Album review formatting
[edit]Hi there. Regarding this change, note that:
- only the year should be used as the review link,
- the number of reviews should be limited to ten, and that
- reviews that don't use stars shouldn't be shown with stars,
per WP:ALBUM#Professional reviews. Can I ask you to undo your change? (I'm trying to avoid reverting that article more than three times a day.) --PEJL 14:26, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use Image:Looptroopy.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Looptroopy.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. High on a tree 01:31, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Looptroopy.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Looptroopy.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 14:53, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Coolcalmpetelost.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Coolcalmpetelost.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. [edit]I made the references using an excel spreadsheet. I then used mail merge in word to transpose the data into the relevant cite episode or cite web template and then copied and pasted them over. I've done the same thing for Carnivale, Lost and The Wire. Good job on the additions. However you've restored some of the hyperbole/weasel wording to the lead particularly the "widely regarded" phrase in terms of the show's influence. I believe that will get tagged as point of view if we go to FAC.--Opark 77 10:43, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

The Wire infoboxes and images
[edit]Thanks for your work on the new season specific infoboxes. The inconsistency of some pages having them while other don't at the moment bothers me but I'm sure you're getting around to putting it on each page. I've put some suggested images up on the S5 episode pages - all are on HBOs website already but I'm unsure about using them when the articles are still so short.--Opark 77 (talk) 17:40, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
- Glad to hear it :) .--Opark 77 (talk) 17:46, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
- I'd really rather you didn't. I've spent hours working on those listings and indentifying which actor plays which part in an episode as far as possible. This is one of the only places on the web where this information is comprehensively available and it is difficult to determine because the credits are sometimes unreliable and never give details on who played whom. If you feel it looks poor in the infobox why not leave the section in the body article and I will rewrite them eventually as I have done for the pilot episode.--Opark 77 (talk) 17:55, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you for accomodating me :). That looks ok for now. How about once I've done the rewrites I'll put the credited guest stars into the infobox without listing the characters? I do like the epigraph its cool to have it up top and prominent. I have one request - any chance we could make the new infoboxes correspond in colour with the episode list (and by extension the DVD covers) to aid visual association in the reader?--Opark 77 (talk) 18:06, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Sorry I wasn't able to devote more time to The Sopranos article but real life has been busy and I'm a bit too hyped about the forthcoming series of The Wire to think about much else when I do have free time! I'd still like to get it done one day. I've just been given the new making of book as a gift so there's even more source material to use now. Let me know if you decide on a specific episode to work on and I'll try and help where I can.--Opark 77 (talk) 17:46, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Daniel Dumile, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Speedy deletion of Image:Snapshot20080222144344.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on Image:Snapshot20080222144344.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[Talk:Image:Snapshot20080222144344.jpg|the article's talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. –FunkyVoltron talk 13:43, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
The Sopranos: Guest Stars
[edit]I find you moving the guest stars into the infobox. It's both very unhelpful and non-resourceful, as we cannot see what actor plays what character. If you can figure out a way to also add the characters in the infobox, we can leave it there. If not, please cite where the Wikipedia Standards say it needs to be in the infobox, or else your adjustments will be reversed. Thank you. Geeky Randy (talk) 01:18, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for your response. However, I still don't see any indication in the infobox of what actor plays what characters. Again, this is something that has been very resourceful in the past and I believe the guest starring section should stay unless you're willing to insert characters and their links to the infobox similar to the section you've deleted. Unless what you're doing is a Wiki Stardard and/or it's been discussed by other contributors in the discussion section, it needs to be moved back. Let me know. Thank you very much. 75.92.222.49 (talk) 19:23, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

