Sorry, its been a long day, and i am not usually this absent minded when trying to create such simply pages. Thanks for the help. I'm going to stop tinkering with the archive pages (all of them) before I screw something else up. Thanks for your help. TomStar81 (Talk) 00:13, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

A More Perfect Union
There is no doubt that the speech is more sought after than the book (http://stats.grok.se/en/200806/A_More_Perfect_Union_(Speech) vs http://stats.grok.se/en/200806/A More Perfect Union: Advancing New American Rights). The question is whether more people who enter that phrase are looking for the Preamble to the United States Constitution for which it is the stated first objective. I guess a move would be O.K., but is there a way to see the clickthroughs on the preamble link?--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 01:16, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- You can get some outside opinion and expert advice by proposing this at WP:RM. I am not really sure what the right thing to do is.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:CHICAGO/WP:LOTM) 01:21, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Requested assistance
Hi. :) In the turn-about is fair play category, I'd like to ask you if you'd mind looking at a copyright problem I'm having trouble investigating here. I've cleared out everything except St. Agnes Catholic High School, and I can't get the listed sources to load. I don't know if this is a problem on my end. I'm not sure what I'm going to do if you can't get them to load, either. I tried searching wayback with no luck. I know that you're not online atm, but this is not urgent. When you can. :D --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:56, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. I don't mean it to consume too much of your time. But I can't address the copyvio if I can't see the source, and you were the first person I thought to ask for assistance. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:14, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Professionalism and notability
Hey, I remember you from before and you seem pretty knowledgeable, so I have a question. In the matter of professional reviews for music albums and posting the reviews on articles, does Wikipedia look for professionalism, or reviewer notability? If you know a link pointing in either direction, please provide, I can't find any. If not, just give me your opinion, please. dude527 (talk) 21:01, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks much! The discussion we were having was if a Rolling Stone review should be taken out of an article because it seems "unprofessional". Then we got into a whole discussion about notability being more important then professionalism on Wikipedia, and the other user was arguing that professionalism is more important. Rolling Stone is a very notable source and should be on the article, regardless of the professionalism. Thank you for your opinion again, and I will read the link you provided. dude527 (talk) 22:58, 2 July 2008 (UTC)

Valid Consensus
Here is the review in question
Please help us reach a valid consensus on the Rolling Stone section of Indestructible's talk page. This user is, frankly, not willing to give this up, at all, the argument about whether the review by The Rolling Stone belongs in the article or not. The argument first started as me finding reasons for it to stay, but after you sent me a couple links, he is now trying to twist those a little, such as trying to make it seem as though reviews should be factual-based, and not opinion. I don't know, I think this review should stay here because it's listed in section of reliable reviews for Wikipedia, it meets the criteria for being a reliable source (although, it did get one fact wrong, but I already stated, reviews are supposed to be opinion), and it passes the album review section as well.
Now his argument is quite different. He says that, because the review is written unprofessionally (it takes a few personal cuts at the band), it should be taken down. He also says that one sentence from the reliable sources section insinuates this as well. Here is that sentence: "Articles should rely on reliable, third-party published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy," and he says that the one fact that the review got wrong makes it fail those standards. He also states that, because of the way this sentence in the WP:Album is worded (Sentence is: "When choosing which reviews to include, consider the notability of the review source and keeping a neutral point of view."), it insinuates that notability is not important in choosing reviews, that it's simply another thing to consider, but not important.
I admit he forms a nice argument, but, surely, as this is reviewer is listed in the list of reliable reviewers, that should dispel the insinuations that it is unreliable.
I don't want you to run in and support me, off the bat. I want you to run in, read the comments previously made, and from those, form your own opinion, and then comment. Here's the page again. dude527 (talk) 12:35, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

I suggest getting your userpage semi-protected. I looked at your page history and it said that an IP was the one who messed it up. If you do that non users won't be able to edit your page. That should stop some of the vandalism. On the other hand, I think it's kind of stupid how that IP user calls himself Mr.Vandal. That's just idiotic. A Bit Short on Time
Hello J.delanoy. I'm a bit short on time recently and do not think I would be able to nominate you for adminship. However, if you wish to wait for me to be your nominator, I may become active again in September and October. Hope you are enjoying your summer!¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 16:08, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- Ha! I just came here to say that I've noticed your edits and think you're just about ready to go for RfA. I'd be willing to nominate you if you threw yourself into a bout of XfD work. If you're interested, I'll explain what I'm suggesting. --Dweller (talk) 21:19, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- I had a brief look through your contribs and you look a good candidate. Your XfD work is weak, especially recently, and people will want to see evidence of this. I also want a bit more time digging in your contrib history to see if there's anything more you need (RfA is tough enough without going into it recklessly!). My suggestion currently is that I would nom you in the early days of August, if you've made an average of say 4 or 5 good (ie not "delete as nom" etc!) XfD contribs most days. To make it even stronger, I suggest you try to find new debates and aim to be the first contributor other than the nominator. Or find ones that are contentious and will be tricky for admins to call when it comes time to close them. Watchlist and return to the debates, and demonstrate your adminlike qualities - firmness, good debating, willingness to accept a good argument, politeness etc. The point is to help RfA !voters decide you're a good/bad candidate on the basis of actual recent work, rather than hunch. I might suggest some other things once I've dug into your contribs, so watch this space, but my first look was extremely promising, hence my original message. --Dweller (talk) 06:25, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- NB I don't mean non admin closures of AfDs. While it's good that you've done some of these, they won't have helped that much, because non admins are only supposed to do non contentious closes. --Dweller (talk) 12:15, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

