Holland

Hi. I don't care much about the source. The name Holland as a substitute for the Netherlands is simply wrong. Within the Netherlands, there hasn't been a Holland ever since 1840. Fnorp (talk) 11:20, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

Well, that's what the supporting source says. I've simply followed WP:VERIFY. Please discuss at the article's talk or at WT:AIRLINE to see the way to handle this.--Jetstreamer Talk 15:49, 19 March 2015 (UTC)
Well, the source has got it wrong. Inform yourself about the difference between Holland and the Netherlands instead. Why insist on using an archaic name for a part of the country instead of the real name of the whole country while all other names in that sentence are names of countries too? How is that attitude helping the accuracy of Wikipedia? See [[1]]. I'm reverting your edit. There is no country Holland, there is no province or county of that name. Holland ended in 1840. Fnorp (talk) 11:27, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
I used the material included in the source. I'll be adding a footnote with a clarification.--Jetstreamer Talk 11:55, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
Right, thanks. Sorry to see though that you think that me trying to get the facts right is refusing "to accept a basic policy". Holland is not the Netherlands, that's a simple basic fact. I shouldn't have to have a "silly dispute" about it in the first place. Fnorp (talk) 12:25, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
I think you're being a touch aggressive here. You could just make the correction without all the associated vitriol. Do you expect the same reaction of Germans insisting on Deutschland when English speakers use Germany? What if they insisted on people using the name of their language as 'Deutsch' and from the Netherlands as 'Nederlandersich?'That's right - it would be seen as pedantic and more than a little ridiculous. Archaic names often persist in different languages, and through common use are not archaic in those places. Whether or not the name Holland has the same usage in the Netherlands, and whatever its strictly technical definition, the name Holland is in common usage in English as an alternate name of the country, and it has been for centuries. Here I am playing Humpty Dumpty - the word means exactly what I want it to mean, no more and no less.Mdw0 (talk) 03:55, 2 April 2015 (UTC)
I think that an encyclopedia should try to get the facts right. Your examples ("Nederlandersich", really?) indicate that you have no idea what this is about. This is not a matter of whether or not Germany should be called Germany in English, it's a matter of whether it should be called Prussia. Or whether it's OK to call Great-Britain England. KLM (& AF) connections from Ottawa Rail Station

This is KLM's home site in Canada: https://www.klm.com/home/ca/en
I don't know whether it's accessible from other countries.
Click the "From" dialogue box - and Ottawa Rail Station (XDS) will drop-down.
The code XDS doesn't work at all websites, but it certainly works at KLM & AF sites!
KLM & AF provide bus connections (separately!) to and from YUL. Usually for $0, but not always.
Let me know if this isn't enough.

Airlines serve airports, not train stations. Take to WT:AIRLINE.--Jetstreamer Talk 02:29, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

Seems to me that airlines serve passengers! And a smart airline will pick up / drop off passengers wherever they want to start from or go to. So, as smart airlines, AF & KLM serve Ottawa in this manner. The buses even have flight numbers! Did you check my link?
I added this info in good faith to help anyone who happens to visit this page. This is the first time - to my knowledge - that anyone has treated any of my contributors in this manner. I'm reluctant to re-add it without some assurance that my work won't be removed again.
PMJzz (talk) 00:52, 29 March 2015 (UTC)

It will be removed, actually. If for any given reason an airline picks you up at a hotel, will you say that the airline serves that hotel and add the name of the hotel in the article? I don't think so.--Jetstreamer Talk 01:51, 29 March 2015 (UTC)

I note that neither of your replies addresses the verifiable info I provided. Your comment about hotel pick-ups was a red-herring - but staying with the facts, one can't book a ticket from a hotel, whereas one can book a ticket from, or to, XDS.
Noting your threat, I won't waste my time re-adding accurate and useful info to your page. Selfishly, it doesn't particularly bother me, because I already have the info. But taking a wider view, it is those users who don't have this info who will lose out.
That's unfortunate.

Turkish Airlines - Bogotá

In the source that was provided, there was a date indicated, but it also said that the route had still to be approved (which was expected, but I assume, not certain or official). Then, I'd be rather reserved about including (already) Bogotá in the future destinations, with a determined date to start those operations. I have been editing the map of the destinations. I'll put Colombia in dark blue, if a more asservative source is provided and/or in the other Wikipedias (namely the Turkish!) there is a consensus about this new destination. Removal of planespotters.net from airline articles

Hello Jetstreamer!