The Wire finale
[edit]Please stop posting spoilers about The Wire finale in the infoboxes of the character articles. The episode has not been oficially released and doing so is a copyright violation that could seriously harm wikipedia.--Opark 77 (talk) 08:11, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
I have seen it and really enjoyed it. I'm happy to discuss it over on the IMDb message board (there are a few threads there already) or somewhere else if you like.
Getting a head start is prepping the stuff in your sandbox, this way is not cool with me and its not cool with consensus here. I actually don't think character's fates should be in the infobox unless it is actually the cause of them leaving. In the case of everyone alive at the end of the finale they would have been in the series had it continued so the cause is the end of the series and their storyline ending is incidental and should be in the character biography. I don't feel very strongly about it though but I think we should open a discussion before restoring that stuff - perhaps WP:TV is the best place. In particular some of the newsroom stuff you wrote was just plain wrong as noted in the thread I linked to.--Opark 77 (talk) 16:03, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Hey,
I'm sorry to keep reverting, but I'm really trying to format it to be a featured list. The template uses DirectedBy and WrittenBy fields, so it's advisable to use them. The reason why I chose black for the first season and not the second is the first season DVD box set color is black. Example- List of Lost episodes. Also, it's fine to list DVD disks, like Lost episodes or List of Seinfeld episodes. I've kept your lead changes. Sorry to revert without properly explaining though. Happy editing. -- Wikipedical (talk) 19:40, 29 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for the note and good work on the article. I think the facts are there and it is mostly a matter of copy editing for now. I've made some suggestions but only managed to thoroughly read the first section and a half of the article.--Opark 77 (talk) 22:16, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
Final Fantasy VII
[edit]Your edits to this article are actually quite reasonable, but the fact that it being the most influential and greatest video game ever needs at least 3 sources from different publications (e.g. IGN, GameSpot and 1UP.com). Top 100 video games lists could be used, but FF7 needs to be within the top positions. This would also have to be added in the body of the article. If you're able to find such information, it can be added back in. The Prince (talk) 15:15, 28 November 2008 (UTC)
- Nevermind. I just realised the content was already in the body. But you still need to provide sources for it being the most influential game of all time. The Prince (talk) 15:27, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Made in America FAC / The Wire
[edit]Thanks for the note on my talk page and sorry for being a bit slow to get involved. I think the article still needs some work at the moment. I've spent some time making some of the changes I thought were necessary this evening.
Also I notice you suggested an overhaul of the plot section for The Wire over at Talk: The Wire - could you be more specific about what you think is needed?--Opark 77 (talk) 04:58, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Mins./Minutes
[edit]Please do not change "minutes" in film article infoboxes to "mins." or "min." There's absolutely no reason to use an abbreviation where the full word fits confortably. Thanks. Ed Fitzgerald t / c 02:33, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

why'd you remove this?
[edit]Why did you add a line and remove several in this infobox? You didn't use an edit summary, so I couldn't tell why. (replying here is fine- I'll watch your talk page for a while) tedder (talk) 19:13, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
- Awards are deprecated and I think it's common practice to include occupation.
- Gotcha. I didn't know the awards were deprecated. (the addition wasn't a concern, I just didn't know the reason for the removal.) tedder (talk) 07:06, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Deadwood
[edit]I think it is commonly accepted that showrunners have final rewrite on every episode, and most get paid handsomely to do this without credit (apart from Aaron Sorkin who always too a credit on The West Wing), adding Milch's name and (uncredited) is a clumsy way of putting this across. It would be easier to simply state that he rewrote every episode as the top of the episode list, and give the source for that there. To list him 30-something times and have the same ref without an explanation doesn't seem a very encyclopaedic way of doing things. Darrenhusted (talk) 19:22, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
"Source material first"

Film running times
[edit]Please stop adding running times for various special editions, directors cuts, etc. to infoboxes of articles about films. The infobox is only meant to cover details of the original (theatrical) version of the film, not later special editions. Details on later versions of the film belong in a separate section about those versions. Some films have been released in many different versions over the years; the infobox is meant to be a simple summary of details about the original film and is not equipped to cram in details on every later revision of the film. See Template:Infobox Film and MOS:FILM for more guidance on using the infobox and providing details on special editions. Your edit to Alien (film) was particularly unhelpful, as it removed a reference containing specific details about the film's running time. Thank you. --IllaZilla (talk) 13:34, 14 July 2009 (UTC)

