resolution copy on Commons? Also, is this a screenshot of Google Earth? --Stefan2 (talk) 09:50, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

@Stefan2: the permission is for the lower resolution image, unfortunately. Magog the Ogre (tc) 16:42, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
@Sphilbrick: would you like to reach out to the copyright holders to see if they are OK with the higher resolution image, or shall I? Magog the Ogre (tc) 16:44, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
@Magog the Ogre: If you don't mind, I'd be happy if you did it. I haven't been doing permissions for for some time, and made an exception in this case, because it started as an info question but frankly, I'm not fully following what has happened.--S Philbrick(Talk) 21:54, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
@Stefan2: belated response to your second question: the font and the coloring sure look like Google Earth. I would have no objection to you opening a DR here and/or on Commons. It might help establish if the Google Earth portion is even copyrightable; e.g., do they get their imagery from public domain satellites? Magog the Ogre (tc) 02:23, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

Nomination of Ankit Love for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Ankit Love is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ankit Love (2nd nomination) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. N4 (talk) 00:36, 25 May 2016 (UTC)

How can I contact SENS to verify the permission on that photograph? The file will be deleted unless we can verify the authorship (see c:Commons:Grandfathered old files). Magog the Ogre (tc) 00:19, 30 May 2016 (UTC)

Moving files to commons

I find it fun and creative to move files from EnWiki to commons, and have a couple of questions; where do I insert the javascript at Wikipedia:Moving_files_to_Commons#Tools? I also fell it would make sense to rename a lot of the files on enWiki before transferring to commons, a Change from completely meaningless names into suitable name, since afterwards, when the file is uploaded to commons, renaming a file just makes a lot of extra work? Willing to quit Wikipedia soon

I'm sorry, Magog. You want me to have a wikibreak, but I can't. Not when I have very little friends but so many enemies here. I am quitting soon, and I don't know when I'll come back. Also, I have done very little to make Wikipedia change itself other than things considered trivial, like capitalization, images, punctuations, titles, etc. I've not done much content other than DYK, drafts, and other things. I'm trying to slow down my activities here, but I've made some edits today. I was part of consensus of WP:page mover, but the outcome would have been predictable without me. I felt like I'm drifting myself away to the point where I'm no longer beneficial or necessary. Guess it's hard to say goodbye to people, including ones who would continue to berate me for my own actions. Maybe I... I don't know. Ah, well. If only people would appreciate my edits sans edit warring... Ah well, I can't please them anymore. I'm tired now, and I'm tired of negative energy around me. It outbalances the positive energy, so I'm trying to end many situations as possible. If I don't come back for years, would my absence affect Wikipedia? --George Ho (talk) 07:57, 29 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi, George. sorry about procrastinating on my response. Can you give me another day to respond? Thanks. Magog the Ogre (tc) 04:11, 2 June 2016 (UTC)
@George Ho: The community doesn't need any of us. The world doesn't even need this project, for that matter, although it's a benefit. So yes, the project will do fine without you or without me or anyone else.
In any case, there are a lot of thoughts you expressed above, but not coherently enough for me to respond to. That is an observation, not a criticism; please let me know if I'm being too blunt. Regardless, if you have questions about any of these things, feel free to ask. Magog the Ogre (tc) 02:50, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

My writing style

Whenever I write, people get confused at what I am saying. Is there something wrong with my conversational skills on the computer? --George Ho (talk) 05:31, 3 June 2016 (UTC)