I see you have removed a reference to planespotters.net which I had placed on Biman Bangladesh Airlines due to it being an unreliable source. I always had my doubts on that site (for various reasons), but used it anyway due to the fact it was used on other airline pages, notably: Regent Airways, United Airways, Novoair and US-Bangla Airlines. I understand the articles I mentioned aren't as well monitored as Biman, but they have references from the site being used nonetheless. Now that I am sure of its unreliability, should I have it removed from them? There could be other articles using it too.

I would like to point out, to date, I haven't really found anything on planespotters.net which I could definitely label incorrect either from personal knowledge or with info from reliable sources. Moreover, many articles use the site to cite important details. Let me know what you think should be done, feel free to do anything on your own as I might not be available for the next few days.

Thanks

Rihaz (Talk to meStuff I did) 17:29, 16 April 2015 (UTC)

@Rihazrihazrihaz: Hello Rihaz, it's good to stay in touch again. For the cases you mention, I do not recommend to remove the source from that articles unless more reliable sources are found. Typically, the information provided by the airline should be enough to support the fleet table, but there are carriers that do not give out this (e.g. Libyan Airlines), so an alternative should be found. The unreliability of Planespotters.net, ch-aviation or Airfleets has been raised by many users a number of times, but they keep being used massively accross airline articles. Specifically for Biman Bangladesh Airlines, I believe there's no need to supplement the information provided by the airlines itself. Please note that, given that this official info does not include the recently incorporated Dash 8s, there's a separate reference included for these aircraft. Hope this helps. Do not hesitate to contact me for anything else. Regards.--Jetstreamer Talk 17:51, 16 April 2015 (UTC)
All right, those refs stay where they are then. However, I do believe we should maintain the same standard for all articles and so not allow questionable sites to be used anywhere.

Tehran Imam Khomeini Airport

Hi. I don't understand why you removed the map from Tehran Imam Khomeini Airport. Is it something bad with it? Shouldn't it be there?

I would like to get a good answer from you. Well you know how it feels when you spend hours on something and someone else just deletes it by one single click... AminC99 (talk) 16:55, 5 May 2015 (UTC)

The link above includes 12 Embraer aircraft operated by EgyptAir Express, which is a separate airline and has its own article. Furthermore, the fleet table was properly supported by a reference and your change was not in agreement with that reference.--Jetstreamer Talk 23:28, 7 May 2015 (UTC)

According to http://airlineroute.net/2015/05/06/ar-lhr-sep15/, Aerolineas Argentinas will be operating limited service to Heathrow in the months of October and September 2015. A user continues to add it but it was removed. It looks like it will operate as one-off special occasion charter flights (and it doesn't seem to be a regular service hence the words "limited service") but I am not sure it is notable to include in the table. Citydude1017 (talk) 04:27, 8 May 2015 (UTC)

@Citydude1017: To me, it seems the airline will operate these flights as a prospection to evaluate the re-opening of the Buenos Aires–London route. I don't see any problem with their inclusion.--Jetstreamer Talk 13:21, 8 May 2015 (UTC)

Qatar Airways

Why does the source not support the number? At least in my world 43 (which is supported by the source I provided) minus 3 equals 40! SideshowBob7 (talk) 11:58, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

WP:VERIFY requires a citation that directly supports the changes. What you're doing is original research.--Jetstreamer Talk 12:20, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

You've got to be kidding ! That's simple math (although obviously to high for some people!) and not original research! SideshowBob7 (talk) 17:30, 11 May 2015 (UTC) And since you seem to like policies so much you might want to have a look at this one: WP:IAR and this one: WP:CALC SideshowBob7 (talk) 17:39, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

@SideshowBob7: I don't think I have a problem neither with simple nor wih complex maths, I have a Ph.D. Aside from that, nobody reading the article can possibly guess the way the Qatar Airway's order book changed since December. WP:VERIFY is crystal clear and WP:CALC mentions consensus among editors. Where's your consensus? And it doesn't mater if I like policies or not, they are there to be followed. As I once said to you, do not edit Wikipedia if you're not prepared to stick to these policies.--Jetstreamer Talk 21:19, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Royal Air Maroc fleet

You removed the 747 entry with valid reference citing wiki policy stating leased aircraft are not to be listed, so can the 777-200 and Dash 8 be removed from Biman fleet since they are leased too. 139.190.230.234 (talk) 14:56, 10 May 2015 (UTC)

Absolutely. You may proceed.--Jetstreamer Talk 21:14, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
I wont because it dosent make sense, as two distinct types will not be shown as part of fleet, leading to the article appearing as outdated or factually incorrect, thats the point I wanted to make. 98.124.175.72 (talk) 21:49, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

