Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Peranakan may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s and 2 "[]"s and 1 "{}"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
 • that, Peranakans are also well known for a wide variety of traditional cakes (kueh or [[Kue|kue) such as Lepak Kacang, Ang Ku Kue, Pineapple tart (
 • Tapae]], Kueh Kochi, Kueh Bongkong, Rempah Udang, Kueh Genggang (also known as Kueh Lapis}, Pulot Enti, Kueh Gulong (another variety is Kueh kapit) and many more.

Excessive images in "image gallery"

[edit]

Normally I don't mind having "gallery" in wikipedia articles, unless it is too much and excessive just like what you did in Kris, Mandau (knife) and Surik (sword) articles. Please read WP:MOS and refrain on flooding the page with images, use external link to wikimedia commons category instead. Thank you. Gunkarta  talk  16:40, 14 March 2014 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:Arbir PPSI.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Arbir PPSI.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

 1. Go to the file description page and add the text below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
 2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Fut.Perf. 16:19, 24 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!

[edit]

It's fairly clear you have the hang of creating articles, you don't need to submit them through AfC anymore. SImply go to the title of a new article you would like to create, and where it says (assuming that no article with that name exists) something like You may create the page "ARTICLENAME",, click where it says ARTICLENAME in red, and start editing! If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page, or alternatively at the WP:Teahouse. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Baluse, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.forensicfashion.com/1830NiasChiefShield.html.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

What does "Piso Halasan" mean?

[edit]

Hi, I just copyedited the article Piso Halasan. Thanks for creating the article! Do you know what the literal meaning of the word is? I am wondering because I am not sure if the name should be capitalized. Most kinds of weapons are not capitalized (e.g., longsword, dagger). "Piso" is used in the names of many traditional Indonesian swords; if it literally means "sword", it should probably not be capitalized. Thanks, Tdslk (talk) 07:03, 9 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. It is common for the indigenous people in the Malay archipelago to refer to things that way. For example, the Sikin Panyang. There are many types of Sikins out there but that doesn't mean you can refer to the Sikin Panyang as literally 'sikin Panyang' or just 'Panyang'. It doesn't make any sense; as there is also the Parang Panyang and Keris Panyang. Panyang means 'long'. For example, 'he used the Panyang (long) to clear the bushes.' just doesn't make any sense as to the word itself and which or what Panyang are you referring to. Same thing goes with just about anything in the ordinary everyday stuff when referring to something specific. I understand if you're seeing it from the English language standpoint, but that's not the case with the locals here. For example (correct me if I'm wrong tho) the Excalibur sword, it's not a problem to refer it as 'the Excalibur' (to drop the word 'sword' or using small caps) but never 'the Excalibur Sword'. It is a common knowledge or understanding among the locals when referring to something specific that comes with two words, you can't or don't normally separate the two or drop one of them. I don't know if I give you the best answer or if my answer doesn't make any sense to you, but I tried with my best abilities. Although these articles (on topics such as anthropology, linguistic, cultural, etc) are written in the English Wikipedia, I hope it's written in a way to help people to understand foreign cultures better. Thank you.--Jeblat (talk) 11:18, 11 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your answer. Your articles definitely help people learn about foreign cultures! My question was about whether to write "Piso Halasan" or "piso halasan". Generally, "piso halasan" would be correct in English unless, for example, "Halasan" refers to a specific place or person. For example, "longsword" is not capitalized, but the first "S" in "Swiss saber" is because it refers to Switzerland. Tdslk (talk) 17:44, 11 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I got what you mean. It's either just "piso" or "Piso Halasan".--Jeblat (talk) 08:07, 12 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello Jeblat, I saw the article you wrote on the Angkola people. Good work! I noticed that while you use citation templates for the book sources, you don't use them for web sources such as Ethnologue. There's a dedicated cite web template for that purpose; giving more than just a bare URL will prove very helpful if the link ever becomes broken - a title, for example, may help to find that content again. Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:Toba people (Indonesia), a page you created, has not been edited in 6 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Thank you for your attention. HasteurBot (talk) 01:36, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:Toba people (Indonesia)

[edit]

Hello Jeblat. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "Toba people".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the db-afc or db-g13 code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by one of two methods (don't do both): 1) follow the instructions at WP:REFUND/G13, or 2) copy this code: , paste it in the edit box at this link, and click "Save page". An administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. JMHamo (talk) 01:49, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Template:Expand Malaysian requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion because it is an unused duplicate of another template, or a hard-coded instance of another template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is not actually the same as the other template noted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page explaining how this one is different so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>substituted</noinclude>).

