License tagging for Image:Flatirons.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Flatirons.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 05:08, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
Re:Utah-geo-stub
[edit]S'alright. For future reference, all geography items are marked with geo-stubs, but there are separate ones for almost all countries and a lot of sub-national regions too (including all US states). Almost all of them are in the form CountryName-geo-stub, so if in doubt try that and use preview to see if it works. if it doesn't, then a generic stub's fine since someone else is bound to be able to fix it up later. Grutness...wha? 20:54, 1 February 2007 (UTC)
- Have a look at Wikipedia:Userboxes - that has all the information. Be careful, though - not everyone's a big fan of userboxes, and it's easy to make one that someone will object to. Good luck! Grutness...wha? 21:11, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

Hypothetical WikiProject:Boulder
[edit]Wow, that's an exciting proposal. I'm inclined to say "no" because I don't have a very clear idea how much of a commitment -- and how much effort -- a WikiProject:Boulder would require. I have a strange feeling that the answer would be "too much for me to sign up now".
I guess I'm not as avid a Wikipedia editor as you are. I'm going to throw out a wild guess that I do fewer edits per day than you, but I might be wrong -- I have a tendency to work on articles by doing a series of small edits, so the "count" might be deceptively high.
You've had a logon to this grand intellectual arena for about three weeks. I've been around for almost nine months. Even so, I still consider myself something of a newbie/outsider in the world of Wikipedia. I'm sometimes aggressive in what I do with Wikipedia articles, sometimes cautious, but I'm still sort of picking my spots. Wikipedia has a vast array of conventions and customs, and I don't feel that I know them very well yet.
For instance, there is a WikiProject:Colorado already. I took a quick look at this project's "home page" (for lack of a better term) and it seems obvious that they have a big task list, and could surely use our help. For that reason, might it make better sense for us to sign up with that group? Furthermore, casually looking around, I saw a number of WikiProjects for states but I didn't notice very many for cities -- none for any city as small as Boulder. It seems to me that starting WikiProject:Boulder would go against a sort of de facto standard. I am not averse, necessarily, to overthrowing unwritten customs, but I don't feel strongly enough about WikiProject:Boulder to buck the tide.
-*-*-* sudden and violent change of subject *-*-*-
I was first turned on to Wikipedia in May 2006, when I accidentally encountered the Boulder, Colorado article as a Google search result. You might find it amusing to go into the change history and see what the Boulder article was at that time. Briefly, it was a long article that contained a lot of outrageous material. In particular, as I recall, there was a section entitled "A Culture of Rioting", and another section containing some objectionable opinions about the Jonbenet Ramsey case. The "people" section featured one person most prominently, the only one to be pictured other than Jonbenet. Can you guess who that was? WARD CHURCHILL! Apparently the article had been the target of "edit wars" for a long time before I showed up, and I contributed my own two cents to continuing edit wars, as you can see from the Boulder discussion page.
Somehow, all of that has calmed down now. I don't know why the Boulder-bashers have retreated, but they have. The Boulder article has improved from awful to okay. Just okay. Feature articles on Wikipedia are better than this one, both in writing style and in the content chosen for inclusion. The article could also use a better "skyline" picture -- the one we have now is a shot of the Pearl Street Mall at night, in which almost nothing is visible.
I am of the opinion that the city of Boulder is a tougher target (for an encyclopedia article) than most other topics.
For instance, you expressed incredulity that Jonbenet Ramsey was not mentioned in the Boulder article. Well, the Ramsey case is so controversial that most previous versions of the article had contained really objectionable material about her. Long-time observers of the Boulder article were holding their breath in anticipation of the Jonbenet wars being revived, which (thankfully) does not seem to have happened. (Good job, by the way -- Jonbenet does need one brief mention in Boulder, Colorado, with a link to her own article, which is just about what we have now.)
Another article that I discovered early on was entitled Colorado Chautauqua Park. Yes, it was about that area that we know and love, located just south of 9th and Baseline. However, the article as I found it was short -- only about four or five sentences -- and every sentence in the article, as well as the title, was misleading if not outright false.
I have renamed the article, and I have been working on The Colorado Chautauqua article, off and on, ever since. To do justice to the history of this wonderful local institution in an encyclopedia article is not easy. I don't feel that I am done with this article -- it's a sort of labor of love for me. I could say some of the same things about the more general article on the Chautauqua movement, which of course I discovered because of the connection to our own Independent Chautauqua in Boulder.

