BONZZO The Comic Strip & John Rivas pages

Hi Jeff:

I am redoing this pages, as I am Mr. Rivas personal assistant and his page is incomplete and there should be 2 pages, one for BONZZO The Comic Strip & a John Rivas page. I am new to editting this in Wikipedia, but I am trying to do my best, I will include all the associated articles as soon as I can figure how :)

Also, how can I add things not mentioned anywhere only known by him without any citation or related article?

I will be working on this weekend.

Please dont delete it

Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by GenovevaT (talkcontribs) 05:03, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

I have posted some help on your user talk page. Specifically to your question, you may not "add things not mentioned anywhere only known by him without any citation or related article" per WP:BLP and WP:VRS. See also WP:REFB.   — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 00:31, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

User 82.19.20.43

Hello Jeff G, I noticed that you have placed a message on the above users Talk Page. Since then 82.19.20.43 has made a cosiderable number of "edits" to the List of ceremonial counties of England article and also the John Torode page. None of these "edits" appear to be backed-up with refs and look like vandalism. Should a block be put on this user to prevent further disruption to articles? With best regards, David J Johnson (talk) 22:42, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

It will if that user does it again, after my last warning. Thanks for your vigilance.   — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 00:39, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

User: 75.175.250.1 (unexplained removals of content from UN pages)

Hi, I noticed you also noticed IP 75.175.250.1 blanking out bits of the UN Security Council Resolution pages, and helpfully put a warning on his Talk page. He seems to have additionally blanked the same documents out of several other UN pages, and other documentary content from additional pages as well. Appears to be WP:NOTHERE. My first inclination, on seeing the mass blankings was to Undo with comment "rv vandalism", as it seemed to be clearly that. I saw your revert comments, and they only noted "unexplained blanking of content"- Is this the better tag? --Robert Keiden (talk) 02:09, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi, thanks for writing. My standard "Reverted addition of unsourced content and/or unexplained removal of content" is a kinder, gentler summary that is better when the intent is not crystal clear. You can still use a template from the Template:Uw-delete1 family for unexplained deletions/removals, or from the Template:Uw-unsor1 series for unsourced additions. "vandalism" sounds worse. When the intent is clear and I am editing manually, I'll usually use "rvv", which means "reverted vandalism" but is so much shorter. When I am using rollback, the summary is automatic.   — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 03:45, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

Removal of content from Assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. explained

Hi Jeff, As I wrote in my comments when I deleted the "content" from the page about Dr. King's assassination:

deleted reference to Mayor Washington being the first black mayor of DC. He was the first mayor period.

He was the first mayor of DC. Choose any characteristic about him and he will be the first X mayor of DC. Should we also mention that Mayor Washington was the first male mayor of DC or the first mayor of DC under 80 or the first mayor of DC born in April? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.137.229.222 (talk) 03:49, 3 September 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Jeff. I declined to block this IP. I spot-checked several edits and it appeared that they were consistent with his edit summaries. I'm not saying these were desirable edits or the editor's behaviour was appropriate -- just that it did not immediately appear to meet the criteria of WP:VANDAL and the Guide to administrator intervention against vandalism

I did leave a message at User talk:74.90.121.53#Administrator's warning instructing him/her to get consensus on article talk pages before making any more article edits.

If he violates this instruction, please report him to me or any other administrator for immediate blocking.

Thanks for watching over our content. --A. B. (talkcontribs) 03:15, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

You're welcome. The editor's edits appear to be biased in order to remove all reference to the fake nature of professional wrestling. Such edits are not a net positive for the encyclopedia.   — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 03:33, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
I followed up on this IP's behaviour since our last exchange. That IP's been quiet since my warning but that may just mean that the person using that IP has switched to another IP address. Note that a WHOIS check on that IP shows it's registered to Cablevision Systems and two different geolocate searches on the address indicates it's probably located on Long Island, New York: [1][2].
The same person seems to have made similar edits from 173.251.124.19 which is registered to St. Joseph's College (also on Long Island, New York).
So keep an eye out for similar edits from IPs on Long Island. This person has been adequately warned; should they strike again without getting talkpage consensus as I instructed, they should be blocked. If I'm not around, feel free to get another administrator to do this; you can reference this discussion here and my warning at User talk:74.90.121.53#Administrator's warning.
Thanks for ongoing vigilance on our articles!

You're welcome again. If the IP stays true to form and you're not around, next step would be WP:AN, right? Thanks again.   — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 02:59, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

They are only anti-bigot. The mistakes your edits have made are in assuming that all whites are bigots (which offends me as a white non-bigot) and in attempting to force your view on Wikipedia's readership without verifiable reliable sources, after being told not to, repeatedly. Who told you "who the SPLC is"? Which group are you in? I hope you use the duration of your block to think about what you have done.   — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 03:06, 12 September 2012 (UTC)

Your SpamCop Edit 14:54, 14 September 2012

Hi, Jeff! ...Thank you for fixing the link to the SpamCop Forum entry regarding Julian's departure! ...Did you notice that SpamCop.com is already referenced in the Wikipedia entry "Fake similar organizations?" Turetzsr (talk) 19:34, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks, Steve. I plan to look into the domain ownerships and timings, hopefully later today. IIRC Julian let the .com registration lapse and one or more miscreants took it.   — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 23:01, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
To clarify, Jeff, I mentioned the other reference because it appears to me that your latest edit mentioning spamcop.com near the top of the article may be somewhat redundant. I would recommend consideration of merging the two separate references. :)   SteveT (talk) 04:31, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, those plans, which included reducing the redundancy, fell through yesterday. I hope to get to them today.   — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 15:22, 15 September 2012 (UTC)

