Orphaned non-free media (Image:Mary Wilson.png)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Mary Wilson.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 21:21, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for File:Michelle Williams - We Break The Dawn Single Photo.jpg}
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Michelle Williams - We Break The Dawn Single Photo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:The Supremes - Sing HDH.png
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:The Supremes - Sing HDH.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Aspects (talk) 22:29, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use Image:Michelle Williams.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Michelle Williams.png. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Aspects (talk) 01:46, 16 February 2009 (UTC)

Please read through a template before you remove it. The template states "Please remove this template if you have successfully addressed the concern. Note If you think the image should not be deleted, please discuss the matter with the editor who placed this template on the image. You can also place comments on the image talk page." The concern was not addressed because you provide no information. Edit summaries and minor edits
[edit]Looking at your recent contributions you seem to be making two mistakes with your edits. The first mistake is that you fail to provide edit summaries so other editors know why you made the edits. Please read through Help:Edit summary. The second mistake is that you are marking edits as "minor" when they are not. Please read through Help:Minor edit: "A minor edit is a version that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute." Fixing these two mistakes should improve your editing here at Wikipedia. Aspects (talk) 18:27, 17 February 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of File:LeToya - LeToya.png
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:LeToya - LeToya.png requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:File:LeToya - LeToya.png|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Please stop reverting edits without providing an edit summary
[edit]Will you please stop reverting edits without providing an edit summary? When you click the "Undo" button it states at the top "If you are undoing an edit that is not vandalism, explain the reason in the edit summary rather than using only the default message." By not placing an edit summary, you say you are undoing vandalism. If the edit was not vandalism, you are then being uncivil to the other editor.
When another editor uses an edit summary to show you a page explaining policy, please read through that page instead of just reverting. You should read through the whole of Wikipedia:Images because you seem to spend a lot of time downloading images to Wikipedia, adding images to articles and changing current images.
Also please read through Wikipedia:Non-free content as to where non-free images, such as album covers, can be used. Specifically, Wikipedia:Non-free content#Images for acceptable uses: "Cover art from various items, for identification only in the context of critical commentary of that item (not for identification without critical commentary)." and Wikipedia:Non-free content#Images_2 for unacceptable uses: "An album cover as part of a discography, as per the above."
Please read Wikipedia:Album#Cover: "The width of the image should ideally be no less than 200px (the default display size of the infobox), but it should be no more than 300px on at least one side (to satisfy fair use.)"
So in conclusion, please stop adding album and/or single covers to band/group/artist infoboxes because there is no critical commentary and if you are going to upload/change images please make sure at the most they are 300px by 300px. Aspects (talk) 20:54, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

License tagging for File:Booty Luv - Some Kinda Rush.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Booty Luv - Some Kinda Rush.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.
For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 13:06, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:We Break The Dawn - Screenshot (3)cropped.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:We Break The Dawn - Screenshot (3)cropped.png.
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
Thank you. — Σxplicit 20:32, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image (File:We Break The Dawn - Screenshot (2)cropped.png)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:We Break The Dawn - Screenshot (2)cropped.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 20:35, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
- Do not undo me without comment, I am not a vandal. Only free images would be suitable for that use, as the image is clearly replaceable. Please see our non-free content criteria. J Milburn (talk) 20:41, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:She Ain't Got... - Screenshot (4).png
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:She Ain't Got... - Screenshot (4).png.
Thank you. — Σxplicit 21:20, 27 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi Jonathan, images we were using in Supremes articles have been deleted per fair use rationale. Is their a way you can get some images of The Supremes to WikiCommons that we can use in these articles. User:Hammersoft even took out the one we used for The Supremes discography, which was the exact same one we used for The Supremes main article. Also, a portal for The Supremes has been created, and we were using the same discography image in that also when the same user took that out, too (as well as other images). I know you're an expert in this type of work, and I'm asking you for your help in thia matter, please.. Thanks! Best, --Discographer (talk) 22:37, 2 February 2010 (UTC) P.S. --
- Thanks for messaging me...I really wish I was an expert on these things but I am not...I just checked The Supremes page and the pictures all seem to be back now =D JonathanLGardner (talk) 19:09, 4 February 2010 (UTC)
- Hi, Jonathan, these three articles are ready for album covers - 20 Golden Greats, At Their Best, and Love Supreme - if might you be able to take care of this sometime, please! Thanks. Best, --Discographer (talk) 08:16, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
- Heya! I will do the 20 Golden Greats now, as I have the cover for that - my stepdad used to have the actual LP (to my annoyance it was the only Supremes album he had left in his record collection - which my mum gave away for free to some man on the street because she thought they were taking too much space up in the house!!!)...oh mothers...LOL JonathanLGardner (talk) 18:48, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