Placement of Portals

Hello Jetstremer, you reverted an edit regarding the placement of a Portalbar stating that Portals are not external links. That's correct, but before lecturing others, you should read the guidelines for the use of Portalbars which you can find here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Portal_bar. I quote: "Within articles, this template is usually placed at the bottom of the article just above the navboxes." (and NOT at the "see also"-section) which was correcty done and has been criticised by you as wrong, which it isn't. You can discuss if the use of Portalbars instead of Portals makes sense, but don't lecture others based on your lack of knowledge of the rules you seem to refer to. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.171.148.3 (talk) 10:23, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

Here you can find a link to the guidelines supporting my position. This discussion already took place at Talk:Germanwings Flight 9525.--Jetstreamer Talk 10:26, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

Poorly sourced content added (and re-added) again at Mexico City International Airport

This [2] edit is the last one of many that added content not supported by the reference provided. I don't know why

from WP:VERIFY is so difficult to understand. I won't continue the back and forth additions and removals. Instead, I'm requesting admin help to solve this. Please note that protection of the page had been requested [3], but it was declined.--Jetstreamer Talk 10:45, 14 May 2015 (UTC)

The WP:VERIFY policy stands. A single incident of this does not merit the article and the policy while states the intent, there are many possible means of resolution including using the {{cn}} template. Further, the information does not appear to be incorrect. According to this source it would appear that Volaris will have a connection from Mexico City International Airport to Chetumal International Airport. While the burden is on the original editor to provide a viable source, it also appears they're a less experienced editor (as indicated in their attempt to add a photo gallery) AND it's possible the source they provided does contain that information. It's difficult to tell because it's behind a java UI where that information needs to be pulled. I suggest some patience and understanding is forwarded to them. Also be aware that most of the flight destinations are not supported by a reference. It's likely they're copying what has already been done in the article. If you removed that piece of information, it's possible they would take that as a cue and gut most of the article (by which against WP:VERIFY they could also do since most of it is unreferenced). The key in verify is "contentious" material. The rest can be improved upon as the article grows. Not all articles are expected to be perfect from their start. Mkdwtalk 18:47, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
@Mkdw: Thanks for replying. I'll be using the source you provided above. The information could be correct, but it was not supported by any of the sources the user provided, I tried to tell them this but they thought they was doing right.--Jetstreamer Talk 22:24, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

Just a question

I came across this list: List of airlines of Kosovo, and what called my attention was the alleged Air Prishtina founded in 1981. At that time, Prishtina and Kosovo were part of Serbia, within Yugoslavia, and I am not an expert but I can say I am familiarized with the airlines events that happened there in history. As early as 1970s there were some minor regional airliners in Yugoslavia (besides the major ones), but I never heard about Air Prishtina. Now, from what I saw on their website, seems that ever since the beginning till now they were only a simple travel agency offering flight seats at real airlines operating in the airports in the region (namely Pristina and Skopje as it seems). So I am not sure if then they can qualify really as an airliner. Here they talk about their partners for flight operations (from what I read they have zero planes of their own), and even in their history article I also fail to see any plane mentioned, not even leased ones. I am not wanting to be too bold and remove Air Prishtina from the List of airlines of Kosovo without having your opinion first. It is not anything urgent btw, have a look whenever you have time and tell me what you think. Best regards, FkpCascais (talk) 02:10, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

@FkpCascais: I've searched across Flightglobal. No results for Air Prishtina.--Jetstreamer Talk 20:38, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
OK, so I can definitely remove it then. Many thanks for help! FkpCascais (talk) 21:19, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

MINISTRO PISTARINI AIRPORT (BUENOS AIRES)

Hi, Jetstreamer. I made a few additions to the page, but I think the information I put doesn´t need any sources. It´s just a fact of everyday´s life. Where do you find a source to verify that transportation to and from airports is -and has always been- a problem in Argentina? It´s something any Argentinian (or somebody who´s travelled to the country) will agree with. Regards — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.245.226.227 (talk) 00:02, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

Copa Airlines leaving SkyTeam.

Hello Jetstreamer,

To clarify, Copa Airlines left SkyTeam the same time as Continental Airlines (now merged with United Airlines) left SkyTeam as well on October 24, 2009 (to join Star Alliance). Continental Airlines and Copa Airlines were partners and shared the same frequent flyer program until the former fully merged with United Airlines in 2012. That same year, Copa Airlines fully joined Star Alliance as a member. I think a full date (October 24, 2009) for Copa Airlines leaving SkyTeam should be provided as oppose just the year that Copa Airlines left SkyTeam; it should be more or less specific. If you have any concerns, please reply and we can discuss.

Sincerely,

flynas wiki page

Dear Jetstreamer,

How do you do? I am the Web Content Manager for flynsa (KSA) and will be updating the wikipedia page for flynas going forward. THanks very much for your efforts so far in keeping the page up to date. I have already carried out some major editing to correct inaccurate information relating to our future network plans - we are not about to start a route to the US!