I think so. Thanks for asking. Sometimes you do not explain the history of the situation and just assume that everyone else will read up on it, or that we already understand it. This just confuses people, me included. Instead, I recommend you talk to everyone as if they are aliens who just came to the Earth and know no history about the situation at all. This will mean you'll need to repeat yourself a lot but that's expected.
Also, understand that sometimes people will not agree with you, even when they do understand. That's OK and also expected. Sometimes, however, it seems you want to try to push harder; it's better to leave things go sometimes.
Let me know if you have any further questions. Magog the Ogre (tc) 02:28, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
Must I repeat every situation? That would make technical literacy less relevant than trying to understand. If technical literacy is not that relevant, then why am I a tech wiz to make that literacy important? I have used templates and images and other sorts of techy stuff. Must I give up tech knowledge to act like a general editor or something? --George Ho (talk) 09:10, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
Your response above illustrates another problem you have: non-sequiturs. You jump from a to c without explaining b. I don't have any idea what technical literacy has to do with what I just said above. Why are you even asking about this? Magog the Ogre (tc) 21:53, 4 June 2016 (UTC)
My apologies. I get frustrated when no one understands what I'm saying. Explaining "b" is not one of my strong interests unless I have to communicate well with others. I mentioned "technical literacy" (or "computer literacy") because I don't like being taken for granted or used by people who would take advantage of my computers skills, especially when others may no desire on being advanced on computers. Also, I like being praised; that's all. I'll ask a better question when I have one. --George Ho (talk) 23:56, 4 June 2016 (UTC)

More automated transfer to Commons problems

Hi. I see that you moved this image to Commons that is not clearly free in England, where it was created: File:Gentlyida.jpg As we discussed in the past with other images, the En.Wikipedia file should have {{PD-US-1923-abroad}} instead of {{PD-US}}. I saw a few other similar images that you moved today and left a note at commons that the license is wrong. -- Ssilvers (talk) 08:54, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

@Ssilvers: no, I clearly added a license to those images. The image in question has a PD-old-100 license which indicates it is free in the UK. Magog the Ogre (tc) 02:07, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
Also, to clarify a few things:
  • I do not move any images. Someone else moves them. I delete them.
  • If you do not want an image to be moved, please mark it with {{KeepLocal}}.
  • Please let me know which images you have an issue with so I can restore them.
Magog the Ogre (tc) 02:10, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
I think the PD-old-100 license is wrong: I don't think we know the date of death of the creator. I would use the PD-US-1923-abroad license instead. The form won't let me change it. -- Ssilvers (talk) 03:41, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
@Ssilvers: it says R. Doyle right on it, which seems to mean Richard Doyle (illustrator), who died but only shortly before you say it was published. Am I missing something? Magog the Ogre (tc) 01:42, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
No, it says Richard D'Oyly Carte, but he is not the illustrator, he was the theatre manager and producer of the show. It turns out, however, that Alice Havers was the illustrator. She died in 1890, so PD-old-100 turns out to be correct. So, no problem with this one. I put the license back as it was. -- 02:02, 7 June 2016 (UTC)

Question...

Can you delete File:KXAS-TV logo.png since it's been moved to Commons under c:File:KXAS-TV 2012 logo.png? How to introduce myself next time

Somehow, the person whom I introduced myself to erased the whole thread. In fact, I did introduce myself but then mentioned someone else. Then the third party showed up, and the primary person assumed that I was bringing in the bitchfest. I was not, but the person told me to go away. I just wanted to contact him... especially when I saw his user page. I don't know if he ever wanted to contact me again. What shall I do? --George Ho (talk) 19:50, 14 June 2016 (UTC)

@George Ho: First off, I would recommend you stop pressing TRM's buttons. Placing a message on someone's talk page complaining about a third party is a form of hostility.
As for the message, why did you say you wanted to proverbially shake hands with him? I'm trying to understand the back story. Magog the Ogre (tc) 23:42, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
I was trying to introduce myself to Duncan. I don't know why I said "shake hands". I just want to converse with that person who was in the errors discussion. Maybe next time, I'll do my best not to mention TRM with others. --George Ho (talk) 02:05, 15 June 2016 (UTC)
@George Ho: I am not entirely sure, but I think DuncanHill just didn't want people arguing on his talk page. Everyone's different, but sometimes people can get sick of someone who wants to interact with them too much. I would recommend not to pester him unless there is a direct need for it. Magog the Ogre (tc) 01:57, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

Shall I or shan't I report a user?