Return the Favor cover
[edit]Please don't change the cover back. The one you uploaded was EXTREMELY too big and too much of high quality, and non-free files have to be 300 x 300. And just to let you know, if someone re-uploads and image cover, it is usually because the original is too big. Thanks. Candyo32 15:02, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
- Yes I know all that, have you not seen my edit history? Anyway, if you were so concerned, why didn't you simply save the reduced version as a .png file and upload a new version of the file I originally posted rather than upload a whole new image? I'm sure you realise that's what the function is there for... JonathanLGardner (talk) 01:29, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
- It was much easier to find a smaller version on Amazon than to reduce the current image. Also PNG is a high quality format, and jpg is lower, which is recommended. Candyo32 19:44, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

copyright policy
[edit]Hi, Jon, do you understand copyright policy? You have a lot of deleted pics on your talkpage. For example [1] where did you get this picture you are claiming that you own it and that you are giving it freely to the world, do you own this picture? Did you take it yourself and if so do you have the original digital image? I would like to help you with this, perhaps you understand copyright, let me know please Jon. If you don't understand copyright then please don't upload any more pictures to Wikipedia and we can go through what you have uploaded, let me know Jon. Off2riorob (talk) 17:51, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
- YES! I did take the [2] picture. I have Corel Paint Shop Pro X2 and edited the pic slightly (cropping it and adding contrast as well as sharpening it) to improve quality. I know about copyright, hence why I took MY OWN picture and edited myself. The work is completely my own. I have many other pictures from that night that I have taken, edited and posted here JonathanLGardner (talk) 22:26, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
You also seem to be uploading higher quality images of album covers when that is also against fair use, - . It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of such covers * solely to illustrate the audio recording in question, * on the English-language Wikipedia, hosted on servers in the United States by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law - it doesn't say low resolution for nothing. Please comment, thanks. Off2riorob (talk) 18:03, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
Rose Colored Glasses
[edit]Hi there, Thank you for adding the music video link to the infobox. However I had deliberately ommitted it because in GA reviews for Rowland's previous single "Commander", the use of the external music video link in the infobox was discouraged. Hence I've removed it again, since I intended to take this article to GA as well. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 22:52, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks...I'm just curious to know why people discourage the use of an external music video for GA article... JonathanLGardner (talk) 22:55, 15 September 2010 (UTC)
- I'm not sure but I think it stems from the issue that sometimes it makes the infobox too long/to detailed. I was told "they can be better incorporated into the external links section". -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 23:13, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

