The fundamental principles of Wikipedia may be summarized in five "pillars":

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia

Wikipedia combines many features of general and specialized encyclopedias, almanacs, and gazetteers. Wikipedia is not a soapbox, an advertising platform, a social network, a vanity press, an experiment in anarchy or democracy, an indiscriminate collection of information, nor a web directory. It is not a dictionary, a newspaper, nor a collection of source documents, although some of its fellow Wikimedia projects are.

Wikipedia is written from a neutral point of view

We strive for articles with an impartial tone that document and explain major points of view, giving due weight for their prominence. We avoid advocacy, and we characterize information and issues rather than debate them. In some areas there may be just one well-recognized point of view; in others we describe multiple points of view, presenting each accurately and in context rather than as "the truth" or "the best view". All articles must strive for verifiable accuracy with citations based on reliable sources, especially when the topic is controversial or is about a living person. Editors' personal experiences, interpretations, or opinions do not belong on Wikipedia.

Wikipedia is free content that anyone can use, edit, and distribute

All editors freely license their work to the public, and no editor owns an article – any contributions can and may be mercilessly edited and redistributed. Respect copyright laws and never plagiarize from any sources. Borrowing non-free media is sometimes allowed as fair use, but editors should strive to find free alternatives first.

Wikipedia's editors should treat each other with respect and civility

Respect your fellow Wikipedians, even when you disagree. Apply Wikipedia etiquette, and do not engage in personal attacks or edit wars. Seek consensus, and never disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point. Act in good faith, and assume good faith on the part of others. Be open and welcoming to newcomers. Should conflicts arise, discuss them calmly on the appropriate talk pages, follow dispute resolution procedures, and consider that there are 6,930,076 other articles on the English Wikipedia to improve and discuss.

Wikipedia has no firm rules

Wikipedia has policies and guidelines, but they are not carved in stone; their content and interpretation can evolve over time. The principles and spirit matter more than literal wording, and sometimes improving Wikipedia requires making exceptions. Be bold, but not reckless, in updating articles. And do not agonize over making mistakes: they can be corrected easily because (almost) every past version of each article is saved.

Information icon Hello, I'm Ctrlwiki. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Happy Together (Philippine TV series), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Ctrlwiki10:20, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Jasmine Curtis-Smith, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Ctrlwiki10:23, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mhicaela Belen moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Mhicaela Belen, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Sorry for not adding reliable sources because I'm trying to find the reliable source of my article Jamespatrickdevera (talk) 05:18, 17 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It is not good form to just recreate the article, especially when it is just a cut and paste move. You should keep improving the article in draft and it will (eventually) by passed back to the main space. By recreating you have made more unnecessary work for others. Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Mhicaela Belen. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Liz Read! Speedy deletion nomination of Rachel Anne Austero

[edit]

Hello Jamespatrickdevera,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Rachel Anne Austero for deletion, because it's a redirect from an article title to a namespace that's not for articles.

If you don't want Rachel Anne Austero to be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Moving articles from drafts

@Jamespatrickdevera I'm a bit confused as to why you've done this again. It is clear you have been informed of this, and yet have continued to do it with Draft:Royse Tubino. The point of draftification is so an article can be improved, not so it can be moved back immediately. ~ Eejit43 (talk) 00:27, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Ost316. I noticed that you recently removed all content from Shakey's V-League 13th Season Reinforced Conference. Please do not do this. Blank pages are harmful to Wikipedia because they have a tendency to confuse readers. As a rule, if you discover a duplicate article, please redirect it to an appropriate existing page. If a page has been vandalised, please revert it to the last legitimate version. If you feel that the content of a page is inappropriate, please edit the page and replace it with appropriate content. If you believe there is no hope for the page, please see the deletion policy for how to proceed. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you wish to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. A tag has been placed on NCAA Season 98 volleyball tournaments requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — 9️⃣8️⃣🐯♒️(🆃🅰🅻🅺) 05:51, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

What the heck are you doing, Jamespatrickdevera? This is ridiculous! You moved a redirect page to a stupid page title and then blanked it so that it would be tagged for deletion. This is the move of an account that has been editing for a day, not an experienced editor. And you moved it around several times which was totally unnecessary. If you had advanced permissions, I would remove them. Please educate yourself on Wikipedia's deletion processes and use them appropriately. Do not do silly work-arounds in order to get a page deleted. This is amateur stuff that an experienced editor should never do and demonstrate that you don't understand how to use CSD or RFD. Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from FEU Tamaraws into FEU Tamaraws women's volleyball. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 12:30, 1 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Adamson Soaring Falcons basketball team a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Adamson Soaring Falcons basketball.

Thank you. Ways to improve 2024 PVL season

[edit]

Hello, Jamespatrickdevera,

Thank you for creating 2024 PVL season.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

Hi JamesPatrickdevers. Nice start on the new article. In my opinion, it will be improved by being added to appropriate Wikiprojects and additional categories. Be careful of the tenses being used - it should consistently be future tense until the season actually starts.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Bastun}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Chu Njigha moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Chu Njigha, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) The sauces provided are all about th3 team, not the individual player. Most don’t mention him at all, and others are just passing mentions. This is well below what is required to support a biographical article.

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! 98𝚃𝙸𝙶𝙴𝚁𝙸𝚄𝚂 15:08, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
