Possible page
[edit]Hello! In regards to the third week exercise: I'm not sure if this could be feasable, and I apologize if it isn't, but perhaps another possible page we could add could be a list of punishments one could face in the period of time we're considering? 858rine (talk) 08:05, 30 September 2015 (UTC) 858rine (talk) 08:05, 30 September 2015 (UTC)
Good evening! I was re-reading the Thomas de Veil page and found a couple more possible articles that could be added to wikipedia: one would be on William Wreathock, the leader of the Wreathock gang, and another one could be on trading justices. Would these be worth considering? 858rine (talk) 01:35, 13 November 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you so much! I will check out the library tomorrow and I'll see what I can do- I have internet problems these days, but I do hope I'll manage to write the Wreathock page in time. Thank you so much again! 858rine (talk) 23:14, 15 November 2015 (UTC)
Answering two doubts
[edit]1. If you prefer to move to the sandbox, you can. I don't believe it's necessary but feel free to do it.
2. Quoting from this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_sources (see section 6 for citation styles in particular) "Each article should use one citation method or style throughout; if an article already has citations, preserve consistency by using that method or seek consensus on the talk page before changing it (the principle is reviewed at WP:CITEVAR). While you should try to write citations correctly, what matters most is that you provide enough information to identify the source. Others will improve the formatting if needed." --Navarco (talk) 10:55, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
Possible page to improve : Molly house
[edit]I had a look to the page dedicated to Molly houses and I thought it could be improved in terms of structure, notes and form. I don't know if it's entirely consistent with our work, I just thought it could be worth improving since homosexual behaviour (or, actually, anything conforming to the Buggery Act 1533 in general) seemed to be often severely prosecuted and molly houses could have been the scene of frequent arrests.--Pbord (talk) 17:17, 5 October 2015 (UTC)
Problem in signing up for the article
[edit]I tried multiple times to sign up for the article "prosecution association" by editing the table, but the system doesn't allow me since "An automated filter has identified this edit as potentially unconstructive, and it has been disallowed." Could you please still consider the article taken? Oneyrox (talk) 18:20, 18 October 2015 (UTC)
Pickpocketing
[edit]Dear Mrs Clegg, thank you for your possible sources for my article ! I would indeed like it if you could pass your article on to me ! Also, about doing a presentation on Moll Flanders as a pickpocket, I could do a presentation if you like, but could I do it in 3 weeks ? On November 9 it would be good for me! Dear Mrs Clegg, I have tried to find Shoemaker's article on Jstor but it is not there. Could you then put it on your ISA please ? I will also come to see you during your office hour on Monday so that you can lend me the other article that you mentionned, if that is fine for you. Have a nice week-end! Ordinary of Newgate's Accounts
[edit]Dear Mrs Clegg, I am truly sorry I didn't reply but I saw the message only today. I came back to my hometown on Wednesday so I cannot go to the library to look at the sources I found. May I make the presentation not the 26th but the following Monday? Thank you and sorry again! GMari92 (talk) 12:33, 24 October 2015 (UTC)
Good afternoon, I have a question about possible sources. The Old Bailey Online proposes as introductory reading this book: Faller, L. B., Turned to Account: The Forms and Functions of Criminal Biography in Late Seventeenth- and Early Eighteenth-Century England (Cambridge, 1987). It's not in the library and I don't remember to have seen it in the list of sources. Could you possibly have it? Or do you know where I could find it? Thank you in advance! GMari92 (talk) 12:29, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
Citations
[edit]Hello, I wanted to know if you believe this website [[1]] can be trusted and if I can use the digital books provided in this online library as sources for my article? Thank you JMChaleat (talk) 15:56, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
Doubt on the exact date of William Spiggot's death
