Fair use rationale for Image:Logo_blitz07_sm.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Logo_blitz07_sm.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BigrTex 21:49, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Image Tagging for Image:Westmountshield.png
Thanks for uploading Image:Westmountshield.png. However, the copyright tag you've used is deprecated or obsolete, and should not be used. This could be because the tag is inaccurate or misleading, or because it does not adequately specify the copyright status of the image. For a list of copyright tags that are in current use, see the "Public domain", "Free license", and "Fair use" sections of Wikipedia:Image copyright tags.

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Cfmb2.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:Cfmb2.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Hi DerMac. I see you've been working on companies in Montreal. I removed the category from several trade unions that you had tagged. (Such as Teamsters Canada) It would be a pretty big stretch to call them companies! :) Cheers. --Bookandcoffee 23:28, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Gilles Duceppe photo.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Gilles Duceppe photo.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Morgan695 19:57, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Three South Shore malls up for deletion
Place Portobello, Mail Carnaval and Place Desormeaux, articles that I've noticed you've contributed to, have been nominated for deletion due to lack of notability. Please give your input at each one's deletion proposal page: Place Portobello, Mail Carnaval and Place Desormeaux. One solution could be to merge/summarize the information into the respective city where the mall is located, as per WP:NNC, if the mall is not notable enough to merit its own article. Île de la Visitation
Hi, I'm kind of a Wikibreak but thought I'd ask you about the Montreal neighbourhood category you added to Île de la Visitation. I thought the little island was pretty much uninhabited. If there are even a few residents, however, I suppose it qualifies as a neighbourhood. thanks, Shawn
- I actually think the article may be in error, and those few homes are on the island of Montreal island proper, at or near Gouin Blvd, and the actual island "Île de la Visitation" is accessed by a walkway bridge and is all park. It's been a few summers since I've been up there on bike so I cannot be sure. I'd say just leave it as is, including the Neighbourhood category, for now. regards, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 20:27, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Another editor has added the {{prod}}
template to the article Centre Jacques-Cartier, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Hi. Since you've been involved with Quebec navigational templates, I wonder if you'd have an opinion on a decision being made at Template talk:Subdivisions of Quebec about whether to merge regional templates like Template:Nord-du-Québec into the big Quebec template. AfD nomination of Toronto-Montreal rivalry
An editor has nominated Toronto-Montreal rivalry, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Toronto-Montreal rivalry and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 20:59, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Love the cat
For creating the very useful Category:Quebec Anglophone media, and many other Fine Things. cheers, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 20:25, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
- I've been adding Category:Anglo-Quebecers, too. It's such a badly-needed category, IMO. great, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 01:41, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

I have one question for you about Category:Anglo-Quebecers. Clearly, the category includes native born Anglo Quebecers as well those who have moved here and made it their home. Do you agree that it should also include people who were born and (ideally also) raised in Quebec, before relocating elsewhere? That seems to be the way the People from Montreal category is being applied, and I think it should be so with this category, particularly as a way of reflecting the tremendous exodus of Anglo Quebecers that had taken place during the latter part of the 20th century. Please let me know if you disagree, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 04:09, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hi. I don't think Henry Morgentaler can be categorized as an Anglo-Quebecer, given the definition used on the cat page. He was born in Poland and did not move to Montreal until he was a young man, after WWII, meaning that his mother tongue is surely Polish, not English?Shawn in Montreal (talk) 15:09, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Little context in Delta College in Montreal, Quebec
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Delta College in Montreal, Quebec, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Delta College in Montreal, Quebec is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Delta College in Montreal, Quebec, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Is it possible to find some more sources of information on this topic Toronto-Montreal rivalry? It is tagged with a notability tag, and there are currently 31 articles in the scope of wikiproject Canada which are tagged with notability concerns, so I am contacting anyone to see if the quantity of notability concern articles can be reduced, and quality increased. For more help see this note or the article talk page for a current discussion. Kind Regards SriMesh | talk 19:10, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
MontrealNeighbourhoods
My advice: proceed with the utmost caution and consultation. Check the talk pages and raise this. I think we used to have all that stuff in one template and it was impossibly large: it took up half the article space! I'm too tired to find the diffs or recall who editor who broke these down, but it sounds to me like you may be thinking of creating something that had been abandoned just weeks ago? Shawn in Montreal (talk) 03:42, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
- It was User:Joeldl. I think he's the one to ask. Also, as I mentioned on the Template talk page, I don't think the enclaves sub-category is germane to the template. And now, I'm off to bed. cheers, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 03:46, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Category:Quebec communities with important anglophone populations
Hi. Where are you getting your numbers from? For example, according to the Wikipedia article on my hometown DDO, 67% speak English at home, much higher that you listed. All the posted numbers seem low to me. Only 45% anglo in Kirkland? cheers, Shawn in Montreal (talk) 18:37, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Armoiries longueuil.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:Armoiries longueuil.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:14, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Category: Quebec communities with important anglophone populations
You seem to have created the category Quebec communities with important anglophone populations.
Surely, this should be Quebec communities with
- large
- considerable
- substantial, or even
- major
anglophone populations.
As it stands, the word important is a Gallicism. This should be corrected. - Basking in the sun (talk) 14:35, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:2580 graphics QC.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:2580 graphics QC.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.
Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 22:06, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Chateauguay shield.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Chateauguay shield.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
The following images also have this problem:

{{Montreal-geo-stub}}, {{Montreal-stub}}
Hi - I see you have recently created one or more new stub types. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types are proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. This is partly in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies, and partly so that those who regularly deal with stub articles know what stub types are likely to need re-sorting soon. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any rationale for this stub type. And please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first! Grutness...wha? 02:35, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
Montreal Wikiproject
Long overdue. Thanks for starting this. I have often wondered why there was no such project, so I am happy to see one started. I hope you don't mind, but I made a few minor contributions to the Wikiproject page -- hopefully they aren't a problem. Skeezix1000 (talk) 20:54, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
Just a suggestion...while this certainly strikes me as a good idea for a category, I think some people might mistake it for an WP:OCAT violation as the current name sounds like it's based on a subjective or arbitrary inclusion guideline. Since the obvious inclusion standard for it would almost certainly be those communities which are designated for bilingual government services under the French Language Services Act, do you think maybe a name like Category:French language service communities in Ontario, or something along those lines, might be better? Bearcat (talk) 22:04, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
- It's 10 per cent or 5K. Which is more or less equivalent to the size standard that was being used for the Quebec category anyway :-) Bearcat (talk) 02:40, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice
Hi,
As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.
We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.
You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.
We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Speedy deletion of Delmar International
A tag has been placed on Delmar International requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. "Official" logo at Greater Montreal
This logo is from montreal.com. What organization are you claiming made the logo official? Joeldl (talk) 11:03, 31 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hi. Thanks, I didn't know about this logo. (I actually quite like it, but I'll bet it will eventually be used mostly with different shades of a single colour.) A couple of things though:
1. The MMC still has its own logo, which can be seen on the French Wikipedia page for the MMC. Perhaps both should be included in the Wikipedia article on Greater Montreal, and something said to distinguish the ways they're used.
2. On all of the pages I've seen that feature the logo, it has an accent over the e in Montreal, even in its English version. Where did you get the version without an accent? Joeldl (talk) 01:44, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
Image copyright problem with File:Buzzmascot.gif
Thanks for uploading File:Buzzmascot.gif.

AfD nomination of Saint Urbain Street
I have nominated Saint Urbain Street, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Saint Urbain Street. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Viger Station and Hotel - Place Viger
Hi. I don't mean to cause offence, but I moved this back to Place Viger. I'm not entirely sure that "Viger Station and Hotel" is more descriptive or not, but even if it were, the purpose of an article title is not to provide additional details on the article subject. Unless I have missed something (and maybe I have), I have never seen the building referred to as "Viger Station and Hotel" -- even the old English-language stuff referred to it as Place Viger. Today, the city calls it Édifice Jacques Viger, and I guess that would be a candidate for article title (or the Jacques Viger Building, if we can find sources showing that is a widely used and recognized name in English). But Viger Station and Hotel? Feel free to disagree with me and raise the issue on the talk page. Let me know if I have missed some key fact. Regards, --Skeezix1000 (talk) 20:05, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- I moved it to Viger Station and Hotel for a few reasons. The first being that both the French wiki and the city of Montreal refer to Place Viger as Gare-hôtel Viger, and I did think that Viger Station and Hotel is the best translation of that. However, I also have heard the term Château Viger used by what seem to be the property's current owners, and I like the ring of that better than simply Place Viger. In retrospect Viger Station and Hotel was probably not the best choice of page name, I actually like Chateau Viger the best (especially when considering that is was built by the same architect who built the Chateau Frontenac). It seems as though this building has no real official name, but instead has multiple names that are used, Place Viger being one of them, so I have no problem with the status quo. MTLskyline (talk) 21:07, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
- You've hit the nail on the head - the building has had (and has) various names. That's the problem. Personally, I have no strong preference, but do think that we need to step back a bit. What is the status of the redevelopment proposal? Any idea? Whatever name they start marketing it under would probably end up deciding it. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 14:26, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

using Advisor.js
Hi. I noticed in this edit in the Stephen Harper article, you did a text substitution, using "Advisor.js". There was just one small problem, that it inadvertantly changed the name of a link to an image, creating a redlink. I wandered if the script you used can be made to leave links to images (or articles) alone. --Rob (talk) 06:31, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for reverting the edit. I brought up the issue with the script's creator on the script's talk page.

Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld
I have reverted the revert you made to Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld. The information is legitimate, as bizarre as it may sound. But that's Red Eye for you. No, I haven't found a ref source yet (aside from watching the showm where it's pretty obvious). - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 13:57, 4 April 2009 (UTC)
- Never seen the show so I'll take your word for it. MTLskyline (talk) 04:20, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image (Image:TMX-logo.gif)
Thanks for uploading Image:TMX-logo.gif. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 01:02, 8 April 2009 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Dooly's
A tag has been placed on Dooly's requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Montreal Trudeau
I have provided a link to the story when Aeroports de Montreal have done a recount of passengers to come to an estimate of 12.8 million. The original number of 12.3 was not correct do to the fact that the airport was not counting non revenue passengers. EX. Passenger A is traveling from Vancouver to Montreal to later get on a flight from Montreal to Paris he would only get counted as one passenger instead of counted twice.
Speedy deletion of File:Ca-qclmb.gif
A tag has been placed on File:Ca-qclmb.gif requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}

Ugh! Just when you thought it was okay to get out of bed in the morning! I took a chance with that one with the info that I had. I'll redo it when I have a moment though.