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page's talk page, where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Hi Diannaa.. The source material was not the text but a table. I'm aware of writing in articles with material source as a reference support, not copy-paste. But in this case it's a table, not a text/essay, so I might have done it wrongly or maybe you can enlighten me on this. Also could it be that there is a copyright mentioned in the article somewhere? I did cite the author and publisher as well. Thanks. Jeblat (talk) 07:06, 15 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Your edit used exactly the same examples in exactly the same order; the descriptions were identical as well. That's a copyright violation. It doesn't matter if it's a table; tables can be copyright, as can images and prose. Please see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing#Substantial similarity for more information on this topic.

Papua province

[edit]

The flag template I used for the Wolani people is for the province of Papua, not the country. It displays the flag of the province and links to the province's wikipedia page. I do understand however, how this might be confusing to readers, with the similarity in name (and the fact that I believe Papua New Guinea is sometimes referred to colloquially as Papua), and that people might be less familiar with provincial flags. I'd be fine with changing it to a wikilink reading Papua province or Papua Papua province. Let me know what you think. Plandu (talk) 19:19, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming articles

[edit]

Hi, when moving articles, please don't copy and paste the content between the two titles, as this fragments the article history and breaks attribution. If you're technically unable to move an article (this usually happens when the target is already occupied), you can place a request at WP:RMT. For more info on moving pages, you can have a look at WP:MV. Thanks! – Uanfala (talk) 11:44, 17 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

About ainu/sources

[edit]

Hello, here is one genetic research about origin of ainu/jomon: you need to click in the pdf and than you can read the full article.(https://www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/pjab/85/2/85_2_69/_article)

Here is the result: “Their findings indicate that the indigenous Japanese people, i.e., the Ainu, belong to the northern Mongoloid group, and are in good agreement with our results that the Ainu have the northern Mongoloid Gm genes at higher pro- portions than the present-day Japanese people. —> indigenous japanese/ainu/jomon. If ainu and ryukyuans have more northern dna and are more jomon, it is clear that jomon are of northern asian origin. They are paleo-mongoloid and not australoid”

Another research that shows that southern mongoloids have no or only very less australoid/negrito admixture. It is said the highest australoid/negrito admixture is is some small tribes in southern Philippines and indonesia with about 9% australoid/negrito blood.(not very much)

Here a new research that shows that mongoloid people was already present 159.000 years ago in southern china: (https://www.researchgate.net/publication/250376782_Minatogawa_Man_the_Oldest_Type_of_Modern_Homo_sapiens_in_East_Asia) and (Rosenburg, Karen (2002). "A Late Pleistocene Human Skeleton from Liujiang, China Suggests Regional Population Variation in Sexual Dimorphism in the Human Pelvis". Variability and Evolution.)

Here a new research from 2018 that shows that mongoloid is mich older than thought and that modern humans(mongoloids) was in east asia and other parts of asia longer than 2 million years ago. Scientists call it the “out-of-asia” theory or the multi-origin theory of humans: (https://www.biorxiv.org/content/early/2018/05/01/101410) Modern human origins: multiregional evolution of autosomes and East Asia origin of Y and mtDNA (Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory)

The negrito and australoid tribes lived only in small numbers in parts of southeast asia. They got displaced mostly, only some mixed. The negritos of southeast asia got displaced and today small numbers live on the malay peninsula. The negritos of indonesia mostly got displaced. Today are mostly non-existent. The negritos of the Philippines exists still as small tribes. Only on papua they are the majority.

It is beliced that when the mongoloid people came to indonesia and southeast asia, there were only 200.000 negrito people. Compared to more than 4 million mongoloid people traveling to indonesia.

I will search more sources if you want, maybe next week. I am currently on holiday. Greetings 212.95.8.241 (talk) 15:44, 28 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Melanesians

[edit]

Hi Jeblat,

No, "Melanesian" isn't an ethnic group, not even close. We don't have an ethno info box for Negroid, for example. I see we do for Indigenous peoples of the Americas, but from the way it's presented it's clear that we're not saying "Indian" is a single ethnic group. From your response to my removal of the info box, it seems we haven't made that point clear in the case of Melanesians. I suppose we could put the box back if it were redone to make that point. E.g., lose the photo, reword the rubric so it's clear we're talking about multiple peoples, etc. — kwami (talk) 21:02, 29 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I've moved your comments here to Talk:Melanesians#Infobox to make it easy for others to see and open for them participate in the discussion. -Jeblat (talk) 15:41, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

About parang and golok

[edit]

Bagaimana pendapat anda? Jayaagung (talk) 19:59, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Jayaagung: I don't know why you wouldn't carry out the discussion at Talk:Parang (knife)#Origins. Modern Italy was founded in 1861. The first pizza was created in 1889. -Jeblat (talk) 14:25, 9 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Alam Bashari: If you have reliable scholarly resources that indicates the origins especially from an ethnographic standpoint, please provide the links. Do not discuss it on my Talk page but discuss it in Talk:Parang (knife) instead so others could participate in the discussion. Also, please READ the edit summary that I've given "Changes on the subject will be made until there's further discussion that leads to a consensus. Please be reminded not to engage in Wikipedia:Edit warring here but active discussion in Talk:Parang (knife)#Origins is encouraged." The reason for the editing summary is because nobody would prefer to participate in the discussion but rather engage in Wikipedia:Edit warring style of repeating the same edit. I would encourage you not to do any Wikipedia:Edit warring until a general public consensus is reached, and also do read up Wikipedia:Dispute resolution. Thank you. -Jeblat (talk) 03:27, 27 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Citations in Dayak people article