And another task for you. I've begun really trawling your contrib history. It's clear that you're not really a content contributor, but more a vandal whacker. That's fine. The days when admins were required to have written an FA are long gone. However, I think it'd be good for you to be able to demonstrate that you understand what articles should be like in a positive manner, not just the negative (ie deletion process). A good way to do this is by chipping in at Peer Review. Have you spent much time at those pages? Have a look through some well developed reviews and let me know when you're ready for the next steps! --Dweller (talk) 12:15, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- A thought-provoking and refreshingly honest reply. I'll ponder it. --Dweller (talk) 14:26, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
OK, here's where I see it. I suggested doing some AfD and PR work, not to kid anyone that you're anything that you're not, but so people could be assured that you understand deletion process and (because you're not a content editor) encyclopedia work respectively. However, your response is admirable. If anything, I'm more convinced of your suitability for adminship for your reply. I think you'll probably incur some objections that you may not have done if you'd gone with my suggestion, but, goodness, I would hope that your splendid reply should earn you plenty of support. Not least for convincingly demonstrating that you're not "power-hungry"!
I've not really seen how your interactions with others are, as they're swamped with automated messages. If you've been level-headed, civil and communicative with others for at least the last good few months, I'm prepared to nominate you on Monday. --Dweller (talk) 15:12, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yin and Yang? Lol. I was perusing WP:ER and spotted your name. I recalled a non admin closure you'd made of an AFD. So I started looking into you further, headed over here and was pleased to see that you were interested in becoming an admin. And yes, I'm English. I'll nominate you on Monday (my editing from Friday-Sunday inclusive is often patchy, usually non existent). Thanks for agreeing to go through with what is sometimes an unpleasant experience. You seem to have the right attitude and that's worth a bunch. --Dweller (talk) 15:44, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

- You have two new questions. Rudget (logs) 16:30, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, J (? I don't know what to call you), I left a fairly rude message on your RfA that implied that your contributions here were not wanted which on reflection (and after being called on it, obviously) was a pretty nasty thing to say considering their volume and quality, and your obvious dedication to cleaning up the place. So hopefully you'll accept my apologies? Insofar as the opinion of a complete stranger on the (lack of) worthiness of your participation is relevant, I ~in no way~ think that you are not valued or needed here. Barnstar
Your Opinion is More Important than You Think Barnstar | ||
I was waiting for your RfA to turn up, because I have seen you around this encyclopedia all over the place, and you have done such a lot for this project. And we have a lot in common; when I was ran for RfA, I was primarily a vandal-fighter, and as for age, I wasn't then 18 either. In recognition of your fantastic work here, I feel you deserve this barnstar, as well as my support for your RfA. Very best wishes, Lradrama 11:31, 23 July 2008 (UTC) |
- You're very welcome. I don't think it matters whether an admin is 18 or not, that's not what is important. What is important is how mature they are on the inside, which, after all the time I have spent with you on this project, is something you definately are. And you would clearly benefit from using the tools. Regards, Lradrama 14:05, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
My oppose
That was actually only one reason. I will change it for you, but it will still be an oppose (albeit a weak one). I do so hope you do not take this as an attack on you personally, it's just that I have an unwritten criteria. Asenine 23:05, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
- I concede it was 5 months ago, but it's still a bit... odd. Asenine 23:09, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Your prod
Hey J, the RfA is looking good! Your prod of this should have been a speedy tag. See the deletion log for why I went ahead and deleted it. Question about something entirely not Wiki
Hello, Person Who Knows Stuff®. Do you by any chance know how to tell somebody who doesn't Know Stuff how to clear out all the automatic fill-in edit summaries and whatnot? I know this is on my local computer, but I don't know where to go to wipe it. I hate to lose my useful edit summaries, but it'll be worth it to lose the "one time use only" ones. If it matters, I use Mozilla. And if this falls into the category of Stuff You Don't Know®, please don't sweat it. I'm not asking you to research it for me. I just figured if you happened to know off the top of your head, you could save me some time. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:06, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