If you have any questions please let me know.

Regards,

Richard Slater rslater@flynas.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ramslater1 (talkcontribs) 13:53, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

@Ramslater1: Don't have questions but a comment. What you did in this [5] edit is an unexplained removal of content. I have reverted it because it is supported by a reliable source. Given that Flynas is not the official page of the airline and that it seems you're on the first steps of editing Wikipedia, I suggest you to read the core content policies. Best.--Jetstreamer Talk 21:52, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

Dear Jetstreamer,

I have re removed the content and explained its deletion - the sources cited are reliable but well out of date (regarding potential new routes) and are all superseded by the much more recent articles referenced (17,31,32) which announced the end of the Global Routes Program and thus signified that the routes to destinations such as Nigeria and Chine will not happen. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ramslater1 (talkcontribs) 06:07, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

Apologies - I meant to write articles 17,27,28 - not 17,31,32. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ramslater1 (talkcontribs) 06:10, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

I don't see anything wrong with mentioning that there were plans to start those routes despite the airline subsequently shelved them. The content has been restored and the Airline project has been informed about your actions. Again, the article is not the airline's official website and we have policies regarding content.--Jetstreamer Talk 10:29, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

That's nice to know - I do see something wrong with providing outdated, erroneous information. Looking across several other airline pages, this is not standard practice at all. Appreciate it isn't the airline's official page, but shouldn't the information be as up to date and factually correct as possible? Ramslater1 (talk) 11:38, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

The information is supported by reliable sources, as required by basic policies. That's enough for inclusion. And the information is not inaccurate, as it says the airline once intended to fly to some destinations. It doesn't claim it actually does.--Jetstreamer Talk 21:17, 7 June 2015 (UTC)

Ethiopian Airlines Flight 604: Revision history

Greetings, the change I made for this aviation accident was from the first source, "http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=19880915-0" which had been previously sourced in the article after "At the time of the accident the aircraft was less than a year old" under source 1.

I would prefer to discuss the re-removal before there is another revert as to prevent WP:3RR. My main reasoning behind adding this was the fact that the majority of other major airline disasters have the accident description from either the FAA/ICAO. I am personally reading it, but adding the source as well as well as changing it slightly to add another link within the article to bird strike. --KoRoBeNiKi SSBWiki Rollback Moderator and chess specialist 13:29, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

Bird strike as a possible cause of the accident was already mentioned in the first paragraph of the ″Accident description″ section. I've reverted your edit. And please check your spelling before hitting the ″Save changes″ button.--Jetstreamer Talk 00:50, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

Template:Date

I noticed your recent edit to Aeroflot. There are good reasons why {{date}} should not be used in mainspace, and especially not to supply an argument to citation templates:

  • See Template:Date#Description. Note that it says, in bold, "This template should only be used internally in other templates." In other words, it should not be used directly within mainspace articles, but only as a sub-template within another template.
  • This is reinforced in the citation template documentation. See Template:Cite_news#COinS: Use of templates within the citation template is discouraged because many of these templates will add extraneous HTML or CSS that will be rendered in the metadata.

I would add that {{date}} in this context is pointless: it does nothing useful and merely serves to clutter up the article.

I have therefore removed these templates from Aeroflot. Regards, NSH002 (talk) 17:11, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

I need your help. An IP continue to restore flags to that list as WP:AIRLINE-DEST-LIST and MOS:FLAGS says no flags in airline destination list. The IP will revert again. However, I have left a message at his talk page, directing him to the links provided, I have also requested semi-protection to the article. Can you keep an eye on the page. Unsourced, unreliable information

Hello Jetstreamer,

If I was caught in any wrong-doing, I would like to sincerely apologize for my mistakes. I believed the sources that were being inserted were clear and concise, as well as proper. If these sources are not described in this way, I would like to extend my apologies to the Wikipedia community and the parties involved. The reason for repeating my editing is because I believed that these corrections were both factual and critical to a more informed audience on the topic of the Wikipedia page. It is my understanding that, because of these edits, that an independent review of these edits and my ignorance of the warnings that were given are currently being discussed. I hope that this issue can be resolved in a mature and orderly manner. If you would like to comment or make a suggestion to me, please do. I would love to hear your feedback in order to ensure this does not happen again. Thank you very much for your contributions to Wikipedia, and once again, I do apologize for any wrong-doings or errors that I caused, and any inconvenience that I have caused you, or the Wikipedia community as a whole. Warmest regards, and keep editing to make a bigger, better, and factual Wikipedia that can be trusted! Hopefully, my editing skills will improve as time goes on. Thanks again!

