A tag has been placed on Calculus One requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The article Russell Blake (author) has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Book articles

[edit]

First off, let me give you a huge and I mean HUGE THANK YOU for helping out with the requested articles. I've been tackling the book requests for a while now and there aren't many others who do this, so I can't tell you how awesome it is that you're helping out. I do see that you're actively enrolled in school, so I hope that you get the time to come back and edit soon.

Anywho, I wanted to give you a few pointers here and there about editing.

One of the biggest recommendations I can give is that it's a good idea to start writing articles in your userspace rather than in the mainspace. By this I mean that you'd start creating articles in your sandbox (which is yours alone and will not automatically empty itself) or in your userspace at places like User:KNivedat/The Disappearing Spoon. The problem about starting articles in the mainspace is that you have to source them right away since they can and frequently will be subject to deletion, as you can see from the other messages in the page. Creating the pages in your userspace will give you more time to flesh them out before you move them to the mainspace, which is extremely handy when you don't have a lot of time to really start working on an article. It's what I tend to do when I'm creating new articles and I've found it extremely helpful since I can move them to the mainspace when I'm done.

The second thing is sourcing. I noticed that at The Disappearing Spoon you used Amazon as a source. This was probably meant as a temporary measure since you likely planned on pulling basic information from the site (something I do on occasion), but the problem is that merchant sites cannot be placed on articles as a source. The reason for this is that putting a merchant link on a page can come across as an endorsement of either the site or the product, which can make people question the page's neutrality. I know that this is intentional, but we've had people question this in the past with various different sites so it's something to be careful about. I do like that you tried to put sources on the page before leaving the article, though- that's a good move. However it's better to leave things like reviews in newspapers and the like since those can be seen as a reliable source and won't make people question the page's notability.

The other thing about creating pages, and why it's important to create them in the userspace first, is that leaving an unfinished page brings up questions of notability. I'd briefly mentioned this above, but I wanted to go into a little more explanation about this. When a new page is created it will show up on a new page log, which is monitored by various different people. If they notice that a page is unfinished or looks to have issues with notability, they will nominate the page for deletion and/or try to improve the page. Not everyone will automatically try to improve the page, especially if the topic is one where it's difficult to find sources. You have to assume that you will be the only person to edit and improve the page, so when you leave a page in the mainspace you need to make sure that the sourcing is strong enough to survive deletion via WP:AfD, WP:SPEEDY, or WP:PROD. Creating an unfinished stub runs the risk of creating a lot of work for others, which can look bad if you're creating a lot of stub articles and don't return to improve all of them. I know that this sounds petty and ideally everyone would be willing to pitch in and finish the article before nominating it for deletion, but this isn't always the case. Luckily you've had a lot of editors step in and help out, so this hasn't been an issue so far but I do need to warn you about this since I've seen several articles go up for deletion despite there being plentiful reliable sources on the Internet. It's frustrating and I wish it wasn't like this, but it's something to be careful about.

