Welcome to Wikipedia and Wikiproject Medicine

Welcome to Wikipedia from Wikiproject Medicine (also known as WPMED).

We're a group of editors who strive to improve the quality of content about health here on Wikipedia, as part of the larger mission of Wikipedia to provide the public with articles that present accepted knowledge, created and maintained by a community of editors.

One of our members has noticed that you are interested in editing medical articles; it's great to have a new interested editor on board!

First, some basics about editing Wikipedia, which is a strange place behind the scenes; you may find some of the ways we operate to be surprising. Please take your time and understand how this place works. Here are some useful links, which have information to help editors get the most out of Wikipedia:

  • Everything starts with the mission - the mission of Wikipedia is to provide the public with articles that summarize accepted knowledge, working in a community of editors. (see WP:NOT)
  • We find "accepted knowledge" for biomedical information in sources defined by WP:MEDRS -- we generally use literature reviews published in good journals or statements by major medical or scientific bodies and we generally avoid using research papers, editorials, and popular media as sources for such content. We read MEDRS sources and summarize them, giving the most space and emphasis (what we call WP:WEIGHT) to the most prevalent views found in MEDRS sources.
  • Please see WPMED's "how to" guide for editing content about health
  • More generally please see The five pillars of Wikipedia and please be aware of the "policies and guidelines" that govern what we do here; these have been generated by the community itself over the last fifteen years, and you will need to learn them (which is not too hard, it just takes some time). Documents about Wikipedia - the "back office" - reside in "Wikipedia space" where document titles are preceded by "Wikipedia:" (often abbreviated "WP:"). WP space is separate from "article space" (also called "mainspace") - the document at WP:CONSENSUS is different from, and serves as a different purpose than, the document at Consensus.

Every article and page in Wikipedia has an associated talk page, and these pages are essential because we editors use them to collaborate and work out disagreements. (This is your Talk page, associated with your user page.) When you use a Talk page, you should sign your name by typing four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comment; the Wikipedia software will automatically convert that into links to your Userpage and this page and will add a datestamp. This is how we know who said what. We also "thread" comments in a way that you will learn with time. Please see the Talk Page Guidelines to learn how to use talk pages.

  • Thanks for coming aboard! We always appreciate a new editor. Feel free to leave us a message at any time on our talk page. If you are interested in joining the project yourself, there is a participant list where you can sign up. You can also just add our talk page to your watchlist and join in discussions that interest you. Please leave a message on the WPMED talk page if you have any problems, suggestions, would like review of an article, need suggestions for articles to edit, or would like some collaboration when editing!
  • The Wikipedia community includes a wide variety of editors with different interests, skills, and knowledge. We all manage to get along through a lot of discussion that happens under the scenes and through the bold, edit, discuss editing cycle. If you encounter any problems, you can discuss it on an article's talk page or post a message on the WPMED talk page.

Feel free to drop a note below if you have any questions or problems. I wish you all the best here in Wikipedia! Jytdog (talk) 22:02, 22 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Username

[edit]

Again, welcome! You need to fix your username, as it violates our WP:USERNAME policy, as it a generic role in an organization; Wikipedia accounts are personal. Please go to here and request a rename. Something like: Robert_EUMedcomm would be fine, or any additional element that would make it personal, if you don't want to use your first or last name -- something like "Flipper_EUMedcomm" would be fine too. Fixing your username isn't optional - this account will be "soft blocked" if you don't change it. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 22:14, 22 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome

[edit]

Welcome. Feel free to leave me messages on my talk page or email me. There are a number of us who would be happy to run through the processes for editing Wikipedia if you need further help. Best Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 14:06, 23 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

EMA and wiki

[edit]

Please let your web-ICT persons read our {{Infobox drug}} (talk)! (and maybe even create their own wiki account). When we have serious contact, we might create a WikiData setup (definitions & process) that updates all wikis etc. (Then enwiki will just reads). -DePiep (talk) 23:11, 7 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Text

You added

"should undergo pregnancy testing before starting treatment and the medicine should not be used during the first trimester of pregnancy unless there is no alternative"

ref says

"should undergo pregnancy testing before starting treatment and the medicine should not be used during the first trimester of pregnancy unless there is no alternative."

We need to be careful about copy right infringement issues. Please remember to paraphrase going forwards. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 14:38, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Okay I see you work there. We are happy with the use of the cite as a source. But it says "© 1995-2019 European Medicines Agency European Union agencies network An agency of the European Union"
Do you have the ability to release their content under an open license? If you would place "CC BY SA 4.0 IGO" at the bottom of the EMA.europa.eu pages than that would solve the issue. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 14:40, 16 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
We have the following on our website: "Information and documents made available on the Agency's webpages are public and may be reproduced and/or distributed, totally or in part, irrespective of the means and/or the formats used, for non-commercial and commercial purposes, provided that the Agency is always acknowledged as the source of the material. Such acknowledgement must be included in each copy of the material." Is this acceptable for you? We are very keen to use the same wording as we do on the website, because this is what has been checked and adopted by the EMA committees. I'm not sure if it will be possible to make the change you request. But I hope the above may resolve the issue? Our content is reproduced word for word by national agencies in all EU countries/patient and healthcare organisations etc on this basis.Libby EMAcomm (talk) 07:20, 17 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Emer Cooke

[edit]

Thankyou for edit requests at Emer Cooke. At first glance, and I stress first glance, they seem reasonable. I recall creating this article and apologise for any mistakes I made. I am totally stretched for bandwith at the moment but may look at doing some of it. There is then a risk someone else may leave me to do the rest. Some changes may require sources. I may take look at doing something. I may simply go off to bed. But feel free to ping me again if your getting ignored as its a BLP and I created it. Thankyou. I Apologise for lying and misrepresenting myself at the creator. I did not create the article but moved it from draft space to main space and probably added some content and boilerplating. I needed to correct that claim immediately. Thankyou.Djm-leighpark (talk) 23:05, 17 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your time and effort in reviewing the request and making the changes to make the career section factually correct. This is much appreciated.Libby EMAcomm (talk) 13:21, 18 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