Reply for Unreliable sources

Hello again,

I do commit not to add any unreliable sources that may compromise the information seen on any Wikipedia page. I will have to do some reading and studying on proper editing, and possibly look at some tutorials or examples of these things. Thanks for messaging back.

Zhayden123 (talk) 22:17, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

@Zhayden123: Good to hear. The thread at WP:ANI has been withdrawn [6]. Please do take a look at WP:VERIFY before attempting to add any kind of unsourced content again. Please also note that the best way of collaborating with the project is to discuss any change anytime it has been reverted with a proper explanation in the edit summary. A good place for inquiries regarding airline-related articles is WT:AIRLINE, where a number of project-related editors (myself included) can assist you with anything you might ask.--Jetstreamer Talk 22:26, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi. There seem to be some ediors constantly warring to add dest maps back to the article. Not sure if they are meatpuppets or socks or just three editors who happen to want the same unwanted thing to be added. There also seems to be an addition of Top international destinations to the article which was I'm pretty sure decided not to be added. I'm sick and tired of reverting these edits as it's making the page look a lot more ugly. Could you please monitor the page?  LeoFrank  Talk 10:35, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

Atlasglobal UA revision

Hello Jetstreamer, it is annoying that you remove updates of the new schedule of Atlasglobal UA which have been published on their website. These flights are available to book, and based on the reservation engine it's possible to find out the start date. If you really want to do something positive for Wikipedia, then please write an article about Atlasglobal UA as it's a new airline in Ukraine. You have recently removed the routes Lviv-Istanbul, Kharkiv-Istanbul and Odessa-Istanbul. Please have a look at the website of the airline and you will see when these routes are being opened.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.75.202.15 (talkcontribs)

All I did was to follow WP:VERIFY, a basic policy.--Jetstreamer Talk 00:39, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

Your approach makes it very difficult for people to publish the latest information on Wikipedia. According to WP:VERIFY a reliable source should be used. I believe there is no better source in this case than the timetables and booking engine as published on the website of the airline. All newspapers will use this information to write their articles, so what is the sense to wait for an (English written?) article about the new routes? Please have a look once again at the website of Atlasglobal and you will see that everything is published in their timetable and you will be able to book these flights [1] [2].— Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.75.202.15 (talkcontribs)

Hi, I was looking for a source about Alitalia CityLiner and SkyTeam, and another user has found two sources: The first source (http://www.wegotravel.ch/it/compagnie-aeree/alitalia-cityliner-ct) says clearly that Alitalia CityLiner is a SkyTeam member, but I don't know if It is a reliable source. The second one is from Alitalia website (http://www.alitalia.com/it_it/millemiglia/programma/regolamento/edizione-2013-2015.html) where is written (in Italian) that in this document the writing "la compagnia" (the airline) relates to Alitalia and Alitalia CityLiner, and later says that "la compagnia" is partner of SkyTeam. Correction of "Delta Airlines" to "Delta Air Lines"

Correction of "Delta Airlines" to "Delta Air Lines" is not a violation of WP:UNBROKEN. It is actually correction of a spelling error since "Delta Airlines" is not the correct spelling and therefore should be changed to the correct spelling of "Delta Air Lines". This is actually noted at WP:UNBROKEN as a good reason to change a link. Please do not revert such corrections, thank you. 2602:30A:2EFE:F050:884:A54E:F6D5:C2AF (talk) 22:39, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

Delta Airlines/Air Lines on Vietnam Airlines

Hi,

I corrected a typo on Vietnam Airlines, where "Delta Air Lines" was erroneously written "Delta Airlines" (that's a common mistake). You reverted my edit, and pointed to WP:BROKEN: could you please read it again? It states that "Good reasons to bypass redirects include [...] Spelling errors and other mistakes should be corrected. Don't link to a misspelled redirect". Since Vietnam Airlines is obviously talking about Delta Air Lines in the ref, and since there's obviously a spelling error in that ref (yes, references can have mistakes sometimes), I don't see why "Delta Airlines" should be kept instead of "Delta Air Lines".