It's not TRM anymore. It's someone else: In ictu oculi. He keeps disambiguating articles for no apparent reason other than some kind of distinction or title clarity or something. I tried warning him, but that made me a bad guy. I just could not handle the way he disambiguates anymore, like he did to Snatcher. Also, he created Ready for Your Love (Chapter 8 song) just to disambiguate other articles of the same name, but the article is now redirected to its parent article Chapter 8 (album). If I can't report him to ANI, what else shall I do? --George Ho (talk) 07:57, 15 June 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) "It's not TRM anymore. It's someone else". In my opinion, George, right here we see your problem. Is "it" ever you? Could "it" ever be you?
Forget whether someone is a "bad guy" or your current enemy or not, or whether someone should "be reported". None of that is important.
I spent a long time trying to get you away from that extremely peculiar mindset. Time wasted, it seems. Unless you can understand that, I don't know what to say.
As for what you should do, well, "stop picking fights and get on with something productive rather than finding folks to irritate, or being inexplicably and demonstratively upset by folks who did nothing at all to you" is a plan you could very profitably consider. Begoontalk 15:53, 15 June 2016 (UTC)
@George Ho: Once again, you've given me little to no back story. Please do not continue to ask me questions on things without providing the back story. I am not psychic; I do not know your history, IIO's history, anyone else involved, or for that matter what makes one disambiguation better than another. In this case, please lay out your previous interactions with him, why you think his actions are problematic for Wikipedia, and yours are not. Or have you never even considered the possibility that you are ever wrong?
You do not need to stop interacting with me. I just need much more explanation. Magog the Ogre (tc) 01:52, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
All right. I'll explain my interaction with IIO. IIO has always mostly fetish on disambiguating anything merely because a title may appear generic. He provides same arguments in every discussion about titles. I confronted him about it, even when I invited him to RM discussions. Also, he created articles, including some that are deleted or redirected per AFD. Also, he made bold moves on titles without discussion sometimes. I'm not saying he is a bad editor or anything. I just think he needs to be considerate about disambiguation and primacy. Speaking of primacy, his favoring some obscure writer as primary topic at Talk:Alun Lewis shows his unwillingness to construct a discussion with others about topics of same name. Shall I provide more story and/or diffs? George Ho (talk) 02:10, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
I hate to admit: some of his arguments, especially at Talk:...Baby One More Time (song), are plausible, but they lacked in-depth(?). George Ho (talk) 09:40, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

This image was moved to Commons some time ago, and you just deleted it from en.Wikipedia, but I don't see any indication that it is free in England, its country of origin: File:Terry's theatre.jpg. I'm wondering if you check that the licensing is correct before you do F8 deletions? -- Ssilvers (talk) 02:58, 19 June 2016 (UTC)

@Ssilvers: Sorry, again. I am confused how that even happened. No one had edited the image for three months, then somehow it ended up on my deletion queue. Magog the Ogre (tc) 15:41, 19 June 2016 (UTC)
Oh, it looks like the NowCommons tag was never removed. I need to put a marker on that license. Magog the Ogre (tc) 15:42, 19 June 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:10, 19 June 2016 (UTC)

Commons Issue

It is more than a year (1y4m) that I've been blocked in commons. Is it possible to change the situation? I really learned a lesson from that and during this time I think I became more calm and try to use wikimedia policies. You are admin and you know that story. At the moment I want to contribute to Commons but I can't write even on my talk page.--g. balaxaZe 09:40, 19 June 2016 (UTC)

@Giorgi Balakhadze: pardon me for holding your feet to the fire, but we have a bit of a procedure for such things. Communities don't like unblocks unless that procedure is followed. Can you explain what you got you blocked, and why it will no longer be an issue? Thanks. Magog the Ogre (tc) 00:46, 20 June 2016 (UTC)

Maps' move

Hello Magog the Ogre you are moving my maps the best. So please have an attention to them (see this two moved by Music1201: File:Dzama river basin on the Shida Kartli map.svg; File:East Prone river basin on the Shida Kartli map.svg) it is moved with mistakes. I've already told to that user :/ There are some other works: Category:Copy to Wikimedia Commons reviewed by a human. --g. balaxaZe 13:48, 26 June 2016 (UTC)

@Giorgi Balakhadze: my bot fixes those a day or two after they're uploaded, but I updated it by hand anyway. Magog the Ogre (tc) 17:27, 26 June 2016 (UTC)

Before asking...

