Your username

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created Lucas Industries, and I noticed that your username, "Lucas Automotive", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually (not your role), such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. Alternatively, you can just create a new account and use that for editing. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Hello Lucas Automotive. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Lucas Industries, gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being employed (or being compensated in any way) by a person, group, company or organization to promote their interests. Paid advocacy on Wikipedia must be disclosed even if you have not specifically been asked to edit Wikipedia. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Lucas Automotive. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Lucas Automotive|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. 🔄️TryAgainSooner🕑 🗣️ 16:21, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because it has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must follow all these steps:

  1. Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  2. Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  3. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  4. Provide a new username.

To do this, insert the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can search to see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is still available.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Secretlondon (talk) 17:01, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

I apologise for creating an account under a business name, as I was unaware that this violated Wikipedia's username policy. I now understand that Wikipedia requires usernames to be associated with individuals, not businesses, to maintain neutrality and transparency on the platform. I am committed to following Wikipedia's guidelines and am willing to create a new account under a personal name to comply with this rule. I respectfully request an opportunity to appeal this ban so I can contribute constructively to Wikipedia in the future. Thank you for considering my request.

Decline reason:

This seems to indicate you think your username was the main problem here. Not at all, it was only one small part of the problem. What about your violations of WP:COI? Of WP:PROMO? Yamla (talk) 21:04, 29 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Yamla,
Thank you for your feedback regarding our account. I’d like to clarify our situation and confirm our understanding of Wikipedia’s policies on usernames, paid contributions, and conflict of interest editing.
As a Lucas Automotive employee, I am responsible for updating the Wikipedia entry on Lucas Industries to ensure it remains accurate and informative. Recognizing that these contributions represent Lucas Automotive, we are fully committed to transparency regarding our role and to aligning with Wikipedia’s guidelines.
To meet Wikipedia’s requirements, we have requested a username change to “Noemi at Lucas Automotive,” which will clearly indicate our affiliation.
To ensure neutrality, we are currently reviewing and rewriting any sections of the draft that may reflect unintended bias. Moving forward, we will use the edit request process on article talk pages for all proposed updates, allowing neutral editors to review our contributions. This approach will help maintain Wikipedia's standards of neutrality and verifiability.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to help. Thank you for your guidance, and we look forward to supporting the accuracy and clarity of information on Wikipedia in a responsible and compliant manner.
Best regards,
Noemi at Lucas Automotive (pending username change) Lucas Automotive (talk) 17:17, 4 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Yamla,
I hope you are well.
Do you have any update on the above appeal?
Best regards,
Noemi Lucas Automotive (talk) 17:07, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I have already reviewed one of your unblock requests. A different admin will review any future request. But you haven't made an unblock request yet! See WP:GAB to understand how to do so. Note that it looks like your only goal is to write about Lucas Automative. That's a non-starter. If that's your only goal, this is the end of the line. --Yamla (talk) 17:09, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies, please ignore original appeal request - I wasn't logged in when posting appeal. See new and relevant appeal below. Thanks!
Hi,
I hope you’re doing well.
I wanted to reach out to make sure we’re aligned on Wikipedia’s guidelines around usernames, paid contributions and conflict of interest editing.
As part of my role at Lucas Automotive, I’m responsible for maintaining the Wikipedia page for Lucas Industries to ensure it stays accurate. Since these updates are directly related to our company, we’re committed to full transparency and adhering to Wikipedia’s rules.
To help make our affiliation clear, we’ve requested a username change to "Noemi at Lucas Automotive." We also want to make sure the content we contribute is neutral, so we’re reviewing the draft to remove any unintended bias. Moving forward, we’ll propose changes via the article’s talk page, where neutral editors can review them before anything is updated.
If there’s anything else I can do or any advice you have, feel free to let me know.
Thanks so much for your help and I hope you can understand this appeal. Lucas Automotive (talk) 14:28, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I would highly suggest that you read WP:BOSS, and have your superiors read it too. You will need to formally declare as a paid editor per the Terms of Use. You also seem to be suggesting- despite what Yamla said above- that your only interest here is in editing about your company. Our experience is that this is a waste of time for everyone(including the editor) unless the editors first builds up experience and knowledge of relevant Wikipedia policies by first editing in areas for which they have no conflict of interest. I'm unwilling to unblock you unless you are interested in being a more general contributor. Maybe someone else will feel differently, but I don't think so. 331dot (talk) 15:09, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I have deleted your duplicate unblock request that you posted while logged out. I have also moved your new unblock request to the bottom of this talk page. Please put new talk page postings at the bottom of the page to preserve the correct chronological order of discussions. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 14:47, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I’ve reviewed your response 331dot and the WP:BOSS policy, and I want to clarify my intentions. I understand that my role creates a conflict of interest, and I have no intention of editing the article directly. I’m prepared to declare my paid editing status as required by the Terms of Use. My sole aim is to provide accurate, up-to-date and neutral information about the company in line with Wikipedia’s standards. I’m not here to advertise or self-promote, and don't appreciate the hostility from yourself and other appeal reviewers. I’d like to move forward on this basis. If you have specific objections or suggestions beyond this, please let me know. Lucas Automotive (talk)