Slasher-fun (talk) 21:01, 30 November 2015 (UTC)

That's not a spelling error. It's the name appearing in the supporting source. This is another proof that you do not understand WP:VERIFY. Read it and then we can discuss this further.--Jetstreamer Talk 21:03, 30 November 2015 (UTC)
That is a spelling error in the supporting source. Delta Airlines does not exist, it is called Delta Air Lines. Easy way to see that the source has a typo: it links to Delta conditions of carriage, which state "Unless otherwise provided, any reference to “Delta” in this document refers to Delta Air Lines, and also refers to the Delta Shuttle, and the Delta Connection carriers". If you think every reference is 100% reliable, including this one, then why not also turn the KLM link into "Royal Dutch Airlines", or the El Al link into "Israel Airlines"? Sources in Airline/Airport Info Box

I added a source per your request on ABX Air for the hubs it has. Generally though sources are left off hubs in the infoboxes per WP:Airport, and put somewhere in the article. Usually sources are only added if someone challenges the status of the hub. I think it is pretty clear though that these two aiprots are ABX's hubs if you look at the destination lists with 27 from CVG and 15 from MIA. Unless you somehow want to challenge this, although it is on their website as I cited, the sources should not be there. Also, looking at your edit history, you tend to revert a lot of unsourced edits, which is very appropriate and awesome in most cases, but I would caution you to read WP pages on the particular topic before reverting every unsourced edit. Sorry if I sounded rude at all, that is not my intent. Thanks. Stinger20 (talk) 02:18, 18 December 2015 (UTC)

Regarding your reversion of my spelling corrections to Bulgarian cities in Balkan Bulgarian Airlines

Hi Jetstreamer, this is regarding your recent revert linked here: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Balkan_Bulgarian_Airlines&diff=698248687&oldid=698243500

I do see the source you used, it opens to the correct page and everything. My contention is that source itself has typos on the spelling of Gorna Oryahovitsa and Stara Zagora, and that Philippopolis has not been used as a name for Plovdiv since the middle ages, certainly not in the 1950's. I think most of this should be apparent by naming of those cities in both Wikipedia and Google Maps (notice that you need to redirect the internal links for those city articles to correct for the typos/outdated names).

Let me know what you think! MrChupon (talk) 23:46, 4 January 2016 (UTC)

Hello. As always, I support the use of the names appearing in the sources backing the content.--Jetstreamer Talk 02:19, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for your prompt response. My contention is that while the current source material seems to be great for describing the state of this airline in the 1950's, it appears to be a poor source for the correct spelling/naming of these Bulgarian cities. You can see that the map in that source refers to Yugoslavia as 'Jugoslavia', yet we don't use that spelling anywhere on Wikipedia, not in the Yugoslavia article, and not even in the article we're discussing which has references to Yugoslavia within. If I had a source that listed the headquarters of United Airlines as in 'Chikago', but otherwise contained good information, surely we wouldn't need to keep that typo in the article?
I can see that this has been added and reverted in the past by others using the same logic, so I went to the trouble of sourcing the spelling of each of these cities on Google Maps, which I contend is reliable source material. I'm going to go ahead and put my edits back, please consider this before reverting again. MrChupon (talk) 05:28, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
@MrChupon: Users in the past did not provide any soures for their changes, so that's out of discussion. My concern is that it seems we have an issue with WP:VERIFY, as it requires sources directly supporting the material. You did not remove the original citation, but your addition of references close to the city names are weird. If I read the article for the first time I don't understand the logic of these references. Maybe an explanatory note will help.--Jetstreamer Talk 12:25, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

Turkish Airlines destinations map

Hello Jetstreamer! From Monday on, could you update the map that is the Turkish Airlines destinations article. I'll be away for 6 months, so I won't be able to do it, and I don't know if anyone else will do so. Thank you for your attention! Chocofrito (talk) 11:23, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

Kenya Airways Flight 431

  • The "unsourced addition" is taken directly from the report, with minimal rephrasing just to prevent copyright violations (we probably cannot simply copy paste).
  • The same is true for my following edit. It is close to the sentence in the report but it is not the same.

In both cases sentences were simplified to make them easier to read rather than to follow strict legal language, probably required for the report. I have reverted both changes. Please watch more that you are doing.

Audriusa (talk) 07:33, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

@Audriusa: Please read WP:VERIFY, WP:BURDEN. You added a totally unsourced sentence in this [20] edit. And the sourced addition is an exact copy of what appears in page 75 of the report, which is a clear copyright violation.--Jetstreamer Talk 14:05, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
The report says (literally, the conditions for a takeoff performed towards the sea and at night provided no external visual references that would have allowed the crew to be aware of the direct proximity of the sea (page 75) and also Consequently, the Commission of Inquiry recommended, on 9 August 2001, that Civil Aviation Authorities ask training organizations and operators under their authority to integrate into type rating and recurrent training programs, for crews of all aircraft likely to be subject to false stall warnings, the elements necessary to recognize and manage such a false alarm during phases of flight close to the ground. (page 76). The edits I made are based on these sentences from the report. Audriusa (talk) 16:25, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
WP:COPYVIO reads ″Even inserting text copied with some changes can be a copyright violation if there is substantial linguistic similarity in creative language or sentence structure; this is known as close paraphrasing, which can also raise concerns about plagiarism. ″ You wrote ″The takeoff performed towards the sea and at night provided no external visual references that would have allowed to be aware of the direct proximity of the sea.″ in the diff above, whereas the report reads ″the conditions for a takeoff performed towards the sea and at night provided no external visual references that would have allowed the crew to be aware of the direct proximity of the sea.″ The similarity between the words in the report and your addition is outstanding. I'm marking it as such so others can handle this properly, as you do not seem to understand this.--Jetstreamer Talk 23:37, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

