Quotes within citations

[edit]

Hi Lofi Gurl and thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that you have been including quotations from your sources as part of some of your citations. While doing so is allowed, in my opinion providing quotations from your citations is not necessary unless the material has been challenged or is likely to be challenged, especially if the source is not readily available online. Also, most quotations will generate a false positive report at CopyPatrol, which creates extra work for the people who assess those cases. There's been at least 8 recent ones from your work in the last day or two, which is where I noticed them.--Diannaa (talk) 20:14, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for bring this up with me, I guess I can omit or shorten them. I thought the quotes themselves were interesting and wanted to share them while recounting them in my own words in the article. Lofi Gurl (talk) 20:17, 24 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Off-label use of {{wikinews}}

[edit]

I noticed you are dropping a lot of {{wikinews}} template news items into the middles of articles. You seem to misunderstand the purpose of this template, viz: external links at the end of the article. It is never used to to add references to support the text of an article. Prominent in the template description is:

☒N Do not place this template in the main body of the article.

Using this template to add references in the body of the article isn't how the template works. And your usage is almost always duplicative of the already-present referenced text so it wouldn't be an improvement anyway.

I removed the most recent few of these edits. Please go back through your history and remove the rest. -- M.boli (talk) 15:17, 7 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough, but please understand I wasn't using these as citations. I know Wikinews isn't an acceptable source here. I just placed them wrong. Thank you for directing me to put these in the External Links section instead. I did this with the intention of encouraging people to contribute to Wikinews. Slam death metal and nu metal

[edit]

Hi, with this edit, you added the phrase that slam metal borrows "bounce and groove" from nu metal, citing the book Death Metal by T Coles. I can't access this book, and was wondering if you could share the quote from this book where this is mentioned. I'm just a bit skeptical since slam was pioneered around 1991, while nu metal didn't begin until around 93-94. Issan Sumisu (talk) 09:42, 2 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Added quote. Sorry, I guess I made it confusing on my first attempt. How does it look now? I guess "borrow" was the wrong word, I just used it to avoid possible copyvio. Thanks for making inquiries! Lofi Gurl (talk) 16:18, 2 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]
