Conflict of interest - Notice
[edit]Hello, Jeremy Mark Noble. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may need to consider our guidance on conflicts of interest.
All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.
If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:
- Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
- Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
- Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
- Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.
Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.
For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Cavarrone (talk) 11:19, 6 November 2012 (UTC)
Hello, my apologies for not replying sooner to your notice about COI but I have been writing the English language version of a screenplay by one of Russia's most well-known film directors; the film is in pre-production, and is set for filming early next year. I have read the information about COI very carefully. Of course, at first glance it might seem that I am too close to the subject of Jeremy Noble, but, about a week or so ago I did check with your colleagues at the webchat help page, to ask about notability; I was told that notability had been proved, but that the references needed improving and reformatting; this I have done. I have not written the article for any financial gain, or PR and marketing purposes. It is not unknown for a writer to include himself in an encyclopedia: Denis Diderot, chief editor of the landmark 18th century Encyclopedie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Encyclop%C3%A9die), which might be said to be the direct forebear of Wikipedia, wrote any number of articles for the encyclopedia, including one about himself. File permission problem with File:Jeremy Noble by Vladimir Drozdin.pdf
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Jeremy Noble by Vladimir Drozdin.pdf. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.
If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.
If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 21:30, 7 November 2012 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (File:Jeremy Noble, photograph by Vladimir Drozdin.pdf)
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Jeremy Noble, photograph by Vladimir Drozdin.pdf. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:14, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
The article Jeremy Noble has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Self-promotional article with no evidence of notability. Most of the references are by, rather than about, Noble, many merely include his name in cast lists or make other brief mentions, some don't mention him at all, others are not independent sources.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. JamesBWatson (talk) 11:47, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Please do not write or add to an article about yourself, as you apparently did at Jeremy Noble (writer). Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. I see that, despite the message you received nine days ago about conflict of interest, you have continued to edit your autobiographical article extensively. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeremy_Noble Hello, a week ago I was talking with your colleagues on the webchat help page about the page for Jeremy Noble, and I was told that notability had been satisfactorily answered but that the references needed improving, primarily formatting; I improved the formatting during the past week and added other independent references. Today, I see that the question of notability has again been brought up. Also, I see that a reference to a film I co-wrote, The Sun, directed by Alexander Sokurov, has been deleted; this seems strange because many people would say that Sokurov is the greatest living Russian film director. The Sun had its premiere at the Berlin Film Festival, and was nominated for the Golden Bear award... Jeremy Mark Noble (talk) 17:04, 15 November 2012 (UTC)
I do understand that independent peer reviews of a person’s work and achievements are important; for example, one of my books about the Russian ballet, titled “A Century of Russian Ballet: Desk Diary 2000” was reviewed by the two ‘bibles’ of the dance world: in the UK, Dancing Times (published since 1910) wrote: "This is certainly a diary that will find a place on our bookshelves for years to come." In the US, Dance Magazine wrote, “I don't think I have seen anything more beautiful in Russian ballet, except the ballet itself. Treat yourself." Jeremy Noble article update
[edit]Hi. I communicated with the user that recently proposed the article for deletion. He stated that he accepted the reasoning for contesting the proposed deletion and did not have any immediate plans to nominate the article for deletion. As we discussed previously, the best course at this point is probably to not edit the article any more, but instead participate in discussions about the article on its talk page in order to avoid a conflict of interest. You can even add sources to the talk page for other users to add to the article. Thank you again for contributing to Wikipedia, and I hope you stay and edit other articles as well. --Odie5533 (talk) 10:08, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