Problems with upload of File:HallelujahAlexandraBurke.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:HallelujahAlexandraBurke.jpg. You don't seem to have said where the image came from, who created it, or provided a license tag. We require this information to verify that the image is legally usable on Wikipedia, and because most image licenses require giving credit to the image's creator.
To add this information, select the appropriate license tag from this list, click on this link, then click the "Edit" tab at the top of the page and add the information to the image's description. If you can't find a suitable license tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. If you need help, post your question on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 21:06, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
Images
[edit]Your constant uploads of high quality images are actually becoming a nuisance. U.S. and international copyright law is quite clear about the status of album and single covers. Per the copyright laws, album/single artwork is a non-free commericial work. Under the wikimedia agreements, wikipedia can upload low quality versions of artwork to demonstrate the covers of singles and albums. However that quality must not be equal to the actual image quality as this opens scope for others to copy and distribute the image and thus benefit commercially. The existing image for Overcome, for example was perfectly adequate because it showed all the features of the coverart without distorting any of the elements. You have consistently tried to upload higher quality images saying that existing ones are of 'terrible quality' when that simply isn't the case. When it comes to the law we should always side with caution. It may be a joke to you but wikipedia is liable for all images uploaded. A small amount of discoloration is an acceptable compromise for a coverart which definitely won't breach copyright law. Other users have reverted you in the past and now I'm officially asking you to stop this silly behaviour. If you think I'm wrong then by all means bring it up at WP:NFCC and seek advice but right now myself and others are convinced that covers you upload are breaching WP:NFCC so I politely ask you to stop. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 [talk] 16:20, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
- Excuse me, but, I am all for uploading MODERATE quality images, but the image you reverted back to was clearly VERY LQ. Not even LQ, but VERY. Not only is the colour distorted but there is a very noticeable amount of noise. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Loud_-_Rihanna.jpg - that is MODERATE quality and I uploaded that. So please do no try to say that I "constantly" upload high quality images. I will admit that I used to, but I more recently, have been ensuring all copyrighted images I upload are of a moderate quality and for album/single covers 300x300 or less. I no longer see the point in arguing over the Overcome cover because it really isn't as serious to me as to waste any more time on it. However, I will not be made out to be some sort of pestuous vandal who is "constantly" breaching rules and guidelines. Thanks. JonathanLGardner (talk) 17:14, 7 February 2011 (UTC)
- The rules apply not only to how the image appears on the upload page but how it appears in the infobox. It is the latter which is the primary concern. If the image appears fine in the infobox then there isn't an issue. Small amounts of pixilisation/colorisation are expected because that is the nature of non-free LOW quality media items. moderate quality is not acceptable, the rules are clear images should be of low quality so they cannot be redistributed and aid in the breach of copyright violations. Its not going to kill someone if the image is lower quality than you personally like but it goes a long way to preventing non-free media violations. You need to get off your high horse on this issue. I used the words 'constantly' because I've personally brushed into you several times on this matter and other users have also pulled you up on it but you don't seem to be prepared to listen. Whilst it may not seem like a big deal to yourself, wikipedia spends a LOT of money on legal teams to formulate the policies at a central level which govern the use of non-free media. It would be helpful if people like yourself remembered that the only reason we are allowed to upload covers in the first place is because US law stipulates Low Quality as a non-copyright infringement. Thus being able to upload non-free items is a privilege on wikipedia, NOT an automatic right. As I am not the only on mentioning this to you (others have reverted you too). WP:NFCC clearly and explicitly says "Low- rather than high-resolution/fidelity/bit rate is used". End of story. Have a good day. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 [talk] 23:23, 8 February 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not sure if you read my response carefully. I clearly admitted that I have not always uploaded the "low"est quality images. I am on no 'high horse'. I clearly admitted that I have made mistakes in the past. I don't feel it is necessary for you to be offensive to get your point across. In my response, I detailed that I felt I was made out to be some sort of vandal, when that is not the case. I truly believe my mistakes are far out-weighed by the positives that I have created in my contributions for wikipedia. I invite you to go and look at them yourself. I would much appreciate feedback - as I've seen your profile - and you're clearly an absolute pro - and no I'm not being sarcastic. JonathanLGardner (talk) 03:40, 9 February 2011 (UTC)

The Supremes 'A Go-Go
[edit]Hi Jonathan, how's it going? I seen this moved and do find a lot of sources like Discogs that show this as 'A Go-Go, though I found that Motown's albums catalogue show it listed as The Supremes 'A Go-Go. [edit]I didn't remove it, someone else did because US Weekly is a tabloid. Reviews should come from noted industry critics. It is highly likely in the coming days that proper reviews will surface. — Lil_℧niquℇ №1 [talk] 21:04, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hi. I was the one that removed the review. The reason is as Lil-unique explained, as well as in the article's history page, which shows the who, what, and when of edits made to the article and edit summaries, in which I explained the removal. Consider notable music publications such as those listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Albums/Review sites, or publications/sites used by Metacritic, which is more extensive (list) These are largely accepted as review sources and sources in general for WP:Albums articles. Thank you. Dan56 (talk) 23:03, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- Ok thanks, I know all that. BUT, at the time there was only the two reviews. I have no problem with it being replaced with a host of professional reviews if there was more than enough...but there isn't. Nevermind. JonathanLGardner (talk) 13:56, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 18:04, 28 October 2018 (UTC)