- Just saw that you finished, J.d, terrific! Does AWD do text changes also? Most of the articles that you just re-catted say "connecting between" instead of just "connecting". Does AWB do that? See also User talk:RushdimIDlike#Mistakes. Keeper ǀ 76 20:29, 24 July 2008 (UTC)
SUper stuff. I'll give you a bell in the future if I need anything. The only thing I can think of offhand is that the articles in Category:British films need the {{CinemaoftheUK}} template adding to the foot of the page to connect the years in film and articles all together. It isn't urgent but it will need doing gradually. It could probably be done by AWB ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:31, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

You're a sysop!
Hey there. I'm pleased to let you know that, consensus being reached, you are now an administrator! You've volunteered to do housekeeping duties that normal users sadly cannot participate in. Sysops can't do a lot of stuff: They can't delete pages just like that (except patent nonsense like "aojt9085yu8;3ou"), and they can't protect pages in an edit war they are involved in. But they can delete random junk, block anonymous vandals, delete pages listed on articles for deletion for more than 5 days (provided there's a consensus), protect pages when asked to, and keep the few protected pages that exist on Wikipedia up to date.
Almost anything you can do can be undone, but please take a look at The Administrators' how-to guide and the Administrators' reading list before you get started (although you should have read that during your candidacy ;). Take a look before experimenting with your powers. Also, please add Administrators' noticeboard to your watchlist, as there are always discussions/requests for admins there. If you have any questions drop me a message at My talk page. Have fun! =Nichalp «Talk»==Nichalp «Talk»= 13:15, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

A Question
I am just wondering why my report of User:Rebafan11 on AIV has sat for some 6 hours, but other reports are being acted on much quicker. - NeutralHomer T:C 12:13, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
- First off, Congrats on the new adminship! :) Second, User:Dingbat2007 (aka:Rebafan11) has a big habit of adding things to television station pages that are true. Like in one case, he added that WABC-TV was airing ESPN on it's DT signal. This is one of many examples. But, if you like to leave it for another admin, I completely understand. Again, congrats! Take Care....NeutralHomer T:C 12:25, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
- Just wanted to keep you in the loop, User:Rebafan11 was blocked by User:Tanthalas39, after vandalism continued. Another sock popped up, this time User:Rebafan12, and it too was blocked. For some reason, User:Dingbat2007 uses the same names (with a different number) for his sockpuppets. Again, congrats on the Adminship :) Take Care....NeutralHomer T:C 04:15, 29 July 2008 (UTC)
Help? maybe
I set miszabot to automatically archive Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums. I used the instructions at User:MiszaBot/Archive HowTo and kept the examples "250K" as max archive size. This seemed a bit big to me, as my archive is "100K", but archives aren't accessed that often anyway. We started at archive 25. This morning, we're up to 43. Miszabot put each thread in its own archive. I'm going to have to repair this manually, but I don't want it to keep happening. Can you help me figure out what's wrong? --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:27, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
- (P.S. Talk page stalker help welcome, too. :) I'm watching here if you want to respond here.) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:27, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
- (It is SOOO nice to be able to look at deleted contributions :) Anyways, I am not positive what happened there, but I have a pretty good idea. You put the template's closing braces on the same line as the max revision size parameter. If I understand the way this works, the bot may have read the max revision size as "250K }}". In that case, it would most likely have treated it as zero, which would explain why it made so many new archive pages. I changed it to the more common format. I guess we'll see if I'm right when the bot does its run. J.delanoygabsadds 14:54, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
- I'm so glad I know you! :D Thanks for looking into it. I hope that'll fix it. I was more than a little appalled to head over there this morning and find so many new archive pages! --Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:56, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

A bit of a story for you...
I knew a guy once that was sent to central Africa for his job. His name was Ulay (pronounced you-LAY). He was an exterminator by trade, and this particular country had a huge infestation of vermin, namely rats. Long story short, he was quite successfull of ridding the country of their problem, and was rewarded by the native men with much thanks and applause, and from that point forward, rewarded with quite a bit more work. He enjoyed the applause, and appreciated the thanking, but at the end of it, he was really just doing more work. :-) The moral of the story, and his new motto? Congo rats? Ulay shuns!. Enjoy the extra work :-) Keeper ǀ 76 18:42, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

I noticed that you unblocked 203.162.3.166 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) because he was not previously warned about vandalizing my user page. Technically true, but his pattern of edits is exactly the same as Billthebob (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log), who was recently banned for the same reason. I don't think this person deserves another warning. Oh, and I have gotten my user page semi-protected, so that's not a problem anymore, but now he's back vandalizing Jablonski-related articles (disambig is semi-protected, so he's adding his self-promo to the pages it links to), which is where this all began. Latest IP is User:119.70.40.101. Steve CarlsonTalk 03:22, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
- Can you semi-protect all the pages that the Jablonski disambig links to? This guy apparently has many IP's at his disposal and has an agenda of getting those two Jablonski's reinstated somewhere. Steve CarlsonTalk 03:34, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