I think I'm going down to the bottom. I asked for more mentors, but people emphasize the negatives about me, causing the request to fail. I tried raising an issue at WT:ITN, but I got clammed down. I made discussions at the user talk pages of someone who beat me down in front of everyone. I discussed images at WikiProject talk pages, but I get chided for being either unproductive or useless or uncooperative. Everywhere I go, I do not belong. If I work on pages alone, I don't know what people would thank me for. I don't think I'd be thanked for my hard work on pages in the future. That's what bothers me. If I can't retire, maybe I would consider a very long Wikibreak. Also, I'm planning to write down a list of reasons for comeback, but I'm not confident that it'll be pleasant. --George Ho (talk) 02:13, 21 June 2016 (UTC)

@George Ho: George, it seems like you're absolutely incorrigible sometimes. People try to tell you something, and you just assume they're wrong or they don't understand you. In this very post, you continue to blame everyone else rather than admit any fault ("People empasize the negative", "I got clammed down", "I get chided). Quite frankly, people are fed up with it. It's hard for me to know how much of this is because you are not able to understand what's going on, and how much of it is because you don't want to understand. You don't seem to be able to understand the concept that there are disagreements about content on here, and it's not your job to pound your ideas into someone else's head until they accept. In either case, I don't know what else to say to get through to you. Magog the Ogre (tc) 01:51, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
I admit I messed up a lot. I got Begoon going against me because I poorly understood people's perspectives about rules. I thought people broke rules, but now I am wondering whether the rules are firm... or broken. I got every Project community somewhat going against me because I never had much interest in improving the articles as much as I was interesting in either images or trying to clean out copyrights. That really put them off. I never had much interesting in things that seem too serious to them, like politics, inaccuracies, and other topics. I tried to apologize to them for my behavior, but they either never responded or are still bitter about me. Somehow, I felt they don't want to talk to me again... ever. ITN... that's the thing. I couldn't put trust on them, but I never have done anything really productive there. People there were against me because I've not been really useful but whine instead about everything.
I didn't want to admit the wrong that I have done because if I did, I felt that I wasted ten years of contributing to pages about topics that I would no longer care for anymore. Cheers sucks after Diane Chambers left the show; it has bunch of mean people. I'm unsure about Frasier, but I'm tired of seeing resemblance to Grammer's private life in fiction. Using offline sources is time-consuming. I would never research more efficiently alone; I needed a teammate or partner, but I don't have what it takes to build a real-life teamwork relationship. My work in Wikipedia is wasted on caring about... sexual identities, images, being alone, passive aggression, being hounded defenselessly, etc. I made meaningless debates on what's considered nothing important... Maybe because I thought general readers only care about images and pop culture and current or recent events and some simple topic... like Homer Simpson or... cat? Maybe I don't know about general readers at all.
However, Not just me. That guy who recently went to my talk page several times keeps thanking me for edits, like removing a non-free image of a dead person in favor of a free one. Actually, I was trying to preserve that non-free image until he made some negotiations with the copyright owner of the image. I don't know how he does that. Also, well... The guy in my talk page says that I'm pretend to quit just for attention or something. Also, he thinks I'm using this as substitute for Facebook or something. I told him not to contact me anymore, but he still keeps contacting me wherever I go. Well... I did debate with him recently at the discussion about changing the criteria of recent deaths, but that's about it. Outside, I tend to avoid him, but he still keeps responding and responding.
Actually, I'm willing to take a break, but I must complete Thanksgiving Orphans first to make it GA. However, if I don't edit articles or talk very much to others, this indicates that my activities will be severely down. I will actually no longer have a purpose to go active in Wikipedia as I used to. The reasons of being active are article titles and images, but that's about it. I couldn't care less about people's sexualities unless the people come out verifiably. As said before, Cheers and Frasier... Well, Frasier seems a little better than Cheers, but I can't help laughing whenever Rebecca Howe (Kirstie Alley) self-destructs. Maybe I'll come back once I finish watching either or both shows completely.
George Ho (talk) 03:32, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
@George Ho: I'm sorry, but you're still not getting it. You are talking about how you messed up once. You didn't mess up once. It's your entire approach that is destined to set people off. And then when they get upset, you blame it on them, or you vaguely understand that it's your fault but you don't seem to understand the mechanism of why. But we've told you: you need to listen. Approach things with humility. My I introduce you to the Dunning–Kruger effect? Basically everyone thinks they're smarter than they really are. So please have some humility.
Your problem is also that you are treating things too rigidly, as if there is some master blueprint that must be followed to a tee, come Hell or high water. That's not how Wikipedians work, though. We come to a situation and handle it with care, using the blueprint where applicable. Do you see the difference in those approaches? Your end goal is the blueprint, it almost seems, whereas everyone else just wants to make Wikipedia better. Usually it is smart to adhere to a blueprint, but sometimes circumstances come up which mean they don't fit well. This is my assessment; perhaps I'm wrong, but I know there is at least a large amount of truth in it.
Then we have your non-sequiturs, which I have studiously asked you to watch for. And yet you do them constantly. Like above: you were talking about disagreeing with other people on Wikipedia, and all of a sudden, bam! Cheers sucks. What the bloody hell does that have to do with the rest of the conversation? Please remember to explain your thought process for things like that. Magog the Ogre (tc) 02:35, 28 June 2016 (UTC)
If I don't make sense to you, perhaps I'll give you outlines instead before responding. Or maybe I will write outlines and then respond in prose. Or maybe you have another suggestion. As for "listening", would that be responding or noticing and acting upon. George Ho (talk) 03:53, 28 June 2016 (UTC)