You reverted changes that I made because I didn't leave a reason (I've never had a problem not leaving a reason for any other edit I've made to a page). The reason was because it says, "...and was that party's nominee for President in the 2008 and 2012 United States Presidential elections. He is the party's presidential nominee in the 2012 election as well..." As you can see, the second sentence is extraneous since it says that he is the party's nominee for the 2008 and 2012 elections, and the 2012 election as well. Therefore, I cut out the sentence, leaving the sources with the previous sentence which contained the same information. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.138.206.198 (talk) 18:01, 15 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the explanation.   — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 18:23, 15 September 2012 (UTC)

New category issue

Hi JeffG, I think that new editor David Regimbal has done some work populating Category:Dunhill Records artists and a few others and I also see that they do belong to the existing categorization per record lable, so I placed a hangon, because I think you misunderstood his blanking as a wish to have the category removed. JeffGBot considered harmful

Do NOT bring the bot back without changing the boilerplate it uses. Please! IMO, you MUST NOT advise people to remove dead links simply because they're dead, as you/is have done here and in hundreds of other cases. It's better if the bot check and/or users are advised to check WebCite and the IA, as I see is discussed here. HOWEVER, it is STILL a BAD idea. Often, the URL alone is enough to find the writing a dead link refers to, even if it's not at either of those archives. I've done it many times. E.g. when the URL contains enough of the title of a news article that the news article can be found by a search (non-web searches may be necessary, but often aren't) for that title or a slight tweak to the URL. DO NOT reactivate a bot that advises deletion of dead links simply because they've died.--Elvey (talk) 00:28, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

Would you care to suggest better language?   — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 23:04, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
Well, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Link_rot says: "Except for URLs in the External links section that have not been used to support any article content, do not delete a URL solely because the URL does not work any longer. Recovery and repair options and tools are available." It also offers lots of related advice that suggests better language. However, fixing/reviving the long-dormant bot that archived Wikipedia article citation URLs using WebCite or the IA (see http://faq.web.archive.org/can-i-get-just-one-page-archived/ - good news) could be a better use of resources such as your skills than improving JeffGBot.  :-) --Elvey (talk) 08:46, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for that language. Which bot did you refer to?   — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 15:20, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
I was referring to User:WebCiteBOT, which stopped running in 2009, but it it edited again for a month early this year, doing a few hundred edits, and stopped again... ALSO: Wikipedia:WikiProject_External_links/Webcitebot2 lists over a dozen related bots, two of which are active. It's worth reading that page! --Elvey (talk) 21:57, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

Articles for Creation is desperately short of reviewers! We are looking for urgent help, from experienced editors, in reviewing submissions in the pending submissions queue. Currently there are 1838 submissions waiting to be reviewed and many help requests at our Help Desk.

Do you have what it takes?
  1. Are you familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines?
  2. Do you know what Wikipedia is and is not?
  3. Do you have a working knowledge of the Manual of Style, particularly article naming conventions?
  4. Can you review submissions based on their individual merits?

If the answer to these questions is yes, then please read the reviewing instructions and donate a little of your time to helping tackle the backlog. You might wish to add {{AFC status}} or {{AfC Defcon}} to your userpage, which will alert you to the number of open submissions.

PS: we have a great AFC helper script at WP:AFCH!

New Page Patrolling

Hi. Thank you for patgrolling new pages. I'm just letting you know that I have dePRODed Oxford International College of Changzhou. The school provides a mainstream secondary education. Being unsourced is not a criterion for deletion. BTW, I have re-editied the entire article to remove all the promotional content - a task that new page patrollers can eaaily do - remember that per WP:NPP, page patrolling involves not only proposing articles for deletion, but also carrying out minor improvement tasks. If ever you need any help or advice on NPP, don't hesitate to ask me on my talk page. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 01:15, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

Policy WP:DEL-REASON states "* Articles for which thorough attempts to find reliable sources to verify them have failed" as a reason for deletion. You and others appear to have made such thorough attempts over the past 37 days, to no avail. I believe the next step after a contested PROD is AfD.   — Jeff G. ツ (talk) 01:57, 29 September 2012 (UTC)
And per WP:Outcomes#schools, we just don't delete schools that provide mainstream education anyway. At AfD they will always be either kept or redirected. If they are primary/middle, we redirect them to either the school's district article (USA) or to the school's locality, and if they are secondary, we keep them. You'll note also that schools don't even qualify for CSD. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 04:15, 29 September 2012 (UTC)

I've noticed your PRODs with text "Has no visible verifiable references from reliable sources.", and this doesn't match any of the Reasons for deletion. I'm looking now at Baphalaborwa records: created on 23 Sept, you tagged it as "Unreferenced" on 28th and then immediately PRODded it. Had you made "thorough attempts to find reliable sources to verify" the article? If not, it was too soon to PROD it, especially as it was the first edit of a new, registered, editor. Please give new articles a little more time to develop after tagging them, before PRODding them. Thanks. PamD 09:52, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

If my "article" was scheduled for a "speedy deletion", I feel sorry for people like you that have to read really horrible things that people must put up on this site. You have done me a favor in this gesture, I would never want to donate to an organization that people take nasty advantage of. At the least, I only wasted 3 hours of my lifetime than hundreds of dollars in the future. My only purpose for this identity in this organization was that temporary article, and if it is within your power I have my request for account to be deleted. Thank you -Elias M.