- I wrote that text with "number" originally. You are incorrect. You are the one editing my original, clearly referenced texts to be provocative. You clearly have nothing better to do than mess up well-referenced work. I had to correct numerous edits which resulted in inaccurate info on the discography tables. You copied and pasted album titles on songs from different albums, despite numerous references clarifying this. Your lack of attention-to-detail is frustrating in the least. Please take the time to read existing references and Wikipedia templates as provided in my edits before further vandalisation, which I will not hesistate to report should you make accurate information false again. The Supremes discography.
[edit]Hi JonathanLGardner ,
I erase you post, because you posted in my user page not in my talk page. I kept the charts they performed better and the more well known charts in the table, but you can change again and include the 10 charts you consider the best. I only did that because almost all Supremes singles has articles and the info you put there can be included in them.--88marcus (talk) 23:33, 3 February 2021 (UTC)
- I understand, no problem. I've added the chart peaks for each territory to the individual song pages so they are not lost. I propose for The Supremes' 60s singles removing the Record World and Cashbox charts, as their Billboard Hot 100 history has the most US entries after its R&B chart. Then for international charts; SWI (2 entries), NOR (3 entries), BEL FL (5 entries), GER (5 entries), IRE (7 entries - closely aligned to the UK also). I could either take out the R&B chart for the 60s singles and keep one of the international charts, but torn between GER and IRE. For the 70s singles, I'm thinking of removing; BEL FL (1 entry), NZ (1 entry), SGP (1 entry), BGK (2 entries), IRE (2 entries). This would leave the Cashbox and RW charts for the 70s singles, but they could be swapped out for 2 of the intnernational charts. What are your thoughts? Lead section in The Supremes discography
[edit]Hello JonathanLGardner,
You have done an excellent job on the article by the group The Supremes but I would like to show you this article with the style manual: Wikipedia:Writing better articles#Lead section An introduction should contain a maximum of four paragraphs and should synthesize the entire article, without many explanations. See as an example this Madonna albums discography article, it is in line with Wikipedia standards and I hope it can help you.Thanks for your atention.--88marcus (talk) 22:25, 4 February 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the links. Whilst editing, it became apparent the lead section was growing much too long. At least with all the major points now highlighted, it will be easier to condense them. Also, I have considered splitting the discography into albums and singles — in the way Madonna and Mariah Carey's are. JonathanLGardner (talk) 22:41, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