Caffe Sole
[edit]Hi! You said: Hey, would it be better if I made a Restaurants and Coffee Shops section in the Boulder, Colorado article and moved it there, and added some other restaurants and Coffee Shops? That's not a bad idea, although you should try to be concise. Also, if you like writing about Boulder, maybe you would enjoy contributing to Wikitravel? They are more oriented towards information that would help a visitor. Regards, FreplySpang 20:12, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:CaffeSole.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:CaffeSole.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Rklawton 13:49, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Why is it that I am blocked almost every day for this reason? I was busy for a while, and when I got back I get this message. Please someone reply... --Jimbo Herndan 17:58, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

Pentax Optio W10
[edit]I saw that you created the Pentax Optio W10 article with the company name in all caps i.e 'PENTAX Optio W10'. I direct you to Wikipedia:Manual of Style (trademarks), where it notes:
- Follow standard English text formatting and capitalization rules even if the trademark owner encourages special treatment
Companies often do stuff like this with their logos and whatnot. The company name is 'Pentax', even if they use all capital letters in their logo. I've moved the article in line with this policy. Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia! --Imroy 02:13, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

About the "Roman" article
[edit]Dude, if we don't even know a lot of info about Niko yet, do you think that Roman needs one? He's a supporting character, and no supporting GTA characters have their own articles; it should be deleted or redirected until futher notice. ♣ Klptyzm Chat wit' me § Contributions ♣ 01:43, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- Well, those characters don't have their own articles, anyway, and they don't deserve them; when the time is right, Roman will be integrated into the GTA 4 characters list. ♣ Klptyzm Chat wit' me § Contributions ♣ 01:51, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
Blocked again?
[edit]Just got back from vacation, and now this...
Thank you for so graciously unblocking me. All I have to say is this vandal is just horrible. I checked out some of his stuff, and he seems to be all over the place. But I think we should just ignore him, and he'll get bored and leave. What do you think?--Jimbo Herndan 05:07, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
- Well, it takes time. And patience. —210physicq (c) 03:14, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
Proposed Cold War history project
[edit]I notice that you had expressed interest in the proposal for a project relating to the Cold War at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals#Cold War history. The proposal has generated sufficient interest to be considered viable, but the original proposer has been inactive for some time, so no one has been following it. I was wondering whether you, as one of the interested parties, would be interested in establishing the project as an independent entity or possibly as a task force of Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history. Please indicate your opinion in the comments section here. Thank you for your interest in the subject, and for your timely response. John Carter 21:22, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit]The consensus was to merge the announced film to The Sims#Film. Please do not violate consensus without discussion. —Erik (talk • contrib) - 00:27, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- I know, but here's the thing. As an editor who works in future films, I've found that a lot of films that get announced don't always enter production. You can see my subpage here that lists films still not in production that date back to the 1990s. Usually, the rule of thumb to show that a film will be produced is when it has a director, a cast, and a production start date in place. —Erik (talk • contrib) - 00:32, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for File:Carbug.JPG}
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Carbug.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:44, 7 September 2010 (UTC)
WikiProject Colorado
[edit]The year 2011 has brought many changes to the State of Colorado. Several users have asked us to reactivate WikiProject Colorado. We have a new Governor and other state officers, two new U.S. Representatives, many new state legislators, and a new Mayor of Denver. Many articles about Colorado need to be updated and many Colorado places, people, and organizations need new articles. Portal:Colorado needs some new featured articles.
Can you help us? Please see our list of some requested articles. If you would like to remain an active member of WikiProject Colorado, please leave me a message at User talk:Buaidh or e-mail me at Special:EmailUser/Buaidh. If you cannot help right now, you can go to inactive status and then reactivate your status later. Thanks for any help you can provide. Yours aye, Buaidh 18:03, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Suggestion for WikiProject United States to support WikiProject Colorado
[edit]It was recently suggested that WikiProject Colorado, to which you are a member, may be inactive or semi-active and it might be beneficial to include it in the list of projects supported by WikiProject United States. After reviewing the project it appears that there haven't been much active discussion on the talk page in some time and the only content updates appear to be simple maintenance so being supported by a larger project might be beneficial. I have begun a discussion on the projects talk page to see how the members of the project feel about this suggestion. Another user has added the project to the WPUS template and I added it to the list of supported projects in the WPUS main project page but before I take any further action I wanted to contact each of the active members for their input. --Kumioko (talk) 23:34, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
Motto of the Day Help Request April 2014
[edit]→ Never be jealous again. Never doubt that I love you more than the world. More than myself.
Motto of the Day (WP:MOTD) is in a state of emergency and really needs your help! There are not enough editors who are reviewing or nominating mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review, and this probably means that you will notice a red link or “This space for rent” as our mottos for the next weeks and months.
Please take a moment to review the nominations and nominate your own new mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review and Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/'Specials. Any help would be appreciated! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 09:13, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
- This message has been sent by pjoef on behalf of Motto of the Day to all editors of the English Wikipedia who are showing MOTD's templates on their pages, and to all the participants to MOTD: (page, template, and category).
Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