[edit]

Jeblat, pls indicate defects of the citations on Dayak people rather than removing them to minimize time reinserting them. Or as the editor, you can correct or improve them. Removing them is anti-constructive to content developemnt in Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2402:1980:102:A5F9:2D00:A3C2:2650:398C (talk) 12:42, 8 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm unable to ping back a reply to you since you're using multiple IP addresses.
pls indicate defects of the citations on Dayak people rather than removing them to minimize time reinserting them.: I've already mentioned that you should follow the appropriate citation format as seen in Wikipedia:Tutorial/Citing sources. But it seems like you didn't read it or simply not bothered.
Or as the editor, you can correct or improve them.: Instead of taking time to go through Wikipedia:Tutorial/Citing sources, you've kept on repeating the same edits even after you've been advised in the editing summary multiple times. As you've mentioned here, you too could take the time to go through Wikipedia:Tutorial/Citing sources to improve on the contents of the article. You can't simply repeating the same editing mistakes and expect others to do follow up and do the clean up for you. As you might have already noticed, Dayak people, Iban people and a number of Dayak related articles are facing a lot of these problems. Adding more of this poor edits are not helping but only piling up the mess.
Removing them is anti-constructive to content developemnt in Wikipedia.: I truly appreciate your good will editing in the Dayak article. To help out, please register a username (instead of using multiple IP addresses, for whatever reasons it may be), be an active contributor, read through Wikipedia:Tutorial/Citing sources, read examples of high grades articles to understand what a good quality encyclopedia article looks like, be a constructive contributor instead of piling up more and more editing inconsistencies in the articles.
I look forward to more of your contribution in the future, particularly in Dayak related articles. Don't forget to sign at the end of your post. -Jeblat (talk) 16:21, 9 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Jeblat, pls elaborate on your reason to remove the citation for each of them. Do not remove them en bloc. I improved the citations as you required but you removed them en bloc. Why didn't you accept them?

I choose to remain anonymous and I stated facts, not fake and i'm trying to prove what I said by inserting citations but you remove them en bloc. Why? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.164.95.120 (talk) 10:32, 15 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I've addressed your first comment here, part by part. I'm not sure how that is isn't any more clearer for you to understand.
pls elaborate on your reason to remove the citation for each of them.: Please read my first comment all over again.
I improved the citations as you required but you removed them en bloc. Why didn't you accept them?: Please see the second point again in my first comment.
If you still want further elaboration on why I removed every single citation that you've made, please take some time to go through all of my comments all over again at the above. Thank you. -Jeblat (talk) 17:13, 17 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Jeblat, you undo my edits to revert to Citation needed in the military section. I repaired the citations to conform to your or Wikipedia's standard citation format as much as I could understand. If these edits are still not right, pls repair them according to your standard format. Newspaper sources are acceptable, right? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 115.164.47.254 (talk) 14:06, 18 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I repaired the citations to conform to your or Wikipedia's standard citation format as much as I could understand.: In that case, I highly doubt that you did read through Wikipedia:Tutorial/Citing sources and Wikipedia:Citing sources thoroughly.
If these edits are still not right, pls repair them according to your standard format.: It was never my standard format. I've already given the answer to this in the second point of my first comment here; which I'm not sure if you actually read it too. -Jeblat (talk) 03:55, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Introducing Indonesian grammar into English

[edit]

Hello. Please refrain from introducing Indonesian grammar into English-language articles. I can't follow your line of thought whatsoever. [3] Why would you revert an important edit with grammar corrections just because you didn't like one aspect of it? Why?? This makes no sense at all. Please show more care in the future and refrain from disrupting Wikipedia. If you speak English, can't you see how horrible Indonesian grammar sounds when plastered into English??? If previously they were usually identified by two or four dialects but then among the opinions of modern specialists What kind of sentence is this?? 83.21.48.23 (talk) 17:36, 5 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for my tone above, but the plague of "undoing everything" is getting annoying. It's deeply pervasive. I would just like to ask you to be more careful when reverting edits, and make sure that you don't miss important corrections, be it grammar or anything else. 83.21.48.23 (talk) 17:42, 5 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I overlooked the grammar on the previous edits. I only highlighted the changes on the removal of Malayo-Sumbawan languages. Apart from that I've got no issues with your edits. -Jeblat (talk) 03:12, 6 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge.