Ethiopian service to JFK

ET was added to the JFK, ADD, and Lome Airport articles with service starting June 27, 2016. Nowhere in the source provided mentions June 27th only June. I think it should be removed. Also, Ethiopian had not opened ticket sales for this route yet. 166.177.187.145 (talk) 08:17, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Yes, they should be removed--Jetstreamer Talk 13:57, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Need your view on this article, an editor is removing content and replacing it with his own preferred version listing only commercial operators and that too just current ones, I dont know if he expects others to add separate list of non-commercial operators in there and a yet another separate one for former operators and another for former non-commercial operators.

Another thing that's bothersome is that he is doing away with the country-wise list format, this makes it difficult to know which country an operator belongs to, especially multiple airlines with obscure names from a single country and those with no articles in wiki that appear red, who wants to click on every airline to know which country it belongs to when they can be listed country-wise, more so having to google airlines with no aritcle in wiki, look at the list for US alone so many airlines that operated 747s with a few still using them, I find it as a viewer much better to see them all listed as under United States rather than spread out alphabetically in a single list comprised of operators from all over the world, havnig to click on each to find out how many operators were there in the US is tedious and annoying when it can be simplified.

That said the editors table does look sharper and cohesive with the table of first and last deliveries below it, maybe a country-wise table can be made using that look, alot of effort has gone into finding all former operators of 747s and doing away with that as well as the non-commercial operators is unfair on those who put in time and effort to compile the list, a more reliable reference source airfleets.net can be used to verify most current and former operators as well.139.190.165.199 (talk) 07:53, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

I started a discussion at the article's talk.--Jetstreamer Talk 13:19, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, it took alot of effort to compile that list, deleting info because the sourced sites arent considered valid is a tad too rigid, let it be to viewers discretion what they make of it, atleast there are references rather than none.139.190.165.199 (talk) 15:12, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

Qatar Airways article edit

I've been around Wikipedia for 12 years, and I was an administrator on one of the Slavic versions. However, I don't want to use that username, so I'm just using my IP from where I live. I do understand that you need sources, in a perfect world, source enough would be the fact that I work for the company so I know very well what kind of aircraft I fly on, but alas, I do understand the rules.

Therefor, I'll ask you to provide sources for the aircraft configurations that are shown in the article as of now, and then I can provide mine and finally update the article to the current configurations.

Reversion of my edits to Turkish Airlines

Hi Jetstreamer, I noticed you recently reverted my edits to the article on Turkish Airlines, stating that the targeting of a Turkish Airlines aircraft by Al-Shabaab is not notable because "cancellations occur all the time". I would disagree, it does seem notable to me as the group stated that they targeted Turkish Airlines because they are the flag carrier of a NATO state and to target intelligence officals and NATO soldiers. Aeroflot destinations

What neutral sources do you propose for Aeroflot destinations ? For destinations specifically, not for politics around our unification w/Russia! Francois (talk) 11:34, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

(edit conflict)The change you made seems less neutral to me, regardless of the Aeroflot schedule. The schedule says the airline serves Simferopol, there's no discussion about this. The concern here is the location of the city, and the article for it clearly states the country this city is located in is in dispute.--Jetstreamer Talk 11:38, 18 February 2016 (UTC)
Can we neutralize it by saying "Russia/Ukraine" with ref: "status disputed"? This us what we do in Russian WP. BTW, Ukrainian government now bans Aeroflot, or any other Russian company, from flying to any airports in the Ukraine. Francois (talk) 12:02, 18 February 2016 (UTC)

Brussels Airlines

Hello Jetstreamer,

The mentioned 737-300 (OO-LTM) is in a derelict condition at Brussels Airport. Currently it's on a position which is not photographable. Brussels Airlines has not operated the plane in its own fleet since it was transferred to Korongo Airlines.