[edit]Hello, I am uncertain about the exact date of his death. On the Ordinary's Account of the 8th february it says talking about Spiggot "on Monday, February 9, before the Execution" and then it says "on the Wednesday Morning, he again receiv'd the Sacrament in the Chapel, from whence he was immediately after, carry'd to the place of Execution". Therefore I deduce that he was executed on the 11th, the Wednesday. But in the book Tales of the Hanging Court (cf references) it says that he was executed on the 8th (the Sunday). I am a bit confuse and I don't know which date is correct. What would you say? Thank you. JMChaleat (talk) 17:25, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
Footpad
[edit]As suggested in my talk page I have replied in a more specific way about the theme that I will deal with. I have also cited some of the reliable sources consulted for the article. Moreover, unfortunately, last week I couldn't come to your office hours and take the reprint of Alexander Smith "The History of the Lives of the Most Noted Highwaymen", I wonder I could come tomorrow. Thanks for your help.Im 2u (talk) 21:34, 1 November 2015 (UTC)
Hello, I'm writing because I have some questions:
- I've noted that in 'Footpad' talkpage a user has deleted some extra informations pointing out: "Please note that all streets in London were considered "highways" in previous times, so while a footpad may have been a highway robber, he'd still be an urban criminal." I only wrote that both highwaymen and footpads were used robbing on the "King's Highway", the major street were commercial exchanges took place. This information is taken from The Georgian Underworld by Rictor Norton, http://rictornorton.co.uk/gu09.htm Do you think it is a reliable source or I have to wrote a response of excuse?
I mentioned this on Monday: In 1719 (RS) the second transportation Act declared that all the streets of London were to be considered highways under the statue of 1692, a measure to encourage prosecutions for attacks perpetrated in lanes and courts My source for this was Shoemaker's essay on Street robbers (which I have uploaded onto ISA materials); please read and check his sources.
- I've read and consulted the collection "Lives of teh Most Remarkable Criminals", may I take it to Cosulich reception desk tomorrow or bring it on monday class by another student? Unfortunately I could not attend next class.
Thankyou - best leave it with the porter's desk.
- Can you clarify what ECCO is? You have written about it in my talk page.

In using talk pages it's best to create section headings!
Clarification
[edit]Thank you for your clarification about the Eighteenth Century Collections Online (ECCO), I had a look and I foud it very useful to improve Footpad article. I also checked Shoemaker's essay on Street robbers in order to answer to the user who wrote in the talkpage of the article. Your suggestions had been very helpful. I've left the "Lives of teh Most Remarkable Criminals" with the porter's desk at Cosulich yesterday, I hope it was consigned to your office. Thank for your helpIm 2u (talk) 07:47, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
Bloody Code
[edit]I believe that the books recommended on my talk page either does not exist (Beattie), or is located in Torino (Davison) according to my search on SBN. Perhaps there is a better way to look for the books, or a way for interlibrary loans as you suggested. As an exchange student(and I am fully aware that this really shouldn't be an excuse), I am experiencing some problems with locating the libraries, not to mention the individual books. Looking forward to some help! Eslee110 (talk) 21:05, 2 November 2015 (UTC)
Thank you so much for all your help! I know I am very behind, and I will try very hard to catch up with the assignments until next week. --Eslee110 (talk) 13:29, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
Thomas de Veil
[edit]I do apologize, I thought my talk page was in the watch list! The Thomas de Veil article has been accepted an hour ago, and I'm now trying to structure the years between 1729 and 1746. The main bibliography, which I had put in Thomas de Veil's talk page, unfortunately disappeared when the article was created, but on a positive note it has been expanded since then, so I'll simply create a new page. 858rine (talk) 18:41, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
- There is no problem, I redirected the link to the Thomas de Veil page not too long ago and, generally, only just realized the draft had been accepted! However, I do have a problem: I can't read the Thomas de Veil page on the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography anymore. It shouldn't be a problem, since I have other sources to check, but I wondered if you were aware of any way other way to access the site without having to subscribe? 858rine (talk) 19:25, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I have a doubt. Before moving to Leicester Fields, he was a political lobbyist with an office in Great Scotland Yard: that's what the memoirs say. However, a couple of page later, they say that his office was in Whitehall. Now I can't understand whether he moved or, considering the two streets cross, if it was simply the same office. Do you know? 858rine (talk) 19:45, 4 November 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for your help! 858rine (talk) 16:01, 5 November 2015 (UTC)