The file File:The Supremes - L'amore Verra (You Can't Hurry Love).png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
More than one cover art used as lead image. Insufficiently supported by critical commentary. May fail WP:NFCC#8 and/or WP:NFCC#3a.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
"Hip Hop" in the Soul/R&B Singles chart's name an anachronism in The Supremes discography
[edit]The reason the "HH" was removed from the column's title was because it stood for "Hip Hop", a genre that did not exist during The Supremes' heyday, and if there was a WP:ANACHRONISM guideline in the Manual of Style, any references to "hip hop" in the Soul/Black/R&B Singles chart's name should be avoided whereever possible, because the words "hip hop" were not added to the chart's name until 1999, long after The Supremes have disbanded. Can't you find a different solution on how the column should be titled (like changing the title to "US Soul" or something) instead of simply going back to the previous version? Jim856796 (talk) 02:36, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
- I completely understand and I am with you in that R&B/HH is not ideal for older discographies, but it's the present name of those charts and how the source Billboard refers to them in all the references. The Supremes discography has charted throughout every name change the chart has had - so I'm unsure of how we'd show this accurately as the albums and singles charts are seperated by decade but the name changes were in 1969, 1978, 1990 and 1999. Would we seperate the tables for each name change? Further complicating matters is the newer R&B Songs and Adult R&B charts. Removing the /HH could cause confusion with the newer R&B Songs and R&B Albums charts whilst calling it US Soul could also be seen as referring to the Adult R&B chart where US soul music tends to chart nowadays. I'm not quite sure what the best fix is, but at least the abbreviation is consistent with the present name and the references, so there's no confusion as to what is being referenced. JonathanLGardner (talk) 19:32, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
- What if I told you I didn't care about the existence of those other, newer charts you mentioned, and I just wanted any references to hip-hop/rap on those chart tables to be avoided, period? I mean, I can't just pretend that the "HH" stands for something else besides hip-hop/rap. I think the The Supremes discography page should just be barred from consideration for GA or FA status If you let the anachronistic-looking "HH" stand on the R&B-chart column, because it could be easily edit-warred over.Jim856796 (talk) 20:55, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
- Wow...as I stated before I completely understand your complaints, however, the source and compiler of the chart, Billboard themselves now reference the chart as the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, to reflect the current musical landscape - The Supremes have charted on the chart throughout its various name changes, so how would one decide which is the best for tables which span across numerous changes? If you go to the page I've referred to you can see it is the same chart The Supremes charted on in the 60s, but has gone through numerous name changes. When you click the references for the charts, they all go back to The Supremes' chart history on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. It would be inaccurate to name it anything else, especially given the very recent R&B Songs chart which is the current Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs minus the Hip-Hop songs. This chart did not exist until late 2012! How is it more accurate to refer to a chart that started in 2012 but The Supremes debuted on Billboard in 1962? Thus, referring to the chart by its current name, as the source does makes it easier for casual readers to follow. They can see - accurately - that it is the same chart The Supremes topped many times that newer artists appear on, simply with a new name. Your issue should be with Billboard, not me. I'm simply trying to make The Supremes discography featured list status. There is no room for ambiguity or personal opinion. The source rules. It doesn't make sense to reference a source for a chart and call it something else because you don't like the genre mentioned. The Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts are the same charts The Supremes charted on in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s. R&B Songs and R&B Albums were created in 2012 under different criteria. JonathanLGardner (talk) 22:53, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
- Frankly, the (current) name of the R&B Hip Hop chart going to make somebody ask how the rap/hip-hop genre is going to exist in the 1960s or earlier. Can footnotes detailing the R&B/Hip-Hop chart's name changes during The Supremes' heyday work, or is that not a good-enough solution for you? For example, how about a disclaimer on the notelist saying the rap/hip-hop genre simply did not exist during The Supremes' heyday? Or is the best solution to this no solution at all? Simply going back to the previous version is just going to make me wish those newer R&B charts by Billboard has never been created. It should be noted the discographies of other major R&B artists who have charted around the same time as The Supremes do not have "HH" in the R&B Chart singles column.Jim856796 (talk) 03:47, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
Okay, new solution: How about we just put the "HH" in parentheses on those tables if it can't be omitted entirely? Jim856796 (talk) 03:56, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
You Gets No Love writers
[edit]Hi Jonathan my name is Toni Coleman and I co/wrote You gets no love by Faith evans. You have Trevell Coleman and I’d like you to correct please. User:2600:6C50:57F:5CD4:3CCA:2822:1581:B390 (User talk:2600:6C50:57F:5CD4:3CCA:2822:1581:B390)
- Hi Toni, I've only worked on the chart history and discography of Faith Evans on wikipedia. I didn't list the writers or producers on any of her records. My edits on You Gets No Love have been solely regarding the song's chart peaks in the UK. According to the article, the credits are taken from the liner notes of the Faithfully album. Do you have any references with your name listed as a writer of the song? JonathanLGardner (talk) 01:43, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
Diana Ross chart trajectory
[edit]Hi. I appreciate you adding chart information to an article I started, but detailing what a song reached each week like here falls under WP:CHARTTRAJ. Casual readers are not interested in reading a play-by-play of what position a song rose to each week (this was decided years ago on Wikipedia), and the focus on UK charts when Ross is an American artist, even if these UK sales charts are the only charts the songs appeared on and when the article is about the album and not the song(s), is odd. Sometimes we say the debut and subsequent peak, but really the peak is what is most important. Ss112 12:57, 4 November 2021 (UTC)
The Supremes discography
[edit]Hi there! I saw you nominated The Supremes discography for GA status. I wanted to let you know that since discography pages are considered lists, they do not qualify as being considered for GAN. Therefore, I recommend you revert that and nominate at FAC. Cheers :-) – zmbro (talk) 17:04, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
- Hello, I was going by the Wikipedia:WikiProject Discographies which currently has 33 pages rated GA including Robert Johnson recordings. I've since reverted the GA nomination though and will look into FAC. Many thanks. JonathanLGardner (talk) 17:57, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