It Takes a Nation of Millions...
[edit]Are you still interested in trying to get the It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back article to GA/FA status? If so, I'd like to work on it with you. The album is definitely one of the most important released in the past twenty-five years and should have an article reflecting so. Let me know! WikiGuy86 (talk) 09:04, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
- Cool! I've got a book called Check the Technique that I think is supposed to be an expanded version of Rakim Told Me, so it might have the same information in it. In the meantime, I'll work on the tracklist, chart success, etc. in my sandbox until you're ready. Let me know any websites with good info on the album. WikiGuy86 (talk) 17:39, 9 October 2009 (UTC)
The Blue Comet
[edit]Thank you for your message, appropriate links and your work on the article. Is there any way to add the character's name to the guest starring list in the infobox? The reason I dislike the guest stars in the infobox is only because I can't see which actor played which character. To me, it's seem very unencyclopedic and unresourceful. If there's a way to do this without looking tacky, I'd be happy to do that to the other Sopranos Episode articles. Thanks again. Geeky Randy (talk) 04:19, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
The Blue Comet 11/13/2009
[edit]You deleted the characters that the guest stars played and said, "Keep it like this now." I thought we agreed that we can specify what actor plays what character, as long as it's kept in the infobox. You yourself showed me an example of how this is done. Why did you change this? Geeky Randy (talk) 19:47, 13 November 2009 (UTC)
- I'm happy to help you expand, but then again I also don't want to interfere. I just think that having guest stars without their characters being listed (not to mention no links to the characters) is extremely unencyclopedic, and in that case useless. Just give me the thumbs up and I'll adjust the guest stars in the infobox to be a lot like "The Stolen Earth" article. Geeky Randy (talk) 23:02, 14 November 2009 (UTC)
"The Sopranos" Template
[edit]The primary characters are based on billing/contract. Specifically, the characters who appear under "primary" are credited for every episode (opening sequence) even if they don't appear in the episode. It's a seasonal contract. This is based on fact, not opinion. IMDb is a decent source, but you'll have to watch several episodes to be precise. If we were to do it based on episode and/or season count, we'd have debates over who deserves to be in the primary section. It'd be based on opinions of whoever is editing the template. So, I intend to keep the primary characters those who were entitled to be credited in every episode despite not appearing in it, again because it's based on contract which is fact not opinion. Look at several other wiki television articles (The Shield, West Wing), they base it off the same thing to avoid editing wars. You've been very helpful with editing episodes, so I trust that if you think I'm wrong you're probably right. If there's a WP that contradicts my point, please let me know. Thank you. Geeky Randy (talk) 05:40, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Funkyvoltron! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 2 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Writing in film infobox
[edit]What are the "new guidelines" that you are referring to? There's never been a consensus about the specifics of displaying writers' names in that particular field. Erik (talk) 15:04, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
- It's here, "writer" section. Forgive me, I thought a consensus had been reached in the matter and that the parameters reflected this. Shall we keep them for now?–FunkyVoltron talk 15:08, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
- Either way, I think that's a good as any way of displaying writers, so let's stick with it unless someone opposes it?–FunkyVoltron talk 15:10, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
- You can comment here so discussion is centralized. I reviewed the history of the documentation, and it appears that MikeAllen made this edit. I don't think he's completely wrong with the update, but it has usually been these two approaches (with some variations). However, one issue with having "Story" or "Screenplay" in parentheses below names is that it does not follow the line of view. If a person reads the name, they don't know how that person was credited until they look at the next line. In contrast, "Story" or "Screenplay" above the names is a lead-in to understanding specifically who wrote what. Erik (talk) 15:14, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
