Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

For all the articles you have edit we use the standard English spelling found in reliably published sources

[edit]

That's just the way we work. So I am asking you to revert all your changes. I'm not going to, you'll see on my talk page I'm dying soon and I don't want to waste my time. I hate to be rude to a new editor,, but you really have to do this and stop making the changes you are making. Doug Weller talk 08:17, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Translating pages

[edit]

Please see Help:translate and follow the guidelines there, note that attribution to the original source is a legal requirement. You are also responsible for making sure any citations are reliably published sources by our policies and for any unsourced material (which really should be sourced or can be removed by any editor). And of course using the standard English spellings. Good to see you doing this. And I see you did copy from one enwiki article to another with attribution. Doug Weller talk 08:23, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Tree of Life

[edit]

Please do not make edits like you did in this article. The presented spellings have to follow those in the source cited. These may differ from the spelling of the title of the Wikipedia article. When you remove the alternate spelling, you make the text inaccurate relative to the source being quoted. Skyerise (talk) 23:48, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please summarise your edits

[edit]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Neatly95 (talk) 23:03, 6 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Manco Cápac, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Puka Urqu. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 06:07, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

July 2024

[edit]

Hello. I wanted to let you know that your recent edit(s) to Anubis have been removed because you cited the information you added to another Wikipedia article or an external wiki. As discussed at our policies on circular sourcing and self-published sources, Wikipedia and other wikis should not be used in citations because they are not considered reliable sources. You are welcome to re-add the information using a different reference, perhaps from the article you originally linked to. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. DonIago (talk) 17:15, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Please start responding to messages or I will have to block you

[edit]

Note also Wiktionsry is not a reliably published source, any more than Wikipedia is. Doug Weller talk 19:01, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fine. what do you want? Intichkanmi7378 (talk) 01:01, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We (I"m not the only one) want you to stop adding Wiktionary and to avoid changing the normal English spelling of names to an indigenous spelling. Sorry, but this makes a mess. This is the English language encyclopedia, so we use the spelling found in reliably published English sources. Please go back and revert your edits. I've got no time, am weak with chemotherapy aimed at giving me a few more months to live. Doug Weller talk 08:22, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Kuntisuyu.jpeg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Kuntisuyu.jpeg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 23:30, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling

[edit]

Please stop changing the spelling of words, esp as you did at Ocra (Peru). We use the way the word is spelled in English, not in the source language. If you do not stop this behavior, you will be blocked from editing. Go edit some other language Wikipedia if you don't like how we spell things in English! Skyerise (talk) 19:35, 10 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It is with regret that I have had to report problems with your editing

[edit]

Please respond at WP:ANI#Advice/help for good faith editor making a mess of some articles. Doug Weller talk 08:39, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure you have to respond there at all, no one is going to do anything to you other than ask you to avoid the edits that have been the problem. If you want to discuss them that's fine, but basically we use spellings found in English academic sources, and names must always match the title of the article. Wiktionary, as I've said, is created by its users so isn't a reliable source.
There are various notice boards where you can raise questions about your edits, sources, etc. and either I or someone else can help you. You can also use the WP:TEAHOUSE to ask for help. From what I've seen you could be a valuable editor once you are familiar with our policies and guidelines. Doug Weller talk 17:21, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wiktionary: I thought this was addressed, already?

[edit]

red-outlined triangle containing exclamation point Hello, there is a consensus that Wiktionary should not be linked/sourced like you are doing. I believe this has already been addressed to you. I am writing to your talk page as a courtesy that I will revert your edits (at least to the articles concerning ancient Egyptian subject matter) as has been already done previously. If there was a new arrangement made that I was unaware of, please correct me and accept my apologies. If this is not the case, please desist from continuing to edit in such a way that flies in the face of a consensus. Neatly95 (talk) 01:36, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have since reverted the edits you made to the ancient Egyptian articles. Please understand the three simple reasons behind this:
  • Wiktionary is not a reliable source. It is free to edit and anyone can write anything, substantiated or otherwise. Additionally, f the content of the link changes, there is not a fall-back mechanism like there is here for internal Wikilinks.
  • Names used in articles should reflect the common referential name used in the literature and the wider public (i.e. Neferneferuaten instead of nfr-nfrw-jtn) - if in doubt, the name of the article is usually the common one.
  • Any names should be romanised/transliterated into Latin alphabets/English, unless directly quoting an academic source for which another name is used.
Neatly95 (talk) 02:44, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Intichkanmi7378 Unless this stops you will be blocked from editing. Doug Weller talk 07:00, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You are continuing to change English spellings to Spanish ones; if you continue, you will be WP:BLOCKED. Skyerise (talk) 20:11, 21 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