Hopefully none of this scares you off and again, I'm really, really glad to see that you've been trying to tackle some of the articles on the various request pages. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:15, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Tokyogirl79! Sorry for the late response. I did come onto Wikipedia in the middle a few times - but for some reason this message slipped through my net... Sorry about that! Thanks for the tip on creating articles in namespace - I'll try doing that from now. The only reason I add empty articles and THEN add content is because I'm using the VisualEditor by Wikipedia - editing the source is really, really confusing, and using the Visual Editor makes life easier, overall. However, you cannot START writing an article in VisualEditor, so I generally (used) to create empty articles and THEN edit them... I didn't know that was a wrong thing to do... Now that I think of it, the rule does seem reasonable... I just wish that we could even use Visual editors in talk pages! I mean I had to click on "edit source" to type this message to you... I'm not really sure how to mention someone else in a conversation - I hope I did it right.... A simple "reply" button would make stuff easier... Anyways, I'm not complaining...
Thanks for your kind words!!! (BTW, I won't be writing in books for the next few days - many famous places near me have no Wikipedia pages.. I plan on creating those first, and develop existing ones) KNivedat (talk) 13:34, 20 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yikes, you have my admiration for tackling articles with VisualEditor. I usually end up doing it the old fashioned way because that's what I'm used to. In any case, there are a lot of areas that need articles - I know that this is the case with a lot of places near me as well! Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 03:17, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hello KNivedat, and thanks for using VisualEditor :) I'm interested in finding out what you mean by "you cannot START writing an article in VisualEditor". Last time I checked, you could do that indeed, although it may be not immediate. Can you tell me what's your current way to start an article? Where do you go, what do you click/type, etc.? Thank you :) --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 15:24, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Elitre (WMF)! I generally search for the article in the wiki-search box on the top left to see if an article already exists, and if I find one, I usually create the article from that page itself - there's usually a warning or something - "you may create the page <<hyperlinked text>> but check to see if it exists first". I click on that hyperlinked text(which is red in color) to go to the wikitext editor.... I usually write one line or so, and the click create page, and then really start editing the article with the VisualEditor... KNivedat (talk) 15:34, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hey KNivedat, I had kind of imagined that was the case :) So, the bad news is, I need you to make an additional click when you start creating your articles. But hey, the good news is, you can create articles with VE! After you click on that red link, check the tabs at the top of the page, and click on "Create". Then you'll be immediately able to create that article with VE. Try it, and let me know how that goes? Best, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 16:31, 21 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, KNivedat. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page CRED, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Chirota (talk) 21:44, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Chiro725, I see that you've removed pages for both PharmEasy and CRED. Firstly, I am not employed by any of these companies, nor do I have a monetary relationship with either of them. These companies (very recently) became unicorns and received a lot of coverage in the Indian press. I was surprised to see that Wikipedia didn't really have that many articles on companies and people in the Indian startup space (which is why I also created articles on Udaan, Amod Malviya yesterday). I was thinking of adding more to these articles, and perhaps even adding a couple more pages for other companies, but I'm not sure if I should, after these string of deletions.

If you read the Wikipedia article for CRED (Company) that you moved to draftspace, you will note that the very third line in that talks about how their business model has been criticised along with two citations to news articles that talk exclusively about this (the fact that Economic Times and Hindustan Times, both major newspapers in India "wasted" their time on writing articles on their business model indicates some level of notability atleast). I am not really sure why this has been moved to draftspace - this article meets notability and verifiability requirements (11 citations from 11 different websites) and it is written as neutrally as possible (includes negative coverage of the company). The only valid criticism of this is that it is a stub (definitely agreed), but there are 1000s of stubs in Wikipedia Article space which exist without getting deleted. Would be nice if you could help me with what I should do to prevent people from thinking this is a conflict of interest, because it really is not. Thanks, KNivedat (talk) 04:59, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

PharmEasy moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, PharmEasy, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. bonadea contributions talk 15:25, 14 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hey - Luis Ceze clearly meets notability guidelines because: 1. WP:NPROF criteria 3: "person has been an elected member of a highly selective and prestigious scholarly society or association (e.g., Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers". Within computer science and computer engineering, ACM and IEEE are the major scholarly associations and both are roughly equally "prestigious". If IEEE Fellows meet WP:NPROF, ACM Fellows should too because both are extremely selective. 2. Less than 1% of ACM members become Fellows. WP:NPROF also provides an "average professor test" and receiving a major award like this is something 90%+ of full professors will never achieve in their career. science (and computer engineering), ACM and IEEE are pretty much the only scholarly assoguidelines, and ACM is comparable to IEEE in size, impact and recognizability Additionally, less than 1% of ACM members become Fellows, which is
less than 1% of ACM members become ACM Felmeaning that any ACM Fellow would definitely pass the "average professor test" since most professors will never receive ACM Fellowship in their lifetime. I have been trying to go through the list of all ACM Fellows page on Wikipedia, creating pages for every professor on that list, and all of the ot- the " KNivedat (talk) 05:06, 6 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