Harassment

Hi. Could you please remove the archive from my talkpage on this article talkpage? The new editor went through my talkpage archives apparently looking for dirt, instead of relying on reliable third-party sources. (Btw, at the time I was right because Danièle Watts still has an article...)Zigzig20s (talk) 11:32, 1 July 2016 (UTC)

@Zigzig20s: I'd rather not. The comment was an ad hominem but not so inappropriate that I would censor it. You can ask another admin of course. Magog the Ogre (tc) 22:16, 1 July 2016 (UTC)
It's more the direct link to an archive from my talkpage that creeps me out.Zigzig20s (talk) 22:19, 1 July 2016 (UTC)
@Zigzig20s: so are you asking me to remove something from your archive or from the talk page of the article? Magog the Ogre (tc) 22:23, 1 July 2016 (UTC)
From the talkpage of the article, because it links back to my archived talkpage and it's creepy.Zigzig20s (talk) 22:34, 1 July 2016 (UTC)
@Zigzig20s: while I appreciate the sentiment, I would consider that censorship. The proper course of action is to apologize if you said something wrong and ask the commenter to stay on topic rather than make a personal attack. That's my two cents, but feel free to ask another admin. Magog the Ogre (tc) 01:27, 2 July 2016 (UTC)
I'm sorry? I did nothing wrong. THEY went through my archive and looked for garbage in an attempt to discredit me. I have been sticking to reliable third-party sources all along. They created their account yesterday and probably don't know how Wikipedia works. If anyone needs to apologise, it's them. But they probably won't as they're new, and in the mean time I would appreciate the entire world not being led to my archived talkpage.Zigzig20s (talk) 09:47, 2 July 2016 (UTC)

1975 EEC Referendum Maps

Hi there, please could you create some special maps of the local results of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland of the results of the 1975 EEC Referendum using the broundries that were used at the time for the referendum to supplement the Results of the United Kingdom European Communities membership referendum, 1975 and also could you please create a blank map of the 68 Counting areas for the UK that were used in 1975 for the Referendum Act 1975 article. Many thanks (46.65.8.34 (talk) 22:22, 8 July 2016 (UTC))

your assistance please...

You completed a {{db-g7}} of User:Geo Swan/review/Sada training camp for me.

I recently purchased a copy of a book that covers the camp in detail.

I can't remember whether the 2009 version had significant detail, or references that would measure up to the standards of 2016. But I would appreciate you grafting the revision history of the 2009 version to User:Geo Swan/Sadda training camp.

