Laura Pope Forester

[edit]

Hi! I manage the website and social media for Popes Museum which was the home of Laura Pope Forester. First of all I want to thank you for creating her page on here. We were going to do one and realized she was already here. Just out of curiosity, what made you research her and create her page? Kmb1981 (talk) 18:54, 13 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Thanks for getting in touch! I think I came across her on the 'folk artists' category of the Women in Red project and just thought she sounded incredibly interesting, and deserving of a page! I wanted to add some photos too - I found some good ones of the site on the Library of Congress website - but my computer started playing up. Does the museum have some of Laura herself?! That would be amazing :) Madeleineog (talk) 10:11, 14 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DYK nom

[edit]

Hi Madeleineog! I came across your article on Mary Custis Vezey and nominated it for DYK. Apologies for not coordinating in advance; it was nearing the one-week deadline. Feel free to comment there if you have any thoughts about the hook. Also, if you're willing to sign onto the nomination, that'll negate the need to do a quid-pro-quo, so just make a note of it. Cheers, {{u|Sdkb}}talk 10:29, 13 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Mary Custis Vezey

[edit]

On 2 March 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Mary Custis Vezey, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that poet Mary Custis Vezey, an eleventh-generation American, published much of her work in Russian? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Mary Custis Vezey. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Mary Custis Vezey), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Humanist archives

[edit]

Dear Maddy, nice to meet you this afternoon. I was wondering if your connection to Humanists UK gave you access to the archives of the Freethinker and similar publications? I have been working on an article about a grade II* listed building and I think it quite likely that such publications would have covered some events that took place there nearly 120 years ago. ϢereSpielChequers 17:47, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! How fascinating! There are certainly runs of the Freethinker at Conway Hall and the Bishopsgate Institute (I think Conway Hall's are the more complete). I'm currently involved in a project to digitise the full set, but that will be some time yet. I just did a quick search for key words ('Ark of the Covenant' and 'Agapemonites') in the New Humanist archive (originally the Literary Guide) and there are some mentions there - most notably in 1902 about Smyth-Piggott, which might be of interest? Madeleineog (talk) 11:21, 14 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Maddy, that certainly would be of interest, is there any chance you could email those pages to me? ϢereSpielChequers 20:07, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting

[edit]

Confused by your recent revert of an edit on your fine article Julia Dawson. It is traditional to offer an edit summary on reverts particularly when a recent tweet asked for contribitions from Women in Red members. Can you explain why as it was the basis of getting the article to the main page and I have received thanks for an identical edit mentioning Dawson elsewhere? Victuallers (talk) 11:02, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Victuallers - I have no idea what revert you're talking about?! I haven't made any edits (except to correct my own typo) since creating the page yesterday... Madeleineog (talk) 11:10, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again @Victuallers - I just had a look at the page. I'm honestly baffled. As I say, I certainly haven't removed or reverted any edits, so I don't know how this has happened. Please accept my apologies if I've done something in error! Madeleineog (talk) 11:13, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
this one, I'll restore it. Mistakes happen Victuallers (talk) 11:15, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, and sorry again! I wonder if it had something to do with my computer having shut down yesterday with tabs (including Wiki) still open, and then restarting this morning - approximately at the time it looks like those edits were reverted. But I still don't quite understand how if so. In any case, thanks very much for fixing (and understanding), and many thanks for your edits - that photo is brilliant! Madeleineog (talk) 11:20, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thats OK, see here Victuallers (talk) 11:37, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Brilliant! Thank you so much. I've just seen the comments on the DYK nomination, and have edited the page accordingly (adding double quote marks in place of single ones, and adding the bit about the van's naming into the main text with citation). I didn't know how to note this on the DYK page itself in response to the moderator's comments, but hope you might be able to help out?! With many thanks as always. Madeleineog (talk) 14:46, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Julia Dawson

[edit]

On 23 July 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Julia Dawson, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Julia Dawson's first Clarion Van (pictured) was named for Scottish socialist Caroline Martyn? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Julia Dawson. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Julia Dawson), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Autopatrolled granted

[edit]

Hi Madeleineog, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 14:22, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Anarchism

[edit]

Hi Madeleineog,

I saw your work on articles related to anarchism and wanted to say hello, as I work in the topic area too. If you haven't already, you might want to watch our noticeboard for Wikipedia's coverage of anarchism, which is a great place to ask questions, collaborate, discuss style/structure precedent, and stay informed about content related to anarchism. Take a look for yourself!

And if you're looking for other juicy places to edit, consider expanding a stub, adopting a cleanup category, or participating in one of our current formal discussions.

Feel free to say hi on my talk page and let me know if these links were helpful (or at least interesting). Hope to see you around. czar 10:45, 10 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi there, Madeleineog. I was sorry to see you had deleted the Women in Red template on your user page. As you have written so many really informative articles about women, it seems to me you have been an excellent contributor to the project and could inspire wider participation. Maybe I can persuade you to add it once again and at the same time sign up under "New registrations" on Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/New members, as I don't think you have ever appeared on our membership lists. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 13:35, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks for signing up and welcome to the project. You have wide experience of women's biographies but if you have not already done so, you might find it useful to look at some of our essays, perhaps starting with the Primer. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 06:21, 4 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Amy Garrett Badley

[edit]

Thank you for creating the page for Amy Garrett Badley - I hope you won't mind that I've changed it from Amy Badley, as we have lots of her own personal books in the school library and she always wrote her name in them as either AGB or A Garrett Badley. Could you point me to the letter that identifies her as a Vice President of the National Council for Equal Citizenship? My notes of the Fawcett/Badley correspondence don't include this information, though it is some years since I visited the collection. I wonder if it refers to her involvement with the local, Petersfield group, rather than at a national level?