I have a couple of questions regarding the Thomas de Veil page. The first one is a detail, but I just can't find out the answer: while I know that, usually, you would just keep piling up the titles, I'm not sure if it's the same with Esq. Are you still an Esquire if you get knighted? The second question is about the page proper: should I add some of his cases, or would that be overly detailed? 858rine (talk) 19:13, 6 November 2015 (UTC)
- Hello, sorry for answering so late! Someone from the course did offer some very useful suggestions which I am now trying to implement, though it is taking me a while to actually come up with the ideal way to proceed: I am trying to see if I should put a new section with Thomas de Veil's most important cases, and, if so, how should I do it- should I make a brief list, describe them very briefly, go into detail? This choice is taking me perhaps too much time, for which I apologize, but, since I would also want to ask for a peer review, I'd prefer for it to be as good as possible. Another suggestion was also that of uploading some pictures, which I'm definitely going to do. Regarding Hans de Veil and Jonathan Swift, whenever I look for the essay it is listed under Swift's name, though then I can't find it in his list of works: I assume it's because it is a very minor work, but I am not sure. The essay itself, Thomas de Veil's biography, and two articles of the time list both Hans de Veil and Jonathan Swift as authors, so I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt: if you believe I shouldn't, please let me know! Thank you for your questions, and I'm glad you like my article, I shall try to improve it further! 858rine (talk) 15:46, 26 November 2015 (UTC)
The Old Bailey
[edit]I have some questions! I am searching information about this topic through JSTOR and wondering if there is another internet sources or offline sources that I can use. Also, in the old bailey webpage, there is information about the building itself. Do I have to expand through this, or start in a new way? Sorry for wide question. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jisu987 (talk • contribs) 21:40, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

New article
[edit]Hello, I received your message on my talkpage. Yes I am doing a 12 credits course. I would like to ask you if I should do it with the same deadline. Because I am afraid I won't have time to finish it before next week. I was thinking about maybe working on Colonel Jack as I appreciated reading it. Thank you --JMChaleat (talk) 12:29, 22 November 2015 (UTC)
Street Robbers
[edit]I have received your message about the possibility of making a presentation on street robbers also related to Colonel Jack. Unfortunately I have to prepare for other exams and I'll prefer to focus on my wikipedia article seeking to do a good job and improving it. These are the last weeks and I'd like to work on ' Footpads ' as best as possible. Anyway thank you for the propose, see you on Monday. Best regards. Im 2u (talk) 16:19, 22 November 2015 (UTC)
Various suggestions (William Spiggot article)
[edit]Thank you for your suggestions. I am actually reading the article you suggested, McKenzie's. According to you is it better to describe the peine forte et dure in a new paragraph in the article about William Spiggot, explaining the term and what French is used? Because I would thing that readers would go directly on the linked page of Peine forte et dure. What do you think? Thank you. --JMChaleat (talk) 19:24, 25 November 2015 (UTC)
Wikiproject Bounty (Reward)
[edit]I'm reading a lot of trials in oldbaileyonline.org but I can't find examples of rewards being paid. Do you have any advice? Best regards. Patrick.ucciardo (talk) 18:26, 27 November 2015 (UTC)
Re Bounty
[edit]Thank you very much! I found something last night but I'll definitely follow your advices. I have one more question: for Monday class I was thinking of print the entire article and the questionnaire, but also a copy of my sandbox in which you can find all my project. Do you think is a good idea? See you on Monday! Patrick.ucciardo (talk) 15:04, 28 November 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help.