Thanks! Geo Swan (talk) 07:57, 8 July 2016 (UTC)

Your opinion about this diagram

Hello dear Magog the Ogre. I will be glad to know your opinion about this image. I spent hours to illustrate it so it definitely will be important for me to know and see your opinion in this page. Thank you and also thanks for your contributions on Wikimedia projects. Ali Zifan 02:18, 22 July 2016 (UTC)

Commons

Hello Magog the Ogre, I am again about Commons, recently Wikimedia Community User Group Georgia has received an email for participation in Wiki Loves Monuments 2016. From Georgian side I am the most interested person and already organizer. As you know WLM is about photos so Commons access is extra needed. You've told me to explain what I got from blocking and now it is definitely clear for me that using policies is the best solution in disputes and revert plays do not bring solution. Also I am not side walker in Wikimedia and my block punished me a lot, because my contribution was not so productive as I could. Now a lot of time has flowed from my block and I think I deserve chance to be unblocked, I give my word that for every controversial edit I will bring admins attention to it and will act after discussion. But for now I just want to bring all my photos or works to Commons and organize WLM 2016 for September.--g. balaxaZe 11:19, 29 July 2016 (UTC)

Here are requirements for organizing: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2016/Organise --g. balaxaZe 16:58, 29 July 2016 (UTC)
@Giorgi Balakhadze: you have given a good argument, and I am convinced, so I've unblocked your account. I'm on wikibreak so I will not be around to ask questions, unfortunately. Magog the Ogre (tc) 19:36, 30 July 2016 (UTC)
Thanks a lot, it brings happiness to me!--g. balaxaZe 08:42, 1 August 2016 (UTC)

You have new messages on Commons

You received a new message at Wikimedia Commons. See this. XPanettaa (talk) 13:25, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

This file and other similar ones are speedied here and on Commons. Since it's useful to WP, not a copyright violation and the uploader will probably never see your posts to their talk page (and identified it as "own work" back in '07), it seems a shame to lose it over a technicality; many older uploads have similar sketchy or inaccurate information. In this case, I'm inclined to IAR and change the licensing to {{Cc-by-sa-4.0}}; in their choice of license, the uploader apparently confused their derivative work with the original bas-relief (whose creator died in the 17th century). What say you? All the best, Miniapolis 13:48, 17 September 2016 (UTC)

@Miniapolis: When Wikipedia was in its inception, they IAR'ed the copyright for a lot of their images, but eventually cracked down on it because copyright drives to the heart of the project and creates legal problems for real world reusers. So, unfortunately, no, I don't think that's a good idea. Magog the Ogre (tc) 14:23, 17 September 2016 (UTC)
Okay; I defer to your expertise in the filespace. Thanks for the quick reply; I was about to take this to AN because of the wikibreak tag on your talk page :-). All the best, Miniapolis 14:51, 17 September 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Magog the Ogre. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:47, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Long term abuse

Hello Magog. Idont know if you remember this case, but a year ago there was an editor in the Rojava page and lots of toubles were cause by him which you solved. This link take you to the old problem.

Since then, this user expanded and created many accounts with different new personas and I've opened a case against him here Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Long_term_abuse

Since you were the main admin involved, I thought its good to tell you. Cheers--Attar-Aram syria (talk) 21:22, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

@My.Angeel: I tried to get an Arabic speaker on Commons to help, since I suppose you speak Arabic. I am not trying to offend you, since you prefer Kurdish, but we have no Kurdish users, and most Iraqi Kurds know some Arabic. However, I could not even find a good Arabic speaker to help, so I will try in English. Could you please look at c:Commons:Fair use? Magog the Ogre (tc) 01:12, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Truck stop women

Sorry to have kind of stepped over you reverting my G5 request at File:Truck stop women.jpg. I hadn't made clear in my request that it's a WMF directive that this user's contributions be deleted. I had just been reviewing their SPI case and found some files which were missed. There was a discussion about it at ANI a while back that confirmed this course of action. Just thought I should leave a note here explaining. Cheers. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 14:43, 5 October 2016 (UTC)