I'm a planespotter with 15 years of experience, so you can trust me that I'm not talking b*llshit here ;-)

ZAG title

Hi, I'm answering here to avoid a possible long discussion on that page. Could you please tell me which dispute is remained unsolved? I supposed that situation about title was clear after all because you didn't answer anymore. ZPσβ (talk) 11:38, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

I have nothing to reply to. I'm against the move and the only comment after my last one and your last one at Talk:Zagreb International Airport mentioned WP:COMMONNAME. Two users are in favour of the move, and other two editors are against. That's no consensus at all.--Jetstreamer Talk 11:43, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
I read comments once again when you mentioned 2:2 result. The situation is 3:1 (users Ansh, SpeedyGonsales, ZuriPolako have nothing against renaming) and from that point I wrote that title should be changed, ZPσβ (talk) 11:54, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
SpeedyGonsales did not openly support your proposal.--Jetstreamer Talk 20:24, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
Err... Yes, he did. He wrote "FFS, this wikipedia is full of examples that accuracy is more important than some commonality, from HIV/AIDS or Martin Luther King, Jr. onwards. WP:COMMONNAME can be (and/or should be) redirect to full, official name, in this case." And his further explanation goes for giving a preference to accuracy than to commonality if we read correctly. ZPσβ (talk) 21:24, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
If that's your interpretation I won't block the intended move further. It is true that users had enough time to discuss, so you may proceed. The article can be moved back to the current name at any time if this is decided in the future.--Jetstreamer Talk 21:36, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

Before any change, I will put some comment about our discussion on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Airports so that can be clear we don't have a big dispute anymore (of course, we have still different opinions which are legitimate). And I just want to ask you regarding to your experience on Wikipedia, what to do if someone arbitrarily change a title? How to repair the title in that case? ZPσβ (talk) 22:11, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

It will help that someone not involved in the discussion closes it.--Jetstreamer Talk 22:48, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

ET 757 Retirement

Since you frequently edit the Ethiopian Airlines page, I thought I'd get your opinion...

I'm not sure if airlineroute.net is a reliable source, but it seems like ET is planning to end Boeing 757 passenger service in May (See Link 2). But an earlier source stated it would end this month (See Link 1). I'll let you make the final decision on the changes that should be made to the page.

PS: If you don't remember who I am, you got me blocked for sockpuppetry a while ago. I just want you to know that I've changed.

I see how you changed. WP:BATTLEGROUND clearly persists [22].--Jetstreamer Talk 22:37, 18 April 2016 (UTC)
@Jetstreamer:, I fail to see how I'm "fighting" with you, and how "WP:BATTLEGROUND clearly persists". You removed an edit, and said "Not going anywhere without a source". I properly added two sources to reference the my edit, but yet you fail to see it as a good addition. And I'm also pointing out how you'd always post redundant messages on IP, or registered user's talk pages after they make incorrect edits to point out the nuisance in this practice. You are not always correct you know. You act like an admin when you are not. You may have been on Wikipedia for a long time, and you may have a lot of experience editing, but I do not see a title that says you are an admin. Last, I have reinstated the edit you removed at Oman Air. Let me add, the article that is behind paywall as you say in your edit summary does the job as a source. It briefly AND CLEARLY explains how the airline will wet-lease two 787s from Kenya Airways. It clearly says that before you are not able to read the rest of the article. Please see it as a good edit for once. And I suggest you to refrain from removing it, as it may be considered as an edit war (as a truely experienced editor like you should know). Please carry on with more important issues now. --Triple A (talk) 15:19, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
I never said I was an admin. And I referred to your edit summary, not to your changes. By the way, your changes are not in agreement with WP:AIRLINE-FLEET-LIST as no wet-leased aircraft are to be included in fleet lists.--Jetstreamer Talk 18:54, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

Vietnam Airlines

Hi, I noticed that you had reverted my change in Vietnam Airlines due to Added sources do not say how many aircraft of each type are in fleet, although my source, from Vietnam Airlines don't say how many air craft but the air craft configuration is more correct than source from ch-aviation. I doubt that source from ch-aviation is correct, too.

Hence, please keep my change which shows correctly the configuration of Vietnam Airlines's aircraft.

The last time, you had reverted my change due to Planespotters is not a reliable source and new orders are not firm yet according to sources given, however as far as I can observe, the fleet information from Plane Spotters matched with information provided by Vietnam Airlines information which can be observed through flightradar24. But I agree it's less reliable than other source since it works like a forum, however the reliability of ch-aviation is still in debate, see Talk:Alitalia/Archive 1#Fleet issue.

I still suggest to re-work my change since it's the most reliable source by now. 0x44616E68 (talk) 03:54, 22 April 2016 (UTC)

I have reverted your changes again. If you start a discussion you have to wait for the response before reverting. That's basic courtesy. Aside from this, your changes do not support the number of aircraft in fleet. Moreover, planespotters is not a reliable source. You may want to start a thread at WT:AIRLINES to gain consensus for its use. The citations you added only support seat configurations. They can only be used for this purpose.--Jetstreamer Talk 12:38, 22 April 2016 (UTC)