I have no "hostility" towards you, I'm simply informing you of things based on my experience and observations. As I said, my experience is that many in your position- who say the exact same things as you- actually don't do as they say they will do.
Wikipedia isn't interested in what article subjects say about themselves, and many company reps just want to write about the activities and offerings of their company, not significant coverage in independent reliable sources. It's usually very difficult for company reps to set aside what they know about the company, and all materials it puts out (interviews, press releases, announcements of activities) and only summarize what others say about the company. Are you the rare one that can do so? Maybe, but most of us want to see evidence of that first, by edits in other areas first.
You may make a new request, placed below, for someone else to review. Any decision will be up to the next reviewer in consultation with the blocking admin, not me. Best wishes. 331dot (talk) 16:54, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

I am disclosing my employment with Lucas Automotive, as required by Wikipedia’s Terms of Use, in relation to any edits or proposals I make about topics related to the company.

My ONE AND ONLY goal is to improve the accuracy, relevance and neutrality of the Lucas Industries article. Lucas Automotive (talk) 17:25, 4 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Dear Wikipedia Team, I’m Noemi Sanz and I work at Lucas Automotive. I’m writing to appeal my ban from editing, which happened after my first update to the Lucas Automotive entry. Since then, I’ve disclosed my role as a paid contributor and want to ensure the page stays accurate, neutral, and up-to-date.

My aim is not to promote but to share factual updates about our company’s history and developments. I respect Wikipedia’s mission and would appreciate a chance to contribute responsibly. Please let me know if there’s any way to address concerns and regain editing privileges.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Pleaase log in and make your request again. That being said, your cut-and-pastes and close paraphrases from http://www.lucasfamily.uk and https://britishcarcouncil.ca/joseph-lucas-history/ will never be acceptable, for reasons including copyright violation and reliable sourcing. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 17:45, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This request was made by an IP. Please log in to confirm that you made it. Also note that Wikipedia is primarily interested in what independent reliable sources say about a topic, not what it says about itself. This isn't the place for your company to tell the world about what it considers to be its own history and its products and offerings, that in and of itself is promotional here(see WP:YESPROMO). Wikipedia wants to know what others say is the history of your company, which is usually very difficult for a company representative to provide as they have great difficulty setting aside their knowledge of the company. Someone else will review your request upon your confirmation you wrote the above. 331dot (talk) 17:13, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi 331dot, apologies for making the block request without being logged in - I can confirm that was me. Lucas Automotive (talk)

Okay. Someone else has declined it- please see their message. 331dot (talk) 13:10, 16 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Thank you for your thorough review and explanation of the block on our editing activities. We understand and acknowledge the concerns raised, particularly the importance of avoiding close paraphrasing and copyright issues. We would like to address the specific points mentioned in your response:

Copyright Concerns: While the content on the websites you referenced (e.g., lucasfamily.uk and britishcarcouncil.ca) has similarities to the edits made, much of the historical information presented there actually originates from Lucas Automotive’s own materials, including the Lucas timeline (https://www.lucasautomotive.com/en/about-us/), which I was directly involved in creating. The britishcarcouncil.ca site, in particular, heavily cites Lucas Automotive’s official resources. This relationship suggests that the content overlaps because we are the source, rather than due to independent copying on our part.

Close Paraphrasing: We acknowledge the importance of presenting information in a neutral and original tone. To avoid any issues, we are committed to thoroughly revising and rewriting our contributions to ensure compliance with Wikipedia's content guidelines and to eliminate any resemblance to external sources.

Willingness to Collaborate: To build consensus and ensure neutrality, we are happy to work within the structure of the existing Lucas Industries article, contributing to its improvement rather than proposing a full rewrite. This collaborative approach will focus on expanding and refining the article in areas where we have unique insights and verified historical knowledge as an employee, without introducing bias.

I believe my position within the company allows me to provide factual, well-informed updates, which can be reviewed and discussed transparently by the Wikipedia community.
