Hello, JillyJee, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like this place and decide to stay.

Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

Recent edit reversion

[edit]

In this edit here, I reverted some information that appears to be a violation of our copyright policy.

I provided a brief summary of the problem in the edit summary, which should be visible just below my name. You can also click on the "view history" tab in the article to see the recent history of the article. This should be an edit with my name, and a parenthetical comment explaining why your edit was reverted. If that information is not sufficient to explain the situation, please ask.

I do occasionally make mistakes. We get hundreds of reports of potential copyright violations every week, and sometimes there are false positives, for a variety of reasons. (Perhaps the material was moved from another Wikipedia article, or the material was properly licensed but the license information was not obvious, or the material is in the public domain but I didn't realize it was public domain, and there can be other situations generating a report to our Copy Patrol tool that turn out not to be actual copyright violations.) If you think my edit was mistaken, please politely let me know and I will investigate. S Philbrick(Talk) 12:09, 18 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Are you using ChatGPT or another online tool to attempt to paraphrase copyright text? If so, please stop doing that immediately. DanCherek (talk) 03:43, 29 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon
You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without evidence of permission. Please take this opportunity to ensure that you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text at the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  DanCherek (talk) 01:48, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked for continuing copyright issues at articles such as The Mechanics of Yenagoa where your addition was obviously derived from here. DanCherek (talk) 01:49, 5 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It is regrettable that I was prohibited on Wikipedia because I was contributing to a project that helps develop Nigerian authors and novels on wikipidedia, and throughout the course of this effort, I violated Wikipedia's copyright policy several times, for which I accept full responsibility. I've been familiarizing myself with the Wikipedia copyright policy and policy on how to use non-free content over the last few days, and the lesson has been learned.
So, in the future, I'll be careful not to violate copyright policies or other policies that will cause me to be blocked. I apologize and accept full responsibility for my actions, and I vow that this will not happen again. JillyJee (talk) 10:18, 8 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I'm okay with unblocking you for a second chance, but before I do that, can you confirm whether your previous edits involved the use of any automated paraphrasing tools? You were editing quite rapidly, in some cases adding long and detailed plots in only 2 or 3 minutes. DanCherek (talk) 16:19, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I did use automated paraphrase programs to alter some articles, but not all of them; nonetheless, I know better now and will not do it again. JillyJee (talk) 08:06, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. I've unblocked now; please be careful going forward. Generally, it would be helpful to only add plot summaries for books that you have actually read, and to summarize in your own words without directly referring to other sources at first. This might help avoid the temptation of using the same or substantially similar phrasing. DanCherek (talk) 13:23, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