The file File:The Source (Feat. Candi Staton) - You Got The Love.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Adding chart positions below 200
[edit]Hi Jonathan. I've noticed that you've added Tophit chart peaks below 200 to discographies and song articles. Please note that there was a discussion about this and a consensus formed to make WP:Record charts#Charts with more than 200 positions. We now no longer consider chart positions lower than 200 notable enough to include as we are not an indiscriminate collection of information. Thanks. Ss112 20:28, 7 May 2022 (UTC)

Discographies should have a maximum of 10 charts in any wikitable
[edit]Hi. Regarding your edits to Mary Mary discography in December last year, please maintain a maximum of 10 charts in all discography wikitables. We should not attempt to fit every chart an artist has ever appeared on on a discography, as this is outside their scope. Discographies were never intended as a list of charts first and foremost. It's also an WP:ACCESSIBILITY issue as more than 10 columns widens the screen on some devices, can make text smaller to fit, and makes tables convoluted, which is against their purpose to format information in an easily accessible way. Please bear this in mind going forward, as it appears you're still occasionally adding charts exceeding 10 to wikitables. The charts we include amongst the 10 are only supposed to be an overview and/or the markets an artist performed the best in. Thanks. Ss112 14:18, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
- "There are other charts that could be removed with less appearances"...Mate, Williams had one appearance on the Adult R&B airplay chart. There's no value less than one (zero is the absence of a value). Also, it's a bit rich to tell me to "start a discussion as to which" chart should be removed, when I already started a discussion informing you to stop adding more than 10 charts that you didn't even reply to. Maybe don't add more than 10 charts and there won't need to be a discussion? Ss112 02:02, 25 August 2022 (UTC)

Replaceable non-free use File:1969 - Someday We'll Be Together.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:1969 - Someday We'll Be Together.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of non-free use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of non-free use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text

with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file's talk page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

Replaceable non-free use File:1964 - Where Did Our Love Go (Stateside).png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:1964 - Where Did Our Love Go (Stateside).png.
{{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable non-free use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.

Attempts to ping me don't work
[edit]Nice try pinging me in something like 10 edit summaries in September 2022 on Alexandra Burke discography here; I have had pings turned off for years and I literally only just noticed it more than two years later. That was also completely unnecessary and seems very petty. Why would I need that many pings when one would have sufficed? I also am not required to start discussions before boldly removing content; nobody is. It is no editor's responsibility to provide a working source for one that is now dead. Bear that in mind going forward, and don't deliberately be annoying and (attempt to) ping editors 10 different times, Jonathan. Thank you. Ss112 09:08, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
- Very confused by this post. Definately didn't intend to alert you when making the edits...so very long ago. You flagged an issue, I resolved it and thought nothing else of it. If you were alerted each time, I apologise, it was not intentional. All the best JonathanLGardner (talk) 09:00, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
- I told you I have pings turned off, so no, I was not notified. I would have posted here in September 2022 if I had been notified. But in case you didn't know, pinging a user is what typing User:So and so's username does. It gives them a red "1" notification each time you do it, even in edit summaries. Reverting without giving a reason
[edit]I think that if you revert an edit, be it by an new editor or a veteran of 17 years with 200,000 edits, the minimum curtesy is to give a reason in the edit summary. Muhandes (talk) 14:36, 24 November 2024 (UTC)
